I’m Isabella Hildtich and I’m Silma Berrada and this is The Dirty Studio, our episode of the VIS junior seminar podcast where we have complex conversations that’ll show you art for your ears. In our episode “The Stuff,” we talk about the meanings of materials to make sense of Petra Lange-Berndt’s words “To follow the material means to enter a true maze of meanings.” We’re leaning into the radical to focus on art-making processes and distinguish between the moments when materials become actors or agents; subjects ranging from hoarding, the prison complex, body to engineering processes.
