Please note taking a summer sabbatical. This is a replay of episode 37, Discipleship and Discernment in Women's Ministry.
As I’ve spent time wrestling with the Lord about what to share and how to share on this topic, I came across these four words “developing a discerning heart.” My goal in this podcast episode is for us to continue to develop discerning hearts.
As mentors, Bible study leaders, and disciplers we have a responsibility to encourage the development of a discerning heart in those God has placed in our path.
I share my discernment process and advice for gracefully and prayerfully sharing concerns we may have with others.
Please note: You may want to pop your earbuds in for this episode. We’re not going to camp there, but I will share a little bit of content that you may not wish to explain to children who may be listening.
Quote: "Even when I’m fairly confident about my opinion, I ask the Lord to show me if I’m wrong. Though I can have some strong opinions, I’m not an expert on all topics. I don’t always get it right." Cyndee Ownbey

What are the benefits of Bible study homework?
Our discipleship series continues today as we tackle tough questions about Bible study homework.
Don't miss my 5 tips for encouraging women to complete their Bible study homework!
Quote: "Offer Bible studies that include homework that is meaningful and manageable. Women will lose patience over fill-in-the-blank homework or homework where the author hands the answer to them on a silver platter. Homework should be challenging, but not so challenging, that women who are new to studying God’s Word cannot answer any of the questions."

In today's podcast episode, I'm discussing the importance of Christian fellowship for women's spiritual growth.
Listen in as I read chapter 2 and chapter 6 of my book, Rethinking Fellowship: A Handbook for Hosting Meaningful Women's Ministry Events.
Don't miss the startling stats about biblical worldview - you may be shocked to know how few women in the church hold to a biblical worldview!
Quote: "Pinterest, social media, and the internet highlight the visual aspects of our women’s ministry events. Images we see as we search for women’s ministry ideas focus on tablescapes, beautiful buffets, photo booths, and stage décor. Rarely do we, or can we, see the biblical lessons taught and learned at women’s ministry fellowship, events, and activities. We’ve been duped into thinking women’s ministry events should be and are supposed to be visually appealing." - Cyndee Ownbey

I’m sharing my 3 secrets to building better leaders and stronger women’s ministry teams.
I recently had the opportunity to connect with someone I served with on the women’s ministry team at a previous church.
As we were catching up and swapping stories, I admitted that during part of the time that we served together on the women’s ministry team I was miserable. Though I love women’s ministry and loved the women in that church, I dreaded our women’s ministry team meetings...
How I wish we had taken intentional steps to build better leaders and a stronger women's ministry team!
It is possible and it's not really all that complicated.
Be sure to listen in to hear how you can build better leaders and a stronger women's ministry team.

Need some help planning your women's ministry Christmas event?
This episode is packed with creative Christmas event ideas for your women's ministry.
There’s a good chance your women’s ministry team does the same type of Christmas event year and after year. Maybe you host a dinner with hostesses decorating the tables, maybe you play games and eat a meal together, or maybe you do a gift or ornament exchange.
None of those are bad ideas, but perhaps it’s time to change things up a bit.
Consider these questions:
•Is your team running out of steam after restarting your women’s ministry post-covid?
•Could you reach women you haven’t in years past by doing something different?
•Could pressing pausing, even just for a year, allow your women to experience something new and fresh that would point their hearts to Christ this Christmas season?
•Does God want to do something new through your women and your team?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, I’ve got some ideas for you!
I pray as I share the following ideas with you that God will make His plans for your women clear.
Listen in to hear four creative event concepts (each one packed with specific ideas).

**What does the Bible say about women's ministry?
In this episode, we examine the biblical basis for women's ministry.**
Highlights:
The foundation of our women's ministry must be God's Word. Please note: An incorrect Scripture reference was given toward the end of the podcast. It is not Matthew 6:47-49, but Luke 6: 47-49. My apologies.Links from show:

Today we’re continuing our discipleship series by talking about caring for your Bible study, discipleship, and small group members.
Small groups should be a place where group members find comfort and feel cared for.
My favorite small groups have felt like family. They cared for my spiritual, physical, and emotional health. They’ve sent us texts when we’ve walked through a difficult season. They brought meals and sent cards when my dad died. They prayed for us through parenting struggles and physical sickness. They cared about us and for us.
In many churches, small groups or Bible study groups are the first responders to people in need.
We discuss:
And don't miss my tips for organizing meals!
This episode is packed with practical ideas and tips that will help you care for the needs of your Bible study, discipleship, and small group members.

Our discipleship series continues today with a discussion on coordinating childcare.
I’ve got a few ideas to help you with common childcare struggles including recruiting help and paying for childcare.
Is there going to be childcare? It’s a question I wish we could always answer with a resounding “yes!” However, if you’ve ever been tasked with coordinating childcare for your women’s Bible study or women’s ministry events, you know just how much work is required behind the scenes to provide childcare.
Maybe you’ve encountered some of these childcare issues:
Offering childcare can be complicated, but it’s a necessity for many of the women in your church - without it, they may not be able to attend your Bible study or event.Listen in or read the show notes for solutions to your childcare struggles.

Today we’re continuing our discipleship series with some helpful tips on collecting and sharing prayer requests in your discipleship, Bible study, or small group.
Many leaders have a love/hate relationship with prayer requests. We want to pray for the women in our group and love the way God uses prayer requests to knit our hearts together, but sometimes prayer requests lead to gossip or oversharing.
Maybe you’ve struggled to balance your Bible study discussion with a time for prayer requests. Maybe your group has a lot of needs or maybe you’ve got a group member or two that shares a lot of details with each prayer request.
Help is here! I’ve participated in and led numerous Bible studies over the years and have picked up some tips along the way that I hope will help...
Quote: What's shared in Bible study, stays in Bible study.
Scripture: Ephesians 6:18 NIV, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."

Today we’re tackling a hot-button topic – dividing women into groups for Bible study, retreats, and women’s ministry events.
I’ll take you step-by-step through the process I’ve used as well as share some ideas for working through any resistance.
If your team is strongly against dividing women into groups, I want to ask you to please listen with an open mind through this podcast episode. You may discover another perspective worth considering.
As a women’s ministry leader, you’ll have many opportunities to divide your women into groups.
Whether it’s for Bible study or a women’s ministry event, relationships blossom when women are seated in circles and not rows.
If left to select their own seats, women are most likely to sit with people they already know. Their table may be filled with other women in the same season of life, around the same age, or even from the same small group. It can be awkward and uncomfortable to sit with people we don’t know well or don’t know at all. But what if we’re missing out by always sitting with the same people?Quote: "If you’re on one of the many women’s ministry teams that’s been praying for a ministry that is truly multi-generational, assigning women to groups will help your women experience the blessings of sitting at a table with older and younger women."Listen in or read the transcript here for my process on dividing women into groups.

As I’ve spent time wrestling with the Lord about what to share and how to share on this topic, I came across these four words “developing a discerning heart.”
My goal in this podcast episode is for us to continue to develop discerning hearts.

How would you define discipleship?
The first in a series on discipleship, this podcast episode looks at what the Bible says about discipleship and offers several definitions of discipleship to consider.
You'll find links to all of the sources and verses cited in the podcast transcript available here.
Quote: "Titus 2 discipleship includes practical training and real life. The discipleship training that your church offers may not include practical training or an emphasis on doing life together. This is an area where we may be able to provide additional resources to strengthen the discipleship efforts in our church."
