Remember the cartoons you loved as a kid? Do you, like us, remember mid-2000s Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network with a mix of fondness and terror – or, if you don’t, do you want to know what the fuss was about?
Join Mary, David, and Ben as we revisit the cartoons that shaped us in an episode-by-episode deep dive, as well as the Internet fan culture as it was then and is now. How do these nostalgic shows hold up? What do we think of them now, as not kids but sad adults? How has the zeitgeist and Internet following evolved along with us? We set out to answer these questions and also to be incredibly hilarious and physically attractive.
We started in 2017 with Return to the Past: A Code Lyoko Retrospective, which ran from 2017-2019 and makes up the first part of this feed. Second was The Ultimate Reprise, which ran from 2019-2020 and covers Oban: Star Racers. Now we’re on The Avatar Recycle, hot on the heels of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Netflix debut!
Join us wheresoever you like. Watching along is not necessary - but highly encouraged – and we try to keep spoiler free up to the current episode! Follow us on Twitter at @super_nuclear, or send us your feedback at supernucleargroup@gmail.com!
After nearly a year since our last Titan Talk, deep in the ennui and tension of adult life, Mary, David and Ben heard a calling. Nay, a stirring in our very souls. And so we came together in the dying days of the Skype messenger service, on a sacred and singular mission –
To cut the Pokedex (almost) neatly in half.
That’s right, as veritable boomers raised on the original 151, we have come to the conclusion there are too many Pokemon nowadays, please eliminate three. And so we’re going to go from start to finish, examining each evolutionary family and deciding which would stay if, theoretically, half of them had to go to a farm upstate.
This miniseries will go generation by generation for the first round of cuts, then narrow down once we get an idea of the state of things. We hope you enjoy, and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to send them to supernucleargroup@gmail.com! Boy is it good to be back with you all!

Masks, the debut of Red X, is considered one of the best episodes of Season 1 - so why did we think it was so mediocre? The plot is bare-bones, questions go unanswered, there are so many opportunities for emotional fulfillment and character development that are just glossed over, and the twist, oh the TWIST! Who ever saw THAT coming??? What is this, a show for ten-year-olds? (It does have some VERY cool robots, however.)
Be warned that this episode is rife with Cat Behavior from a few usually-silent guests. Ness was indulging in a great many misbevaiors typical of his kind - the likes of which David is adjusting to - and we heard some input from Mike, and even the usually quiet Ike!

Apologies for the impromptu break, everyone – we’re back and we’re ready to party! Or, uh, in this case, cringe, because despite being written by the original author of The New Teen Titans comics, this episode… isn’t all that great.
Of Teen Titans, I mean. WE, your humble podcasters, are in top form. And together we look on in horror as the Titans make one idiotic decision after another. Beast Boy develops an inferiority complex that actively hinders the mission, Starfire and Raven fawn over a boy and don’t do much else, and our villain is in MULTIPLE PLACES AT ONCE? HOW CAN THAT BE???
One way or another, we hope we can make this one more bearable for you. (Also, correction – the largest fungus in North America does not unfortunately cover the Pacific Northwest. Only about four miles of it. Sorry to disappoint.)

Alright, time to dive headfirst into that tried and true staple of western animation, the body swap episode!
None of us had remembered this one very fondly, and it turns out Mary had never seen at all. But it turns out it rules - especially because it's an EXCELLENT character study. Behold as Starfire-as-Raven destroys everything in her path, Raven-as-Starfire struggles to even feel a single emotion on purpose, and the boys... well, they're pretty wooden in this episode. Ba dum pish!
This episode carries a content warning at about the 38:30-42:00 mark for discussion of rape, clarifying the misinfo about the character we spoke of in the last episode.

In everyone's favorite Season 1 episode, Raven is subjected to too many puns and goes grimdark, prompting Beast Boy and Cyborg to venture into the Hot Topic dimension to save her.
While there, they encounter not one Raven, but several! Including Finger Guns Raven, a staple of forum avatars in the mid-noughties, but not including Lust Raven, who DOES exist - they saved her for the tie-in comics. Cyborg and Beast Boy help her fight her dad, who may or may not qualify as an orc (Ben has opinions), they all grow closer for it, and meanwhile Starfire and Robin... watch TV.
This episode carries a content warning for a discussion of rape in the DC comics universe between the 9:00-10:30 time stamps. It's come to our attention that we were wrong about the details, but the broad strokes are correct. More information is available on the character's Wikipedia page.

Today, Titan Talk goes out and touches grass! Come join us for a brief interlude at the park, followed by a much longer interlude in a hole at the dump.
Points of curiosity: fine dijon mustard, five and a half pounds of baby back ribs, a nostalgic look back at Obama "scandals," and Tom Kenny in a dual role as a magical blue guy and another, less magical blue guy. And yes, we are sure it's actually him this time.
Apologies for all the coughing, by the way - David and Mary were both sick when we recorded! We hope we were able to delete most of them but there were some that were talked over that we couldn't take out. (We're feeling much better!)

We had a bit of confusion about what this episode was called, all the way up until nearly the end of the recording. Mary and Ben could have sworn it was called Thunder and Lightning. David has the clearest head of all of us and knew from day 1 that it was Forces of Nature, and so we stand corrected.
But Thunder and Lightning themselves weren't always forces of nature! Here we learn for the first time about just how different these two knuckleheads are from their comic counterparts, AND get a bit of a different sort of conflict where the antagonists aren't necessarily villainous, or even evil.
Also Slade is in yellowface. He's wearing a mask over his mask that somehow has a working mouth. And is using magic?? What even is this.
We discuss some later series spoilers between 50:00-55:00, so skip through that point if you're watching along with us for the first time.

Here we are at the actual Teen Titans pilot episode - one that makes it readily apparent why they decided to air Final Exam first. Between underdeveloped characters, an inorganic conflict and a weak resolution, it definitely isn't the series putting its best foot forward. Which is funny because foot-related mishaps are what drive the plot.
Also, we get to witness what could have been - Slade with a butler! Poor Wintergreen, this version of Slade was just too brooding and antisocial for your services.
This is also one of our shortest episodes in a long time. Maybe even the closest we've come to the vaunted "tight 45"! Think we can do it? Or will we lose ourselves in tangents about the cartoon institution of the toxic sludge factory?
===
Also, we DID in fact get two emails after we recorded this episode! Thank you so much, Ari and Alysa - we'll read them out next time!

Uh oh, watch out everyone! Starfire's cool older sister is in town and she's here to tempt our heroes into the depths of depravity. Lock the spice cabinet because she WILL empty your oregano into a baggie and sell it back to you.
We do talk about drugs a lot in this one, as a heads up.
But anyway! Not only is Sisters a fun episode, it's one of our first character study episodes in a show full of great ones. Not to mention a couple study, since this has the show's first big Robin and Starfire moments. Oh, if only Ulrich and Yumi had had this kind of open and honest communication...

After two long years and five even longer months, the dream lives again. Like three cockroaches crawling out of an irradiated crater, the Super Nuclear Group returns to deliver sweet, marketable cartoon nostalgia to your ear holes.
This time, we're bidding a temporary adieu to Avatar and starting fresh with a show all three of us remember with misty-eyed longing - just in time for its 20th anniversary. That's right, it's Teen Titans time!
We're covering the episodes in release order, not production order, so we're starting with Final Exam. It's frankly a better introduction to the series, wherein we meet Raven and those other guys.
Anyway, welcome to Titan Talk!
This was recorded back in July while David and Mary (who live together now!) were visiting his folks in Texas. So view it with that context in mind - but we'll get closer to the present soon.
Pardon our dust as we ramp back up - we have a lot of exciting things in store!

We've reached the midpoint of season two, and with that, the midpoint of the whole show! This is a good time for us to take a little break from internet radio silliness (more on that in the episode), but first, here's Mary, David, and Jess talking owls and Kongsonas (also in the episode, obviously). === As mentioned above, Super Nuclear Group will be going on hiatus for some time. In this episode, the still-incomplete Gaang literally rolls around in raw sewage. (You can do that figuratively by listening to our podcast.) And on that note, who's ready for a lot of jokes about plagues and contagion? Like, jeez, read the room, 2006. Am I right? This episode also introduces us to Mai and Ty Lee, and just the many many ways Azula manipulates them horribly. Where is it, and why doesn't it have representation in Congress? We're introduced to Azula, who is still an incredible villain - despite the fact that, to our aging hosts, she now looks babey. We are also left to linger on the concept of feet. Earthbender feet, that is, and something called "turf toe." You have been warned. This episode of Avatar Recycle carries a content warning for description of animal mutilation of 30:45. As well as, uh, discussion of current events throughout.

It's the season one finale, and Avatar has officially come into its own, like a caterpillar tadpole coming out of its cocoon as a beautiful butterfrog. That's good news, provided that you like hearing three ostensible adults freak out about cartoons. We cover all the bases: Zuko's gradual de-villainization, Ben realizing that the Undertale meme skeletons are fonts, Spirit World shenanigans, Diddy's Kong Quest, when exactly a dying Jedi becomes intangible, Azula, cats, Handsome Squidward and more! Also: we have officially debuted our brand spankin' new Super Nuclear Group logo! In this episode, Katara does some badass stuff, Zhao does some bad stuff (and is an ass), and we talk about a horrible nightmare we all had were M. Night Shyamalan made a terrible movie based on this awesome cartoon. We also talk about Hades, laugh at superstitious yokels, and look at the single worst tweet ever made by anyone, ever.

Apologies for the wait, everyone! Moving and life got in the way but we are BACK!
Welcome back to The Avatar Recycle, the show where we talk about our cats and then, if we have time, Avatar. In this episode, Mary moves down the street, Ben moves across the country, and David stays right the fuck where he is, because in an ever-changing world, it's nice to have a little stability. You're welcome.
It's the first part of the two-part season finale, wherein our merry gang of goofuses travels to the north pole to fight sexism. Iroh sings, Zuko dies, Wakko packs away the snacks, and there is a very real chance that your dad isn't actually your dad.

Donald Trump slowly shrinks and transforms into a corn cob. Ben's mother humiliates him in front of the host of Nickelodeon's Slime Time Live. David crushes his own mother's dreams of being a showbiz mom. Mary roasts her dad's exceptionally dadly qualities. And on Avatar, some kid has to cope with the fact that his dad is in bed with the fantasy reich. That's right, it's an episode all about the trials and tribulations of family relationships. (And moreover, Donald Trump losing.) === First, deep apologies for how late this episode is coming out. I (Mary) was moving this past week, and between packing and everything else time and energy to edit was tough to find. But I'm all moved now and ready to handle anything! Second, there will be no new episode this coming Tuesday/Wednesday. This is because, at this same time, Ben is ALSO moving! And his move is cross-country, so he'll be out of commission for a bit. This time it is David who will not be with us for this one, and Jess who will rise to the occasion and take his place as we take on a SURPRISINGLY intense ATLA episode! All the more so for Mary, because she never saw it the first time round.
What does that mean for you all? A whole lot of well deserved slamming on Heart of Darkness, the secrets of Ben's clown heritage, Aang's best Cornholio impression, and so, so many stories about cats.
Content warnings for discussions of racism and colonialism. As well as cat poop, and spoilers for Death Note.

This episode is all about trust, in the sense that it betrayed ours by being kinda crappy and on-the-nose, as well as having uncomfortable sexual undertones. And speaking of that, watch us revive old Homestuck memes you hoped to never see again! (At least Sokka gets to be smart in this one.)
The Super Nuclear Group would also like to remind our fellow dirty, smelly Yanks to vote, vote, vote! For Joe Biden if at all possible, or failing that, for the D next to his name. We love Joe Biden's D. Can't get enough of it, really.
We also talk Simpsons, Machine of Death, and Reylos, who are all a bunch of [VERY LOVELY PEOPLE].

This is one of those cartoon episodes that tries to be about faith vs. empiricism, but in a way that doesn't piss off any homeschool moms and/or the ACLU. Surprisingly, it doesn't suck, and in fact taught us a very valuable lesson. It taught us what platypuses eat. (It's pebbles and small mollusks, apparently.) In this episode, the role of Ben is played by our good friend Jess, but don't worry, we're definitely not classing up the joint! Much merriment is had discussing the rare and elusive Sugondese frogs. (Would you suck on them? Tell us in the comments!) We also discover that the crazy old people of the Avatar universe are a lot less racist than ours.

This episode involves Aang and Iroh telling heartbreaking stories of past trauma whilst they and their friends huddle around a campfire. Celebrate the occasion by listening to three nerds talk about My Big Fat Greek Wedding whilst hunched over their computers. Be warned: this episode contains more vagina references and discussion than the average Super Nuclear production. (We feel that we really outdid ourselves this time).
Note: We ended up recording this over the course of two days because Mary's throat got too sore to continue the first time. Ben's audio is a little fuzzy on the first day - apologies for that!
(And apologies for the delay as well. Time and time again, I swear I've uploaded this episode! TAR #13 will be out tomorrow.)

Ah yes, here we are. One of the Famously Bad episodes of Avatar, which means it would be a low average in any other show. Even as we try not to judge it by its reputation and/or memes, we still find it... condescending? A bit tone deaf? Paints centrists as the real victims? We're not quite sure what they're actually trying to say here.
But it's okay that this one's a bit of a stinker, because on our end, MARY GOT A CAT! Say hello to Ness, of whom pictures can absolutely be found on our Twitter. And stick around to listen as we avoid talking about this episode by any means necessary, including crabs, "Weed la Weed," and the the Adam Sandler movies we maybe tolerate.

Welcome to the Secret Tunnel, the Rec Room-alike where we take a break from painstakingly recapping a show in order to talk about side material, fan ephemera, and really just whatever the heck we want. This time, we're diving deep into the world of New Avatar Memes, which we are so very grateful for, and sharing some character tidbits from the artbook... But first, let's talk about Code Lyoko! Listeners, hide your bananas, cause we're about to meet some guerillas.
This episode is all about Jet, the freedom fighter dude who is definitely NOT literally just Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, and Jess is here to discuss how cool his hook swords are and whether or not he would vape in real life (he would). And speaking of vore day, Aang's quest to stop the Fire Lord is a little bit like googling that: he's not gonna like what he sees, but may learn something about himself and walk away profoundly changed. In particular, he's going to learn that he has exactly nine months to learn three lifetimes' worth of bending.
This episode also gives us the birth of Inventor Sokka, an important facet of his character that'll help us later! Also, Ben's cat gets cancelled.

Hey, remember that one funny meme where Live-Action Aang reminds a group of earthbenders that they are earthbenders? And then they do a choreographed dance routine that results in a single baseball-sized rock to float slowly across the screen? This is the episode that scene was based on. Surprise! It's much better with funny cartoon people.
Another thing the live-action movie didn't have: George Takei! Here, he features as a prison warden who sounds exactly like Vincent Price. Or maybe George Takei always sounds like that.

Hello, everyone! This is the first episode of what will from here on be a Patreon-exclusive podcast for donors at the $5 and up level! We hope you enjoy this trip into the glory that is SBT!
===
Long ago, in 2010, Cartoon Network gave us something very special: a new Genndy Tartakovsky show, in their classic house style of the mid to late nineties. It may have been overshadowed by the shows with the stretchy dog and the hipster bluebird, but Sym-Bionic Titan was something special. And then, when the world needed it most, they canceled it.
Join us as we recap the best darn fusion of John Hughes and giant mecha anime that Cartoon Network ever swept under the rug. The story of an alien princess, her bodyguard, their robot buddy, and a hat that may or may not be evil in a quadrangle of trouble.
Along the way, Ben accidentally convinces David that Little Caesar's is banned in New York, David accidentally convinces Mary that Popeye is owned by the Kinks, and Michael accidentally believes he is allowed in the bookshelf.
===
A quick note on TAR Episode 4: The expression "X has two hands" refers only to holding hands, and is not a euphemism for anything else. We apologize for the confusion. ===

This episode is all about King [NAME REDACTED]. But we're not supposed to say his name. We say it dozens of times anyway. And no, for once, it's not K*maeda.
But we don't just laugh at our own incompetence. We also laugh at silly internet videos, pausing only to groan at some puns. And somewhere in there, there's some Avatar discussion too.

This episode takes the Gaang to Kyoshi Island, where Sokka learns respect-women-bending from cool new character Suki. Longtime friend of the show Jess joins us yet again to discuss this and other topics tangentially related to grrrl powah, including: skipping your school's water park trip to watch Avatar, air nomad tourists with fanny packs and floral print robes, Swears for the Classy Gent, and the saga of Dave, the lazy painter of Kyoshi Island.

Aang, Katara, and Sokka visit the Southern Air Temple and see a bunch of dead bodies. Meanwhile, Mary, David, and Ben revisit a bunch of old jokes that aren't dead but should be. Ben and David make killer observations, Mary sings about cereal, and the trio debates the ethics of pee-bending. Plus, we learn a shocking fact that almost, but not quite, redeems M. Night Shyamalan. Avatar's two-part premiere continues as Zuko finally captures Aang and we learn a little more about both characters' histories. OR DO WE? We're having a tough time keeping our spoilers to ourselves.
Either way, it's pretty good, but it'd be even better if the three of us were in charge. We'll tell you all about it, at least until we're distracted by a picture of cookie dough.

An important note: we had recorded this episode in late May, simply because we were very excited to do so, before the death of George Floyd and the start of the nationwide protests. We will be making a full statement in The Avatar Recycle #2, but the most important thing I can ask of you is to get educated, donate (or make use of resources that allow you to generate ad revenue for free), and activate yourself as a resource in any way you can for Black lives and Black safety. Here is just one of many, MANY resources that gathers the many ways you can do so in one place: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
In addition, all of our Patreon proceeds for the month of June will be donated to the Community Bail Fund.
Thank you all so much for the ways in which you make us, as creators, proud to have you as a community, and for all the help you've given so far.
===
You asked for it, you got it: episode one of The Avatar Recycle is live! In this episode, you get a quick history lesson, Homestuck references, jokes about old people, and a glimpse into our personal lives that only makes sense to longtime listeners. Eventually, we do talk about Avatar. Get your Na'vi face paint ready, nerds.

It's time to unban Ben from the spoiler corner of the Discord, because the grand finale is finally here. And what a finale it is! The big twist is so momentous, we decided to discuss it first, so if for some insane reason you've been watching the episodes and listening to the podcast at the same time, the best time to stop that was in episode one, you weirdo. The second best time is now.
Who will take home the big prize? Will Don Wei embrace his new role as a man that makes dad jokes? Aren't Ning and Skun awfully close for cousins? Will Ben ever stop talking about Post Malone? These questions and more will be explored in this, the series finale of The Ultimate Reprise! (But stick around for next week's post-mortem!)

There's a hell of a lot happening in this the penultimate episode of Oban. Oban itself is dead, for one thing. Just sand, sand, and sand. Anakin Skywalker is weeping and does not know why. But that's okay, because our intrepid heroes are off to stop the sand and also become God or something. Also, O turns into a giant white mothman with sharks for arms, which is an image so cool it'll make you forget this show is half French.
Also, we hope you all like extended discussions about poop. That was a joke. We know you do. In this episode, we delve into such hard-hitting questions as, "Do aliens poop? Does the presence of a butt a sign that they do in fact poop? And what about vampires, given their liquid diet?" Rest assured, we've already emailed Stephenie Meyer for clarification.

Hey, isn't it funny that it's going to be Homestuck's anniversary soon and we're all literally stuck at home? No? That's not funny at all? Everyone's either sick and dying or losing their minds in self-imposed quarantine because our leaders are a gaggle of know-nothing fascist sh*theads? Huh, you do have a point there, old buddy old pal. At least there's this episode of your favorite podcast to cheer you up.
We know what you want. You wanna hear Ben and David get into an argument about Shakespeare. You wanna learn about that weird legal loophole that lets you get away with murder in Yellowstone Park. You wanna see Molly get hot and bothered over the space elf again. At least one of those oughta tickle your fancy, right?
Note: at a certain point in the podcast, David asks you to donate to our Patreon because his job is in jeopardy. Good news! His job is no longer in jeopardy. (Give us more money anyway.)

Coming to you live from coronavirus lockdown, it's the latest episode of The Ultimate Reprise! (As well as a special, hidden episode of The Ultimate Ben, Earth's only podcast about Ben, starring Ben, and Ben, and Ben.)
Here, we finally discuss the BIG TWIST Ben accidentally guessed eight or so episodes ago. We also discuss Yeehaw Junction, which, magically, is a real place you can go to! Although once you find out which US state it's in, you may not want to. (Yes, it's Florida.)
Important note: due to audio issues, during the last half hour of this program, David will be replaced by various characters from the beloved 1998 video game Banjo-Kazooie.

In this episode, David and Ben google 'big tiddy goth gf' and are horrified by the completely predictable results. We then have our traditional bout of Vriskourse - but first, we dive into this episode of Oban Star-Racers, where Molly and Jordan have a non-racing adventure in a spoopy temple. Inevitably, the conversation turns to whether or not Don Wei is a daddy. But if this isn't what you come here for, you would've dropped us long ago.

This episode is full of feet. We're just gonna put our cards on the table where we can all see them. Feet, and the toes thereof, are discussed with anomalous regularity, as is the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Don't say we didn't warn you. But if you power through, you'll find that we also discuss ferrets, and also David kills Ben repeatedly. So it's not all bad.
Get ready to feel some feels, too, because this is the episode where Molly takes her dad to task for being a massive neglectful d*uchecanoe. Oh, and O is there too, we guess. Be sure to wave at him as he passes by.
This episode of The Ultimate Reprise carries a content warning at 25:50 for mentions of Nazi sympathies, and at 1:01:40 for description/discussion of a TV show episode that makes use of a transmisogynistic plot point.

Has it ever occurred to you that our galaxy is literally named after a streak of boob juice? No? You wish we hadn't put the thought into your head, you say? Welp, too late now. Here's a palate cleanser: we can't figure out whether the king of Nourasia has an impressive beard or impressive ear hair. Wait, that's not any better, is it?
Okay, we have it this time - in this episode, lots of little wiggling ships dive deep into the womb of Oban and encounter several large, round, veiny things! To you non-English majors, this is what's known as a 'metaphor.' (It's aMAZING, though. In this episode, we introduce our special guest Matt of Avana Music to Seagulls, the second greatest piece of music ever written. It's very apropos, since Ben says "Hey man, stop thant bangin'!" when Mike decides to play with the kitchen cabinet doors. Also, we ponder whether it's okay to show a bug vagina on the Disney Channel as long as you color it green. Needless to say, you're in for a very eventful couple of hours.

David and Mary's origin story is revealed at last! Learn the thrilling tale of how a screenshot from this episode resulted in hours and hours of Ben-revolting shmoopiness.
But it's not all butterfly kisses. It's also Sonic references, jokes about crabs doing drugs, and the movie Meet Dave. Oh, and Don finally finds out Molly is his daughter. That is also a thing that happens.

Tensions run high as the Super Nuclear Group disagrees about whether it's good and cool that the Earth Team keeps getting their asses kicked so damn much. Is it a nice change of pace after so many kids' shows where the heroes are basically guaranteed to win? Or is it just a huge heckin' bummer that makes you want to stop watching, lest your heart is torn asunder yet again?

Oban is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. You may think it's a long way down the road to Alwas, but that's just peanuts to Oban.
Of course, every sci-fi adventure needs a good old-fashioned space pirate, and Lord Furter is here to scratch that itch. perhaps with his tongue. Of course, he's also the first dud rival in the show. Will we give him an unflattering nickname to reflect this fact? Well, you've already read the title.
Also, Mary saw a real big stinkbug and in the process of moving away from the Bug Containment Zone accidentally unplugged her mic, and Audacity switched to the laptop mic without any of us realizing. Long story short, loud noise warning for 24:00, and then from about 26:00 onward Mary's audio quality is... less good than desired. We deeply regret the error and lay all of the blame on the stinkbug.

If you're one of the (many, many) people who watched this show and thought, 'This is pretty good, but it'd be even better if there were some lesbian space bikers,' then boy howdy are you going to like this episode. And not only that, there is also a preposterously large eyeball! And a Crog with more ears than most things with ears typically have. We're on Oban now, baby! Things are about to get wild.

Our journey through the gallery of science-fictiony Tolkien creatures continues with Rush, the space dwarf to the Crogs' space orcs and the Norasians' space elves. Unfortunately, the bit where we rank them all based on sex appeal was cut for time. Instead we reminisce about the Night of the Thwomp and the gamer vs. furry war.
Featuring a special guest: the spider that scared the crap out of Mary right in the middle of our recording. (It's from about 50:00-55:00, starting with a loud shout. Mary was able to catch the spider the next day and release it outside their building!)

Hey, did you hear about this Super Racer guy? They say he has an eight pack, and massive balls of solid granite. At least, according to our good buddy Satis - and did you know the two of them have never been photographed together? Passing strange isn't it.
And if that's not enough silly B.S. for you, let us tell you about the time David officially renamed a character in Yooka-Laylee by complete accident (yes, really), Mary discovered a new species of Molly figurine, and Ben implores his cats to BE NICE.

Conflict abounds on this week's Ultimate Reprise as Molly races against the Crog representative, Toros, whose star-racer's spinning trident blades are definitely not for just attracting mates. Meanwhile, Ben shows his true colors by professing a preference for Molly/Aikka, completely rebuking both Jordan and David.
And all three of your hosts have had heart-racing adventures of their own this week. Mary's moved, Ben got hit by a tornado in Dallas, and David's computer has physically fallen apart. But now we're back, and we need someone, anyone, who can tell us what the hell an eboy is.

In this episode, shit gets dark as one character is forced to deal with a debilitating illness and the very real possibility that he'll never again be able to do the thing he loves most. It's handled with tact and care, and it's one of the things that make this show so grown-up for its demographic. There's also a space Olmec that flies around in a giant trombone, because this is still the Disney Channel.
This episode of Oban Star Racers carries a content warning for an alien species name that is identical to a UK-specific ableist slur. While we want to believe this wasn’t intentional, we will not use the name aloud on the podcast.

If you've been watching Oban Star-Racers and thinking, 'Gee, this show is pretty great, but it could use more children in bar fights,' episode four is here to scratch your itch. Molly and Jordan throw down with Grooor, by this point firmly established as the Yosemite Sam of space. Aikka also gets involved, but only after getting crunk at eight a.m. so he can tolerate being around those dirty poors. At least that's what David says.
Oh, and there's also a race or something.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to getting updates in this feed! We've just finished our latest podcast, The Ultimate Reprise, and while we take a bit of a break and do some renewing of our public profile a bit, we will be posting our episodes of The Ultimate Reprise to the RTTP feed! New episodes will go live on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays leading up to the premiere of our yet to be announced new show, which will also be posted to this feed.
Thank you all so much for joining us on this journey, and have fun listening to TUR if you haven't already, and stay tuned for more updates as things move forward!
Welcome, friends old and new, to the first episode of The Ultimate Reprise: Earth's only podcast about Oban Star Racers!
Cool, angsty teen Eva Wei ditches school to go hang out with her dad (as cool teens are wont to do). Little does she realize that she, like you, is on the cusp of a Franime space adventure.
Join the Super Nuclear group (Mary, David, and Ben, for those of you who didn't spend the last three years hearing us babble about Code Lyoko) as they continue to race through the Dubya years, one semi-obscure French cartoon at a time. Now with more uncensored swears!
As I say in the intro here, this will be the last post (for now) in the Return to the Past feed. You can follow the rest of the series at theultimatereprise.com/rss ! Also note that we have changed our twitter handle to @super_nuclear.

If you've never seen Oban Star Racers, you should. We're not mincing words or hiding our peer pressure. If you love cartoons, if exquisite animation and cool ships and aliens and tightly crafted plotting and emotional drama are everything you could ever want out of your cartoons, you owe it to yourself to absorb this series - and ours, since that's what we're doing.
And if you have seen it? FANTASTIC. Here's a good reason to watch it again.
From the creative voices/loudmouths behind Return to the Past: A Code Lyoko Retrospective comes - that's right - a full second recap/rewatch podcast about a French animated cartoon from the early-mid 2000s co-created by Thomas Romain. Join Mary and David as they revisit and share a show that is incredibly powerful and special to them, and Ben as he watches it for pretty much the first time!
You can watch along with us through the Oban: Star Racers DVDs, or purchase the digital copies on Youtube or Amazon.
Our first episode drops Monday, September 9th!

Stay tuned for a few more special features to come in this feed! Including a trailer for our new Oban Star Racers podcast, The Ultimate Reprise, the first episode of which will go live on September 9th, 2019.
Also, we had to do a few pickup recordings for this episode, so apologies if there are any choppy cuts! We tried to make it as natural as possible. And again thank you, thank you so much.

Here it is: the final battle. The big enchilada. Ninety-four episodes of cartoon nonsense, all leading up to this. William is back on Earth, Xana is on the ropes, Ulrich and Yumi are... still making room for the Holy Spirit. What do our three very tired hosts make of it? Tune in to find out!
Well, we mostly exposit on the crucial difference between catboys and boys who are cats. But we also give in to a serious case of the Feels. Join us for our penultimate episode!

You said you wanted plot? Well, here's some plot! Here's all the plot! Here's three seasons' worth of plot, all in twenty-two minutes! Eat it up, little piggies! There's one and a half episodes left and we are limping right the hell to that barn!
If you, like many an OG Code Lyoko fan, wonder when and how the show would resolve the plot threads pertaining to Xana, William, and Clone William, the answers are 'right now' and 'poorly.' Join Mary, David, and Ben as they press F for the sweetest fake boy in the world. And also talk about insect sex. (Yeah, we know what you're really here for.)

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck, or many duck-sized horses? These and other brain busters will be grappled with on this episode of Return to the Past, as our very tired hosts do whatever it takes to avoid recapping yet another clunker. At least this one has spooky Soviet experiments in it. Just in time for Stranger Things season 3.

It's been over ninety episodes of this Lyoko crap. How about we pivot to Evangelion instead? That's hot and trendy again, right? And, really, is there anything more fun than listening to young white people share their brave yet controversial opinions about anime? Join us for ten minutes of that, followed by a long groan of an episode of a far inferior thing that isn't even a real anime.
Also featured: Ben pokes gentle fun at his goofball of a stepfather and makes lascivious comments about cartoon characters again, David tells the surprising but true story of the time some jackass filed a complaint with his employer because of a disagreement about Rick and Morty, and Mary laughs for 40 seconds straight at a dancing Ukranian man.
Also, we'll need your help for two upcoming projects! We'd like to assemble a "clip show" of show moments for Echoes, and a collection of listener messages (written or recorded, your choice) for our final season break/postmortem. If you would like to contribute to either, please let us know at rttppodcast@gmail.com !
This Code Lyoko episode carries a content warning for jokes about and imagery reminiscent of suicide. This episode of Return to the Past carries a content warning for discussion of this scene starting at 1:22:00.

In this episode, we decided to cover a dying industry, kept barely alive by a small handful of unattractive white men who fear competent women and throw a tantrum whenever they see a brown person. Unfortunately, our episode on the Republican party wasn't finished on time, so instead, let's talk about comic books! Excelsior!
That's right: Code Lyoko once had a comic book series, canceled after three issues when it became apparent that nobody gave a sh*t. EXCEPT FOR US! Join us as we discuss bee golems, quote-unquote "groupies", the latest in jock lingo, and more four-color funnybook hilarity!

We continue or coverage of Code Lyoko as it squeezes out its last few squeaky, underwhelming farts. This week, twenty-one minutes and thirty seconds of nothing in particular followed by one of the biggest revelations in the show's history. And by 'biggest revelations' we mean 'A thing that definitely happened.'
Also: Mary, David, and Ben investigate whatever happened to the Numa Numa Guy (spoiler: nothing much), Ben and David make Futurama references that confuse and delight Mary, and and Ben betrays his people by exhibiting knowledge of sports.

In 'Music to Soothe the Savage Beast,' there is no savage beast unless you count Sissi and William, and music certainly does not soothe them. But, despite its woefully inaccurate title, this used to be David's favorite episode of Code Lyoko! Does it hold up? Let's find out!

In this episode, we meet Jeremie's cousin Patrick, who is pale and broody and has a caramel pompadour. Uh-oh! Does he also sparkle in the sunlight and watch girls in their sleep??? (You groan, but that joke would've killed in 2007.)
Join Mary, David, Ben, and very special guest Dianna as they reheat this and many other Dubya-era knee-slappers. (And, indeed, as a spam email sends Ben face-first into a creepypasta.)
Note that this episode is so soapy, we half-expected an eyepatch-wearing evil twin to turn up at the end. It's so soapy, it damn near disinfected our bathrooms.

Ground control to Major Tom, someone set us up the bomb! This episode was scheduled to come out on Monday, but due to an act of sabotage by internet gremlins, it's coming at you today instead. Sorry!
But yes, it's true - like other classic TV characters before them, including but not limited to Josie and the Pussycats and Fonzie, the Lyoko Warriors are taking a trip to space. In addition, we finally reveal Ben's cat's full name (which we didn't really know was a mystery but damn if it didn't just get solved), David travels back in time to ride dinosaurs with Jesus, and Mary laughs at Jean-Pierre in a penguin costume.

Some people like Code Lyoko. Others like robot dog buttholes. Once in a generation, something magical happens that brings these two warring tribes together. That thing is this episode.
Alas, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, as this episode also marks the last appearance of Ben's favorite character, Johnny (don't worry, we've prepared a fitting send-off). There's also some racism, helpfully inserted by the English translation, perhaps in order to make the episode more relatable to Americans.

Welcome to another rip-roaring episode of this BS. Today, we're going to talk about Brynja, the character that made the (admittedly pretty meager, but plenty enthusiastic) Code Lyoko fandom sh*t their collective britches back in ye olden times. What exactly is she? A chaos demon? A parody of Mary Sues? Mary, David, Ben, and local cryptid Jess investigate, all whilst getting roped into another argument about whether D&D is for nerds or whether cool kids are also allowed to join in.
But wait, that's not all! We also discuss farts, Shakespeare, farts in Shakespeare, which of the Lyoko characters would vape, again (spoiler: it's William), and Australia's frightening animals and lovely listeners. Also, Ben, Jess, and Mary teach David how gays sit.
This episode of Code Lyoko and of RTTP contains a content warning for mentions of suicide in the beginning; in here it's around the 11 minute mark. There is also a mention of animal death at around 1:34:00.

Today on Return to the Past, David rattles off a long list of weird Scooby-Doo knockoffs that he found on Twitter. And not a moment too soon, because, if Mike the cat's constant distressed mewling is any indication, Ben's Xbox summons a ghost when it's powered on! Anyone know how we can contact Goober and the Ghost Chasers?
While we worry about that, you can enjoy this fresh new episode (as of twelve years ago) of Code Lyoko, wherein Jeremie is invited to a real missile launch by a French airman who looks and sounds like if Tom Cruise circa Top Gun had a baby with Elvis. It is a hoot and not to be missed.
This RTTP episode carries a content warning for a brief discussion of animal abuse at 34:00.

In this episode, Odd has no luck because Vriska already took aaaaaaaall of it! [Editor's note: David wrote that joke. Rest assured that he has been fired.]
In between an honestly corny framing device in which we find out luck is real in the Lyokoverse (along with ghosts, souls and pink hair), we get Ulrich and Yumi actually being adorably flirty for once, more ABANDONED AMERICAN MILITARY BASE shenanigans, and humor flowing from Jim like beer piss from a hobo's bladder.
We ALSO have an incredible special guest for this one - Matt of Avana Music, as you may recognize from our amazing opening and closing theme! Thank you so much Matt for gracing us with your presence, and for letting us school you in the wonderful world of Tay Zonday's Chocolate Rain.

Plot? In MY season four? It's more likely than you think! Granted, this episode doesn't contribute to the story so much as it recalls old plot points from seasons one and two, but beggars can't be choosers. At least this episode [I GEDDIT!] officially introduces Odd's five sisters, to the delight of fanfic writers everywhere (read; Mary), and almost but not quite gives us a look at Franz Hopper's eyes.

We could not be more excited to share this episode with you today. Not only do we have two very special guests (Translation Shaman-Scientist Sarah and Gargalax the Unknowable) But guess who's back? OUR SWEET BOI, Clone William.
And he's sweeter - and smarter - than ever, imitating Odd's silly pranks and bravely defending his friends from dangerous evil Williams. Unfortunately, our brave and morally just heroes spend most of the episode reasoning their way out of thinking of him as a sentient being. And then trying to convince us with the same, with little success.

Behold, our latest and most desperate ratings grab: a live episode! Our friends joined us in a Twitch stream where we answered questions and shot the breeze about live, the universe, and Code Lyoko.
Mary and David make fun of Wreck-It Ralph 2, the trio talks about genies and bears with at least one genuine Australian, and Mary pits Ben against David in a surprise Code Lyoko trivia contest that we somehow all manage to lose.
Thanks to everyone who joined us on the stream! And to those of you who didn't, we still love you, but you've now been demoted to mere silver-tier RttP fans. Sorry, we don't make the rules. (We totally do.)

Get ready to unearth some long-repressed memories. In lieu of a normal episode, we're discussing four of Cartoon Network's "Groovies" - those animated music videos that used to play between shows in the Powerhouse (and maybe also the CN City?) eras. So if you're here for Code Lyoko, you may be disappointed, but if you're a fan of sharks with goatees, this may be the show you've been waiting for!
By the by, we'll be hosting a Twitch stream on Friday, March 22 at http://www.twitch.tv/supernucleargroup where you'll be able to "ask us anything," as the teens are saying these days. Not only about Lyoko but about life, the universe, and everything. So thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned!

Hey, do you like it when Code Lyoko just gets friggin wacky? Bam, here's an episode where Odd turns into a dog. The disparity between the realistic depictions of middle school angst and nonsense like this never ceases to amaze. Also, there are stinky feet jokes (the fart jokes of Europe).
Join the usual trio of franime trash people (your humble hosts!) as they gush over Clone William, reminisce about the halcyon days of AlbinoBlackSheep, and talk about Spider-Man. Lots and lots of Spider-Man.

This episode contains practically zero teen drama and is all about the lasers and kicking, so you'd think it's pretty bad, right? Actually, not so! There's a wee smidge of Flanderization, but that aside, it makes us care about the nuts and bolts of Code Lyoko's plot - a rare feat indeed.
Also, Ben tells us about the Horse Hole. What is it? Mary and David were hoping you could tell us. Additional topics of discussion include: male nipples (feat. a lengthy digression about the movie Time Bandits), cheese poops, incomprehensible Gen-Z memery, and sock enspidering.

In this, the """"lost"""" episode, it turns out XANA is much more powerful than any of us ever imagined, what with his cybernetic spiders and his robot army and his growing brains (I swear, guys, this is a thing that happens). Unfortunately, this revelation doesn't get nearly as much attention as a frankly unengaging attempt to convince us that a forgotten birthday is enough to make Yumi hate Ulrich forever.
Meanwhile, in 'Murica, Mary and David exercise their own brand of all-encompassing power by engineering a way to talk about cloacas again. Marvel as David opens his Valentine's Day present live on the air, as well! (I mean, you can't see it, but you ASMR enthusiasts may be tickled silly by our paper-crinkling action.)

Season four keeps the hits coming with a rather touching episode about Yumi and Hiroki's fraught relationship - even if it does involve them all being very dumb in very entertaining ways. It also introduces William's snazzy new ship, the Rorqual, which looks like a Navskid with a Dib ahoge on it. Needless to say, it's pretty rad.
And speaking of sea life, Mary's quest to convince David to love isopods continues, Ben and David share their favorite anecdotes about incorrect usage of the word 'pimp,' and the 'Group announces their cool new domain name! You won't believe which mythical creature it's themed after.

We like this episode because Clone William is in it for about ten seconds, and also (thanks to some MoonScoop intern mailing the wrong model sheets to Vietnam, we presume) because the characters all wear their S1-3 outfits for one last, glorious time. But you know what? It's a pretty good episode regardless! This Francois Deon guy knows what he's doing. It's a pity he never wrote another one.
We also talk about Kingdom Hearts some more, give Florida the drubbing it deserves, and Mary makes some inroads into getting David to love isopods. Honestly, if you want any more than that, you're just being greedy. Give us your click already.

Hey... you into hot showers? No, not the ones from Urban Dictionary, you filthy little goofball. I'm talking about the giant meteorite that Xana sends hurtling toward the Earth in this episode of Code Lyoko. And it seems like only yesterday he was making food golems. How our little computer demon has grown!
Join Mary, David, Ben, and special guest Quinn as we recap it all as only we can (poorly). And if you were worried this would be the episode we finally stop cracking jokes about buttholes, you can breathe easy yet again.

It's real Lyoko hours! Who's ready for the episode that broke a million hearts (well, more like a couple dozen) back in twenty aught seven? Will Jim's long-rumored involvement in the making of Lyoko finally be confirmed, or will we get jokes about animal feces instead? I know which one I'm hoping for!
Come hear us bumble our way through yet another one of Lyoko's most infamous clunkers. Our final assessment may or may not surprise you! And if that's not your thing, then come to laugh at David instead. The f*ckin' weeb thought Death Cab for Cutie was an anime.

Replika is the most memorable episode of season four - we know, because for once, all three of us remembered what the darned thing is about. Odd/Aelita validation, Nicolas wearing human boy pants, and heretofore unprecedented levels of queenly sass await you in this morsel of an episode.
Join us yet again as we not only discuss Lyoko, but laugh at Ben for accidentally conflating Michael Cera and John Cena, which is quite possibly the funniest f*cking thing that's happened on the podcast so far, and also make jokes about a black hole that is also an anus. Have you ever dug out a toy you loved as a child, only to find it dinky and unimpressive as an adult? This episode is one such toy. Much like Rise Kujikawa's omelette, it's brimming full of the ingredients we love, but comes out tasting like nothing regardless.

This is the episode where Jeremie gets his pea green and neon blue capris. We're sure other stuff happens in the episode, but we were too distracted by those godawful pants to notice or care. We advise you not to look directly at them for an extended period, as you will surely go blind or be turned into a pillar of salt.
But actually, a ton of stuff happens here. Like the delightful revelation that, in the world of Code Lyoko, the internet really is a series of tubes, or our in-depth discussion of whether it'd be fun to be a baby. There's also the time Sarah the Translation Shaman/Scientist schooled us about cellular biology. The details are too juicy to spoil here, but as is so often the case with us, they involve Jimmy Neutron.

Unspeakable Sex Acts broke up (for about a week), so no new episode today, guys. But Mary and David did take the time to read a whole bunch of your emails, so there is that!
That's right - we take a break from rambling about Homestuck and Smash Bros. and give YOU the floor to, er, ramble about Homestuck and Smash Bros. We know our audience, and our audience knows us.
So let us take you back to the year 2007, when Code Lyoko was still on the air, Carlos Mencia was making waves with his new strain of race-based comedy hijinks, and Steven Segal had not yet gone publicly insane.

Note: David has a few moments in this episode where his audio suddenly cuts out. I think I've fixed most of them, but let me know if you catch any more and I can see what I can do about them!
This episode was supposed to be a dramatic reading of Ben and Mary's old Code Lyoko crack fic. And it was! But then we decided we don't want to be associated with the thing anymore. We've grown up a lot in the past five years and we're no longer comfortable with many of the jokes that we once found hilarious. So instead of a whole lot of cringe, get ready for... well, a whole lot of cringe. But now it's about Smash Bros.
To make up for the lack of fanfic, we're opening up an extra hefty mailbag! Yu-Gi-Oh, Street Fighter II, Little Witch Academia, and an equation that turns you gay are but some of the topics we cover.

Not to yank our own dingdongs, but it isn't often that Code Lyoko and RttP are both in top form in the same episode.
You want action, comedy, high-stakes middle school dramedy? Skidbladnir delivers. You wanna hear Mary, Ben, and David (but mostly Ben and David) break into an impromptu slapfight over Homestuck and wax nostalgic about the sticky horrors of puberty? Again, you've come to the right place.
Of course, we also eulogize every millennial's unofficial sensei, Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away on November 26. There isn't anything funny about that. But, in his honor, we've cranked the SpongeBob puns and references up to eleven. Happy trails, Ocean Man. You were number one.

Anyway, this is the episode with Clone William. He make our kokoro go doki doki by holding various objects in kawaii ways. At least until he gets tired of being nice and goes ape sh*t.
Oh, and hey! No more royalty-free stock music for us! Let's give a warm welcome to the newest member of the RttP crew, Matt, who composed our hella tubular new theme song!

We're not quite sure how to feel about this Jeremie kid. We want to believe in him - we really do! - but he's also kind of a sh*t. Which is a roundabout way of saying that this is the episode wherein we talk about relationship dynamics. Hooray?
But also, it's Subdigitals time! Remember when MoonScoop tried to make their own Cheetah Girls/Hannah Montana (or the Archies, if you're my dad)-style fake real band? We remember. The man wants us to forget, but we remember.
Also featured: a friendly lesbian analyzes Clone William (conclusion: he's gay), David teaches us the word "avuncular," and our own fake band awkwardly performs the Highwayman song from the spoopy elf cartoon. Join us - it'll be a riot.

If you thought the real Jeremie was kind of a sh*t, wait till you meet his clone! The only reason he doesn't wear a fedora is that his head is too big! Wait, we think that applies to the real Jeremie too.
But don't worry, this episode also introduces Clone!William. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but at least he wasn't looking kind of dumb with his finger and his thumb in the shape of an L on his generously-proportioned forehead. (Tune in for this and more hip references.)
Honestly, it'd be easier to list things that DIDN'T happen in this episode. You've got Jim Wisdom(?), you're got Penguin Recapitators, and you've got XANA-William being real creepy with almost no explanation. You've also got Ben sharing his expertise on cat toe beans, and part one of the RTTP Fashion Corner, as we say goodbye to the old outfits and hello to skintight spandex.

Ah, I remember this episode! It's the one where SpongeBob forgets everything except fine dining and breathing! Wait, no, sorry, I was thinking of something much better.
In this episode, the 'Group gets in the Halloween spirit by discussing Wolfman and the having of nards thereof (can you believe those chucklenuts Mary and Ben haven't seen Monster Squad?!), as well as each Lyoko Warrior's favorite horror movie, probably.
We also discuss the show's sudden onslaught of continuity, with everything from Milly, Tamiya, and Jeremie's feud to Odd's skulduggery regarding Paco, the King of Disco suddenly featuring in the plot. Oh yeah, and Dat Boi comes again. That's kind of important too.

Well, we hope you all liked or at least loved to hate William, cause he's basically not in the show anymore. That's right - dat boi has come and gone, leaving behind Ben and Mary's shameful memories and the usual sticky teenage residue.
And, AND, a perfect ten of a season finale! It's an enormous number of phone calls, not one but TWO long-vanished characters, and so many subplots you'll think Jasper Fforde wrote it. (Please email us if you thought that joke was funny.) And amazingly it all works together, leaving us in the end with Code Lyoko's usual sense of longing for answers we'll never have.
We also discover that a full two-thirds of the podcast is COMPLETELY WRONG about the greatest 80s song of all time (it's Africa by Toto, and nothing can change my mind, boys). And give heartfelt advice to teens about living life to the fullest!

No, you didn't hallucinate this episode whilst high on jenkem - Ulrich really does briefly become a dog. There's other stuff too, of course, like the troubling implication that Mrs. Hertz swings, but Ulrich body-hopping like an angsty teen Mario Odyssey is the highlight. Unless you're the type that focuses on abject misery, because the gang does think Ulrich is dead for probably the longest they've ever thought a teammate was dead.
On the other hand, those of you who've wondered if Mary has ever glued her butt to a chair are definitely in for a treat, as your humble hosts once again expose their dysfunctions for your pointing and laughing delight.

In this episode, the RttP gang revisits an episode they all forgot and the Code Lyoko gang visits a grove of handsy trees, which reminds the RttP gang of why they blocked out the episode in the first place. Groovy.
On that note, this episode of Code Lyoko carries a content warning for a sentient vine going up a character's shirt.

In what is perhaps the most rambling an incoherent episode of the Rec Room yet, we discuss Code Lyoko: Evolution's series finale, ponder what kind of web presence the Lyoko children would have today, and Ben and David have a farting contest. Every once in a while, we get an episode where the writers clearly didn't give a fck. This is one of those episodes. Now, being discerning and sophisticated consumers of media, we normally crinkle our noses at that kind of thing, but this time's a little different. Like a Flash cartoon hastily made by a lolrandom teen on Albinoblacksheep (anybody remember that?), sometimes a total unwillingness to give even a single fck can lead to great things.
This is an episode where Jim strongly implies that he once wrote a porno. An episode where an old woman challenges Yumi to gamble for drugs. An episode where the theater teacher complains that Kadic's anemic budget forces them to constantly reuse sets, which I can't imagine isn't a metaphor for Code Lyoko itself. It's like there was some kind of passive-aggressive slapfight in the MoonScoop office immediately prior to making this episode, and we are so there for it, because we are drama b*tches and make no apologies for it.

At long last, Dat Boi here come for more than like 30 seconds. But, but that's all the time he needs to make Mary and Ben feel ashamed of themselves for having had crushes on him as children. (Meanwhile, David points and laughs and hugs his Vriska daikamura.)
Why? Because he's a scrub, which, as TLC taught us, is a guy who thinks he's fly and is also known as a buster. So today we're here to kick ass and dismantle his toxic notions of romantic gestures, AND WE'RE ALL OUT OF ASS.
We also discover what tractor pulling REALLY is, and accidentally and tragically remind ourselves of the existence of jenkem. Speaking of, around 1:10:00 we have a truly awful conversation with lots of, not profanity, but bathroom words and ideas. We are all very ashamed of ourselves.

After weeks of teasing, we're finally showing you the goods. How well does The Pretender hold up, actually? Does it fly high like a crow possessed, or buckle under the weight of its awkwardness and casual racism? Will David be validated, or stomp away in an impotent rage like a Waluigi fan after E3? The answer may shock you!
And speaking of Smash Bros, which characters would the Lyoko Warriors main? Are we childish enough to stop the show dead in its tracks to laugh at a fake used car ad and troll Ben's sweet mother with incomprehensible coolkid lingo? Well, you probably know the answer to one of those questions already. Tune in for the other one.

Cards on the table: this episode is roughly 50% plot and 50% stinky feet jokes. Which, fun fact, none of us actually remembered until we were about five minutes into the episode!
And the weirdest thing about that is, it's still just as poignant as we thought it was back then. It gives us a ton to think about as far as Aelita's relationship with her father and her memories of her past, a big moment of tension with her and Jeremie, and one of the greatest moments of emotional maturity Odd has ever exhibited. But also there's foot stink. Just all of it, all the jokes.
(But don't worry too much about that - we're still making our OWN jokes! Including one that made Ben literally spit water all over his room.)
IN OTHER NEWS! You've heard us talk about this for months, but we're finally doing it! We have a lot of fun here at Return to the Past, but every one in a while, an episode comes along that leaves us scratching our heads.
Is it Code Lyoko's attempt at being topical and political (it features both anthrax and Tamagotchi), recycled from a script for a mid-90s Jim Carrey movie that would never be, or simply an adaptation of a NyQuil fever dream the writers had one night? We'll probably never know.
Were Tamagotchi still a thing in 2006? Why does one of the government agents sound like Michael Jaleel White? Is there a God? Why did Danimals retire all their animal mascots except for the monkey when clearly the Strawberry Kiwi alligator was the far superior spokesman? These and many other questions will not be answered on our show today, with Mary, Ben, David, and our special celebrity guest, Mary's dog.

Just a heads up - both David and Ben had some audio issues in this episode, so apologies for any static!
Would you eat an apple that had fallen on the floor? What if that happle had been part of a giant killer food golem? That and other questions will be explored in today's episode of Return to the Past.
Our goofy cartoon villain conjures a food monster, our plucky kid heroes learn a moral about healthy eating, and the Russians are screwing with us again. It's like we're back in the eighties! Anybody got some cocaine?

Season three introduces its big new gimmick: Waelita (that's our name for Evil Aelita - we're trying to make it happen) and her penchant for deleting Lyoko one sector at a time. If only it hadn't done it in one of the lamest episodes since season one! The puns fly as fast as the ancient memes and Homestuck references as Mary, Ben, and David once again attempt to grapple with their feelings towards the latter half of the show. Only one thing is certain: at least one of us is getting fired. A lot.

This may not come as a surprise to any of you, but watching the start of Season 3 for the first time in a decade has confirmed for Mary and Ben that yes, they were in fact remembering it through the eyes of bitter angry teens. (David has well and proper gotten his revenge for "firmly grasp it.")
So we've come at Straight to Heart again with fresh new eyes, and in the process we've discovered more to love about it! We spent ten minutes trying to figure out French summer vacation system, sang the praises of Hiroki 2.0, and slowly but surely realized that slamming the brakes on the Yumi/Ulrich train was very much the best thing for Yumi to do.
We also carefully sidestepped trying to understand Time Cube, and instead basked in all the glorious emails we've gotten over the past week! Thank you so much, again, for this peer validation and peer approval.

Meanwhile, the adults in the room, Mary and Ben, talk about the infamous Code Lyoko prequel (as adults are wont to do).
No one seems to agree on this thing - we're not even sure if it's the first episode of the series, the last episode of season two, the first of season three, or the last of season four! Is it good? In some ways The Key is every bit as beautiful as we remembered that it was, with intricate storytelling, intense plot developments, and hints at a greater and more challenging battle yet to come.
On the other hand... how did we not remember the RIDICULOUS levels of mood whiplash in this episode? Some of the most intense and upsetting moments in the entire series are bookended with school dance drama, and would that we could reach into the past and change that.
Still, we hope you enjoy this episode, where we celebrate The Key for its highs, work our way through its less-than-great pacing decisions, and contribute our own usual nonsense. Mary calls a DND spell "firebolt" instead of "fireball" by accident, David resurrects old memes, and Ben throws down the gauntlet to you, the listeners.

Note before we start: We are experimenting with making the Rec Rooms explicit-rated which in this case just means we don't bleep out the swears. Be on the lookout for some HECKIN ROUGH LANGUAGE.
It's time to take a break from high-octane (for a certain value of "high-octane") Lyoko action and just shoot the breeze for a little while. Call it the calm before the storm that the two-part season finale represents. We tell stories about our experiences with Code Lyoko fandom, argue about our favorite eras of Cartoon Network, and talk about the time Mark Hamill went from hanging out with a gay robot to playing one on adult swim. We also bite down hard on a juicy interview with Sophie Decroisette that contradicts everything you thought you knew about Code Lyoko! Well, maybe.
And hey, what's this? We put an ad out on a slightly more popular podcast? You'd better believe it! If you're a McElboy fan, here for the first time, welcome! And, er, you might wanna start with literally any other episode. This one's kind of a cluster.

Nah, but we kid, this episode is good. The plot keeps thickening and the characters keep making the same kind of nonsensical, boneheaded decisions we've come to love them for. A weird old guy shows up in the factory, and despite the fact that he doesn't appear to eat, sleep, or get out of his cahir, he's totally not a XANA attack, you guys.
He's here to fix absolutely everything that's ever gone wrong for the Lyoko Warriors, convince Yumi that she has brain cancer, and maliciously ostracize Jeremie from the group (and on his BIRTHDAY, too!). Thankfully, this is one of the episodes where he (Jeremie) gets to be heroic.
We're also the luckiest viewers ever this time because we get to meet The Man, The Myth, The Legend, #1 Best At Dad Michel Belpois. Not a doormat like Jean-Pierre, not passive-aggressive like Yumi's parents, and not a total dick like Ulrich's dad. Just a nice, normal dude who loves his son and wants him to succeed. And call his parents more often.

Who's ready to get heckin' spoopy?
Our second kind-of-but-not-really quasi-Halloween special reveals that ghosts exist in the Code Lyoko universe! I mean, it doesn't make much of a difference, if any at all, but it's there. They canon'd it; they can't un-canon it. Oh and also Sissi's into witchcraft apparently.
This episode is special because it's the only one penned by guest writers Neil Gaiman and Tim Burton! Nah, just kidding, it's just Bruno Merle and Jean-Remi Francois again. But we totally had you going for a second there, didn't we? ...oh, we didn't? Well, shoot. We'll try harder next time.
Join us for ominous Latin chanting, Powerpuff Girls references (an RTTP rarity!), and another awkward attempt to shoehorn Code Lyoko into a popular meme. In other words, the good sh*t that keeps you coming back. Enjoy!

Good news for rubbernecks: this episode is a slow-motion train wreck, a veritable cavalcade of characters making baffling decisions and generally acting like total dicks. Do we like it anyway? Of course we do, because we're absolute sheep for Code Lyoko. I'm just saying, this time we came awfully close to only liking it ironically.

Note: At a few point during this episode, David's audio will cut out for a split second for some reason, and it's left a few jokes without punchlines. x.x My apologies!
Can you believe that absolutely NO ONE saw the twist about the meaning of Aelita's visions coming at the time? Or maybe we did, and we didn't want to see it? Either way, new mysteries are afoot, new tensions are a-brewin', and after about the 13th minute of the episode we drop almost all of it to spend ten minutes flipping around on Lyoko, as has become the custom. (Somehow no memory of this survived into my twenties.)
Anyway, we at RTTP SUPER hope you enjoy this one, and that those of you new to the show are on the edge of your seats, as much as you can be since we've spoiled a whole lot.
As promised, we've done EXTRA emails this time! We've also wondered why anyone would go to the trouble of stealing a piano, realized that William is barely in this show, and invoked the name of K*maeda, The Forbidden One.

Sporky and Shin Garrett of Going Digital join us once again to talk about Code Lyoko, but this time, we'll be discussing an actually good episode! (We're not saying we ate Davide for talking too much crap about Rock Bottom?, but we're not NOT saying it, either.)
This episode is about as dark as Code Lyoko gets, putting its teenage characters in the sort of peril you don't normally see in cartoons. But don't worry - we're rolling out some of our finest jokes about rectal thermometers and unwashed sumo loincloths to defuse the tension. You're welcome.
We also introduce Edna the camerawoman, quite possibly (and we don't say this lightly) the show's most splendiferous two-bit player since Thomas Jolivet.

If you're the kind of viewer who feels that Code Lyoko circles around its problems but never actually address them, we have some good news: this episode invents a brand-new lifelong phobia for one of the main characters and sees him overcome it in the span of twenty-two minutes. Executives at Cartoon Network tried to put a stop to that madness, alleging that it would be unappealing to boys ages six to twelve, but MoonScoop went ahead with their bold vision for the show.
Which is why France is at the pinnacle of culture and taste, and everything we filthy yanks make is consumerist garbage. Anyway, let's watch some cartoons.
Of course, there's also the three of us talking nonsense, a.k.a. the main event, kind of. We make fun of Yumi's questionable Japanese, steal jokes right out of Entertainment Weekly (who even reads magazines anymore, right? lol), introduce you to the wonderful world of gay baseball metaphors, and comment on this episode's many weird Marvel references!
Oh, wait, we forgot to actually bring those up! Well, they're there because MoonScoop was also producing a Fantastic Four cartoon at the time. And now you know.

Masturbation and vore jokes about Richard Dawkins? Oops, that last one was too hot for general audiences. Throw us a buck on Patreon and we'll let you check out our outtakes, though. (Hey, we've gotta pay the bills somehow.)

Who's ready to cringe? Today's episode is one of those nameless treasures: the mid-2000s cartoon about a boy and a girl swapping bodies and somehow managing to (almost) never address the fact that they now have different bits. Can Ben, Mary, and David milk that premise for jokes? Will Ben and Mary literally collapse under the weight of their secondhand embarrassment? If you're asking that question, it's like you don't even know us.
Prepare for dick jokes, sailor fuku discussion, and questions about whether various things are gay (spoiler alert: they are).
This episode of Code Lyoko carries a content warning for a boy and a girl swapping bodies (and the requisite cisnormativity that comes with it).

WARNING: Mary was recording on the wrong mic for the first five minutes, and the end result is just about the worst and most grating audio this podcast has ever experienced. I have tried to fix it as best I can, but feel free to skip ahead to where I turn my real mic on and everything is fine.
We are ALL over the place on this episode, folks. Is it because this episode is ridiculously buck wild? Is it because we're tired and it's the end of a long weekend? Is it because we are incorrigible, meme-loving h*cks? Trick question, it is in fact all three.
Let's focus on the buck wild, BECAUSE IT IS. Kadic faces the unthinkable circumstance of a principal apparently going rogue and kidnapping two students, Sissi once again passes a Lyoko Warrior audition that no one was interested in conducting, and XANA proves himself to be as complicated as he is predictable. Meanwhile, Mary, David and Ben discuss the winter Olympic sports that suit the Warriors best, record ASMR descriptions of the world's most incomprehensible memes, and uncover one of the English dub cast's long-slumbering secrets.

It's the episode you've been waiting for, maybe! Mary, Ben, and David finally answer their email and give a six-Pokémon team to every Lyoko Warrior. If a trio of bumbling dorks awkwardly mispronouncing Pokémon names is your idea of fun, give us a click and let the good times roll! If you still get flashbacks to that one commercial where Zack and Cody overemphasize the é in Pokémon (you know the one we mean), maybe steer clear of this one.
When we're done upsetting the weebs in our audience, it's time to read some fanfic! Each one of your humble hosts read the first few chapters of a recommended Code Lyoko fanfic, and we're ready to present our book reports to the whole class. Doctor Who subbing for Mrs. Hertz? Deep and intricate monster societies? A transfer student OC that doesn't suck? You made it all up; now we're repackaging it and selling it right back to you. Hey, don't forget to give us money on Patreon!

Folklorists speculate that zombies are popular because they let us indulge in guilt-free fantasies about inflicting violence on the people around us. Code Lyoko decided that that's as good an excuse as any to finally show us cartoon children beating the snot out of each other. The Super Nuclear group concludes that that is actually kind of hilarious. But that's not all! In addition to the violence, there's ridiculously inappropriate nudity as well. Unless you're in France, I guess. Silly Europeans! When will you learn to be ashamed of your bodies?
As usual, Mary, Ben, and David are here to gently spread a soothing ointment on your burning questions. How hard does the show try to make you forget it's set in France? (Very.) How many plot contrivances are there to explain why the children can't count on the adults to defend them from the zombie horde? (One, and it's fainting. Lots and lots of fainting.) Did the gaggle of bozos that pass for podcast hosts around here finally make up Pokémon teams for the Lyoko Warriors, as requested in that email a couple weeks ago? (No, but ask us again next week.)

At the end of most episodes of Return to the Past, your humble hosts ask themselves this question: are we going to give this episode a perfect ten, or merely a nine point five? This time, however, there's a radical difference of opinion! Are you on #TeamDavidAndMary, or are you on #TeamBen? As is so often the case, your answer probably depends on your feelings toward Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.
Are Aelita's sick grinds pointless, or radical? Is Yumi's dad running around in full samurai regalia badass, or goofy? Is the return of the Ulrich/Yumi/William love triangle and embarrassing cliché, or the very reason we remember these characters so fondly? You be the judge! (And then listen for the correct answer from Mary and David. This episode rules.)
But that's not all! This is another theory-heavy episode! Wanna hear our latest thoughts on the mystery of Jim Morales's past? ...no? Well, crap. That's okay, though. Some internet content isn't for everyone.

Okay, so remember how I said all that stuff about Common Interest and how it took the show's subject matter to a new level but ultimately didn't follow through in the way it should have? Imagine another Common Interest, but with a plot that DOES follow through from start to finish. Mostly.
Meet Temptation, the most thought-provoking episode of Code Lyoko yet. At least for Mary, aka me, for whom the entire reason she still loves Code Lyoko clicks in this episode.
Join us as we dissect childhood perspectives, face our adult fears, and also do a lot of the usual nonsense like inventing a Sonic podcast (Return to the Fast) and answering an age - old question: would you rather fight a hundred duck-size horses or one horse-size duck?

More than any other episode, Common Interest really hammers home how BOLD Code Lyoko was willing to be. Even after 13 years we're still stunned that we saw Aelita almost succumb to heart failure three times in one day, or Jeremie handling raw uranium as he struggled to keep the supercomputer alive, or XANA facing off against a military transport armed with very present and realistic guns. Still not sure how that one got on Cartoon Network in the days when cops shot laser beams and heroes never said die.
Which makes it all the more disappointing when we go back to it after 13 years and discover all the weird pacing in the Lyoko bits, plus the glaring plot holes that we never noticed as kids. But darn it all if it isn't still good!
It's also been a long week for Mary, David, and Ben, which means that they're SUPER excited but also super distracted. But that means you'll get to hear Ben explain the history of Juggalos, David highlight the world's stealthiest Back to the Future reference, and Mary rant and rave about the EXTREMELY WRONG PLACEMENT of the Ultimate Impostor on the Dangan Ronpa 2 McDonald's Triangle.
Apologies for this episode's lateness, as well!

For the first time in possibly ever, the Super Nuclear group disagrees about the content of an episode! Is it the greatest thing ever, or just pretty darn great? Do the surprisingly off-model designs undercut the shipping possibilities? Come listen to your favorite trio of childish dingbats argue about cartoons for an hour and a half! The Homestuck references have never come at you faster.
Plus, an important public service announcement in the first few minutes of the episode!
NOTE: David's computer crashed at about the half-hour mark of this episode. We /think/ we were able to recover all the audio, but if any of Mary and Ben's conversations around that point don't make sense it's because David's bit may be missing.

Hey-yo! It's the Super Nuclear group, making up for our absence last week with an extra-long episode aimed directly at your eager faces. And what an episode it is!
We're finally at the 'Going back in time to win the lottery' storyline, which gives us a surprising amount of insight into several characters' personalities, including Ulrich, Yumi, and your personal favorite,* Yumi's dad.
We also dive into an interpretation of Yumi's family dynamic that may or may not freak Mary's bean. And also one about how Aelita is secretly Jesus. (Thanks for that last one, anonymous emailer!)

Well, they can't all be winners. Missing Link does have its peaks: there's a fascinating moment of complexity and defiance for Jeremie and Aelita, a mysteriously magnanimous Sissi, and drama in the house of Ishiyama. But the premise is ridiculous, the stakes are medium rare, and the entire plot hinges on whether or not a (presumably) white girl can be made to look like a Japanese girl for a class photo.
Note that episode of Code Lyoko carries a content warning for racist and transmisogynistic themes.

Good news, everyone - once again Principal Delmas has deigned to let these kids have fun! This episode is a triumph in a lot of ways - it gives Aelita a great connection to the human world, it gives William a chance to not be attached to Yumi's hip all the time, and it serves up That Good Drama as Jeremie fails to comprehend that Aelita can have interests and a social life not connected to him. The Lyoko action does kinda create a dip in the back half, but we do forgive things like that.
Tune in for only the finest goofs about Jim undergoing mitosis, naked confusion about publicly announced exam results, and, naturally, farts.

Hello, my friends! As we said in the last episode description, Patreon has recently announced its plans to increase its donor fees by 2.9 percent +35 cents per pledge. We don't want our donors to pay this ridiculous extra cost, and I (Mary, typing this) am pretty peeved that it will especially burden lower-income creators and donors and driving them away from a service they once depended on for their livelihoods.
In light of this news, and until Patreon responds to the MASSIVE negative feedback it's received, our continued use of Patreon is uncertain. There is a variety of other services we can move to, but we haven't had the chance to conference on this yet. In the meantime, though, we're going to slip y'all a bonus and release this week's bonus content on the main feed!
Note that this episode was recorded before the announcement, AND that it is explicit-rated! Swears on swears on swears!
===
We watched Saint Valentine's Day before we recorded our episode about it, and recorded our live commentary! This can be listened to on its own or in synchronicity with Saint Valentine's Day (We watched the Youtube version.) Just hit play when we say go! (If you listen on your own there'll be lots of dead air. Just a heads up.) Note that we pause in the middle at one point because David fell outta sync. Questions? Comments? It's been a long couple of weeks, but the band is finally back together! (Us, we mean. Mary, Ben, and David, not the Foxtrot Fanatics. We apologize for the immense disappointment you are currently experiencing.)
In this episode, it's Valentine's Day (the day all lovers celebrate), and because we love you all so much, we're celebrating with ninety minutes of relentless Odd/Aelita shipping AND a haphazard attempt to shoehorn Code Lyoko into the Marvel universe! And also, for the first time ever, we're introducing a brand-new lovable holiday mascot*!
There's an actual episode of Code Lyoko in here, too - and it's lousy with Dat Boi. Remember him? Here he come again.
*Actual loveability levels may vary.
=====
NOTE: This episode was recorded before Patreon's recent announcement about its decision to increase donor fees by 2.9%+35 cents per donation (ie, a lot). Our continued use of Patreon is currently uncertain. We will have a solution in place before the fees are slated to go into effect.
In the meantime, in lieu of bonus content on Patreon this week, keep an eye on the main feed tomorrow!

Unfortunately, it is David who could not be with us this week, as he was very ill and had lost his voice. But he's with us in spirit (and episode ratings) and Mary and Ben are here to bring you the biggest plot bombshells of 2005. No seriously - this blew our minds then and it blew our minds and it's great and we hope you all love it as much as we do!
Come for the mysterious visions and XANA-fied possessions and words of Jim wisdom, and stay to hear Mike scratching on things he shouldn't be scratching on! (That's right. I am SHAMING you, cat, live on the Internet.)

Sorry this one's up so late, folks! We recorded it a bit late in the week, and as you will see, it was a bit more edit-intensive than the usual garden-variety Code Lyoko Retrospective!
This week, we've hopped back into the Recreation Pod to gush about Code Lyoko ephemera! Unfortunately Ben was not able to join us, BUT Mary and David are gonna give you the scoop (a super scoop) on the real, actual Subdigitals CD, which in French is one of the series' lost gems and in English is... it's an album of music, that's for sure.
Mary also takes a quick dip into L'Interface Fictionelle du Supercalculateur de Code Lyoko, aka IFSCL, to see what's up with the fan-made Code Lyoko supercomputer simulator! Verdict: It's the Code Lyoko video game we all deserve and everyone should play it. Expect more updates as time goes on (or perhaps some streams...?)
We also read a hilarious Code Lyoko fanfic about Burger King, and share some exciting news about Season 4's scripts! (If that wasn't enough, you also get to learn about Mary's mysterious past with songs about toast.)

(NOTE: I have just learned that I have misattributed Break Away/S'Envoler for the past 33 episodes. I will make corrections best I can!)
Season two keeps the party going by addressing many an internet snarkster's biggest question about the show: why can't these giant-headed freaks instantly resolve every plot point by abusing their magical time machine? Another question answered: how would Odd and Ulrich sound spouting family-friendly mid-2000s misogyny?
Anyway, this is the show's Groundhog Day episode, and to celebrate, we'll be recycling all our old jokes. Hah! Just kidding! We do that in every episode.
Not recycled: spider evaluations, bodybuilder Aelita, and sucking your brains out through a bendy straw.

It's The Trap all over again as Mary, Ben, and David find themselves blown away by an episode all three of them remembered as ho-hum.
Marvel at the spontaneous appearance of Yumi's little brother, Hiroki (that's right - there is another Boi that Here Come)! Chuckle knowingly at the first instance of Jim's beloved* catchphrase!
And delight as our conversation inevitably turns to Jospeh Pujol (if you don't know who that is, don't look him up; it'll spoil the surprise) and ever more mid-2000s memes you thought you'd never see again.

AT LAST, SEASON 2 IS UPON US!
We're so excited to bring this to you AND so excited to talk about all the new stuff that this episode introduces. New intros and outros! Vehicles on Lyoko! Aelita (Stones) as a full-time student! New monsters! Scary wolf visions! A bearded man with opaque glasses playing childrens' tunes on a hallucination-piano! Sweet flips on Lyoko!
And of course DAT BOI, William Dunbar! Although you could view this entire episode as the Abstract Concept of Dat Boi, given how much here come. (Anyway, William's a creep and we dissect this thoroughly.)
We're also excited because this is another episode where two of us are in the same room! Mary and Ben, to be exact! Featuring special guest hosts Mike, who sat in a chair nearby sleeping the entire time, and Ike, who was under the bed, terrified of us. (They are both cats.)

The jury's still out on whether this is the best episode of the series, but boy is it a rich vein what we tap here. It's a killer premise, a killer execution, and an amazing (and unfortunately unique) look into the mind and motivations of a villain who almost never gives up those secrets. It's bold. It's brash. It certainly does NOT belong in the trash!
AND NOT ONLY THAT, but we have done it. We have made up for our past transgressions and crammed MANY, SO MANY Spongebob, Homestuck, and even Homestar references into this one. You will be FLOORED at the sheer EXTENT of our pop culture savvy and also how absolutely ADORABLE we all are. (We would totally be talking about Hiveswap except we recorded this a week ago. WATCH THIS SPACE.)
Also Mary forgot to switch Audacity to pick up her mic so her audio quality is not the best again. Sorry!

Here it is, guys: our first ever crossover episode! The hosts of Going Digital, a Digimon recap podcast, join us for double the digital cartoon nonsense. Would Ty and his pals make good Lyoko Warriors? Could Ulrich beat up a Charmandler (that's a Digimon, right)? These, and many other exciting questions, will not be addressed in the slightest.
Join Sporky, Garrett, and Davide - as well as the usual gang of jokers: Mary, Ben, and David (no e) - as we talk crap about one of the lamest episodes of Code Lyoko so far. Possibly ever. Yay!
It's a cavalcade of ambiguous plotting, recycled animation, phoned-in voice acting, and for the first time ever, racism as the show introduces a new black character and immediately has her commit a crime. (Hey, the world wasn't always the post-racial utopia we live in today.)

Yoo hoo, it's us!
Here it is, folks. The Big One. The Smooch That Never Was. The moment you've all been waiting for and continue to wait for as you silently curse Aelita for cutting it off.
Join Mary, David, and Ben as they navigate the wild and wacky waters of time travel fatigue and the sweet sauce of heavy handed teen drama, distilled here into its purest, reddest form. And also talk about the usual nonsense like monkey chauffeurs and edit wars with the X-Files fandom.

Nobody knows where the Crotch Thrust Kid came from. Some say we never will. But when there's a soccer game that needs cheering, or a purple shirt that needs wearing, he'll be there, ready to move.
We, too, are ready to go, as we've finally reached the point in the show when the episodes are reliably good (at least until Cartoon Network starts calling the shots, but we'll get there when we get there). In addition to pelvic thrusts, this RTTP episode features amputated toes, Sass Queen Aelita, and 200% more cats. We also make a couple of important announcements!

Welcome back to the Rec Room! Every ten episodes, we take a break from recapping the show to talk turkey about the fandom/culture around it (as you would know if you'd been paying attention. This'll be on the quiz).
In this episode, we review two Code Lyoko YouTube gems: the infamous (though possibly to nobody but us) Movie Quote Dub and the review by renowned cringelord Pan Pizza. We're also addressing one of our listeners' questions: if we could reboot the show, what would we do differently?
Also featured: awkwardly trying to remember things from Xiaolin Showdown, Ben plugging yet another adorable fanfic, and finding ways to make the show gayer than it ever was.

We're sorry to disappoint you guys, but in this episode we do not, in fact, make a SpongeBob reference. (We make Fairly Oddparents and Teenage Robot references instead.) Oh, and speaking of robots, that's what this week's Lyoko is about! And for your humble hosts, it's probably the most divisive episode so far...

Ooh la la! Things get hot and heavy in this week's episode, as Jeremie and Aelita have the steamiest encounter the TV-Y7-FV rating allows! (It involves floating in the abstract vacuum of the digital void and touching fingers and stuff.)
Join us yet again as we serenade your ear holes with 100% in-series color commentary on enemas. We also fawn over aquatic sloths (they were real; look them up), and completely lose our heads over Ulrich and Sissi's 'down payment.'

(Pssst, did we do it? Did we relate to the teens? Do we need more k's and z's?)

NOTE: There will be no new episode this Friday, as we are all taking a bit of a break. Tune in the Friday after for Killer Music!
If your longtime crush had suddenly lost his memory and you were responsible for his care, what would YOU think is the right thing to do? If your answer is "take this awesome opportunity to make him mine", then congratulations, you've followed Sissi's line of logic.
Join Mary, David and Ben as we try to make sense of this show's again tenuous grip on realistic science - and have a bit of fun along the way. Do you want to see a bunch of shrunken-down Warriors riding Kiwi to victory? We do, and so should you.

The Super Nuclear team is proud to introduce their very first, very special guest: yet another person you've never heard of! Join Mary, Ben, David, and for the first time ever, Shawn (a long-time friend of the show and relative Code Lyoko novice) as they discuss pink French toilet paper, wonder whether XANA vapes, and make Simpsons references that were old when Code Lyoko was new. Our spirits are high and (judging by our featured episode's animation) the budget is low, so go ahead and give us a listen (and maybe throw a couple bucks our way)!
(Also featuring silent special guest Teddy, a dog who was just trying to get some sleep.)

In this episode, Mrs. Hertz gets high and gives her students dangerous misinformation, so you know you're in for a good time! (That, itself, is dangerous misinformation.) The teen drama descends into cringe-inducing camp, and Ben descends into teen drama as the Odd/Aelita issue rides again.

Today's episode is The Trap, and though your humble hosts had quite frankly forgotten it even existed, it's left us feeling quite emotional!
Join us as David waxes nostalgic about his first crush (she's a triceratops), Ben shamelessly plugs Echoes of Echoes: Finding William Dunbar some more, and Mary makes Admiral Ackbar jokes so you don't have to. Also, we reveal the latest clue in the mystery of Kevin, and ask YOU to send us your fanart!

In this episode, Xana launches his most vague attack yet, many of the show's most famous plot devices make their second-ever appearance, and... Well, the title says it all. Also featured: your hosts making ridiculous trumpet noises, a hilarious voice acting snafu, and a delightful anecdote about the time David out-FN@F'd a bunch of fifth graders.

In this episode, the Lyoko Warriors learn what Ben (and superstar actor Nicolas Cage) have known all along: bees are bad news. We'd torch the whole lot of 'em, if they weren't a crucial part of the ecosystem on which we all depend. Crafty beasts.
Also featured: weird tangents about clowns and Sonic the Hedgehog. But we assume you all know what you're getting into by now.
Apologies for the sound quality in this episode! Both Ben and Mary need to be more disciplined about turning their external microphones on. Ben, specifically, in this instance.

As we all know, the Parisian sewers are full of rats. But watch out! When XANA takes the wheel, these rats would much sooner eat our animated friends alive than yank on their hair and turn them into world-class chefs. Do various scenes of Yumi being a badass (and at least one awkward yuri tease) make up for this episode's oodles of scripting problems? Tune in to find out!

Welcome to the Rec Room, where the points are made up, the rules don't matter, and everybody gets drunk and kisses each other. There's a new student at Kadic, and one of the Warriors is head-over-heels for her! Amazingly, she's NOT an American exchange student. That's right, it's time to get to know Taelia, aka the face that launched a thousand theories!
Join us yet again as we discuss one of the most notorious episodes of season one! Also featured: Jim/Kiwi fanfics, the possibility that at least one of the Warriors is a millionaire, and the kind of secondhand cringe that would make Pan Pizza blush. Nerdboys, make yourselves at home.

You guys may not remember this, but once upon a time, having your cell phone taken away seemed like perfectly legitimate grounds for a student protest. Meanwhile, Pick on Yumi Week reaches its peak as XANA tries to nuke her from space.

Is this Code Lyoko's first real clunker? Mary and Ben say yes, David says maybe. Join us as we meet famed American film director James Finson (we know he's American because he's fat) and discuss Freudian interpretations of slimy alien drool. Oh, and there's also some more nonsense about Bruce Willis.
Please note that Return to the Past no longer has a "Clean" rating. Still gonna bleep out swears though. It's like a middle ground.

In this episode, XANA completely blindsides the entire Lyoko Gang by attempting to impersonate a human being and doing remarkably poor work of it, despite completely fooling the group up until the very last moment. But then, why does he drive an emotional wedge in the group in the first place, when he could do so many more destructive things? Is XANA a cold and calculating being, always trying new plans when the old ones don't work, or is he angry and vengeful, forever trying to hurt the Warriors? Or is he just a dumb computer program? The answer unfortunately is that it's really inconsistent and we just don't know.
Anyway, here's Image Problem, the episode where a Yumi clone tries to get her mack on with Jeremie and also some other stuff happens! (And it's the first writing credit for Mary's personal hero for this series, Bruno Regeste.) At long last, the first truly great episode of Code Lyoko arrives! (Unfortunately, this episode of RTTP is no less terrible than the rest.) THRILL as Jeremie and Aelita exchange G-rated double entendres! GAPE as David cracks up Ben and Mary with jokes that would get groans in a kindergarten classroom! BEHOLD as we barrel down weird tangents about juggalos!
Caution: contains awkward references to the capital-P Problematic late seventies sitcom Diff'rent Strokes.

Apologies for the less-than-great audio from Mary and David in this episode, but we were recording in THE SAME ROOM which was a great arrangement for all parties concerned.
Log Book - an episode that David rightfully remembered as great and Mary and Ben were taken to task on. On today's show we tackle the big questions: How much character development can one show fit into a Speed homage? What the heck were the ONE pair of street names we had to remember for our Americanization goof? What does Ben REALLY think of Odd/Aelita? How do electric cars work?

In this episode, Ulrich, Jim, and Sissi are trapped in a closet as a toxic fog spreads rapidly throughout the school. Coincidentally, a fog also spreads rapidly through Mary, Ben, and David's skulls as they try to think of something, anything, remarkable to say about this utterly unremarkable Code Lyoko episode.
