Five Ways to Choose the Right Speaker Ask for video footage. Always ask to see some clips of your speaker in action, before you sign on a dotted line. Don’t worry—any reputable and experienced speaker will have some footage they can pass along. If your speaker seems hesitant to share video clips—well, that tells you everything you need to know right there.
Ask about credentials. There is such a thing as a certified public speaker, and inquiring about different accreditations and professional affiliations can give you some sense of the speaker’s bona fides.
Ask for referrals. You might also inquire as to where the speaker has worked before, and call some past clients to see if they are willing to leave a positive review. Again, a speaker who is hesitant to list past clients is likely not someone you want to do business with.
Ask for thought leadership. Most speakers are also publishers, and checking out your speaker’s blog posts and e-books is a good way to feel out how well he or she knows the industry.
Ask your gut. Your intuition is not something you want to ignore. You need a speaker you’ll feel good about working with—and if your gut tells you that a particular speaker just isn’t the one, that’s reason enough to continue the search.
What’s the most crucial factor in determining the ultimate failure or success of your next conference or seminar? It’s not the venue and it’s not even the food, though both of those things certainly matter. No, what really makes or breaks it, is the choice you make for the conference speaker.
Criteria for Choosing the Best Conference Speaker What’s the most important criteria you want for your annual conference ? It’s not a trick question. Though the venue and the food are both critically important considerations, it’s the actual content that people are going to come for, and it’s the content that people will remember. And the key to delivering strong content, of course, is enlisting the best possible conference speaker.
If you’re an event planner, that means really doing your homework, and choosing a conference speaker wisely. As you evaluate potential speakers, consider some of the following criteria, strategies, secrets, and tips—all of which will guide you to make the best decision possible, and to end up with a conference that participants will speak highly of.
Seek a Conference Speaker Who Will Stick Around. Make sure your speaker is willing to stay after the presentation and talk with people one-on-one, take questions, or just be present. You don’t want someone who’s just going to speak, then make a mad dash for the door. Be cautious about speakers who want to sell stuff.
It’s fine for a speaker to want a table to sell his or her book, but be careful in hiring anyone who seems like they only care about promoting their wares. That’s usually a bad sign.
Go with a speaker who seems interested in your organization, your mission, and your goals. As you interview potential speakers, listen for those who also seem like they’re interviewing you—because those are the ones who are really going to be invested in your event.
Be strategic in picking your conference speaker—and land on someone who will really provide optimal value to your group!
Looking for a Speaker? As a footnote, let me affirm that I’m more than willing to chat with you about my own experience and credentials; get in touch with me about your next conference or event!
How transformational leaders delegate effectively one of the most difficult things that employees and employers have to do every day. Delegate tasks. If you are a control freak like me you don't like to delegate. You'd rather get it done yourself. But the problem is it keeps us non-productive. We can't accomplish things as quickly as we want. So I developed a technique called check back.
Have you ever worked with an employee who isn’t a team player? That’s todays topic on the Solutions Oriented leader. So You’re committed to building a work environment of collaboration and teamwork—a work environment in which all your employees work together to reach common goals. The problem is, you have one employee who simply doesn’t share your team mindset. That’s where it may fall to you to step up and show some leadership—proactively working to bring that employee into the fold and instill in him or her the central fact that, in your business, teamwork is non-negotiable.
In order to assess your organizational culture to make changes its important to develop questions that will point you in the right direction and I know these ten questions for assessing your organizational culture will put you on the right path. So What is Organisational Culture? The way I explain organizational culture is that it’s a summary of how people at your business interact with each other… and, how they interact with clients and customers.
Solutions Oriented Leadership is a key focus for managers and entreprenuers around the globe. Solutions oriented leadership improves retention and helps your organization to attract top talent globally. Discover how solutions oriented leadership can help your organization in this podcast.
Great companies focus on health and wellnness. It enhances employee retention and aid in the recruitment and hiring of new team members.
When your team prioritizes personal health and wellness, it’s a win for everyone. They enjoy a higher quality of life, while the company itself benefits from higher productivity, lower absenteeism, and improved morale.
But while some employees will be totally on board with physical fitness efforts, others may need a little coaxing. Part of your job is to ensure that wellness is built into your company culture.
Here are 6 Ways that great companies Incorporate Health and Wellness into their culture
1: Only offer healthy snack options. You may have some employees who bristle if you remove candy bars from the break room or change up the vending machine selections. Because in the long run, it’s just very hard to prioritize health when there is junk food all around.
2: Initiate some physical activity. This can be as low-key as you want it to be. Maybe you arrange for on-site yoga instruction during the lunch hour. Maybe you have a formal program where anyone who wants to join can go for a walk around the building at a set time each morning. Or maybe you just want to casually get up and stroll around yourself, leading your team by example.
3: Allow some sleeping. Yes, really: Accommodating those who want to sneak off for a power nap can actually be a valuable way to let employees recharge their batteries and gear up for a stretch of fresh productivity.
4: Educate. Bring in some guest speakers who can talk to your employees about physical fitness, and to offer some practical steps for dealing with stress in a healthy and constructive way.
5: Hold walking meetings. One more approach that I personally like: Instead of meeting around the conference table, hold brainstorming sessions outside. Get everyone up and moving around a little bit. Not only does this promote fitness, but it can generate some stronger ideas, too!
6: Be flexible. If you have employees who want to take some time to work out each day, be as lenient as you can. Because as long as they still get their work done, letting them have time for exercise can be a powerful way to show how serious you are about wellness.
If you want to increase productivity and create a happy work enviornment focusing on health and wellness is a great place to start!
How do we maintain employee experience when leadership changes More importantly how does that employee experience effect the company.that's what I would like to discuss with you today.
Where does employee experience come from? That’s a more complicated question than you might think. My personal belief is that employee experience emanates largely from the people on your team—from their shared values and objectives.
With that said, I also think team leaders play a significant role in shaping and codifying that culture.
So what happens when your team leader leaves? Can the remaining employees keep that spark alive? I believe that they can—and here are some suggestions for how.
Here are five ways we can maintain the employee experience and even make it better!
#1 Look back to your statements of purpose. One thing the team can do together is to use the departure of a leader as an excuse to review their core values. Do you have a mission statement? A written document that outlines your values? Take some time to remind yourself of what those documents say.
#2 Focus on communication. If you’re in a position of leadership or management, communicate with the people who report to you. Remind them of your company’s values and commit to doubling down on them even during a season of change.
#3 Talk about anxieties. You and your team members may have some concerns about the long-term fate of your culture. Talk through those anxieties and see if you can come up with some practical ways to safeguard your shared values. It all comes back to communication!
#4 Connect with your customers. Sometimes, talking with your customers and clients is a good way to remind yourself of what your values are—and of why you committed to them in the first place!
#5 Remember your role in shaping culture. Finally, just remind yourself that employee experience doesn’t emanate from any one leader; you and your team members create the experience together through your everyday decisions and priorities.
The power to preserve your positive employee experience and culture ultimately lies with you!
Does your companies culture keep you up at night? There’s a reason why company culture has become such a big focus for companies both large and small. Studies show, time and time again, that culture can make or break performance, team cohesion, employee retention, and recruitment.
Is it Time to Rethink Your Company Culture? Maybe even time to transform your company culture? If you’re thinking about making a proactive move to enhance your company culture, that’s certainly not a bad idea—but wait. You have to be strategic, and to lay a foundation for long-lasting cultural change.
It's time to get uncomfortable that's what my mentor Dr Danny Drubin would say to me when I was not growing or strecthing to build myself and my business. Change and growth is uncomfortable, but once we stretch and grow there no turning back!
Quite often, if we look close enough the telltale subtle signs of a cultural weakness are there for everyone to see. Sometimes, when your company culture is in jeopardy, it’s pretty obvious.
Maybe you have employees leaving by droves. Or maybe you have a morale problem that is palpable. But in other instances, the signs of trouble may be more subtle. You may not even recognize them until it’s too late.
Let me share with you a few examples How a Weak Company Culture Will Cause You Problems

Normally a negative word, Hill distinguishes failure from temporary defeat, and temporary defeat can at times be a blessing in disguise.
In he laws of success lesson 13 talks about the amazing success you can have through cooperation. The outstanding achievements in business, industry, finance, and technology are all based upon the principle of cooperative effort. Every day we hear about mergers and acquisitions of companies or alliances that are formed based upon cooperation. Almost every great achievement in the world has been made with cooperative effort.
In his twelfth lesson in Law of Success, Napoleon Hill discusses the importance of concentration in achieving great success. The lesson defines concentration as “the act of focusing the mind on a given desire until ways and means for its realization have been worked out and successfully put into operation.”

The Solutions Oriented Leader with the ninth lesson of the laws of success the Alex project The Habit of Doing More Than Paid for Napoleon Hill explores another topic that is vital to achieving success in the ninth lesson of this book, titled “The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For.” Essentially self-explanatory, this rare characteristic often results in countless opportunities for a person and will add much to one’s credibility and reputation.
The eighth lesson in Napoleon Hill’s reading course discusses self-control, and its great importance to achieving success. A lack of self-control resembles the unharnessed lightning of an electrical storm – it may strike anywhere; it may destroy life and property.
In the seventh lesson in Law of Success, Napoleon Hill discusses the great importance of “enthusiasm”, and how integrating enthusiasm into your life will ultimately lead to success.
In The sixth lesson Napoleon Hill discusses the need for imagination. Hill emphasizes this as being one of the most important of the lessons for success. imagination is the one power that no person can take away from you

Why employees leave and how to keep them has always been a question for human resources. As an executive leadership coach I get asked this question often.
On the one hand, the equation is pretty simple: Employees like to be at a company where they feel important and valued. They want to feel like they are able to use their talents and their time effectively, to really make an impact; and they like to feel like that effort is noticed and appreciated.
It takes time to be an effective leader in today's business world. In this episode International Leadership Expert, Dr. Rick Goodman will share with you how to start building your own team of solutions - oriented leaders who can thrive in any business environment.
I have been asked by leaders managers and supervisors over the last 30 years is employee feedback necessary and Important.
Today I would like to share with you 5 Key Strategies for Giving Employee Feedback.
The timing of your feedback is very important, so you want to take this into consideration.
Setting date for regular scheduled feedback is important for the continual improvement of your employee.
If your employee is not in a good mindset or if you are not in a good mindset, waiting till the mood is neutral will provide a more conducive environment to reinforce or redirect employees using constructive feedback
Your preparation for each employee should be thorough before you provide them with feedback.
The way you approach each team member will certainly be different according to the feedback that you deliver.
When you are prepared your team members will notice by the amount of information you provide them regarding their work.
This helps the feedback to be meaningful for the employee’s continuous improvement.
3.Provide Specific Examples for Improvement
In order for any feedback to be effective you must present the employee with specific examples on what needs to be improved as well as examples of what is going right.
This will help them to focus on their strengths repeating the tasks they are doing well, while working on their weaknesses.
In the world we live in today transparency is crucial in producing improvements and creating a happy work environment.
The feedback that you provide should be honest and genuine. You want to make the employees feel comfortable receiving feedback from you.
Your actions will speak louder than your words, so remember be yourself, your goal is to coach the team member to reach their highest potential!
In order for feedback to be effective you must make it actionable so that the employee knows exactly what they need to do to improve and what steps they need to take first.
The goal is to avoid personal criticism on things that your employees can't change.
Your feedback should always be motivational, positive and with a focus on what your employees can do to reach their goals and objectives.
As you can see giving your employees feedback is crucial to building a culture of positivity.
Your employees will love to come to work focused on constant improvement in a happier work environment.
Those are some of my guidelines for effectively coaching and critiquing employees.

Today on the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast we have a conversation with career coach expert Paul Silitsky. Paul built the largest technology and sales recruiting firm in the country, winning “best places to work” 12 times. From entry level to top executives, he placed thousands of candidates in some of the country’s most well known companies.
I have been asked by leaders managers and supervisors over the last 30 years is employee feedback necessary and important?
Giving employee feedback is important for a number of reasons that will be discussed in this video podcast.
Engaging teams and leaders of those highly engaged teams understand that so much of life comes down to the habits and discipline of the team members.
Highly engaged teams have systems and rituals they use to give them great results and you team can have the same results as well.
If you want your team to be more engaged—well, there are some habits to form for that, too. I recommend these five, in particular:
Take some time to plan your approach before the meeting. Want to engage a new client, rather than bore him to death? Plan your pitch in advance.
Highly Engaged Teams Morning Rituals
One of my favorite leadership lessons comes from Stephen Covey's book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The Habit is: “Begin with the End in Mind”.
Many of the executives that I coach implement a morning ritual of positive affirmations while reviewing their goals. They see themselves achieving these goals as if the task has already been accomplished.
They understand what most champions in sports and business have come to understand when they say.
“When They Believe It, They Will See It!”
Whenever I get to the office or even start my day virtually, I like to do a walkabout. There was a company in Argentina called Neutrona Networks International, where I was the executive coach for the founders and their management team.
I would fly to Buenos Aires three times a year to work with the team and each morning when I arrived at the office, I did my walkabout. I went and greeted each team member in the company to exchange pleasantries and asked him if there was anything, they needed to do their job better.
I also asked them about their families and how they were doing. If you want to be an engaging leader it's important to also understand this principle.
“People do Business with People Who They Like Who are Like Them!”
In other words, if your team truly like you and you are engaging and sincere, chances are they will work even harder to help reach the organizations and your goals.
One of my favorite morning rituals and I believe to be one of the most important for any organization is the morning huddle. It's important to understand the philosophy behind the huddle.
The goal is to have everyone on the team communicating with the leader what they will be working on for the week.
It's also an opportunity for the leader to ask team members if they need any support to achieve their goals and objectives for the week. It's important to note that the morning huddle is not a meeting, in fact my team leader in Argentina contacted me and said the huddles were lasting too long.
Our solution was to call it a coffee huddle, when the coffee is done the huddle is over! Think of a huddle in the National Football League, the quarterback calls the plays instructs the team what to do and says break and they come out of the huddle.
I recommend that you have the huddle on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This way you could start the week off communicating, check in with the team halfway through the week and on Friday review what had been accomplished and set the goals for Monday.
I believe by implementing these morning rituals in addition to the five habits, you'll be well on your way to becoming a more effective and engaging leader.
It takes time and diligence to be an engaging leader—and it takes the formation of good, healthy habits. Do you have any tips to add to this list on how you engage with your team or with your customers?
As a keynote speaker I am constantly asked by audience members why leaders use executive coaching and should they hire a coach.
Today I would like to share with you 6 benefits of executive coaching so you can make that decision for yourself and even the team you lead.
How do balance work and Life while working remotely that's a question I get asked all of the time by my clients and its today's topic on The Solutions Oriented Leader podcast

Delivering a presentation is essential to the success of your organization that’s why it’s critical that you have the latest strategies for successful virtual presentations.
I have been asked recently by C-Suite executives and associations about delivering successful virtual presentations and exactly what makes a presentation engaging and productive for the attendees.
Having delivered hundreds of presentations virtually in the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia I have discovered three key elements that are the cornerstones of a successful virtual meeting.
What Are the Components of a Successful Virtual Presentation?
The three key components for running a successful virtual presentation are real-time actionable content, audience interaction and stable reliable virtual technology. Let's Take a look at each one of these elements and see how they contribute to a successful virtual presentation.
Content is King and you must have good content in addition to having a strategies for successful virtual presentations. Solutions oriented leaders need real time actionable information to make accurate decisions in an ever-changing global work environment.
Delivering accurate real time information is one component of a successful virtual presentation. The other component is to make sure that your attendees receive actionable takeaways during the meeting.
It has been proven that when actionable takeaways are included in a training program or keynote speech, it increases the attendee's attention span and they become highly engaged!
Audience interaction needs to be one of the cornerstones of your strategies for successful virtual presentations. When conducting a virtual presentation, it is imperative that the delivery is highly visual.
There are different ways that you can increase interactivity in your meetings. You can incorporate polling, hand raising, Q&A, and other interactivity in the program to enhance the experience and deliver a great ROI!
When I'm delivering a virtual program whether it's a training session or a keynote speech, I always give the attendees information on how they can contact me after the event to answer any questions.
This way the lessons and skills learned by the attendees in the program will have a better chance of sticking and being implemented at work.
Successful virtual meetings rely on technology. This means the platform that you're using must work and you also need to have a backup plan in case things go wrong. And they will!
Whether you're using Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, or a proprietary program things can still go wrong, and you must master the technology.
Experienced and professional speakers generally have a tech team to create landing pages, registrations, and email reminders to enhance the attendee experience.
Also, it's important that the quality of your program stands the test of time. This means audio quality, lighting, background setting and overall ease of presentation are critical.
Many companies and organizations are also requesting prerecorded programs to assure the successful delivery of their program while avoiding possible technology glitches.
These are just a few major components that you should focus on to assure that your next virtual presentation is a huge success!

This weekend I discovered how to find the best lobster roll in America fifty yards from my hotel. I would like to share my experience with you and why I believe out of the hundreds of lobster rolls I've had in my life around the Unites States this was by far the best!
I decided this January to finally sell my house and make some major life changes. I had built it over 18 years ago and I wanted to let another family enjoy “The Goodman Groves”. Little did I know that my house would sell in three days in the middle of a global pandemic and I would have to relocate immediately.
This did not leave me with much time to find my new dream location on the water. My good friend and speaker buddy Bruce Turkel suggested I give myself a chance to breathe before making a kneejerk decision, because now I was literally homeless!
My whole life I have focused on solutions, not problems because anybody can point out a problem and sometimes when you're in the middle of it you can't see the solutions.
I'm glad I listened to my buddy Bruce and decided to breathe and look for a short-term fix to achieve my long-term goals. Driving down Interstate 95 I decided to get off on Commercial Blvd and head towards the beach. When my car crossed over the intercoastal bridge something weird and special happened.
I could literally feel the stress leaving my body. In a split second I knew I was in the right place. As I continued driving East towards the beach I looked forward and saw a sign at an archway entrance. It was the last stop sign where I was about to make a left before arriving at the beach.
The sign above the archway entrance to the beach said.
Relax ... you're here
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
This was the perfect place to spend a time out. To think, regroup and design my plan to move forward. Rarely have we had an opportunity in our lives for a time out!
Selling my house in the middle of a pandemic when much of life as we knew it was put on hold. This was a blessing! In fact, I found the most perfect location fifty yards from the ocean at an amazing hotel called The El Mar Boutique Hotel, where I had been the only tenant for a month.
How could this get any better? Until it did! This past Saturday I was feeling a little bit down, maybe even sorry for myself because I was not making progress as rapidly as I would have liked on several projects. This is a problem for many high achievers.
When I feel this way, I know I'm going to be dealing with one of my major challenges in life ... Stress eating! Oh yeah, “I eat a lot of stress along with pizza pies” as the late comedian John Candy would say.
Just before I left my hotel, I was having a conversation on the phone with a friend of mine Silvia who is a fashion designer and of owner of Olivia Preckel Fashions.
She was having a trunk show on Nantucket island and told me she was going to have a couple of days free before returning home.
I suggested that while she was there, she get a lobster roll, because they have some of the best ones in the United States based on my travel experiences. My goal today was to learn how to find the best lobster roll in America.
Off I went walking from my new place to the downtown area which was packed on this beautiful Saturday at the beach. As I walked past multiple restaurants that I pass every day I could not decide. What was I going to stuff into my face to make me feel better?
Note to anyone reading this, watching On YouTube, or listening to the podcast; the gratification is instant, but the consequences of overeating are long term.
After walking by what seemed to be 20 restaurants I headed directly to my favorite sign on the beach:
Relax ... you're here
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
Now you should know that just to the right of the sign is a long fishing pier heading out to the ocean. At the entrance to the pier is a small restaurant with outside tables overlooking the beach and a few tables that are inside - outside. Giving you just enough shade while allowing you the experience of sitting on the beach.
The name of the restaurant is the Anglins Beach Cafe. Out front is a chalkboard sign and the first two items on the list are New England Clam Chowder and of course a Lobster Roll! That's it, I figured I must be getting some type of message from the universe and I looked for a seat.
The restaurant was doing a great job of social distancing with only three tables being used for the inside outside accommodations. I did not know what I was in for yet, however once I sat down the stress truly started to leave my body.
The waitress walked over with her mask on delivering the menus to my table. I made my decision the minute I saw the sign and ordered the lobster roll. As I looked out over the ocean and the beach with distress leaving my body, I reflected on the choices I had made to take a timeout, regroup, adapt, and move forward.
Sometimes, in fact most times in my experience I have found that I needed to slow down in order to move forward. This time in history would be no exception. As if the seafood heavens opened and the Angels started singing my waitress delivered the most beautiful lobster roll and plate I had ever seen.
When I took my first bite of this delicious roll, looking out over the ocean and reflecting on my decisions and choices I realized I was eating the best lobster roll in America! In fact I learned how to find the best lobster roll in America.
Still in deep reflection in the middle of this experience I knew there was a lesson to be learned about the best lobster roll in America. My lesson is that our experience is what we make of it! We are the captains of our ship, our lives, and our beliefs.
I hope the next time or the first time you have a lobster roll it's the best one in America wherever you are in the world because the choice and experience is up to you.
Keep making it happen!

Millions of people around the world has had to learn to work remotely since the pandemic has begun. Its more important than ever before that we learn how to remove some common remote working mistakes.
Virtual soft skills training is critical in today's world with the increased number of employees working from home. Many companies and organizations have had to adapt to the new normal and the uncertainty we face.
Businesses continue to move forward and the need for hiring new employees and onboarding them successfully is essential. To help meet the demands of an ever-changing workforce the need for virtual soft skills training and leadership coaching is critical to engage your team and move them forward in a positive direction.
Companies and organizations around the world have had to pivot especially when it comes to virtual meetings using technologies such as zoom, Skype and Microsoft Teams to stay connected since the outbreak of the corona virus.
Employees still need to be updated on the changing landscape and direction of their organization and its outreach to their customers.
Creating a successful virtual meeting takes planning
Creating a successful virtual meeting takes planning and is an art. Many different elements must be utilized to optimize the experience and create engagement for the employees.
I have identified 7 strategies for creating successful virtual meetings that when implemented your results will be much improved .
7 Strategies for Creating Successful Virtual Meetings
Organization is the cornerstone of creating a successful virtual meeting. By creating a detailed outline including exercises, polling and question and answers planned out in advance you will be able to keep the attendees engaged and on topic.
It is essential to have a guideline to ensure all the vital content is covered. Also, it's important to design companion material for employees to support the virtual training long after the meeting is over.
When planning your virtual meeting it's important to have a clear understanding of what the primary goals and objectives are for the attendees.
This will keep you focused on the material any interactivity and engagement necessary to achieve outstanding results!
If your team needs to learn specific skill sets during the virtual meeting, you can incorporate exercises, discussion topics, and real-world examples that can help them develop those skills.
It was one said that “luck is when preparation meets opportunity”. If you want the full participation and engagement of your team for the virtual meeting you must prepare. Make sure to constantly communicate the details of the meeting and the benefits of the attendees for showing up.
Since so many of us are operating remotely sending out reminders, emails an including the details in your company newsletter and message board will help to assure full participation.
Your virtual meeting should be easy to access, even for team members who are not tech savvy. Access and navigation should be simple and straightforward, and everyone should know how to log onto the system to attend the live event or webinar.
Another alternative is to record the virtual event and upload it to the company's website for future reference or for those who have missed the live event. In addition, some companies may prefer a recorded version to assure there are no technology glitches for their live meeting.
Creating a virtual meeting or event is always enhanced when polling, Q&A opportunities and interactivity of the attendees are included. Many times, using breakout rooms and pre-planned interactivity drives retention and assures a positive experience and results for the attendees.
Social media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn can be valuable tools in supporting collaboration and discussion before, during and after the event.
Entertaining questions from people who are on the platform or watching the live stream enhances the meeting and encourages and motivates the attendees to collaborate long after the event is over.
When delivering a virtual meeting it's easy to want to pack 25 pounds of information in a 5-pound bag. That's a mistake! Try to keep the sessions as short as possible and include only the information that is necessary.
It's important to still have fun to keep the attendees engaged while staying on topic.
I believe if you follow these seven strategies for creating successful virtual meetings you will find that your attendees are more engaged, motivated, and productive, even if they are operating remotely.

Hi, Dr. Rick Goodman here and it's Monday, it's time for some motivation and today I'd like to discuss you bouncing back. That's right, it's time for you to bounce back and get in the game again.
The other day I was in my backyard and in the good mangroves.
We've got a lot of coconut trees and those coconut trees were filled to the top.
In fact, one or two of them were bending over completely. So, we called up the person that comes over and climbs up the tree and he cut down those coconuts and let them down with a pulley.
And about two hours later, those coconut trees were standing completely tall and strong. They were completely erect when they were bent over before
Well, a lot of us get stressed out. We feel like we're being bent over we feel like we're going to snap and we're not going to make it happen. But you know what, you are just like that coconut tree you have that inner strength that you can bounce back also
Sometimes it's just relieving stress by going out and exercising or meditating or being quiet but understand that you were built to succeed.
You were built to win. Just like standing tall like those strong coconut trees in my backyard. You will bounce back; you will be tall you are very strong.
You've got to start focusing and putting your game plan together, focusing on the solutions. Anybody can point out the problem.
But it's only solutions-oriented leaders that stay focused on the solutions, remember when that horses in a race they put blinders on that horse, so it stays focused on the finish line.
My goal and my wish for you is that you stay focused on the finish line also that you stay strong like the coconut trees and today starts the beginning of your bounce back
Go out there. Make it happen. And let me know what you're doing to bounce back today is Dr. Rick Goodman from the solutions-oriented leader, saying, go out there and make it happen.

Dr. Rick Goodman International Leadership Expert, Author and Executive Coach interviews Leadership Expert and Keynote Speaker Scott Lesnick about the new normal and how to successfully navigate change in this new world we face since the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
Because of the COVID-19 outbreak many people around the world finds themselves working from home. This is the new normal and for many of us we need to find out how we could successfully navigate the change that is happening in our lives.
Transformational leadership expert and motivational keynote speaker Dr. Rick Goodman has a conversation with a fellow transformational leadership speaker Scott Lesnick who shares some of his strategies for navigating change.
5 keys for Successfully Navigating Change
Make sure to get enough sleep - During these stressful periods it's important for us to get a good night's sleep or even take some mini naps. There's nothing wrong with it and you must listen to your body in order to keep your mind fresh.
Get some exercise every day -You don't have to be an athlete in order to exercise all you need to do is walk for 20 to 30 minutes at a brisk pace to get your heart rate going and bring down stress. We need all the energy we can get in order to navigate change successfully during the new normal.
Make sure you're eating healthy and also treat yourself during a stressful time - it's important to eat healthy during stressful periods, however we also need to be realistic and give ourselves a treat every once in a while, In order to keep sane.
Get into a routine and plan your schedule - It's important to get into a routine when navigating change especially during stressful times. Make sure that you're giving yourself regular breaks and don't schedule every minute of every day. I would prefer 4 hours of focus time over 8 hours of wasted time.
Stay connected! - Social distancing does not mean disconnecting with others it's important to keep your connections and keep the conversation going especially when you're navigating change. We all need a team and a support structure for us to successfully navigate change during stressful times.
When you implement these five keys for successfully navigating change you will be reducing stress and, on the road, to achieving your goals and dreams. If there's any way that we can assist you in your journey connect with us at www.rickgoodman.com or give us a call at 888-267-6098 or send me an email to www.rickgoodman.com
The coronavirus Is affecting many people around the world. It's important as a leader for you to stay productive during the COVID19 outbreak and help your team to be productive also.
Here is a list of 7 strategies that leaders can use to remain productive during this stressful time.
7 Strategies for Leaders to Stay Productive Even When Stressed
It's important that we put our phones away in order to stay focused. Our phones have become a major distraction from what's truly important in life, relationships! So, hide your phone from yourself for a few hours or lock it away and see what you can accomplish.
Brainstorming ideas on a notepad is a great way to stay focused and visualize what you need to accomplish for a day. Many people are visual and if the idea is in front of them it will go into their mind and their subconscious will begin to go to work on solutions to accomplish their goals.
Staying productive during the coronavirus breakout can be a stressful experience. Leave some time in your schedule for relaxation and thought. it's a great time to work on your business as opposed to in your business.
Determine what you want to accomplish each day and make it no more than three tasks. Once you've accomplished those tasks focus on you.
If you're going to be more productive and fight through stress you're really going to need to have energy. Make sure to eat right and get enough sleep that your body is going to need to be more productive.
Many leaders tend to book back-to-back meetings which can be very stressful. It's important for a leader to give themselves a break in between meetings to review the information presented. By giving yourself time to reflect and review you are also giving yourself more time for innovation and better results!
I have worked with thousands of executives over the last 30 years and none of them gets everything on their to-do list done in a day. In fact, the executives that I have coached who focused on three major goals ended up accomplishing more than the executives with giant to-do lists.
When a leader learns to focus on the highest and best use of their talent, they are more productive and less stressed. Delegate work and projects to team members to develop their talents and your productivity will increase immediately.

The Best Ways to Improve Your Brand on Social Media
There are a number of ways to improve your personal brand on social media that can be effective. In this episode of The Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast I am going to share the best ways to improve your personal brand that I have used with amazing results!
Here are my best ways to improve your personal brand for you to use as a guide. I used these steps when I released my new book The Solutions Oriented Leader Your Comprehensive Guide to Achieve World Class Results
The Solutions Oriented Leader Strategy to Improving Your Personal Brand
If you are going to build your personal brand you have to change your thought process and put yourself out there especially when it comes to social media. If you are not engaging on a regular basis your brand will be invisible.
The purpose of being visible on social media is for you to demonstrate your superpowers across multiple platforms that can be seen and heard by a variety of audiences worldwide.
It’s important to know what you are great at where is your expertise its important to know because that is where your brand needs to focus. It's important to assess your strengths and weaknesses in addition to assessing which industry would benefit the most from your expertise.
Knowing the groups that you want to focus on is critical. It's impossible to reach your goals if they are not specific. The same goes for your personal brand. You can't build your brand effectively if you have not determined what groups you will focus on.
Research some of the top experts in groups you are focusing on. Look at the industry publications to see the types of articles they publish. This way you can start positioning material for yourself.
An editorial calendar will help you plan and map out your social media postings. Suffice to say, you need to be everywhere and, on every platform, where your target market consumes information.
Those platforms could be LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. The best platforms in my opinion are your own website, your own podcast and your own blog. People consume information in many different ways, and you need to be prepared to deliver in all of them.
Make sure to share and give away everything you know especially content in consumable bites. Our attention spans have gotten shorter over the years so if you can communicate in sound bites your message has a better chance of being retained by your target audience.
I have been asked by clients over the years what is the purpose of having an positioning statement? My response is simple. You have less than 30 seconds to make an impression on someone. They are judging you from the second you connect with them. If you want to succeed in promoting your brand you only have a few seconds to accomplish this.
We call it a positioning statement it explains your superpower in a concise and succinct manner within seconds.
Growing your personal network will help to boost your brand when you engage and share helpful information. It’s just as important to engage with others content as you do post your own. Communication is a two-way street.
You should never be afraid to ask for an introduction, you’re only risking a yes! I always say “if you don't A.S.K. you won't G.E.T.” What's the worst thing that can happen? If the person says no, you're in the same position you were a few seconds before. If they say yes you just went to the next level. I have found that people love to help others so why not just ask for help in making a connection.
You are your brand and your personal brand is not just online it follows you wherever you go. In today's highly engaged planet everyone is watching whether you see them or not. Your reputation is everything so its important to protect your brand!

How to Be More Productive When Working from Home
Many people around the world have had to learn to be more productive when working from home to stop the spreading of the coronavirus pandemic. In this episode of the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast I will give you five tips that you can implement to make you more productive when working from home.
Five tips to make you more productive when working at home
The first thing that you can do to make you more productive when working from home is to define a start and stop time along with the things that you need to accomplish each day. It's very important to devise a routine and stick to that routine the same way you would follow your schedule when you were in school. This will help you to separate your work time from your personal time especially if you're not used to working from a Home Office.
Make sure you do whatever it takes to have her a separate work environment so that you can focus on your goals and objectives. There are many distractions especially if your family is in the house when it's time for you to work. Explain to your family the importance of sticking to your routine in order to maintain normality as best as possible.
Be sure to make time for yourself it's best if you can keep your morning routine the way it was before you started working from home if possible. Make sure you take time to eat the right foods and exercise daily. Studies indicate that the more time you spend in a disciplined routine the more you will accomplish!
Make sure to keep all of your meetings and do them face to face with video chats if possible. There are many different applications that you can use including us, Skype, WhatsApp and go to meeting . You could use these video platforms to connect with new prospects, meet with your staff and work with your clients.
Make sure to set realistic goals especially based on new circumstances and make sure to reward yourself when you have accomplished these goals. It's important to maintain your focus including your goals and objectives when you're working from your home environment by placing them in front of you at all times. It’s also important to end your work day by preparing for the next day.

Your team is going to be watching every step you make it's no different than your children they do exactly what you do. You must set the example of true leadership. When I deliver a transformational leadership keynote speech, I use examples of leaders who are walking their talk because that’s what works!
Rule #2 acknowledge and recognize your team members strengths
As a solutions-oriented leader if you attempt to do all the work yourself you will never be successful. There are many people on your team that have strengths that you do not possess it's important to acknowledge their strengths and utilized them to benefit the team. This will have a positive effect empowering your team members and growing their leadership skills at the same time.
Rule #3 empower each member of your team to make decisions
if you want your team to grow their transformational leadership skills and become solutions-oriented leaders, they need to make decisions on their own. Of course, they're going to fail and make wrong decisions that's all part of the growing process. If you don't allow this to happen, you will stagnate the team and prevent the growth of their leadership skills.
Rule #4 people like responsibility
if you really want to retain your best employees and see them grow it's important to add additional responsibilities to their plate. This has an empowering effect on their leadership skills and growth potential as a transformational leader. It also shows them that there is a possibility of growth opportunities in their future.
Rule #5 trust is the key
when you help your team members to develop their leadership skills it's important that you place a large level of trust in what they're about to do. Understanding the importance of trust when you are developing your teams transformational leadership skills is not easy, however the benefits are enormous.
Rule #6 future pace your team to victory
Another way you could use transformation of leadership skills to grow your team's leadership skills is by future pacing them to victory! This simply means showing them what things will look like when they become transformational leaders by keeping them focused on the goals and objectives of the team.
Rule #7 push your team to be the best
As a transformational leadership keynote speaker and executive coach, I understand the importance of pushing your team to be the best. The best athletes and entrepreneurs in the world push their teams to achieve goals they never thought they could accomplish! The key is to understand when to push and went to hold back.
Rule #8 give respect
One of the hallmarks of transformational leaders is that they command the respect of their colleagues and peers. If you want to develop a whole team of transformational leaders who are making a difference you must give respect to get respect! Whenever I'm delivering a transformational leadership keynote speech the first people, I make sure to acknowledge are the audiovisual team who are in charge of the cameras and the audio. They are also in charge of my life when I'm working so I give them the ultimate respect as soon as I entered the building.
Rule #9 praise, visualization and affirmation
Everyone wants love appreciation and respect and if you want to become a solutions-oriented leader and develop your teams skills you must praise, visualize and affirm your message consistently. This can truly help motivate your team to achieve goals above their expectations.
Rule #10 don't feed into fear
Too many people fall into fear and I always say fear stands for (false evidence appearing real). Most of the things we worry about never happen! However, if we do focus on all of the worst things that could possibly happen, we will eventually attract that into our lives. That’s why it’s important to keep future pacing your team with a motivational message.
I believe if you implement these 10 rules for building your team's leadership skills your results will far exceed your expectations and you will have developed through your transformational leadership skills, an entire team of solutions-oriented leaders

Also, a personal brand can very easily be parlayed into thought leadership. When people in the business community learn what your superpower is, they’re going to start calling on you to use it. That can lead to amazing opportunities for your business.
Lastly, branding yourself can also make your employees more likely to buy into your initiatives and your ideas. That’s because they’ll feel like they have a clear sense of who you are and what drives you, they get to know The REAL YOU!

4 Strategies for Delivering Solutions Oriented Feedback
As a motivational keynote speaker, I receive solutions-oriented feedback regularly from my clients. Delivering and receiving feedback as a leader is crucial for your growth and your teams growth. In this podcast I am going to share 4 strategies for delivering solutions-oriented feedback that produces results. As a motivational keynote speaker its important for me to receive feedback in order to improve my performance and the truth is that it’s necessary.
But both kinds of feedback can ultimately be valuable: We need the affirmation just as surely as we need the correction. I review some of the best motivational keynote speakers in the world to improve my skills and sometimes the feedback is painful, but that’s what makes you want to get better
And, as a leader, part of your job is delivering feedback as needed. That means offering both kinds of feedback to your employees—and frankly, it can sometimes be hard to know what to say and how to say it.
Let me offer my advice—some basic tips for transformational leaders looking to deliver employee feedback as effectively as possible.
4 Strategies for Delivering Solutions Oriented Feedback
Ask your team members for feedback on you and it will encourage them to receive feedback. When someone actually requests feedback, it’s a lot less threatening… and thus, they’re much more likely to really listen and absorb it. As a motivational keynote speaker, it’s important for me to lead by example. I am always actively seeking out feedback on my own performance which opens the door for them. Also make it clear to your employees that you’re happy to have a low-key conversation about their performance any time they like.
Focus on growth opportunities and solutions. When your feedback is all about results, it can make your team members feel pressured. You can defray this by encouraging them to think in terms of learning, growth, and personal development. Don’t make your feedback about the bottom line; make it about effort. This means that you have to provide training and growth opportunities which will lead to better retention.
Take the Yoda approach. Yoda was famous for teaching by asking questions—guiding his young jedi to discovering insights on their own. You can take a similar approach when you give employee feedback, asking team members to reflect on their own performance and come up with some of their own insights. As a motivational keynote speaker, I regularly invite other speakers to critique my performance and they always start my asking me questions about how I feel it went and what I would improve.
Understand your teams personality. When you’re praising an employee, it can often be best to do so publicly—unless you know the employee to be shy, or to eschew public shows of affirmation. Meanwhile, when you criticize, it’s almost never wise to do it in front of an audience; better to take those opportunities one-on-one. This is no different than when I am about to deliver a motivational keynote speech, I send out a pre-program questionnaire so that I can understand the demographics of the audience in order to deliver a more focused message at the event which gets better results!
Those are some of my guidelines and strategies for effectively coaching and delivering solutions-oriented feedback to your employees. If you’d like to hear more about how transformational leaders deliver solutions-oriented feedback, I’d love to tell you! Reach out today and let’s chat together. The Ten Best Questions for Assessing Your Organizational Culture
In this podcast I am going to share with you my ten best questions for assessing your organizational culture. In order to assess your organizational culture to make changes its important to develop questions that will point you in the right direction and I know these ten questions for assessing your organizational culture will put you on the right path.
What’s difficult sometimes is defining your organizational culture, putting a finger on what makes it distinct. With that said, I think this quick questionnaire can be vital for just getting you started in thinking critically about what your organizational culture is and how it might be improved.
What is Organizational Culture?
Before we can assess our organizational culture it’s important that we understand what is organizational culture, generally speaking?
The way I explain organizational culture is that it’s a summary of how people at your business interact with each other… and, how they interact with clients and customers. More formally, you might say that organizational culture is the mixture of beliefs, assumptions, values, and habits that comprise the psychological environment of your workplace.
Organizational culture comes in different varieties, and some are healthier than others. So, how do you assess your company’s culture? That’s what we’ll address next.

5 Strategies for Fixing a Toxic Work Culture
There are many things that can contribute to a toxic work culture such as high stress, constant turnover, low morale and no teamwork. In this podcast I'm going to share five strategies for fixing a toxic work culture that you can use immediately with great success! Ask yourself a question; Is that the kind of workplace you have? It’s been my experience that often people who work in a toxic environment don’t quite realize it; they question their own reality, or simply blame themselves for their unhappiness.
But if you and your teammates struggle with engagement, with high anxiety, and with the constant interruptions of office politics and team discord, that may mean that your culture is simply poisonous.
That’s the bad news, but there’s some good news too: Leaders shape culture, and as such they can be proactive in fixing a culture that’s broken. It won’t be easy and it won’t be overnight, but there are some things you can do to remove the toxicity in your work environment.
Here are 5 strategies that you can use immediately to fix your toxic work culture
Focus your employees on their highest and best use. Instead of assigning work to each employee find out what they love to do both inside and outside of work, allow them to gravitate toward teams and projects that they feel passionate about—as long as they are working on initiatives that benefit the company. You may find that they possess a skill that will help the team and you didn’t even know about it!
Firing continues until morale improves. A big part of reserving healthy company culture is getting rid of the people you identify as toxic. I always make sure you counsel and coach them beforehand and try to make the save it’s much more effective. Don’t create a work environment where employees are constantly afraid, they could get axed without warning. However, if they won’t fit into the culture of the company you have to let them go and find a place where they will be more successful and happier.
Spend time and invest in training and developing your people. Don’t offer them a job; offer them a career, and a professional journey which means investing in your people especially leadership skills. This means mentoring, coaching, and using your annual review system to learn more about what your employees really want—and showing them how you can help them achieve it.
Don’t hire people just to be bigger. Don’t hire a person just because you need a warm body in the room to make your team look bigger. Hire because you find people whose gifts and passions align with your culture and will add value to your team.
Encourage and insist on teamwork. If you want to build your team its best to create projects that are designed to be tackled by several team members working in tandem. This will help to strengthen your team and build a bond and culture of family.
Again, these strategies won’t stamp out your toxic culture immediately—but they will help you to build something truly healthy and positive.

The Best Employee Engagement Strategies for 2020
The best employee engagement strategies are crucial to your business success moving forward, I don’t’ believe that there is a one-size-fits-all approach. In this podcast I will share with you the best employee engagement strategies for 2020.
In fact, I’d urge skepticism regarding most cookie-cutter approaches to retaining high levels of employee engagement. The fact is that all companies are different, and it’s important to choose your employee engagement strategies based on culture, company size, goals, etc.
There are a few principals that if implemented will surely bring you success because they are employee engagement strategies that work well across all different types of organizations. I’m not saying these are completely foolproof, but if you execute them properly, I think you’ll see your employee engagement numbers start moving in the right direction. Also, these principles can lay a firm foundation for more stronger and more advanced employee engagement effort in the future.
The 5 Best Employee Engagement Strategies for 2020
Give your employees a roadmap that will ensure their success.
Most people on planet earth prefer to have some sense of where their lives and their careers are headed. Your employees are no different. Younger employees are especially eager to have some sense of what’s coming down the road; they want to know if they have a real future within your organization or need to plan a career trajectory that involves a few employer changeups.
The best things you can do to facilitate employee engagement is provide your team members with positive feedback that they have a real future with your business with chances to grow new skills and have more responsibility. This can be as simple as holding regular career discussions with your employees, asking them where they see themselves in the years to come and providing them with some ways in which they can position themselves for advancement within your enterprise.
Always acknowledge and praise good work.
People like to have their efforts and accomplishments recognized.
It may seem like a small thing to highlight your team members’ achievements or to celebrate their successes… but actually, it’s no small thing at all for hard-working professionals to receive accolades from their upper management.
Statistics consistently show that most employees worry their efforts go unnoticed; and when employees feel like their hard work is never appreciated, they quickly lose their motivation to do anything but the bare minimum. I even believe some employees are just doing time until the next opportunity.
One of the most effective employee engagement strategies you can muster is to provide a few simple words of recognition when the situation calls for it.
Keep open lines of communication and even an open-door policy
Ensuring consistent, two-way communication between managers and employees is vital to a good employee engagement program.
All leaders should be proactive in sharing news and updates with team members. Nobody likes to be left in the dark, so make sure your employees have a good sense of where the company is headed, how things are going, what big projects are coming down the pipeline, etc. Dispensing such information on a “need to know” basis only can cause your team members to feel like you don’t really trust or value them.
Also, make sure you have channels in place for employees to present their questions, concerns, or suggestions, without fear of any kind of retaliation. It’s important to have an open-door policy, but you should go a step further and make sure employees know that their comments and feedback will be truly received by a leader or manager and treated with due seriousness.
For your organizational culture to thrive, it’s critical that you provide consistent two-way communication.
Give team members a sense of purpose and instill pride in their work.
Don’t assume that your team members are content to simply show up each day, do some grunt work, and collect a paycheck.
This may be true of some employees, but many of them want to do work that actually makes a difference. This is especially true of younger employees. They want to know that what they do matters.
Understanding that this is a powerful and motivational tool it can be helpful to provide a clear set of business values and principles, and to show each team member how their daily efforts connect to those values and principles. Make sure your employees know the mission of your organization and feel like they’re helping to further it.
Be fair with Everyone.
Sometimes the best strategies are the simplest of all to implement. I’ll offer a simple yet seismic suggestion: Treat your employees with fairness.
What do I mean by this? For one, it’s critical that employees feel like they are being judged on the basis of the effort they put in, not external factors that are outside their control.
Also, it’s important that leaders and managers hold themselves to the same standard (perhaps even a higher standard) as their employees.
Be sure that your team members consistently feel like they’re getting a fair shake; that so long as they work and behave to a specified standard, they will be rewarded in kind.
Questions About Employee Engagement Strategies?
These are some vital principles that I think will serve your organization well, and that translate pretty well from one business setting to the next.

Three Keys to Scaling Your Company Culture
There are three keys to scaling your company culture successfully if your organization as grown in the past year. In this episode of The Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast I am going to share with you the three keys to scaling your company culture successfully.
Every entrepreneur wants to see their business grow—but in some ways, that growth can be a two-edged sword. For instance, you may feel like your unique company culture is a key component of your success—and a primary factor in your growth. But when you achieve that growth, you may find that your culture is difficult to hold onto.
This is by no means an uncommon realization that a 10-person team become more difficult to uphold when there are 25 or 50 or 200 of you.
The good news is that there are three key steps you can take to develop a culture that will grow with you—in short, a culture that scales.
Here are my Three Keys to Scaling Your Company Culture
How to Scale Your Company Culture
It’s always best to define success, setting a clear goal for what your company values should be. This isn’t about logistics like snacks in the break room or where you have the company holiday party. It’s more a matter of defining those intangible things that you’d like your company to be defined by—like collaboration, or relationship, or improving the lives of customers, or whatever else. These intangible things can easily be adapted as your business evolves.
This is something more companies should do. Assemble a group of employees—ideally from different levels within the corporate hierarchy—and let them get together once a month or so to initiate cultural initiatives. Task them with creating and refining a statement of culture, and of reviewing the company’s activities to ensure ongoing cultural alignment.
One final suggestion: If you want new employees to fit into the culture, and to contribute to it in a meaningful way, make sure you talk about culture early in the hiring process. And, ask for their take—solicit their thoughts on what kind of culture they’d like to see.
These are just a few of my recommendations for building a company culture that will scale with you—but it’s something I’d love to talk with you about even more. Reach out and let us know we can help you! You can reach me at www.rickgoodman.com or call 888-267-6098.

5 Ways to Overcome Decision Fatigue
In Today’s world some of us are becoming exhausted from making hundreds of decisions weekly that affect our business and our personal lives. In this episode of The Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast I am going to give you 5 ways that you can overcome decision fatigue today!
5 Ways to Overcome Decision Fatigue
Use lists to make fewer decisions. A lot of your daily decisions can actually be avoided if you make a list and stick to it. The next time you are at the grocery store rather than walking through the supermarket trying to decide what you should buy, simply adhere to a grocery list. Daily to-do lists can have the same positive impact.
Delegate, Delegate, Delegate Hopefully, you’re surrounded by team members you trust—and if so, that means you have people to whom you can delegate decision making, especially on comparatively minor matters. Save your own decision-making energy for the really big and impactful items not the five-dollar activities!
Your best decisions are made in the morning. There is a lot of research to suggest that the best time to make big decisions is in the morning, which is when most of us have the most energy and the highest degree of decision-making tolerance. If you know you’ve got to decide about something, try to do it earlier in your workday.
Limit your options to less rather than more. For example, trying to decide between 100 different pieces of software can be maddening—so why not research two or three options, compare price points and overall value, then decide? Don’t allow yourself to become swamped by infinite choices.
Develop Daily Routines. Finally, one way you can minimize the decisions you have to make is by developing rituals and habits. For example, develop a routine of going to the gym every day at 8—and then, you no longer have to decide on each day’s workout time. Decide you’re doing to eat a salad for lunch every day, and then stop fussing over what to pack for your daily meal. Nobody likes to fall into a “rut,” but having certain rituals can really be helpful.
I hope these tips will be useful to you as you seek relief from decision fatigue. To learn more about being a decisive leader, reach out to me directly. Connect with Dr. Rick at www.rickgoodman.com or call 888-267-6098.

6 Ways to Create More Engaging and Fun Meetings
One of the most common complaints that I receive from my audiences when I am delivering a keynote speech on employee engagement or organizational leadership is “how can I make my meetings more fun and engaging?” Most meetings are ineffective they last forever, with a lot of words being spoken but no decisions being made, and no action steps taken. Meetings like that are pretty obviously a waste of time—and that’s equally frustrating for leaders and employees, all of whom have things they’d rather be doing.
But there’s another problem with meetings that are unengaging and boring: If all your meetings are unengaging, you’ll basically condition your team to arrive at each new meeting already expecting it to be a dreadful bore. You’ll have lost them before the meeting even begins.
So, what can you do? Is it possible to make your meetings fun and engaging? Absolutely it is. You’ve just got to be intentional in making each meeting engaging.
How to Make Your Meetings More Engaging
A few basic ways to do that include:
Have a “hook” at the beginning of each meeting. Tell a funny story, show an entertaining YouTube clip, or simply take a show-of-hands poll—anything to get people engaged right from the start.
Start your meetings with a clear definition of the meeting objectives—what you hope to accomplish and what all participants can expect to learn.
Allow emotions into your meeting. Ask people how they’ve been feeling about work since your last meeting. Take a temperature check of office morale.
Have a strong visual component to your meeting. In particular, have a way to showcase the brainstorming that’s happening and the thought that’s at work. A marker board, pin-up board, or even a sticker voting system can be useful here.
Build positivity into your meeting. Share success stories that have happened since the last meeting. Consider implementing a rule that the team must say three positive things about an idea before anyone is allowed to criticize or to shoot it down. Also creating a game or competition is a great way to motivate and engage your team.
Make your meeting more active. Ditch the chairs from your meeting space, and instead encourage your meeting participants to stand together in a huddle—a great way to engage their bodies and, hopefully, their minds!
Engaging meetings don’t just happen: They’re planned and executed with intention. You too can make your meetings more engaging and fun by implementing these 6 tips!

7 Different Leadership Styles for Your Organizational Culture
As a transformational leadership expert I am often asked "what is the best leadership style to use with my team"? There are many different leadership styles you can use to change your organizational culture or improve employee engagement.
In this episode of The Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast we will discuss the seven different leadership styles you can use as a leader to bring about organizational change.
What is the relationship between leadership and organizational culture? The answer is more complicated than you might think. On the one hand it’s very difficult to impose organizational culture, taking a top-down approach.
Organizational culture really needs to come from the team, and you’ll need widespread buy-in for any cultural changes to be effective. At the same time, I do think companies need leaders who set the tone, articulate a clear sense of mission, and embody organizational culture through the daily example they set.
The good news is there’s more than one way to apply leadership within your organizational culture… and some leadership styles are more effective than others. As you consider the best way to lead your culture-building initiative, allow me to share with you seven basic leadership styles, along with my comments on how effective each one is.
7 Different Leadership Styles for Your Organizational Culture
Democratic Leadership
A leader will gain feedback and insight from each team member, then make a final decision based on the group’s consensus.
This doesn’t necessarily mean everyone is on equal footing, as the senior leader or manager may still have basic veto powers, but it does empower everyone on the team to feel like they have a say, and some authority over what the organizational culture looks like. For this reason, I’d consider democratic leadership to be one of the more effective approaches.
Autocratic Leadership
Autocratic leadership, meanwhile, is the polar opposite of democratic leadership. In this leadership style, there’s one manager or executive who makes the decision all on their own, without soliciting input from anyone else on the team.
In my opinion this just isn’t a good way to run an organization. Yes, sometimes, you may have a situation where you will just have to make a tough call, and it may be a decision that team members don’t especially like. But that should be the exception, not the rule. Taking a full-on dictatorial approach will cause resentment to fester, and it can destroy your best-laid employment engagement strategies.
Let Them Do What They Want
This third category of leadership is almost like the democratic approach taken to an extreme. It basically means that the “leader” leaves all authority to the employees, allowing them to call the shots without any checks or balances.
Trusting your employees to simply work however they like, whenever they like, can actually be a decent approach in smaller and younger companies; indeed, you’ll generally see this leadership style used in startup environments. In more mature companies, though, it can often lead to trouble… a lack of purpose, a lack of unity, a lack of cohesion.
Transactional Leadership
Another leadership style to consider for your organizational culture is; Transactional leadership. With this approach, employees are always rewarded on the basis of the work they do; so, the team that brings in a big new account will receive an increase in their paycheck or bonus. In other words, transactional leadership is all about incentivizing.
I believe that there are some strengths here, but also some limitations. On the one hand, it’s helpful to clearly lay out roles, responsibilities, and expectations. At the same time, it can actually encourage employees to put in bare-minimum effort they really need to do to get the desired reward.
Coaching-style Leadership
Still another form of leadership to consider is the coaching style. And yes, this works much like a sports coach: The leader will work on identifying and then honing the strengths of the team as well as each individual employee. Most of the time, a coaching-style approach will lead to each employee having a few areas of expertise; hopefully, when you bring all the skill sets of the team together, it results in something cohesive and impactful.
I think this is a fairly effective way to lead a team, and in fact it has a lot in common with my favorite leadership style, which is transformational leadership.
Bureaucratic Leadership
Another leadership style to think about is bureaucratic. Leaders who adopt this strategy strictly adhere to company policies and procedures. They may sometimes solicit employee input, but they’ll reject it any time it contradicts existing standards, practices and routines.
As with autocratic leadership, the bureaucratic approach may stifle your employees, making them feel too closely controlled; again, it can really deflate your employee engagement strategies. I’d generally recommend against it.
Transformational Leadership
Lastly, there’s transformational leadership. This is the model where you are always looking for ways to improve a company’s existing systems or processes. It is goal-oriented, participative, and aspirational.
I think it’s the best way to lead a team and develop organizational culture because it provides employees with a lot of autonomy, but also keeps everyone focused on the same big-picture objectives.
I’m proud to call myself a transformational leadership expert and coach, and one of my favorite things is talking with managers and executives about how they can adopt a transformational approach. If you’re looking to revolutionize your organizational culture, the transformational leadership style may be just what you’re looking for. Reach out and let’s talk!

Why Changing Your Organizational Culture Is Not Working!
Have you ever wondered why it's so difficult to change the culture of an organization? Learn why it's so hard so you know what to do in this episode of the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast. All companies have a culture, but not all leaders are aware of their culture. It's only when you really assess your situation and know the values and routines that drive your team and shape your business then you can truly make an organizational cultural change.
As a motivational speaker and transformational leadership expert who has worked with global organizations and Fortune 500 companies, I have discovered that there are a few reasons why organizational change fails! The number one reason I see is that leaders are not aligned with the message and vision of the organization. As I always say, “you can't sell what you don't own”! If a leader does not believe in the mission or vision, they will never be able to sell the message.
Another reason organizational change does not work is when there are no foundational elements in place. The foundational elements I'm speaking about or a statement of values and mission or vision statement that's been memorialized and shared with the whole team. Another reason I have discovered is that managers aren't empowered to do the job they are strictly in a supervisory role equipped to guide team members through the smallest of changes.
Many of the companies I work with focusing on employee engagement have told me that the employees just don't see the point in change and that's why they're not moving forward. It's critical to have open communication and share your message with your team especially when it comes to making an organizational change if it is to work.
It's important also to get your HR team involved in any type of organizational change because they will have to be dealing with key HR processes, including recruitment, onboarding and any performance management systems you have in place.
Lastly, if organizational change is going to be successful there needs to be open communication and feedback channels so that the team feels included in decisions that will affect their lives and the focus of the company.
These are just a few of the reasons why your organizational change may not be working. If you'd like to learn more, or have any specific questions, I'd be thrilled to talk with you. I’m often asked by leaders around the world what is transformational leadership? They hear the words used but they don’t understand the benefit or the true meaning a transformational leadership. In this episode I will share with you the benefits of having a transformational leadership culture in the five steps that you can use to implement one immediately in your organization.
In order to understand why we recommend implementing a transformational leadership culture in your organization it’s important to understand some of the benefits.
A transformational leader can enhance employee morale and performance providing a strong sense of purpose to motivate change and ultimately create a work environment it’s characterized by trust.
Five steps for implementing a transformational leadership culture:
Focus on your situational awareness this includes performing interviews and employee assessments to determine each individual’s highest and best use within the team.
Practice what you preach and lead by example! Teams go where you go, and your employees will always be looking to make sure that you’re doing exactly what you said you were going to do. When you are a leader that walks their talk, your team will start follow-through.
Create an open and transparent feedback process. Make sure that process is constructive and that you have an intentional, dynamic and value adding approach to giving feedback.
Have an open-door policy: transformational leaders that are willing to accept feedback from their employees find that their employees are more willing to cooperate and be open to change.
Invest in the professional development of the members of your team. There’s nothing more important than constantly developing your team members and improving their skills. This long-term investment will always pay the greatest dividends including an increasing retention and attracting even more talent.

It’s been my experience that many times there’ve been people on my team that could do a better job in certain areas of the business than I could. In the past I have micromanaged my employees and thought I could do everything on my own however that’s not a scalable model to grow your business. I discovered for ways that you can immediately empower your team to become better leaders and grow the team exponentially.
It’s important to understand that you can’t do everything on your own if you’re going to truly scale your business. Transformational leaders who are solutions-oriented leaders understand that delegation and the development of other leaders is the key to success.
The best transformational leaders inspire their team with a sense of vision. They make sure that their team understands the “Why” in everything they do because they understand the communication is the key to a transformational leader’s success!
The focus of a solutions-oriented leader is to develop a culture of open communication. They understand that most employees are afraid to step up and take leadership or responsibility for fear of failure. The best transformational leaders make it clear that their employees need to speak up and express their opinions without any fear or retribution in order for the team to grow.
A solutions-oriented leader understands that they need to make opportunities available for their team to attend professional development seminars, webinars, and even engage them with an executive coach. The more emphasis that is put on development of the leaders of our team, the more the team will grow producing a happy and healthy work environment.

Building the right leadership skills in today’s world is crucial for your success as a leader. In this episode we will discuss the importance of having the right leadership skills and the seven key leadership skills that will bring you the results you desire.
I am often asked buy leaders and executives that I coach if I believe that leaders, we’re born that way or if they have developed their skills over long period of time. I believe both are true, I think that there are some natural born leaders however they always have to develop their skills and are constantly working on themselves.
I believe there is seven key leadership skills that we need to develop in order to be successful.
Seven Key Leadership Skills for Success!
In today’s world leaders must be agile things can change in a minute and I have to be flexible enough to respond.
Leaders need to develop their sense of vision and be able to communicate that effectively to their team in order to achieve their goals.
Delegation is going to be the key to a leaders success. It’s impossible for you to do everything on your own and sometimes you’re going to find people on your team that we’ll be able to do a better job than you can.
A leader is going to have to motivate their team to reach levels they never thought possible. I always say, “teams go where you go” and “you can’t sell what you don’t own.” So, it’s imperative that you walk your talk!
Leaders in today’s world need to be able to develop talent. You have to put the wooden before you go to get the fire out and one of the biggest mistakes leaders make is not fully training the members on their team.
Stress management is another skill that today’s leaders need to develop. The workplace can be a stressful place and the leader needs to know how to roll with the punches. We work to live we don’t live to work, and balance is going to be the key.
A true leader always sets the example. Your team is always going to be watching your every move so act the way you want your team to act and you will be developing Solutions oriented team.

If you are like me there have been many times when you’ve worked hard a whole day and felt like you got nothing accomplished. There were distractions, meetings and drains on your time. I call these the productivity killers that live in your workplace.
On today’s episode of the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast we are going to discuss four ways that you can conquer productivity killers and create more time to accomplish your most important goals and objectives with ease.
The 4 ways to conquer your productivity Killers:
Use a time log to track your time and find out what the biggest drain on your productivity and time are throughout the week. If you do this I guarantee you will find several hours of wasted time that you can refocus to be more productive in the future.
Give yourself a break! Taking a break throughout the day for as little as 10 minutes can help increase your productivity and decrease your stress levels. Go out and get some fresh air, stretcher muscles and come back ready to rock.
Make sure that your meetings are productive. Wherever I speak I hear CEOs and leaders complain about the number of meetings and the time that is wasted in them. Make sure that you have a focused agenda and you know what you want to accomplish before you even begin the meeting. As many people know I’m also a big fan of the morning huddle a 15 minute meeting three times a week accomplishes a lot more than a long drawn out meeting in the middle of the day.
Start with the one task that you dislike the most often is one of the most important tasks that you can accomplish in a day. Another great thing to do is tackle 3 to 4 mini tasks which will also give you motivation and make you feel good about yourself.

Here are six steps you can take immediately to build your personal brand:
Do a self-assessment before you start branding yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses and where do you add value to an organization?
Make sure to memorialize everything by writing it out! This is something personal so you don’t have to share with everyone. It will just help you to clarify who you are and what your team leadership style truly is.
Decide how you are going to establish your thought leadership. Your personal brand needs to be in a consumable form for people to know who you are and what you are all about. This may mean keynote speeches, blogs, or any other form of social media or podcasting.
Make sure to have an elevator pitch. This means when you meet someone whether it’s in an elevator or for a couple of minutes and they ask you what you what you do for living, you can explain with ease

As an executive coach and consultant, I’m constantly asked by new team leaders and veteran team leaders about what they can do to become more effective. In this episode of the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast I am going to share with you seven key steps you can take to become a more effective leader right away!
The best transformational leaders I know provide vision and motivation to their teams. They are certainly not perfect leaders however; they focus on constant improvement. There are seven key steps that you can take to become a more effective leader right away whether you were just beginning on your journey to become a more effective leader or are already a veteran leader who is looking to improve their skills.
Understand your own leadership style by undergoing a self-assessment. It’s important to know the style of leadership that you use, whether your introvert or extrovert or someone who likes to delegate versus someone whose a micromanager. If you’re not sure asking friend and tell them to be honest!
The best transformational leaders make time in their schedule to lead. I like to take what I call a walkabout in the morning and greet each and every team member to see if they need any help. Most of the time the answer is no, however I wanted to know that I have their back and that I’m interested in what they’re doing.
You must have a good understanding of your people exclamation point! Transformational leaders take the time to engage with each member of their team really getting to know them. It’s important to another strengths and weaknesses so that you could focus them on their highest and best use within the team structure.
The best team leaders know how to communicate effectively. It is critical that you’re intentional and the way you communicate. (https://www.rickgoodman.com/build-better-culture-key-communication/ ) Make sure you set expectations and let your team know when is the best time to communicate with you so that you could be one-on-one focused with that member of the team
Transformational leaders are always setting the example for others. “Your team goes where you go” as I always say! They will be constantly looking at your every move so you need to set the example if you want them to follow.
The most effective team leaders know the importance of delegation. Many times we have people on our team that can do a better job than we can. After all when the team does well the team leader looks the best. It’s important to build trust and your team, after all if you can’t trust your team members they shouldn’t be on your team.
The best leaders make rapid decisions! After all you got a 50-50 shot if you get it wrong and make a new decision. As I say the baseball players that are in the Hall of Fame struck out 70% of the time. If you have a 300-lifetime batting average you’re most likely in the baseball Hall of Fame. However, if you don’t get up to the plate and take a swing you have no chance of getting a hit.
If you can implement these seven key steps right away you will already be in the process of becoming a more effective team leader!

Your team is your company’s most valuable asset! That’s why it’s so important for you as a leader to care about employee engagement. Today I’m going to share with you five key benefits of an employee engagement program and why you need to have one immediately if you want to retain your best people and attract new talent into your organization.
The five key benefits to employee engagement:
Engagement helps increase productivity. Employees were highly engaged and have a sense of purpose and contribution on the team tend to work harder which leads to more productivity.
Engaged employees have a stronger sense of the company mission and vision. When employees are engaged you can keep everybody on the same page, focused towards the same goals and end results.
The more employees are engaged the more creative they become. When employees are engaged, they tend to brainstorm ideas and come up with new ways of doing things. Unengaged employees go through the motions or as I say “they look like they’re doing time”.
With an increasing employee engagement there is a decrease in employee turnover. When employees feel like they are part of the team and they’re appreciated for their dedication and hard work they don’t quit. In fact, those employees tend to refer other team members that are just as good if not better than they are!
Your clients and customers will know what difference if your employees are engaged and support the company mission. Employees were engaged tend to offer a higher level of customer experience. They also tend to be happier and more willing to solve problems which leads to customer satisfaction.
So, you can see how important employee engagement is to the bottom line in any organization. To find out more about implementing an employee engagement program you can contact us at info@RickGoodman.com Or call us at 888-267-6098

Most books on leadership are full of platitudes. You know, the “it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog” kind of nonsense. But this book is different. Author and leadership consultant Rick Goodman has written a book full of actionable information on how to be a leader, how to employ leadership, and how to foster leadership in the people who report to you. What’s more, the book is organized so carefully that after you’ve read through it, it’s easy to use the book as a reference guide and quickly refer back to whatever issue, problem or point you need clarification on. I enjoyed reading Goodman’s book and I learned a lot. I believe you will too.

Many of us have to deal with difficult personality styles in our professional and personal lives. In order to master and manage our communication effectively to achieve the maximum results we must understand what make these styles difficult and how we can use them to drive solutions for our clients and customers.
The four personality style that we will examine in this episode are:
Victims
Complainers
Egomaniacs
Absentees
Although there are many different personality styles that we need to manage in our careers, these are the ones I most commonly see while working as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies.
Today on the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast we are going to discuss the number one way you can connect and engage with your team!
Are you communicating and connecting with the people on your team?
Are you talking more than you're listening
In today's email driven world communication is sometimes a one-way conversation instead of a dialogue.
We need to have more conversations with the people on our team and create more of a dialogue to get the information that might possibly take us to the next level.
The reality is that the people doing work for us are in touch with what they're doing on a regular basis.
Sometimes they see things that us leaders don't generally see so we've got to have that dialogue, that conversation and it's the best way to get feedback from the people on your team.
Just remember what my grandmother says we have two ears and one mouth to listen twice as much as we speak.
When you start to listen twice as much as you use too, you can start to hear twice as much as you've heard before and you'll be able to take action on twice as many projects than you ever have before.
The end results double the production, success and satisfaction.

How to Use Conflict to Make a Connection!
Many times, leaders would rather avoid conflict than to confront it. As I said before I believe that conflict can be good and can even help us to make a connection with our team. On this episode of the solutions oriented leader podcast we are going to discuss how we can take conflict and use it to make a connection by taking a number of steps.
It's always important to start with a self-assessment and look in the mirror to decide what type of personality do you have and what is the best way that people can communicate with you. Once you have this figured out you need to communicate that to your employees.
It's also important to be mindful of your habits and communicate them to your teammates and family and remember that people think and buy from emotion. So, if you truly want to connect with people even when you're involved in the conflict you have to think about your emotions and also their emotions.
When a transformational leader begins to confront conflict, they will soon start to see conflict dissipate and engagement in connection begin.
Check out this episode to find out more how you can use conflict to make a connection.

The Seven Traits of a Resilient Leader
Many studies have indicated the importance of resilience is both an individual and leadership trait. On today’s solutions-oriented leader podcast you will discover seven traits of resilient leader. A resilient leader is a person who sees failure as temporary setbacks and they believe they can recover from them quickly. They always maintain a positive attitude and a strong sense of opportunity during tough times.
When a resilient leader faces a roadblock, they find a way to move forward and avoid getting stuck. Many resilient leaders are also transformational leaders who are constantly looking to develop other leaders in their organizations who could provide solutions that achieve excellent results.
Here is a list of the Seven Traits of a Resilient Leader:
Resilient Leaders have an ability to communicate their message in a powerful manner so that their team members understand the challenges of any situation and are developing solutions for a positive outcome.
Any great athlete or entertainer or businessperson knows the importance of constant improvement. This is the case for resilient leaders they are open to feedback and often ask others for feedback also. Once they receive the feedback, they also demonstrate an ability to take action in a positive way. They are truly transformational leaders.
Resilient leaders understand that with no risk there is no reward they understand that to be very successful you have to take risks sometimes. They understand if you continue to do the same thing you can get stuck in a rut.
Resilient Leaders understand the importance of developing other leaders. Developing everyone helps them to learn from their mistakes. It is been demonstrated that leaders who want feedback for themselves are more likely to give productive feedback and coaching to others, because they want honest feedback as well.
Resilient Leaders overruling the change in their able to provide leadership to ensure that the organizational culture is one that is change oriented. Resilient leaders embrace change and also encourage other members of their team to embrace change also.
Resilient Leaders build strong teams by creating strong and positive relationships with members of their team. Individuals may be willing to make changes but requires a positive environment and supportive relationships to be able to make that change successfully.
Resilient Leaders understand that making decisions is always difficult because no person has all the data or understands everything. They also understand that organizations cannot move forward until a decision gets made. The most resilient leaders are effective at making decisions moving forward. They make the wrong decision; they are quick to make a different decision and move in another direction.

Building Your Team with Remote Employees
I believe that if you are going to have remote employees you must bring them together for a team building exercise at minimum once a year. When done right, these activities can improve communication, foster cohesion, and bolster morale.
It’s a lot harder to include employees in your group activities when those employees don’t work in the same building—or in some cases, when they don’t even work in the same town!
Here are three quick solution to help you build virtual or remote teams successfully.
Build Rapport One of the disadvantages of being a remote employee is that you don’t get to participate in everyday small talk, like on-campus employees do. Make it a point to go around to each employee, and especially each remote employee, and ask them something about their family or about how their week is going.
Set up meetings off-site. With Wi-Fi accessibility, it’s easier than ever for your employees to spend an hour or two working outside the office—in a Starbucks, for instance. This can be a good way to include employees who live in the same community but don’t come into the office each day. Set up an afternoon for employees to get together in an external location—somewhere the remote employees can be in the mix!
Create a Buddy or Mentor System A simple suggestion: If you have a project requiring two people, encourage one in-house person to work alongside a remote employee. Have them get together over Skype or Facetime to work on the assignment together. Simply facilitating these partnerships can be very valuable to building team cohesion!
Of course, one final suggestion is to contact a team building expert who can come in and make some specific recommendations—and that’s something I’d love to help with. Reach out now and let’s talk about your company culture and team building needs.
You can contact me at www.rickgoodman.com or call 888-267-6098.

5 Tips for Making Your Day More Productive
I’ve talked before about the importance of having the right morning routine—It’s not enough to have a to-do list these days. What we really need to do is think about when you’re going to do things according to highest and best use of our time
Here are Five Actions that you can take to make your day more productive!
Plan your weeks in advance. Let’s start with the big picture: You should begin each week with a clear agenda, including the major projects you need to complete or commitments you need to uphold. Write down what your main areas of focus need to be each day and stick to it.
Set daily goals. It’s good to have long-term goals, but I also recommend having three to five main things you want to achieve each day. Review those items as your day begins, and block it off in your schedule. It’s always wise to structure your day around the biggest goals.
Schedule uninterrupted work time. You can’t simply hope for a block of time to do creative work and get things done. You actually put it on your schedule, then turn off your phone and desktop alerts so that you can make it happen. Many studies suggest the best time to schedule uninterrupted work time is in the morning.
Schedule administrative tasks. Checking email, listening to voicemails, updating your company’s social media—these “little” things can really eat into your productive time. That’s why I recommend setting aside one or two times each day where you focus on these things—maybe in the morning and then again before you leave the office.
Plan meetings for the afternoon. If you have your creative time in the morning, then you can save administrative tasks—including meetings and conference calls—for the afternoon, which is when a lot of us start to lose a little steam anyway.
Those are just some of the action steps that you can take to make your day more productive!

Hi this is Dr. Rick Goodman international leadership expert, keynote speaker and author of the Amazon Kindle best-selling book The Solutions Oriented Leader in this episode of the Solutions Oriented Leader Podcast our topic is "Why Leaders Fail"
There are many reasons why leaders fail, however in this episode I'm going to examine four of the most common reasons that I have found over the last 30 years to be the core reasons why leaders fail.
1.They Lack Self-Awareness
I have discovered that many leaders lack self-awareness of their behaviors or their communication styles. In order to be a successful leader, you have to be aware of your communication and be prepared for life of never-ending improvement.
2.They lack communication skills the drive engagement in connection
Some leaders communicate through social media, email, texts and tweets when real engagement is through connection and conversation.
3.They Fail to Communicate across All Generations
Many leaders fail to communicate across all generations instead of just the ones that they like to spend the most time with. That's the easy thing to do! Stepping out of your comfort zone is a hard thing to do, but that's what true leaders do.
4.They Fail to Connect with People on a Personal and Emotional Level
A leader must touch people personally and emotionally with their vision and their goals. Emotions drive sales, productivity and direction. The key is to be forthcoming and transparent with yourself and your message.

There are many things that we get wrong about company culture. Today I am going to share and dispel four myths that are frequently discussed by the business community around the world so that you can be aware of them and develop your own solutions and results!

I've written so many times about the importance of company culture and in fact many of my keynote speeches recently are focused on that general theme also on how it can be a tool for your recruiting how it helps with engagement and how it improves performance and gives your company and your team the competitive edge in order to compete in today's very competitive environment.
As a business leader you can't just overhaul your old company culture with a simple decree, you can't just say this is what we’re going to be doing moving forward especially if you been doing it differently for many years.
Even before we implement a program to begin to change the culture in any organization, we first must assess what some of weakest areas that need improvement may be found.
It has been my experience as a consultant who has implemented transformational leadership systems into companies around the world successfully for over thirty years that there are four common areas that we all need to focus on to improve workplace culture.
Here are a few:
Ensure that employees are empowered to make decisions:
Align your employees with the mission of the company
Allow your employees to innovate
Create a culture of feedback.
Once you have assessed how you are doing there are a few simple steps that you can take to start improving your workplace culture immediately.
1.Talk to your employees.
Simply by involving your employees in regular communication, you’ve already made your culture better.
2.Be Flexible.
Think about ways to inject some flexibility into your employee experience.
3.Encourage professional development.
This can be as simple as providing some flexibility for employees who want to pursue some continuous education courses.
4.Recognize employees.
There are a number of ways in which you can recognize employees, whether it’s by giving them the day off on their birthday; creating an Employee of the Month honor; or simply giving public shout-outs for employees who make a difference.
5.Make room for innovation.

Hi this is Dr. Rick Goodman and welcome to another episode to solutions oriented leader podcast today
I'm going to share with you seven ways that you can grow your leadership skills right now to achieve world-class results.
Sometimes I am asked by new leaders and people that are just getting opportunities to grow especially new college graduates how do I get ahead what's important for me to learn?
I was just reading a study from Price Waterhouse Coopers that 77% of new CEOs are looking for two key skills and those skills are innovation and creativity. What I've also found out is that leaders are not born, leaders are developed!
Sometimes you can have somebody with natural leadership skills, however, most of us out there have got to learn to develop our skills on a regular basis. I will also let you know that my skills were not very good right from the beginning.
In my new book The Solutions Oriented Leader I discuss how I went through over 200 front desk assistants my first two years of practice because my communication skills were quite poor and what I was missing is one common key that I've seen that is missing from so many would-be leaders on this planet and that is self-awareness!
It took me over 200 people revolving through my doors and one employee who came into my office and said if you ever speak to me like that again I'm out here for me to realize that it wasn't them it was me!
I needed to work on my communication skills so one of the first things that I decided to do was go around and meet people that were doing the things that I wanted to do! They were the leaders that I wanted to be and they also possessed certain skills and the first skill that they possessed was a self-awareness.
One of the first things that you could do in order to improve your leadership skills is take a leadership assessment go get out there and assess yourself. You can use a DISC assessment or you can go to the solutions oriented leader.com and take the free leadership style assessment
When we are doing consulting and coaching with individuals and corporations, we give people assessments right up front!
