On this episode, Tom is having a chat with Fleta Solomon, the CEO of Little Green Pharma, Australia's leading medical cannabis producer. This Perth-based company is the only producer in Australia with locally-grown products that could pass all the mandatory testing required. Over the last few years, Little Green Pharma has grown significantly, making it "not so little" anymore.

A big topic discussed in this episode is their relatively recent move to Europe, where the company has set up its European base of operations just outside Odense, in Denmark. Tom had the pleasure of visiting the facility in February, which is currently the largest medical cannabis production facility in Europe.

Fleta shares her personal story of how she ended up in the medical cannabis space and how Little Green Pharma grew from humble beginnings in Perth to a global production powerhouse in a relatively short period of time. Fleta also discusses some of the company's growing pains, how the board has implemented ESG practices, and what the future may hold for Little Green Pharma.

Smells Like Business had the pleasure of being a media partner for both. Unfortunately, due to Covid, Tom could not attend HamCan but got feedback from others in the cannabis community who did attend and from Lenny Roots (the founder himself).

Fortunately, Tom recovered in time for the ICBC in Berlin, the largest b2b cannabis event in Europe and one of the largest in the world. He explains what it’s like to attend such events, what you can expect to get out of them, and (ultimately) if it is worth spending the money to participate. On this episode, Tom is having a chat with Simon Blackwell, who is the Co-Founder of Organic Bio Solutions Ltd. Simon’s path to cannabis was not an easy one. His son, Derren, was diagnosed with Leukaemia at a young age, and the family had exhausted all traditional medical possibilities without much success. It was not until they resorted to cannabis that the whole situation around and Derren’s health started to improve. He is now a healthy young and independent adult.

Having seen what cannabis did for his son, Simon is now on a new mission to bring hemp to the masses in the UK. He hopes to modernise the hemp industry by teaming up with Robert Ziner, the Founder and CEO of the Canadian Industrial Hemp Corporation (CIHC). Robert is the inventor and creator of the AI Decorticator, which is also referred to as the Smart stalk system. This system aims to make hemp farmers' lives a lot easier and more profitable by bringing AI into the processing of hemp, by increasing production and efficiency and decreasing margins of error.

Simon is based up in Norfolk, UK, and his aim is to make this area, which is ideal for agriculture, the new British hub for hemp.

On this episode Tom is having a chat with Brett Puffenbarger, the Director of Digital Marketing and Sales Integration at Vanguard Scientific.

Brett has been in the professional world of cannabis for more than 5 years, and tells us his story of how he managed to transfer himself and his skills into this industry. He also shares great tips on how to prepare in the best way possible to enter the cannabis market, and explains why it is important to educate yourself, and others, on all things cannabis. On this episode Tom is having a chat with Michael Henell, a Swedish hemp farmer with his own company and brand Magic Herb. On August 13th, 2020, Michael’s farm got raided by the police and all his beloved plants were taken away. His story is not that uncommon and is one that many fear. Even with all the correct paperwork and legal permissions, the stigma over cannabis and the lack of understanding on the side of the Swedish police resulted in an unjustified raid on Michael’s hemp farm.

In this interview we learn what happened, how it happened, and what Michael is doing to fight the unjust actions taken against him. We also learn the things Michael believes he could have done better to protect himself from the raid, as well as some of the various legal proceedings that occur when such an event happens. If you are considering starting a hemp farm in Europe, this episode will tell you the price you might have to pay for being one of the pioneers in the industry.
