Hello all you lovely people out there in Internet land! Welcome to Animateys, a podcast hosted by two people (friends) who insist on taking beloved childhood cartoons and mercilessly evaluating them (i.e. over-complicating them)! As the name implies, our primary interest is in cartoons and animation, particularly those on networks like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon, the likes of which we both watched as kids. We re-watch a new cartoon each episode and discuss them in a laid-back style podcast with semi-regular episodes. In addition to general reviews and basic information about each show we watch we each bring a specific perspective to bear on the podcast. Paige focuses more on political and economic content and implications of each cartoon while Chris focuses his psychological knowledge to understand the implications of each cartoon, although we often cover both areas together. Tangents, jokes and puns, social commentary, popular culture, philosophy discussions of storytelling, and emotional rantings are also included! Oh, and Steven Universe. We invariably talk about Steven Universe almost every show (we just can't help it!)
We hope you enjoy what we put together for you and encourage you to follow us, comment, or join in on the discussion, and hopefully, to go back and re-watch some of these shows as well!
Episode Schedule: We try to put out an episode at the very least once a month, but our ideal schedule has episodes occurring bi-monthly. When we require 2 podcast episodes for one show, we often put out the 2nd episode one week from the date we record for the 1st episode. As you might expect, this means we are a bit sporadic in when we post, so just follow us to keep up to date. Episodes run from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes, with 1 hour being our ideal length.

Continuing into our sporadic dive into adult animation, we talk about an often forgotten gem of a Pre-9/11 world in the form of Home Movies. This episode also marks the beginning of discussions on people like Loren Bouchard of Bob's Burgers fame, voice actor greats like H. Hello all and welcome to season SIX of the Animateys podcast! We're calling this season "How To Adult - An Unadulterated View Of Adults Adulting While Viewing Adult Animation" or "Adult Animation" for a TLDR. Our show of choice is a nice, soft start with Bee and Puppycat, a show with a cult following and a nice connection to our other Pendalton Ward lineage classics like Adventure Time.

We review its inception, aesthetic and some different ideas present throughout. This weeks show is a bit shorter and slightly more tangential, but we hope you like it!
Fall is upon us, so we are getting in the spirit with some spooky fun! Over the Garden Wall is a beautiful miniseries that ran on Cartoon Network in 2014. We hope you love it as much as we did.
In the name of the moon we will punish you! We begin our occasional forays into anime with anime that 90's kids would have seen on TV. One of our earliest introductions of anime was the one and only Sailor Moon. This week is mostly an introduction to some issues in anime, the magical girl genre, and a plot rundown of Sailor Moon. Next week we will be discussing themes and other more content-related issues as opposed to plot or characters.

This is episode 2 of 2 episodes about this amazingly wholesome and bright show in which 3 anthropomorphized bears trounce around the Bay Area having fun and confront Korean Spas, homelessness, and the horrors of late stage capitalism. This week's episode deals more with themes, messages, critiques in the show, character interactions and themes, and the way in which the show is a mirror of modern life, good and bad. After a whole lot of time, we're back and we are VERY proud to bring you one of the greatest kids cartoons of all time: BATMAN! DA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA BATMAAAAAAAN. A staple of the early and mid 90's, Batman TAS paved the way for the DC animated universe to follow, and had a massive impact on nerds like me (Chris). Paige and I sit down and only begin to crack open the chocolate shell and reach the rich, gooey caramel that lies beneath the surface. Eco-terrorism, the politics of violence, Selena Kyle (<3), and so many lady doctors?! I only have one other thing to say: it takes too damn long to get to Barbra!
This week we begin our foray into the WB network's animated series with the Animaniacs, a sketch comedy cartoon in the vein of Loony Toons.
Both the name of a wonderful period of time in school and a TV show, Recess is up this week. Paige and I worked tirelessly on an Ocean's 11 style plan to bring you this episode full of weirdly sophisticated playground societies and other oddities this week.
This week we finish up with the amazing Gargoyles. As is appropriate for a Halloween spoopy episode, we spend a lot of time talking about our villains and the magical mythos that Gargoyles uses to create a great show!
Disney gives us many shows, but none so dark and magical as the original show Gargoyles. We hop into this multilayered and complex cartoon, all the while talking about how sexy the bi-con Elisa Maza was and the coolest villain name ever (XANATOS!)

We are proud to present the first episode centering on the Disney Channel original show The Proud Family. Our discussion this episode centers on setting the stage to understand the contributions the show gave to animated TV while also carefully examining just how certain aspects of the show advance problematic themes and behaviors. For example, why does this family hit each other so much?
Off hiatus and ready to bring back all the fun of cartoons with all the depth and wit we can muster. This week we speak about Courage the Cowardly Dog, why it's a great show even after all this time and why it still creeps us out.
We couldn't pack all the cute action into just one episode, so this week we return to Townsville, a place of perpetual danger, heroism, wanton destruction and bureaucratic incompetence. We focus on our Neutral and Good characters, chaotic they may be, this week since we mostly spoke about our villains last week.

Our topic of discussion this week is the massively fun superhero romp, The Powerpuff Girls, originally featured on Cartoon Network. We talk about villains, what constitutes "creepiness" and the sometimes questionable ethics of our child heroes.

After a busy couple of weeks Paige and Chris are back delivering the same enthusiasm and analysis you've come to find on our show. This week we finish up with our 3rd classic Nickelodeon show, Doug. We have a slightly longer episode this week, but we are only doing on show on Doug as, you will find, Doug is like the Moscato of cartoons.
This week Paige and Chris finish up talking about Hey Arnold! We discuss addiction, war, the tragedy of Miriam and just how much we still love Helga.
Paige and I sit down to discuss one of our new old favorite shows, Hey Arnold! We take a look at this character driven show and it's amazingly rich setting and cast. There are laughs, there are tears, and there is an amazing talented, mean girl we both love. Also, there are only 2 types of eyebrows: Uni-brow, or no brow.
Paige and I continue and finish our discussion of Rugrats.
