You've done your work — therapy, books, coaching, and maybe even retreats. You can explain your patterns — your so-called "flaws" — in detail, trace them back to their origins, and name exactly what triggers them. And you still can't stop them when the pressure hits.
That's not a failure of effort. It's a gap that most personal growth work never reaches.
In this episode, I'm sharing why self-awareness alone won't create lasting change in your most frustrating behavioral patterns, and what actually will. The patterns that show up under real pressure, in conflict, in high-stakes moments, aren't stored in your logical mind. You can't reason with them, and you can't willpower your way past them. They respond to only one thing, and it's not more insight. It's a step I'd been doing but not acknowledged or named for years. And it is critical to moving from insight to real change.
You'll learn why the 20% that therapy and coaching don't reach requires this completely different move. How to recognize what your most stubborn pattern was actually protecting you from, and why that recognition changes everything. I'll also show you how one small experiment finally shifted a pattern two years of therapy hadn't touched.
Because lasting change doesn't come from understanding yourself better. It comes from giving the part of you still standing guard enough evidence that it's finally safe to put something down.

When you are a leader who operates with integrity, being blindsided by someone above you who is scared and reactive, taking it out on you, is one of the most disorienting experiences you can have. You didn't do anything wrong. And yet here you are, managing the fallout of someone else's emotional immaturity while trying to protect your reputation, relationships, and your own steadiness.
In this episode, I'm sharing exactly what to do when your boss loses it, and why how you respond in that moment will say more about your leadership than almost anything else. This isn't about becoming a pushover or swallowing what was unfair. But becoming the most emotionally evolved and grounded presence in the room, so you can move things forward.
You'll learn the three-step framework for how to deal with a reactive boss or colleague without matching their energy or sacrificing your standing; why emotionally mature leadership requires you to get curious about fear instead of defensive about facts; and how to set a new agreement that breaks the cycle so you're not back in the same conversation a month from now.
Because the world doesn't need more leaders who can endure difficult people. It needs leaders who know how to stay human and raise the standard when others have stopped trying.

When you are a person who carries a lot of responsibility, your attention is your most valuable asset, and it's also the first thing the world tries to take from you. You've learned to multitask, to stay available, to keep the tabs open. And because you're still producing, still delivering, still showing up, no one tells you what it's actually costing you.
In this episode, I'm sharing why presence is the foundation of your leadership, and the four-step HERE Framework that helps you reclaim it, in your most important conversations at work and at home. This isn't about slowing down or doing less. It's about learning to be fully in the moment you're actually in, so what you do there actually counts.
You'll learn why high achievers struggle most with presence and the nervous system science behind it; how to stop mental scatter without another productivity system; and what shifts in your relationships, leadership, and in you when you show up fully rather than partially.
Because your kids, spouse, and your team don't need you available at all hours. They need you to be completely present when you're with them. Learn how to return to what was once your superpower and get the advantage you may have lost.

When you're a high performer, you learn to endure. You adapt, take on more, carry a lot for others, and figure it out. And because nothing breaks, you keep going on momentum and autopilot. But there's a moment that quietly determines your next decade, one that doesn't look like failure or feel like a crisis. It's when the internal alignment between your life and who you are today has quietly expired, and you're still living by rules you wrote for yourself 20 years ago.
In this episode, I'm sharing why 'success drift' is far more dangerous than failure for high performers, and the strategic reset that helps you recalibrate before the cost gets higher. This isn't about fixing what's broken, but examining the gap between who you were when you started and who you've become, then updating the internal operating system that's running your life.
You'll learn how to recognize the subtle signs that you're drifting instead of intentionally leading, why great leaders pause early before misalignment becomes painful, and the questions that reveal what still fits and what no longer does. Because you don't need a new goal, you need a clear relationship with the life you're already living so you can assess what you're ready for today, not ten years ago.

When you're moving at full speed, it's easy to cross the finish line of one goal and immediately sprint toward the next. High performers do this constantly, accomplishing meaningful things, then dismissing them because they "should have happened sooner." But that pattern costs us more than we realize. We're discarding the very evidence that could accelerate everything we want in the year ahead.
In this episode, I'm sharing the Year-End Review. A four-step exercise that's been responsible for continual growth in my business, relationships, and leadership for over a decade. This isn't traditional goal-setting. It's about mining the gold from your own lived experience and discovering your personal success formula, the patterns that already work for you, and the ones that could be dropped for better results.
You'll learn how to celebrate your wins in a way that rewires your brain for more success, identify the themes driving your results, and build 2026 goals on a foundation of proven strategy rather than borrowed tactics and shiny objects.

When decision fatigue sets in, even the most capable leaders can find themselves circling the same questions, waiting for a sense of certainty that never seems to arrive. The mind calls it preparation and responsibility, but often it's hesitation in disguise.
In this episode, I share a 3-step practice that helps you identify and disassemble overthinking so you can take your next best action with clarity. These questions invite you to explore both possibility and practicality. It's only fair to consider a whole perspective. In doing so, you'll be enabled to shift from mental loops to meaningful action — especially when the decisions count.
You'll learn how to quiet the internal noise, rebalance doubt with perspective, and reconnect to the kind of courage that builds momentum and performance in leadership and in life.

I’ve got a big question for you today… one I’m betting no one’s asked you in a while:
What does success mean to you now?
Not the version you scribbled in a vision statement 20 years ago.
Not what your parents wanted.
Not the one culture that flashes at you with big vacations and busy calendars.
I’m talking about your definition. Right now. In this season.
With the life you actually have—not the one you’re still chasing.
Here’s why I’m asking…over the past few months, I’ve been having conversation after conversation—at dinner tables, over coffee, on coaching calls—with people from all walks of life who are wrestling with this very question.
People who’ve climbed their mountains.
Built the things. Launched the dreams. And still are unsure.
Sometimes, they even feel pressure to be more successful than they currently feel.
So I ask them: “What does success mean to you?”
Lately, I’ve been sitting at dinner tables, over coffee, and on coaching calls, with people of all walks of life who are wrestling with this one big question: What does success mean to you now? Not the definition you wrote in a vision statement two decades ago. Not the version you inherited from your family. Not what our culture flashes at you. I mean today, in this season, in your life as it is right now.
And here’s what I’ve been noticing: many of us have climbed mountains, launched dreams, built families and meaningful careers, but still feel uncertain. Still feel a pressure within to chase more. So, let’s pause. Let’s reevaluate. And let’s talk about what success really looks and feels like after the climb. In this episode, I’ll walk you through redefining success based on your current season, explain why it matters, discuss how it can change your life, and show you how to start today.

You’ve achieved everything you were supposed to: a successful career, a full family life, the ability to get things done. And yet, you find yourself asking… Why don’t I feel more satisfied? Why am I still not at peace?
In this deeply personal episode of Playing Full Out, I step away from the quick tips and high-performance tools to share the truths we often don’t talk about—the emotional toll of always being “on,” the subconscious fear of not being enough, and the secrets we keep even from ourselves in the name of success.
I’ll share:
Whether you're in leadership, parenting, caregiving—or all three—this episode is an invitation to look under the surface, be honest about what you’ve been carrying, and discover that peace isn’t earned... it’s uncovered.

Do you find yourself compulsively moved to action even when you want to rest? You promise yourself you’ll slow down after you get just one more thing knocked out. But then something else needs to be accomplished or fixed – and well aren’t you the person to do that?
For many of us today, the way we are approaching our life and work is dysregulating our performance and nervous systems. What worked for so long is now wreaking havoc and many don’t know how to pull out of it.
In this episode, I’m looking at the epidemic of hyper-functioning, especially among highly capable, high-achieving individuals. The ones who when you look at their early training and programming, not surprisingly, were raised to save the day, caretake, and handle the perceived threat as quickly as possible.
Today, I'm providing the tools to slow down and self-regulate those overstimulated nervous systems to ensure you are making your decisions consciously instead of compulsively. These are the same tools today’s greatest leaders are using to boost resourcefulness, avoid burnout, and enhance happiness and leadership.

Are you at a point where you're questioning everything about your life right now? Maybe you're feeling uncertain, like the ground beneath you is shifting, and nothing feels as stable as it once did. You thought life was headed in the right direction until it didn't.
Stop for a moment and listen to what your inner shakedown is trying to tell you. Because here's a liberating truth: that unsettling feeling is a sign, a call for change, an opportunity to step into something greater and redefine your next season of shakeup.
In this episode, I'm sharing what I call an "inner shakedown" moment I went through last summer, how it shook things up for me and sparked deep reflection. The thing about our life's unexpected curveballs is that while challenging, they often become powerful catalysts for growth. So, if you're in the midst of your own inner shakedown, or perhaps you've experienced one before. Whatever the case, I hope this sheds light on the purpose these moments serve in our lives and how we can navigate them with greater clarity and grace.

How do you engage in pressured situations while maintaining your best self? What do you do to manage and prevent stressful situations from negatively impacting your behavior?
In an ideal world, we don't feel pressure at all—we hold boundaries, disarm conflict, and let things roll off our back. But we know that's not reality all the time, right? We are complex creatures with emotions and past experiences that can trigger us. Whether it’s deadlines, difficult conversations with colleagues, or even complicated family matters — pressure is an unavoidable part of life.
Of course, being self-aware is the first and foremost way to decrease our reactivity. By examining what triggers us, shining a flashlight on our blindspots and peeling back the layers, we can unlock our best selves and our best levels of leadership.
BUT what do you do when the pressureful situation still strikes and you are knee-deep in it?
In this episode, I'll dive into how we can handle these moments in real-time without losing control and instead become models of the behavior we most want to see in our board rooms, classrooms, and family rooms.
Our mission is to help you become the best version of you so you can do the best work of your career while you enjoy more inner peace and freedom. We’re back with Part 2 of the incredibly insightful conversation with Leslie Neugent about The Enneagram! The Enneagram can greatly improve your leadership abilities and your relationships. I always say self-awareness is our greatest advantage and that is on full display in this conversation. As you realize more about yourself and those around you, you are able to easily approach all relationships with a new level of compassion.
I know first-hand—my family and I have been able to leverage this unique personal development tool, which I share more about in this episode. But what makes the Enneagram different, how does it work, and how does it improve our relationships? We’re covering all of that in this episode with Leslie. As we did last episode, we take a look at how our perception in childhood creates our motivations and coping mechanisms that we bring with us into adulthood (and our work).
Leslie is a friend and sought-after relationship consultant and Enneagram expert! I’m so excited to have her join me for this continuation of our in-depth conversation about the 9 Enneagram types, their superpowers (or gifts), as well as blindspots for each one to be aware of.
There is, in fact, so much detail Leslie shares with us that we divided the conversation into two episodes. Be sure to catch Part 1 of this enlightening interview!

You already know relationships are the foundation to a life well lived. Yet most of our relationships with our spouse, kids, siblings, parents, colleagues and clients are left wanting for something more. Since our relationships matter so much doesn’t it make sense that we become better at them?
[Enter the Enneagram.] The Enneagram can greatly improve your leadership and your relationships. I know first-hand—my family and I have been able to leverage this unique personal development tool to improve our family relationships. But what is the Enneagram, how does it work, and why does it matter? We’re covering all of that in this episode with highly sought after relationship consultant and enneagram expert, Leslie Neugent. And we begin the conversation with a peek into how our childhoods shape the adults we become and the coping mechanisms we develop.
Leslie is not only a friend, but she’s also a sought-after relationship consultant, Enneagram expert, and speaker! I’m so excited to have her join me for this in-depth conversation about the 9 Enneagram types, their superpowers (or gifts), as well as the blindspots of each. You’ll also learn how the Enneagram differs from other personality tools and why it's so popular for increasing self-awareness in family dynamics, team building, executive coaching, and marriages.
There is, in fact, so much detail Leslie shares with us that we divided the conversation into two episodes. Be sure to catch Part 2 of this enlightening episode by following the Playing Full Out Podcast and/or signing up at rita@ritahyland.com where we will notify you when Part 2 is released!

How can you stay motivated to achieve your goals—especially when you don’t feel like it? As entrepreneurs, team leaders, managers, bosses, and parents we have times when we lose motivation or lose track of the reason that we're doing what we're doing. Moments where—even though we might not want to admit it—we're just not feeling it. And while that feeling is totally fair, what can we do to change that?
This podcast episode was inspired by a great question from a listener in Texas! As the lines between personal and professional life get blurrier than they’ve ever been, it makes for a very confusing time. But today, I’m clearing things up! I’m sharing the importance of self-care (and what that actually means), how your family and business benefit from it, and practices you can implement immediately to maintain motivation! If you’re a high achiever with a desire to show up as 100% your best self each day—you’re not going to want to miss this episode.

Many of us are struggling with the pace of life and the drive to hustle to accomplish more. Often our drive has been a part of our career or financial success, but what happens when it never feels like we enjoy what we’ve created? Through the years I’ve worked with scores of leaders, parents, and high-achievers who—from the outside—seem to have it all. But when the curtain is peeled back, there’s a sense of never enough, not good enough, and deep dissatisfaction. They continue to chase the next accomplishment hoping that then they’ll finally feel fulfilled. But what is really at the root when it never happens?
In this episode, I’m sharing more of my story with not feeling worthy and the moment everything shifted. So many of you resonated with the earlier episode of wanting to work less without the worry. This episode is the answer to why we work so hard and the missing piece many at this point in life are yearning for. It’s my greatest hope you hear this and are able to acknowledge the missing piece in your life right now and determine if feelings of self-worth may be keeping you from it. Stay until the end for a tool you can use today to start shifting the false culturally trained belief that you have to hustle for your worth and how you can change your life when you learn how to cultivate yours!

Do you have a deep desire to work less but find it difficult to slow down despite how much you want to? Many of those in midlife with good careers and successful businesses are finding themselves exhausted today. They’ve hit their threshold where they know the pace is no longer sustainable. Working hard is coming at a cost to our kids and relationships, and more often than not – our health.
I understand. I’ve been there.
We can do all of the things we’re supposed to do: delegate more, hire more people, get better technology or a smarter time management system. Any of these ideas can work temporarily.
But what happens when you get the additional resources, or you finish the project, and you still find that you are missing other priorities because you are working too much? What’s really preventing us from slowing down?
The reason we can’t slow down has everything to do with understanding our motivations and the overused coping mechanisms we use when we are stressed.
It's not our fault we’ve gotten here, but it is our responsibility to change it.
It’s 100% possible to work less and worry less while you do. This episode will walk you through the steps you need to take to work less—without worrying the other shoe will drop when you do.
Our mission is to help you become unstoppable so you can do the best work of your career while you enjoy more inner peace and freedom. But there may be a better way and it’s backed by research. Shifting your energy in the opposite direction—up vs down—has been proven to be more effective.

External self-awareness is a vital leadership quality. Today's leaders must do more than bring forth the best ideas, strategies, or plans. They must be able to manage the energy of those they lead. This is a critical determining factor of whether or not people will actually follow you. If you want to be able to engage others, you must speak to a specific part of the brain. But you don’t have to figure this out on your own!
Today I’m showing you how to engage others, so your message lands. Talking to others in the way the brain feels safe, allows us to be hears so that we can positively influence others. Let’s face it, we all need others to fulfill our visions—we simply can’t do it alone. Use the tools and strategies I’m sharing today with colleagues, stakeholders, clients, friends, and even your children.

High-performing athletes are doing this right—it’s time the rest of us in other industries receive the benefits of incorporating a daily mindset management practice, too. Athletes know that managing their minds is as important as honing their skills which keeps them at an elite level. Mindset management is a practice they’re dedicated to and that the industry prioritizes. Leaders, executives, and parents alike can greatly benefit from a daily mindset management practice. Too many of us put extreme pressure on ourselves to perform extraordinarily every day but don’t train our minds to support those levels.
You wouldn’t build a house with a sand shovel and you shouldn’t expect extraordinary performance from yourself without harnessing the power of your thoughts. Today I am sharing one of my favorite mindset management practices that takes only 5 minutes. When you use it, you will navigate unexpected challenges, handle criticism, and manage problems with more ease.

Let’s face it. Life is full of a LOT of BIG emotions. And yet we’ve grown up in a culture which tends to encourage dismissing and compartmentalizing our uncomfortable feelings. To prevent ourselves from feeling certain feelings we often numb ourselves. We do this by drinking too much, medicating, overeating, and workaholism —- just to name a few. These are all signs that we may be resisting feelings that we’ve made impermissible to feel.
The problem is when we don’t tend to our feelings, they start to run us. We may make choices to avoid the feelings in ways that usually cause us more stress, wreck our relationships, inhibit our peace of mind as well as limit any chance of high performance. Today I share two practices (both of which can be done in under five minutes) to begin to release the valve that may be causing a pressure cooker — unknowingly — especially in our fast-driven life. When you practice what I am going to show you, you will find you’re not as triggered by situations, stress decreases and your peace of mind returns.

Have you ever reacted to a situation without thinking? That’s your subconscious at play. It makes roughly 90% of our daily decisions. After being attacked by two men in a parking lot in 2019, I found myself responding to objectively safe situations as if I was in danger. I became fascinated with the subconscious mind and its role in determining our behavior — before we even choose it. It was at that time that I also discovered hypnotherapy, a form of therapy that talks to the subconscious in a highly suggestible state. After trying hypnosis, I found it to be a remarkable way to support the dramatic change we want in our life but too often resist.
In this episode, I'm joined by hypnotherapist Christine Woods to discuss the modality, how it works, and how she's helping high-functioning individuals overcome undermining behavior patterns. She'll also share actionable steps you can start today to create deep change when your thoughts, feelings and desired behaviors don't align with the change you want to see at work or in your most important relationships.

To say we’re living in uncertain times is an understatement. For the last few years, we couldn’t even be sure what would happen 48 hours from now, and that uncertainty has done a number on us. As leaders, we have a responsibility to be a part of the solution.
In this episode, I'm discussing the three fundamentals every leader should apply in order to engage and empower cultures, teams, individuals, and even children in these times of uncertainty. I'll share why knowing how to lead in uncertain times is a skill we all need and a lesson I learned from my daughter to show how easy it is to unwittingly contribute to this uncertainty and insecurity without knowing it. Whether you’re a parent or a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, you don’t want to miss this episode.

How do you protect yourself when someone says or does something that triggers you? How are you most likely to respond?
When a part of us doesn’t feel like it can manage or navigate a solution, we employ a coping mechanism – often unknowingly – and these self-protection mechanisms may cause us much more pain than we can even imagine. We rely on behavior we have been conditioned to use to escape feelings we don’t want to feel.
Listen to this episode to learn how to respond with vulnerability versus reacting with vigilance and end the self-sabotage and self-betrayal you may or may not realize you’re a part of in your relationships.

In any relationship, there will be conflict. We may not want it, but it is inevitable. The problem is most of us were never taught a simple way to address conflict directly. As a result, most individuals, seasoned leaders included, retreat from candid conversations and straightforward communication instead of clearing their issues with others — both personal and professional.
That’s why in today’s episode, I’m going to walk you through a simple 7-part formula to address and resolve conflict in any relationship (whether in the boardroom or bedroom) so that you can clear your issues, resolve conflict and actually improve your relationships by addressing the unspoken and uncomfortable.

As leaders, we want to positively connect with, influence, and impact others. But, getting individuals to feel comfortable to engage with us isn’t always easy. There’s an evolutionary reason for this. If people are not sure of their situation, they will default to reading it as unsafe and retreat.
Whether it’s your direct report, your boss, or even your child, there’s something essential that you must know that precedes every good interaction: the other person must perceive you as safe to engage with. But, in a world where so many things are perceived as a threat, how do we not appear dangerous too?
In this episode, I’m sharing with you my simple 4-step S.A.F.E. process that the savviest managers and most effective leaders use that will drastically increase the quality of your engagements and allow others to not only feel safe but truly empowered by you.

Each of us has a limit – think an internal thermometer – for how much success we will allow ourselves to have. This is called your “upper limit” or your success comfort zone.
When you exceed this perceived limit, you unconsciously sabotage yourself and return to an old familiar place where you feel in control. But when you understand the concept of having an “upper limit,” you can truly learn how to overcome it and allow yourself the desired success in your business, your career, your relationships, and your overall life.
Tune in to this episode to learn how to spot your upper limit problem, recognize the self-sabotage when it happens, and get comfortable being uncomfortable so you can move closer to the career and life you say you want.

How do you manage getting everything done and still have a life of your own? The answer I have for you today may not be the one you expect.
This daily quest of “getting things done” and chasing work-life balance is always on my clients’ minds and it’s one that many of us struggle with. In this episode, I’m sharing the game-changing lesson I learned on a trip to Europe: sometimes we move too fast.
Society’s training leads us to believe we will feel good when we get it all done, but if we deny the reality that we’re never actually getting it all done, we are destined to be unsatisfied as long as we remain on this impossible quest.
Tune in to this episode to learn 4 techniques to stop being motivated solely to get it all done, to make better choices with your time, and reconfigure how you determine your worth.

To celebrate our 100th episode, I’m sharing a hot topic that I am passionate about and that I’ve never shared until today! It has to do with how we approach solving our problems, fixing our relationships, and advancing results.
I am bringing this up because our life is filled with problems to which we spend our days seeking solutions. All day long we seek to fix things — the economy, security, our children, our marriages, those we manage.
The reason so often we remain mired in our problems even when we have exceptional solutions is because of what happens BEFORE we seek to fix the problem. In other words, it has EVERYTHING to do with how we approach these problems for which we believe we have the answer.
As a leader, it is no longer enough anymore to simply ‘fix it’ or ‘get it done.’ It’s not enough to find and execute the ‘right’ solutions. It matters how we got there.
Do we create war or bad blood or bad sentiment or do we cultivate trust and peace in the process? It matters because an intelligent strategy is only effective when it is connected to a peaceful inner one. Otherwise, even the best solution will be unheard and dismissed.
This episode will reveal what your solutions are missing and what you must do BEFORE your best ideas are ever heard. I will show you how to implement the unique differentiator in problem solving and the anatomy of peace.
I’ll share a personal story along with the story of a Black man and KKK member, and a current Supreme Court Justice. You want to tune into this episode to learn how to be heard when presenting your exceptional solutions.
Our mission is to help you become unstoppable so you can do the best work of your career while you enjoy more inner peace and personal freedom. It happens to the best of us. We find ourselves impatient and frustrated that we’re not accomplishing or creating fast enough. Maybe it’s building your business, getting a colleague to accept your recommendation, or getting recognized for how hard you’re working. Release all of this noise because it’s holding you back.
Today, I want to introduce you to a game-changing tool that will help you boost your patience and energy for whatever masterpiece you currently are or want to build. This tool has been responsible for helping many left-brain dominant, high-performers get out of their own way and onto building the best work of their career. It’s also a great reminder that getting back to basics helps you gain the clarity and passion to ultimately succeed at the mission behind your work.

When was the last time you did something just because it delighted you? When was the last time you broke from your routine and were fully immersed in an activity for pure enjoyment? Or when you added a little absurdity into your day simply because it made you feel alive?
Doing something for the fun of it not because it serves some greater purpose may seem like a luxury to you today, but research confirms something quite different. Far from being frivolous, self-indulgent, irresponsible, or even selfish, having fun is actually ESSENTIAL to a life well played.
Unfortunately, in our uber goal-focused lives, as much as we crave activity for pure fun, we have a hard time giving ourselves permission to embrace it.
Today, I’m sharing with you a personal moment that reminded me not only that it was time to get my play on again regardless of what I had accomplished, but some of the science behind unleashing the power of fun in our lives. I’m also sharing with you my go-to 4-part blueprint (and challenge!). It’s a ritual I do at this time every year. When you do it you’ll ensure you don’t get to the end of summer and realize you missed out or denied yourself the fun that you need and silently crave.

Have you ever hesitated to make a key call in your business? Go for a heavier weight at the gym? Say “yes” to a great invitation? Or move forward in your most important work? Or big idea?
Today’s episode is perfect for you if you’ve noticed your attachment to certainty or getting it right may be slowing you down. Oftentimes, attempts to avoid situations that might be uncertain are unconsciously disguised as being busy, over preparing, or refining our work.
Ultimately, it becomes impossible to innovate, share controversial ideas or effect the change we want. The truth is fear can hold you back and limit you in every area of your life without you even knowing it.
That’s why today I’m sharing with you the one lesson I wish I knew years ago: no matter how accomplished, how much older, or how recognized you become, fear is going to accompany you. And the worst problem we can actually face is not knowing that it’s fear that’s holding us back.
Join me in this episode as I share the things I feared most, how surrendering to that fear led to my greatest experiences, and my favorite approach to acknowledge your fear and use your past to inform how to create your most satisfying and rewarding present and future.
The good news: You can change your relationship to fear and allow this to be the end of avoiding situations that might bring it. I am glad you’re here.

If you’re looking to bring more energy, freedom and meaning to your work and days, uncovering what you stand for may be what you need.
Do you ever have a day, when despite accomplishing a lot, you step back and question is this meaningful? Or you wonder what is the reason for all the effort and energy that you expend daily? Do you wonder if what you are doing matters? If so, you are not alone. The pursuit of goals alone can be very unsatisfying. The extrinsic rewards of money, achievement and admiration do not fill us.
If you want to guarantee that your days reflect what is most important to you, that your work is contributing to something beyond yourself, or you’re simply looking to reinvigorate your team, this episode is for you.
There is quite literally no better formula for bringing forth the genuine brave warrior in you and others, than knowing what you stand for. And in this episode I talk about a no-nonsense formula to uncover your stand, that thing that makes you courageous, how to distinguish it from a position, and what knowing your stand can do for your business and even your personal world. When you uncover your stand you will feel a surge of energy and freedom that many describe they’ve been missing over the past couple of years.
Today I’m giving you the tools you need to get clear on what you stand for and how to use that knowledge to guide all that you do.

If stress is a regular part of your business – you’re not alone. These techniques can help.
We live in a stress-filled world. Many accept stress as a regular part of their days. But over time, stress takes a major toll on our business, body and relationships. We aren’t built to constantly be in a state of fight or flight. Here’s the good news - we don’t have to be. You don’t have to start or end your day with debilitating feelings of stress as your norm. It’s no way to live, and it’s no way to lead. The first step is to realize that other people and situations are not the cause of your stress. Getting at the root-cause along with learning how to self-regulate when stress strikes is the key to more freedom, energy and peace than you’ve experienced before. In this episode, I share the techniques that will truly help you diminish the stress and the havoc it wreaks. Your personal and professional happiness and success relies on you understanding why your stress exists, not outlasting it.

When you are in crisis, do you immediately tighten your grip and take control of the situation? It’s very common for leaders to do just that. But what if I told you that we are called to do the opposite? What if, instead, you boldly loosen your grip and empower others to find a possible solution? It’s not always easy to relinquish control, but it is inevitable at work and in life. Our guest, Peter Docker, shares how to courageously hand over the reins, and empower others to step up and take action. Peter Docker teaches people how to navigate the challenge of leadership in any situation. His latest book, Leading from the Jumpseat, delivers the message that leadership is about lifting people up and giving them the space they need so that, when the time is right, they can take the lead.
I hope you love this interview as much as I did and take away some strategies on how you can lead yourself and others better in any situation. Can you identify one place where you feel irritation, resentment, or even a mild annoyance? This could be at home or in the workplace. Ask yourself if the exchange of energy, whether it be time, money, mental or emotional labor, is equal. If it’s not equal, ask yourself what would make it so. When too much energy is expended in one direction, for example, to a boss, client, team member, spouse or child, the energy exchange gets out of whack. This imbalance of energy is a result of boundary issues and is often the source of more unhappiness and unrest in relationships than most individuals are aware. If there’s anything I’ve learned over the past 15 months, it’s that I have spent too much of my life hurrying to get to the next place or do the next thing without even knowing why I felt such a sense of urgency. We have an underlying assumption in our culture that hurrying and hustling will take us to a happier place. So many of us hustle for no good reason other than it’s what we know. As a result, hurrying and creating a pace that is unsustainable has become a habit in our workplaces, communities, and homes. If diving back into your once hurried pace makes you anxious, then choose to re-enter differently. And if you didn’t experience a better balance between work and life this past year, now is your time to do it. It is possible to slow down the pace and still be productive, successful and impactful. The last 15 months provided evidence. So as the world begins to reopen its doors, I urge you to take a moment and consider the pace at which you wish to re-enter. How will your work life balance look? What will you choose? Push play to hear five strategies to guide you through re-entry on your own terms.

Do you ever feel like you have reached the traditional standard of success yet you STILL feel unsatisfied? Maybe you can’t put your finger on exactly why. There’s a reason for that. We are straddling two very different realities - one is our indoctrinated cultural self and the other is our true self. It’s very easy to get off path because we’re trained by society to do things in a specific way. We’re told to earn the next level of income, take on the next title, DO MORE. And we do it. However, along the way we forget our personal truth code. Now is the time to get back into alignment with ourselves, to course correct if we are off or to affirm we are headed in our own “right” direction. Today I have one question to help you navigate your way back to your center.

We live in a society that teaches us we have to accomplish and achieve in order to be worthy. It’s been drilled into our brains since we were children. Unfortunately, with our high-desire to excel, we often live our life with only a picture of the short-term. And we measure it based on culture’s metrics for success instead of our own. As a result we often see the unintended by-product of achievement in burn-out, stress, unhappiness, disconnection from kids, and divorce. But what if we had a defined life strategy that was guided and measured by our own metrics? How would we allocate our resources differently to span all of the “businesses” we lead? Today we’re taking a look at rethinking and redefining success and how to do it.

Have you ever gotten advice from someone you truly respected and knew it was not right for you? If you have, you know the feeling that comes with hearing the experts or the majority tell you one thing, but your gut tell you another. It can be daunting to follow your gut, especially when as a leader, big decisions are on the line and the stakes are high. But there’s also a hefty cost when you don’t.
Do you believe your gut when it talks? If you do, do you ignore it or act on it? It can appear easier to follow another’s recommendations when it comes to making decisions and taking action whether that’s in your career, business or life. But we know there’s a hefty cost that comes from doing so. Successful leaders today are using a different approach when it comes to making decisions. They listen and believe their gut when it talks, and courageously follow it even when it disrupts the status quo.

Years ago I sat in the recording studio of the Oprah show. I was asked a question that would forever change how I viewed relationships and my part in them. Too often “successful” people see doing as their path to meaning when really it is the deep human connection in our relationships that gives meaning and purpose. We are in charge of what kind of friend, spouse, parent, or leader we want to be. Think about a relationship that you are struggling with currently. What would it look like when it is at its best? Who would you need to be in the relationship to make that a reality? Today you’ll hear an essential practice that upends the old approach to cultivating relationships and that will clean up or enhance any relationship you want to upgrade. I’ll also share my 3-step Stop, Drop, and Listen method that can be used to increase your self-awareness and better your relationships immediately.

Rather than hide and deflect our wins, let’s be proud of them. Let’s talk about them freely and authentically. By doing so, we have an opportunity to inspire others to do the same.

Do you feel like you know what’s needed to put into motion the changes you want for your work or life, but there are others whose buy-in you need? Are things pretty good but in your sight line you know they could be GREAT if only a few external circumstances could line up? I’ve seen it a lot with talented, hard working and intelligent leaders who think they need “this before they can do that.” Where “that” is another person’s permission to make the change in order to have what they want. So what if that wasn’t true? What if what you’re missing in your world could be as simple as you giving yourself permission to experience it?
Now if giving yourself permission seems too simple to you, there’s a good chance you’re overcomplicating. It’s ok. A lot of talented, hard-working and intelligent leaders do. In today’s episode we’re taking a close look at why we wait for permission from others, why we don’t give it to ourselves and how to change that sooner than later.

You may overextend yourself because you believe it’s helping those around you. The truth is that when you self-sacrifice, you are actually self-sabotaging. Even worse, it’s selfish. If you’re feeling frustrated because you’re giving too much, it’s not your boss’ fault, or your partner’s fault, or your kid’s fault. Here’s the bottom line: self-sacrifice is a choice. This episode will explain how self-sacrifice holds great leaders back, and what to do about it so you can ACTUALLY create life-changing impact in your work, your life and those you serve.
