The presenting issue is keeping the Sabbath, and here Jesus exposes the real issue - an ugly, enslaving legalism which is an enemy of the gospel.Legalists think they are doing the right thing, but legalism confuses people about God, blinds them to the love of God and blocks a life-giving and grace-living relationship with God.In this message we peel back some layers and see what a restored Sabbath looks like. Along the way, we might find a few surprises, especially if you have thought of the Sabbath in terms of what you can and cannot do..
We continue looking at the gospel of Mark 2:1-17 (ESV) and we continue our series on Following Jesus the Servant King.
Today's message from Mark 1:16-45 “The King’s Authority” – looking at the calling of his first disciples, his command over evil & sickness, & his priority of preaching.
This message from Mark 1:1-15 – the greatest news ever! We’re starting into Mark properly this week as we look at this ‘momentous news’ of Jesus’ coming, in fulfilment of what was promised.
This sermon will be first in a series in Mark’s gospel, “Following Jesus, the Servant King” - Mark 10:32-45. The cross changes everything! Being discipled by Jesus means following his priorities and his servant leadership.
Todays message uses the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus from Luke 16: 19 - 31 to consider Treasuring the possession vs Possessing the true treasure. We should be good stewards of the possession of this world and use it for the poor. Because we are people who possess the true treasure, which is eternal life in Christ (And Christ himself).
The second message in our series looking at Luke 15 : 1 - 32 (CSB) - we consider the three ‘lost and found’ parables in this chapter work together to reveal God’s heart for the lost, and his desire for us to participate with him in the great story of salvation.Jesus' stories invite each of us to ask ourselves, “where am I in this story?”
The first message in a short series on parables (Stories Jesus Told). We look at Luke 12:54 – 13:9 “Time to Repent”. The headline news can be quite confronting. This time of year my news app seems to be filled with all sorts of natural disasters, along with the devastation inflicted by humanity on one another (see Luke 13:1-5). How do you and I respond to it all? The Lord Jesus wants us to recognise the times we live in and respond by turning from ourselves and our sin toward God. Gospel-grounded repentance is for life, as we discover the sweetness of the gospel more and more. This hope changes everything.
The Dawn of Redeeming Grace - Zechariah’s Song (Luke 1:57-80) with readings from Luke 1:57-80 & Revelation 22:12-17.This next original Christmas song weaves together the great themes of God’s salvation symphony, centring on the person and work of Jesus. Our rescuer has come, the light has dawned; God’s mercy is amazing. John’s task was to point to the Saviour, and that’s the same for us!
Over the next two Sundays we’ll be delving into Luke chapter 1, looking at the first ‘songs of Christmas’ in the amazing stories of Elizabeth, Mary and Zechariah. The best Christmas songs are all about the Lord Jesus, the long-promised Saviour. The story of his coming is at the centre of all our stories, where all our longings and fears find their rest in him and his saving work. You’re invited to come to him and rejoice - to receive God’s mercy, forgiveness and love found only in his Son! The light of the world has come, and darkness can never defeat it (John 1:4-5).This Sunday we look at Elizabeth and Mary's songs and consider the JOY OF EVERY LONGING HEART [1 Samuel 2:1-10, Luke 1:39-56]
A message from Philippians 3:12-14The goal of the Christian life is to know Jesus, be in awe of Jesus, be like Jesus and make Jesus known. Because Christ has made us His own.
A message from Matthew 20:1 - 16 looking at the parable of the workers in the vineyard and what it means to be working for the King
A message of God's assurnace to always be with us through the storms of life from Mark 4:35 - 41... He will never let go of us - Have Faith!
Passage: 2 Timothy 2:8 - This passage is all about a gospel focus on Jesus - who He is, what He did and why it matters for us today. 2 Timothy is Paul's parting words from prison to his friend and co-worker Timothy, passing on the baton of gospel ministry to ensure that it's remembered and proclaimed in the face of increasing opposition and threat, from within and without. We need to keep the main thing the main thing! The gospel is all about the Lord Jesus - he's our hope, our saviour & our king, come what may. See also Hebrews 12:1-3, Psalm 34:5, 2 Sam 7:12-13.
Using the text from Matthew 6:9-13 - The Lord's Prayer, Tim Meyers brings a message on God's Glory, My Life.
Ephesians 2:1-10
Why don't we go to heaven as soon as we are saved? Why does God let us stay in the world if the world hates us? The truth is, every Christian is a missionary that carries out God's missions in the world.
We look at the concept of freedom and how it's more complex than just "being able to do whatever you want". It cannot be separated from the reality of responsibility, and even when you think you're free, you're still only ever a slave to sin or a slave to God. Lastly when we embrace our spiritual freedom in Christ, we embrace the responsibility to live righteously, and we have the power to lift others out of slavery, both physical and spiritual.
This message will dive deep into an issue the Galatians had with the gospel message, which could possibly be an issue that creeps into our church contexts! For me, and I hope for you all, this message is a humbling reminder that our own best efforts do not justify us before God but rather it is through us receiving and believing in his amazing promise!
Exploring the book of Job with perspectives on God’s Justice and the call on us to simply trust in God who sees everything in a much broader perspective than us.
Our final message in our series on Our Lord's Prayer - In Our Lord’s Prayer Jesus shows us how to make God, Our Father in heaven and His Kingdom our priority. Imagine how God loves to accomplish His universal plans for His Kingdom to come through our prayers!
We continue with #7 in Our Lord’s Prayer series, Matthew 6:13, with the message title being Temptation & Deliverance. Jesus is teaching us to ask our Heavenly Father for protection against the schemes of the evil one. Temptations and testings will come our way. God tests us for good purposes. He wants to make our faith and reliance on Him stronger, giving us a resilient faith to help us step up in following Jesus and making God’s Kingdom come. Satan wants to tempt us for his evil purposes. He wants to make us stumble and fall into sin, undermine our faith in Christ, disable us in making God’s Kingdom come. In short, this petition of Our Lord’s Prayer reminds us that as Christians, Christ followers, we are engaged in physical and spiritual battles with the evil one. We are in a WAR ZONE! EVEN WHEN God tests our faith (for good) and Satan wants to snatch that opportunity to trip us up and lead us into sin, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL! That’s WHY Jesus teaches us to pray this prayer.
Continuing our series on the Lords Prayer - Matthew 6:12 Forgiveness in Prayer and Practice.
Forgiveness is as essential to our soul’s life and health, as food is for our body. Forgiveness is a deep expression of the gospel - God is willing to cancel our debts with Him (forgive us) on the basis of Christ having paid the bill in full so that we are released and free to live for Him. A forgiving spirit is evidence of being forgiven. Jesus says, that proof of your sins being forgiven by God is evidenced by you forgiving others.
“Living Daily from God’s Hand” from Matthew 6:11 the 4th petition of the Lord’s Prayer “Give us today our daily bread”.
You will see the connection between the LORD providing for His people is the desert after their rescue from Egypt. It was a daily provision in their walk with the Lord as He was also walking with them and among them. It was a living out of “I will be your God and you will be my people”, which is an oft repeated statement in Scripture expressing Yahweh’s covenant relationship with His people. Even when Israel complained the LORD still provided.
Our fourth message in this series using Matthew 6:10b we consider what it looks like to actively seek God's Will for our lives through prayer
Richard Boonstra from Prison Fellowship Australia shares a message titled - The Harvest. His text is John 4: 34 - 38 - Jesus calls us to step up and step out and join Him in reaching out to the world with the good news of salvation and restoration. This is something we can't do alone; it is done in partnership.
We continue our series on looking at The Lord's Prayer and this week using Matthew 13:31-33 we look at Thy Kingdom Come. "The Kingdom of God is God’s rule, over God’s people, in God’s place.” 1. The Coming of God’s Kingdom is Desirable 2. The Coming of God’s Kingdom is Difficult 3. The Coming of God’s Kingdom is Definite
The second in Our Lord’s Prayer series is entitled Praying to Keep God’s Name Holy, from Matthew 6:9b. What does Jesus mean in teaching us to pray for God’s Name to be hallowed? Jesus doesn’t teach us to pray “Hallowed IS Your Name” but “Hallowed BE Your Name”. We will look at a Balconeer vs a Traveller (Spectator vs one on a Journey to holiness) from JI Packer’s "Knowing God”. § It’s when our personal and corporate (church) holiness REFLECTS GOD’S HOLINESS MORE AND MORE. When God’s name is revered, honoured and praised (Matt.5:16). § That’s already happening in Heaven. § Jesus teaches us to pray that it may happen more and more on earth.
We start a new series on Our Lord's Prayer - we will look at Matthew and Luke and how Jesus teaches us that God is as close as a loving, adoptive Father. At the same time, He powerfully rules the universe from His throne-room in heaven. Hopefully with an enlarged view of God our Father, we learn to pray bigger prayers!
Pastor Andrew's farewell message as he steps down from his role as pastor of One Hope and moves to Western Australia.. The generations will be discipled by someone or something. It must be us, so all we DO and SAY is important.

Continuing our series in Ephesians, this message is looking at the ‘horizontal’ aspect of the cross, how Jesus dies to bring us together, “creating in himself one new man in the place of two” (Eph. 2:15). And as we are brought together, Jesus holds us together and grows us into “a holy temple… a dwelling place for God” (Eph 2:21-22). So will be a big focus on the church and how we are not just saved from sin, but also saved into a family.
Continuing our series on Ephesians - today looking at a powerful word from Ephesians 2 : 1 - 10 ... BUT GOD...!
We read Job 23:8-10 and we see the story of Job, talking about the normality of interruptions when we live a life following God. When we face interruptions it is crucial not to linger in the ''why'' but rather focus on ''how we can serve God in our current situation''. We will see the parallel from Job to Jesus and how they both suffered things that was not a product of their righteousness.

We kick-off our new series, looking at King Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 29. We look at renewal, becoming more and more the people that God has designed and called us to be. In this story, we discover some key initial steps: 1. Recognise the decline 2. Repentance = cleanse + consecrate 3. Ready to renew
We look at what it means to be blessed, and how we get there, by focusing on Psalm 1. In the end, we move towards Jesus, trusting His Word & way of life, and not go the way of the world.
As we head into a new year and reflect on our hopes & dreams to grow and change, Andrew challenges us to consider 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12, and how we resolve to live lives for God's glory, not our own.

We celebrate Christmas Day by focusing on the gift of Jesus Christ, the one we have truly been waiting for! We read from John 1 and explore what it means to anticipate and receive the Gift of all Gifts!
We are all waiting for something. Even in faith, we find ourselves waiting for God to fulfil His promises and ultimately waiting for Jesus to return, ending all sin & suffering, ushering in His complete perfection. So the big question: how do we wait faithfully? We look at Luke 2, to the example of Simeon & Anna, and see how we can wait faithfully for our coming King.
In the Old Testament, we see God promise a Messiah, and then go years and years without talking to His people through the prophets. What do we do when God seems silent? Andrew takes us through the Bible, and encourages us hold on to the truth even when God seems silent.

As we continue in 2 Timothy, we look at how we are called to a live of godliness in our difficult, godless days. These words from Paul include exhortation to train and put in the work, with a warning against false teachers. In the end, we rely on God's faithfulness to transform us completely.

A wonderful Sunday as Rubin & Ryley both publicly professed their faith and we started a new series on 2 Timothy! Looking at the first five verses, we see how Paul encourages Timothy despite the difficult days they are in.
On a special Sunday, where Peyton & Francis professed their faith, Andrew shares a message from Mark 3:31-35, highlighting how salvation isn't just about being saved from sin but also being saved into a family.

We continue our series on Romans and the Power of the Gospel. In Chapter 5 we are reminded that we have peace with God, which totally changes our battle with sin and suffering.
This week we unpack Romans 4, looking at the example of Abraham and what his life of faith means for us. Paul makes it clear that salvation is for Jew & Gentile, and that God is able to do abundantly more than we think or imagine!
Life is hard sometimes. We all go through trying and testing times, and most of us will go through a few periods of extreme distress in our lives. When this happens we start asking a number of questions: Where is God? What is He doing? is He in control? Does He still love me? What is the purpose of my suffering? James 1:1-18 gives us a glimpse into God's heart during our trouble and it gives us the strength to persevere when trials come.
This week we get stuck into the good news, the righteousness of God that is revealed. Breaking down the passage, we focus on the big, key words that many of us have heard a lot, but lose their significance. We explore what it means to be justified, redeemed and atoned for.
After introducing the good news, Romans get straight into the bad news: the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness. We look at what this means, how God does wrath right and in the end, it is a good thing that evil is dealt with.
We begin our series on Romans, as Glenn takes us through Romans 1:1-17. We see how the gospel has power to save, removing our sin and shame and giving us a whole new life of joy and peace, as we move into right relationship with God.
We continue our series on 'Greater', working through the HEAD | HEART | HANDS. Dani takes through the heart, and how a pure heart leads to a greater connection to God and living out His Kingdom.
Romans 6:14-23 | With Christ's sacrifice on the cross done for us, does it matter now what we do? We will take a look at Paul's response to this in Romans 6, looking at what it means to be slaves of righteousness.
As part of the CRCA in Victoria, each church takes turn hosting a state-wide youth service. This year we have been exploring the theme of 'Living in Christ', and so Joel takes us through Galatians 2:15-21 and what this means for our daily lives.
With Numbers 13 : 25 - 14 : 10, we will look at a very specific turning point in history, when the people of Israel had to be reminded of some key spiritual truths: 1) Forgetting what God has done in the past can be dangerous 2) God’s promises are trustworthy, even in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances 3) Sometimes we are called upon to ‘see with the eyes of faith’. We will see how these principles apply to us as believers here in the 21st century.
We continue our series on GREATER and we start to look at our HEAD | HEART | HANDS - firstly HEAD and how a greater Knowledge of God works out in our walk of faith.

Over the long weekend, Andrew lead us through Ephesians 3:14-21 and encouraged us to not just 'do discipleship' but to 'be disciples'. The first call for our discipleship is that we know Jesus, and continue to grow in Him.

As we lead into our annual Firstfruits offering, Andrew takes us through the Bible to see the blessing & fruit of our giving, and how we partner with God to advance His kingdom.
We continue our series on Jonah, looking at the second and third chapters of the book. We see God's incredible mercy on display, leading Jonah and the Ninevites to repentance.
We dive into the book of Jonah, focusing on the first chapter, where Jonah runs away and sleeps on the ship. We look at what this means for us, in the context of a God who is reaching out to sinners.
Our final message on Hebrews, as we look at Hebrews 12:28 - 13:16 and what this means for our everyday faith and life.
We look at Hebrews 12:1-3, where we encouraged to persevere and run our race, as we focus on Jesus and throw off everything that may hinder us.
We continue our series in Hebrews, looking at chapter 11, the great hall of faith, where the examples of biblical heroes inspire us to live by faith.
We continue to look at Hebrews 10, this time on the invitation to Hold Fast. We have a tendency to drift and fall away, especially through the ups and downs of life. We are encouraged instead to Hold Fast to a firm and solid anchor, the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

We celebrate the year and Christmas, as our children ministry takeover the service. Scott Penna, our children's ministry leader, shares from God's Word about 'harmony' and how we live peacefully with the people around us, despite the differences and difficulties we face.
We start our Advent series, leading up to Christmas by looking at the book of Ruth. We turn to chapter one, where we see the bitterness of the situation for Ruth and Naomi hold a glimmer of hope.

This week, one of our elders, John Schout, looks at the sin of pride and how it affects our lives and, importantly, how it can subtly creep into our lives and remain there without us even realising. We come to the final trait of a Mature Disciple and using Psalm 1 we will see how we are blessed when rooted in The Word.
We will take a look at Exodus 14: 1 - 14 and learn what it means to be still in the presence of our LORD and to hear His voice amidst the noise.
Using Luke 10:25-37 and especially verse 36, we will see how Jesus became for us the neighbour that nobody wanted, so that we can love our neighbour as ourselves even if we are the neighbour they don’t want! This affects the way we see those around us. It's not because they've become something different, but because we have. And because this love of Christ is worked in me through the Holy Spirit, I must love my neighbour UNCONDITIONALLY with the honour of God always in mind.
We take a look at Matthew 6:19-24 and consider a Lasting Investment. Most of us LOVE stuff. Stuff is so good. It makes us look good, feel good, do things we like. But they can have an ongoing cost greater than the initial purchase. They can take our hearts. For that reason earthly treasure can be problematic. If only there was a better solution?

Jesus is Lord: Who/What is Lord of Our Life? - Andrew Boonstra by One Hope Community Church
Moving People in Following Christ - Glenn Dekker & Andrew Boonstra by One Hope Community Church
Joy & Delight: Perfect Protector & Provider - Glenn Dekker by One Hope Community Church
As Jesus was sent - so are we sent. A lack of joy is due to a lack if mission, our joy is a direct correlation to our "sentness". The result of mission is joy! But what is our mission? Has the church become our mission OR is the church the context for our mission?
2 Chronicles 21:18 - 22:1 - I will not offer to the LORD a sacrifice which costs me nothing. Often we flee from sacrifice, from cost or anything that may be slightly uncomfortable. Whether this relates to serving God, evangelising to our friends, speaking up at our workplace, giving financially, caring for the poor or various aspects of a Sunday morning service, as soon as it costs, as soon as it si uncomfortable, we begin to shy away.
Our response of obedience in partnering is for Him and for His Kingdom. God has done so much for me and I share in some incredible and eternal privileges as a partner of the Gospel, and I want to live out, in an increasing way, the responsibility of that too. Paul said to the Philippians: I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Phil 1:3-6 God will bring His work to completion in and through our church, using new partners, long term ones, AND future ones! Why; because it’s His work, and we’re invited to share in it. Now, that’s a privilege!
Guest preacher Timothy Meyers from MST. In Matthew 25, Jesus talks about the servants making use of the talents their master gave them whilst he was gone. The message is that talents were given to them (and to us) to use, not to lie dormant, but to multiply and grow so that the master’s kingdom gets richer! Each one of us at One Hope has talents and gifts for the same reason. To use them in the community we have been placed to enrich God’s Kingdom work. We have so many opportunities to do that here with the array of ministries and mission initiatives we have. My challenge to you today is: Do you know what you are good at?
Guest preacher Phillip Scheepers from the RTC. We have a great treasure as Christ followers, so what do we do with this treasure that we have? This message helps us find the answer and what Paul says about it in the Word.
Sermon at One Hope Community Church by Andrew Boonstra on the occasion of the baptism of Ryan Vandenberg (Luke & Fiona) What are you thankful for? What are you grateful to God for? Do you take time to ponder that and let it come out? Do you let others know what your thankful for? Do you focus on that more than what’s not going to plan? I’m guessing that if thankfulness is good for your health, then the opposite is probably not good. So this is my suggestion; get on a health kick and begin reflecting on God’s great work in your life, causing you to be thankful and grateful, and making you gush about it, so that others get on board!
Sermon at One Hope Community Church - By Joel Poppenbeck We live in a culture where ‘no worries’ is such a common phrase for the chilled out folk among us. The Bible is usually a bit stronger with its language around this topic. Numerous times throughout the Gospels, particularly in Matthew, Jesus says to his hearers, ‘do not worry.’ It is almost a commandment, just like he says, 'love each other', or 'be salt and light', he says, ‘do not worry’.
Sermon preached at One Hope Community Church on the Sunday before Glenn commencing a pastoral sabbatical
Paul assures Timothy of who he is in Christ, a forgiven sinner who is now empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the things that God has called him to do. Today Caleb, Nick, and Aaron are Professing their Faith and testifying to Jesus as their Saviour and Lord and want to enter into battle for Him and with Him. So this morning we will give them a pep talk as they head into the ring, to inspire and assure them of our support as a church community as we partner together in fighting the good fight of faith.
Most Christians would have some understanding that to be a disciple means to be a follower and a learner of Jesus Christ. But what does that look like? How does that effect the way we think, speak and act from day to day?
Every season has a reason and God is in it, He never leaves and never forsakes. So in the present moment, wherever you are at, find your Father and meet Him in this current season.
