An interview special with London Bases Reggae band The Dualers

Tyber chatted to Dan Evans on the Reggae show the evenign before the release of

"Voices From the Sun"

The Dualers - Bio (from website)

**Lead singer and founding member Tyber Cranstoun's love for Ska and Reggae music developed from a very early age. His father, Bill was a local promoter of Jamaican music in the 1960s and ran his Savoy Sound System at several locations in south London. After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Tyber began busking with his brother Si Cranstoun on the streets of Canterbury and South London where his distinctive vocals and lively performances soon began to draw in large audiences. With an ever increasing fan base developing, Tyber seconded a group of musicians. Together they began writing their own songs and performing them live to audiences across the south-east.

They first hit the headlines when the single ‘Kiss on the Lips’ entered in to the UK charts at number 21 despite no industry or professional backing, the follow up single Truly Madly featured in full on the Hollywood blockbuster Fools Gold, the success continued with a number of album releases, several top 40 chart singles and an ever increasing large worldwide fan base behind them.
2019 saw the release of the hotly anticipated album, Palm Trees & 80 Degrees which stormed into the UK album chart at number 11, reached number 2 in the independent chart and number 1 in the reggae chart. Heralded as Britain’s finest Ska & Reggae band The Dualers continue to play to sell-out crowds all over the UK, Europe & Asia, they have also played their first Arena tour this year which saw the band headline Wembley Arena on 14th May. The brand new album Voices From The Sun will be released on 12th August.**

Test Card Girl is the solo project that singer/songwriter Catherine Burgis has been working on since 2019. Based in Manchester, UK, Catherine decided to explore the depths of her creative mind after finding herself bored of living from administrative work. She began writing songs and doing stand-up comedy, which led to the release of her first single in September 2020. Her debut quickly gathered the attention of John Kennedy on Radio X and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music (presented in the “Ones to Watch 2021” show). Receiving an Arts Council England Grant allowed her to work on her debut EP.

Influenced by artists such as Marika Hackman, Bon Iver and Tracy Chapman, Test Card Girl presents her second single, “If You’re Feeling Down”. After enjoying the electronic, synthwave elements present in her debut track, we are now delighted by this folk song, in which Catherine’s charming voice and acoustic guitar invite the listener to a state of profound calm and warmth. A track that feels like sunshine, with delicate vocals and sweet melodies that will leave you smiling, feeling uplifted… such a beautiful experience.

Some snapshots about Malissa 16 years old a finalist on Songwriter of the year, launched her 1st album with a TV debut on Channel 4 ..THE WORD

Worked at Capital Radio in Programming and with the station in-house record label Wildstar Records

Worked with Universal Records and OK Magazine..on various media projects

Currently writing for new breaking artists from the Voice and X Factor.

Malissa Says Music, Radio and TV has always played a big part in my life and for the past 15 years I have had the privilege to work with some of the best directors, producers and writers in these industries. The past year has been very eventful as I’ve been filming a TV pilot for my first comedy script. This has been a very exciting and challenging time in my career. Working with a television production team and filming with a wonderful cast of household names. I have also been recording an original soundtrack for the show which has broadened my horizons both on and off camera, giving me the opportunity to get back in the recording studio to write new music which is my first love and how this journey started. A huge thank you to each and everyone of you who has been involved to make this happen. More news will follow over the next few months. This journey started at 16 years old when I signed my first management deal as a singer songwriter after entering a nation wide competition for ‘songwriter of the year’. This lead to me writing my first album, touring with Top 40 artists and running my own recording studios. My writing has taken me on an amazing journey from song writing for new artists to script writing for TV concepts.

All of which I look forward to sharing with you…

This week I spoke to Steve Bonham & The Long Road

Country band but not the country as you know it, they are Vagabonds doing it their way.

A varied background with Kev playing with bands such as Saxon, Steve brings the lyrical expertise and Chris his musical training, but all too often they cast that aside to free flow with passion

Bio

Wide-brimmed hat. Long dark coat. Guitar slung on back. 31 years on the road. A hundred thousand miles and half a thousand hotel rooms. From the Berlin Wall to the Atlas Mountains, from the Sahara Desert to the streets of Hong Kong, from the Appalachian Mountains to the frozen lakes of Ontario: a memory brewed in the long simmering soup of people and place. A man who has learned to watch and to listen, to walk and talk in the ebb and flow of meeting and parting. He is a chronicler of the human spirit in words and music. His is an intimate creativity – drawn from the direct experience that comes from getting dirt on your boots; dust in your eye and sweat on your brow. Steve Bonham is a storyteller, a published author, an inveterate traveller, for decades a songwriter, performer and musician, and an award-winning psychologist. Born in Derbyshire, England, Steve studied psychology and philosophy at university. He has recorded more than 10 albums; two musicals; and several books including A Little Nostalgia for Freedom. He is the author of the Vagabond Philosopher blog. His latest project Gone to Look for America comprises the book A Beautiful Broken Dream and two albums: The Girl With The Rattlesnake Heart and Reliance written with his compadres in The Long Road: Kev Moore; Chris Lydon and John Humphreys. www.vagabondphilosopher.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_gc1HHPqQw check us out www.duggystoneradio.com check out the previous interviews thanks for checking this out Kirk please sub to the show

I was Gripped when I heard the Background behind how Martin (The Big Boss) met and collaborated with an amazing Poet Jason

The interview could have gone on for hours and that's when you know its special

we also listened to three-track that were amazing

Below is the Press Pack release from Them

please check them out and investigate their sound it's like faithless meets the Streets

I Witness are award-winning poet Jason N Smith and Electronic artist Martin Byrne. Based in Stoke and Macclesfield respectively. A unique blend of hard hitting, truthful spoken word and pulsating electronic beats reminiscent of Leftfield, Faithless, Massive Attack and Kate Tempest. Their debut album "The Word" has been 2 years in the making with a 13 track tour de force of songs about love, hate, racism, incarceration, domestic violence, climate change, knife crime, slavery, homelessness, mental health, beauty, hopes, and dreams.

I Am England - Track 1 My Name Is Kyoto - Track 6 When She Stopped Running - Track 12 I first met Jason in the Summer of 2018. I went to a gig at The Swan With Two Necks in Macclesfield called “Let’s Get Chipfaced 2”. It was essentially musical geeks who had hacked many forms of games consoles, mostly old, and turned them into musical instruments.

Before the bands started the compere said “We’re going to start with some poetry” and, in my ignorance, I thought “oh great”. So a couple of poets came out and delivered their verse, then on walks Jason. He has a presence before he’s even opened his mouth he seemed to command attention. He starts with “How Can I Explain” and I’m captivated instantly, the accent, the words, the cadence, the honesty. I could instantly hear music. After he’d finished I offered to buy him a pint and said: “That was great, what’s your story man?”

Now J and I don’t actually know each other that well, I think we’ve met in person ten times or less. So what he told me that night is most of what I do know. He spent years in and out of prison, had some form of epiphany in prison, and started to challenge his very existence. Then he started documenting that challenge and change by writing poems. We haven’t talked that much about that side of his life and I haven’t really asked much about it. I don’t need to.

The past is there in the poems, it’s all there, in its starkness, joy, despair and hope, in its honesty, brutality, reality and scope. So, the J I actually know is a gentle man, a kind man, a man aware of his own shortcomings, a man always looking to help others, a man with an ambition to be so much more than his past has delivered. We are mates, brothers in verse and music. I Witness is an extension of Jason, one part of his multifaceted repertoire and I feel lucky to be a part of it. Neither of us knows what this project means, if it’s a one time thing or not, and neither of us care because I Witness is the result of a chance meeting, a chance conversation between two men taking a chance on each other because they both fundamentally believe in, and look for, the good in people, and if that random meeting had never happened…

A lot has been written about how much millionaires and billionaires read, they read to expand their knowledge of the world and extract new ways of thinking, predicting trends and staying ahead of the curve. So are we expected to all be able to consume page after page of text?

Not everyone is an avid reader, even people that are will find it pretty difficult to keep up with the likes of Warren Buffet; who is said to read 500 pages per day! yes per day. But no matter how much I may want to read every book on this year’s “Best of” lists, my life just isn’t set up to spend hours every day curled up with the most recent cool title. And the same probably holds true for most entrepreneurs and small business owners.

It's why I rely on podcasts, and why you should, too!

So, why podcasts? Podcasts have moved to the very top of my list of the best life hacks of recent years. Podcasts are entertaining and educational all at the same time, they are also accessible in most situations. Think about it, if you are traveling, waiting for a meeting or just working in the garden, a smartphone and set of earbuds and your consuming information at a time that you cannot sit and read.

Podcasts have evolved massively since their emergence back in 2003. Back in the day Podcasts, let's face it we're not accessible and a bit nerdy. Now you don't need a degree in microelectronics to attempt to find one and access them either.

Smartphones are what has made it all possible and they represent the largest type of device for accessing podcasts.

I feel we need some more stats on this and not just the American 44% who listen to podcasts.

OFCOM reported in 2019 the following "Around 7.1 million people in the UK now listen to podcasts each week. That’s one in eight people and is an increase of 24% over the past year – and more than double over the past five years. Ofcom research also found that half of the listeners have joined the podcast wave in the last two years".

1. Does your brain interpret listening, the same way as reading? The simple answer has to be yes, a great example of this concept below, taken from an article written by Bookriot

"Reading a physical book and listening to the audiobook are two different paths that lead to the same destination. Each creates differing experiences and memories, but neither is better or worse than the other".

2. All the information you need to know. Podcasts are like blogs. Like bloggers, Podcasters like to share their experiences and cover a wide array of topics. There is probably a podcast out there about any subject you can think of.

The Apple podcast stats report shows that there were 550,000 podcasts on the web in 2018. Today there are an estimated 750,000 podcasts in the world.

Spotify now has podcasts on its platform making it even more accessible for people consume information on the go, in the office or lying on a beach chair.

3. Using Time Twice In our busy world and our lives being able to gain that extra edge or gain time multitasking or using our time twice has become the norm to most people. So whilst prepping your lunch or giving the car a clean you can be finding the information you need on a particular topic and gain it by listening. It makes sense, so instead of listening to the latest track by your top artist, you can be learning something.

4. Listening can enhance the experience. Regardless of how you read most people skim articles or pages in books, however in our Human DNA, we are hard-wired to listen to stories, we listen intently. The written word is a relatively new development in our evolution. Stories, well stories have been with us since before the first printing press was imagined. Cave drawings and sharing information around campfires is how we made sense of the world and entertained our tribes (go and entertain your tribe).

5. Voice-activated and New Technology Voice-activated speakers and technology being fitted into cars and other devices like TV's, mean it's even easier for people to find and absorb Podcasts. You can ask Alexa to play your podcast on an Amazon speaker or even from a smartphone in your vehicle (if you have the app of course). Some new vehicles are fitted with apps in their media systems, which will see more and more consumers ditching DAB in favour of the content they want to listen to when they want to listen to it.

Back in 2017 at duggystone radio we saw this trend and its why you can say "Alexa Open Internet Radio" and hey presto you are listening to Duggystone Radio. We also realise it's not always convenient to tune in when a show is on so we Podcast all our shows on to a platform then add to the station's Podcast feed (check it out here)

  1. Consumer or Producer So Podcast are pretty vital life hack for not only consumers of information "all of us" , but also for people creating content to get a message across or for business to really connect with their target audience.

Podcast don't negate the need for Blogs, Videos, Facebook posts and other social media platforms, they add to it.

but for business what does this all mean, does it turn a profit, does it make sense from a financial prospect.

Well let's look at some stats:-

  • 2 million podcasts are registered by Google.
  • 54% of podcast consumers say they think about buying advertised products.
  • Businesses spent $497 million on podcast advertising in 2018.
  • Brands that advertise their products and services on business podcasts enjoy an average 14% rise in purchase intent.

A killer fact MailChimp exploded as a business when it was advertised on a Podcast!

Summary Podcast are defining how people consume information and its also a fast-growing marketing sector that companies are adopting to really connect with their existing or target customers. In our busy lives, it's an ideal platform for consumer information on the go and is as effective are reading. The information is abundant and is also more engaging as it taps into our human DNA for stories.

A final note for companies thinking I would love to podcast, I don't know where to start or it sounds mega expensive and we don't have the budget for that.

Well its part of what we do at Duggystone Radio, we "Turn Ideas Into Audio" we run both Classroom-based courses or even 1:2:1 session at our studios in The Midlands or Bristol.

Regarding the cost well we use systems that are free to edit the podcast and hosting that is free so you can test the water before you move to a host that has more functionality but which comes at a cost. Equipment does not have to be that expensive either, we have that covered as well.

For more information drop us a mail at contact@duggystoneradio.com

or check out our latest courses or 1:2:1 sessions

Danny Baker- Radio presenter tweeted the image with a Chimpanzee and two people. This image has been used a lot of times to throw ridicule at say the royal family or celebrities.

When the royal baby is of mix heritage due to Meghan Markle family heritage, it can be viewed a whole different way.

Danny Baker took the tweet down within 8 mins but the damage was already done. The BBC decided to dismiss him and a police inquiry followed.

So when I discussed this at a network meeting I was surprised when a friend of mine Tosin, who is from Nigeria said

"I don't think he was being racist at all"

Had the pleasure not only to interview FUzzhoneys but see them perform live in Manchester on their UK tour

Tour Dates and Locations

In Collaboration with www.undergroundsound.eu

and www.duggystoneradio.com

www.fuzzhoneys.com

Fuzzhoneys (written without any spaces) is a female duo from Malta. Their sound can be summarized as garage rock, spiced up with elements of the Blues, a dash of girly punk and a whole lot of soul. A combination of Francesca Mercieca’s husky vocals, groovy bass-lines and crispy riffs, and Caroline Spiteri’s incisive drumbeats, Fuzzhoneys’ music is engagingly unique and vibrant.

The first sounds of the ‘fuzz’ date back to September 2012, in what was essentially a jam session which actually yielded the duo’s first song “Chemistry”. Working behind closed doors for a good year or so, Fuzzhoneys gave their first public performance in April 2014, when they played at that year’s ‘Rock the South Festival’ at ‘Zion Reggae Bar’ in Marsascala, Malta. Since then, they have clocked up an impressive number of gigs at popular Maltese venues such as ‘Zion Reggae Bar’, ‘Funky Monkey’ and ‘Rumors’, local festivals and several venues in Europe.

Around the month of August that same year, the band entered the recording studio for the first time with producer Daniel Buttigieg. The idea was to record a 5-track EP that would capture the true, raw sound, that Buttigieg had been so intrigued by when he had first seen Fuzzhoneys performing live. The first single, “Soul” was released preceding the duo’s first.

live show abroad, which experience came about at the legendary ‘Water Rats’ in London’s King’s Cross as part of the ‘Malta takes London’ event.

We interact with teams on a daily basis either our own or suppliers and customers

People get frustrated with teams sometimes, wondering why they are doing what they are doing.

If i told you ALL teams follow a set process of development it may be easier for you to understand, know where your team is and what to expect and how to move forward quickly

stages are

  1. Forming

  2. Storming

  3. Norming

  4. Performing

How you move through these is key and you can slip back a stage if something changes.

So in this The Up and Coming Band Chasing deer

https://www.chasingdeer-official.com/about

Chasing Deer are an exciting and energetic pop/rock band from the Midlands - living, performing and writing music full time in London. Think The Beatles, Bowie and The Lumineers.

Following the release of their first EP, Rewriting History, they have been touring the UK and Europe with their music; performing headline shows at O2 Academy venues as well as supporting band such as UB40 and The Wonderstuff. Their original music features regularly on BBC Introducing and a number of commercial radio stations, including Warwickshire’s Touch FM.

Performing at least five times a week, Chasing Deer have built an ever-increasing following. Releasing weekly YouTube videos, the band constantly strive to engage with their fanbase and build on their progress.

Their latest release 'Moving On' was recorded live onto analogue tape at Factory Street Studios in Bradford. It features four original genre-spanning songs that aim to capture the atmosphere and raw energy of the band's live performance.

Released May 19th, it was greeted with a great media response and a sell-out launch night at Ealing's Red Rooms.
