This should be the response of every believer when considering the imminent return of Christ.
If he did not want his children to understand it why did he write it? Would we dare say this about the book of Romans or Matthew? No. We understand Revelation the same way we understand every other book of the bible---with careful study of the word of God.
Imagine walking in the glory of God for the Glory of God forever. jesus promised it and John details it here. jesus has prepared a place for us!
We have all heard the phrase check yourself before you wreck yourself. This is what all believers need to do but so few actually do. In this podcast we hear about the great hope of heaven and also the great torment of the lake of fire. Is there anything more important than our eternal destination?
Satan is released for a bit only to be completely crushed in a moment and then thrown into the lake of fire forever. Not a close battle at all. Jesus WINS.
Jesus returns, wins the "battle", binds the devil and establishes His Kingdom on earth.
Hell is real and eternal. Jesus Christ himself made that very clear in His teachings. The revelation of Jesus to the Apostle John makes it crystal clear--- hell is real and wait for it....Jesus Christ sends people to Hell.
Since this is true what manner of life should we live?!
The point of our life is to point to Him and give Him glory. Heaven rejoices in this chapter because God has brought salvation and judged the evil.
THE COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE OF THE ANTICHRIST IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED IN THIS CHAPTER. I WANT TO MAKE SURE I AM LIVING FOR SOMETHING MORE THAN MONEY AND MATERIALISM.
This is all being done by God. Let's not forget that the enemy (although a serious foe for the believer) is a tool in the hand of God.
Sinners in the hands of an angry God would not be a popular message these days in our culture. Joel Osteen wont even mention sin when he talks about the cross! Only the truth in the word of God---thankfully.
The world is fine with a soft Jesus that loves everyone. But what do we do with the real Christ when He comes in power and bringing hell with him? We are used to the suffering servant but what about the sovereign judge? That is the next Jesus the word will see. Are you ready?

John joins in the vision of the party happening in heaven while God keeps saving people in the midst of the tribulation. Destroying and saving- that is our God.

In a culture of tolerance and acceptance the truth is hated. We are to speak the truth in love but the truth is we often only speak of love because we fear the consequences. Jude reminds the Church that Jesus is coming back to judge. Are we ready for that truth?
I have seen this throughout the Church over many years of following Christ; people chasing signs and wonders and so called prophetic "words". God has spoken to us through Christ and His Gospel and His word. Isn't that enough? Not for some. Jude warns us not to chase fads or the liars that promote them. No person has seen the face of God, been visited by Jesus or spent 90 minutes in heaven or hell and come back to talk about. Don't buy it. Do't swerve. Don't be led astray.
Jude makes clear the judgement of God is very real. This passage is serious and somber.
This is only controversial because most have not taken the time to really study the Word of God and what it teaches about His Election of us and our eternal security in Him. By His grace we have been saved and that NOT OF OURSELVES. Nothing good dwells in us and therefore salvation can't find it origin in us. This doctrine is the source of all peace and joy in Christ! It was also a doctrine understood by the apostles and taught from the start of the Church.
John has just honored one leader and now he is going to condemn another. He loves the truth and he loves the Church, so both must be done. This last portion of Third john is a beautiful picture of his passion and purity of leadership and his love of the people of God and the truth of God. Today's American Church barely has membership, not to mention church discipline. I have known people that wanted to go back to house churches but none of them I have known would submit to Church discipline like John advocates in this letter.
John loves the truth. In this third epistle he wants to encourage the church to support and be hospitable to those who teach the truth. In his second letter he warned of being hospitable to false teachers. In this letter he encourages us to be hospitable to true teachers. Great pastoral letter that keeps us safe from error and in the truth!
Some time it is hard to tell if we are in a Church service or an Amway meeting. True Bible teachers don't wander away from the scripture, from the Gospel or from Christ. Paul said he teaches not about himself but Christ Crucified. I hope you attend a church that sings the truth and hears the truth preached. Be careful--as John reminds us today.
People always claim "their truth". The truth is objective and outside of us. God is the ultimate Truth. Jesus said He is the truth. What is that truth and what does it do? Find out in this episode.
Uncertainty and fear fill our world. We long for assurance of peace and insurance against calamity. Yet, in the midst of all the turmoil so little thought is given to spiritual truth and salvation. In this episode John finishes his letter with a crescendo of truth and assurance that are given to every believer. What a relief and what joy has been given by Christ---the only redeemer!
In a world that crowds social media to give you their take on everything from racial justice to Oscar happenings--- it is refreshing to have the Apostle John give us God's opinion on the most important event ever. God's testimony is so far above ours. May we listen to Him and believe!
The bible idea of an overcomer is not like so many false teachers claim. This has to do with real victory over sin and the devil and entrance into heaven--weighty stuff. In this lesson we can judge ourselves to see if we actually are overcomers or not.
Our culture has a terrible idea of what love is. Terrible is not even an apt description. This passage is another of the Apostles tests of salvation. If you know God you love others. If you don't love others you don't know God. John's blunt and forthright approach is always refreshing. Brace yourself for conviction. Spoiler alert: you don't measure up. Fall on your face with me and ask God for His help in loving others.
Test the teaching and teacher. Use discernment. False teachers are everywhere today in the Church. Most Christians are totally oblivious to them. John teaches us how to test to see if the teacher is true or false. Dont be fooled by a fake.
We continue through this passage while looking for evidence of salvation in our own lives.
Be honest. You do it. You doubt. You doubt the most important aspect of your life. You, at times, doubt your salvation. John Gives us clear evidence that will prove a great assurance for our souls. We also talk about our conscience and its role in our lives. We can presume we are saved. We can assume we are saved. We can live in fear of not being saved. OR-- we can gain assurance through His word that His salvation has come to us.
John is so clear and stark in style. I love it! In a world of grey John is black and white. The issue is not of skin but sin. It is not the color of our skin but the color of our hearts before God. As Christians we give evidence to our salvation in a number of ways; the greatest way is LOVE.
Many will face Christ thinking they are saved and will be rejected. How do you know that you are saved. John gives us at least three ways in this episode. Hope you enjoy.
Hope gets the short end of the stick in my opinion. Underrated and overlooked and misunderstood. Yet, in the life of the believer Hope is the anchor of our soul and the source of our joy and perseverance. Jesus is our Hope. Heaven is our hope. So much to say about hope I had to use two episodes. Words are cheap. So many people claim to love Jesus-- but do they? If I walk in darkness and do whatever I want and don't really love people-- can I see any evidence of Christ in my life? John is writing to Christians and warning against false teachers. He is also giving us a good test of our own Christianity. We show evidence or a regeneration in obedience to the Father and love for Him and others. Do we pass the love test? Find out in this edition of Running the Race.
We will all be judged by a Holy God. He is just in all His judgements. We are sinners and He is not. He is the judge and we are not. He is just and we are not. Everyone stands guilty before God. BUT.......and this is the most significant but in all of human history--- we have an advocate in Jesus. Our attorney is the son of the judge. In this episode we get a very clear understanding of salvation and the payment paid by Christ on the Cross.
When we are saved Christ's righteousness is imputed to us. But wait, don't we still sin? Does sinning negate our salvation? John perfectly answers this question in this passage. We have a total cleansing from Jesus and a daily cleansing from Jesus. We will eventually be sinless. Justification means he sees us without sin. Sanctification means we sin less. Hope this teaching helps you not to sin. :)
I appreciate clarity. The word of God is clear! (Big Bible word is perspicuity.) John is also very clear. God is good and men are bad. God is light and men run for darkness because our deeds are evil. We are sinners in need of a savior. God saves sinner. This is so foundational to our salvation. This podcast takes some extra time to unpack this truth from John chapter one. This was so much fun to teach.
Nothing is more annoying than hearing someone talk about what they call, "their truth". People claim that they have their truth and you have yours; as if truth is created by each person on a whim. Truth is discovered and not created. Oh the arrogance of men to think they create it. Well, John is crystal clear about the truth and he finds it in a person; Jesus Christ. Such clarity is refreshing. Hope you enjoy some clear black and white in a world gone gray.
So excited to start a new book! We made it through first and second peter in just 31 episodes. lol. Now we get to start the book of 1st John. What a joy to enter into a new book and learn from another apostle. Im really looking forward to this study. Thanks for joining us!
We finish up 2 Peter 3:14-18 with a pastoral plea to grow in the Knowledge of Christ so as to not be duped by false teachers.

Jesus Christ is coming back! Are you ready? This is a study of 2 Peter 3:1-10 as we continue verse by verse through 2nd Peter.
They are after your money and in ministry for all the wrong reasons. They are deceptive and sneaky and always say just what you want to hear. They are flashy and worldly and arrogant but they use just enough scripture to trick you into thinking they are Godly. Peter calls them dogs and pigs that should be killed. Ouch. False teachers are all over the christian landscape today. To prove how deceptive they are; most Christians don't even know they are being lied to. They may pack out stadiums and fly in jet planes. Beware that not all success is from God. Beware of false teachers.
Who cares about my opinion?! I sure don't. We live in a culture that loves to post opinions on everything. No education required. As for me I would rather know what God thinks. That is what we find in His word. He has written a book and can find out what God thinks! Not something we hear much about; the judgement of God. Jesus came the first time to die for sinners. His second coming He will judge sinners. The same God of the Old Testament is the very same God of the new. Just because God has given us salvation through His son does not negate the fact that He will judge sinners. This is another heavy hitting episode thanks to the apostle Peter under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Can you handle the truth?
This is a rather straight forward and heavy hitting episode all about false teachers. I will name names. Ouch. We are warned by Jesus and the apostles over and over about false teachers. It is a topic we don't hear enough about today. TBN won't feature this kind of lesson. lol. I hope this helps you run the race with discernment.
Crazy people have been claiming they have a word from God for centuries. There is a more sure word-- the very word of God. In this episode you will be encouraged to stand firm in the word of God and His truth so that you will not be deceived by false teachers. We also talk a bunch about the second coming of Christ too. You don't need something new. You need to recall what you once knew. Our entire spiritual life is one of remembering and reminders. The Holy Spirit reminds us. The word of God reminds us. Peter will remind us too. He wants to stir us up and get us fully awake to God. You don't need a renewal as much as you need a reminder.
Assurance of salvation is so critical. Too many christians live in doubt and fear regarding their own salvation. In this episode we follow 2 Peter 1:5-11 to discover how we can have a full assurance of our salvation!
2 Peter 1:1-4 We start a new book this week in what I am calling "Season 2" of Running the Race. In this episode we learn where salvation comes from and what salvation is made of and how long salvation lasts. You will rest in the finished work of Christ and trust Him more for today and for your eternity as you gain a deeper knowledge of salvation.
1 Peter 5:5-14 Peter tells us how to get our mind right. He gives us 10 attitudes we need to have in order to live the victorious Christian life. Satan is not sovereign. He can't do whatever he wants in the life of the believer. We can resist him and Jesus has already defeated him. Stop wasting your time binding him and trying to cast him out. Instead, Stand Firm in the faith and he will flee.
We all learned during the year of covid that watching Church is not the same as attending Church. Watching school is not the same as attending. Watching my dad on the phone is not the same as being with him. In this episode we learn what Church leadership looks like and how much we all need the local church. Im praying for you. This letter that Peter has written is all about how to walk the path of suffering with total victory. The Christian life is filled with trials and Jesus promised us it would be so! How much suffering have you endured in your life? Seriously. I know this is not pleasant to think about but I want you to consider it.
Chances are you have endured some kind of abuse or betrayal. Physical issues that have lingered and won't go away. The loss of a loved one or multiple loved ones. Financial disappointments. The betrayal of someone close to you. Disease. Loss.
