Forming a Techno & Electronica identity in Melbourne, Australia - Charles Oliver is not one to hold back on reconstructing Electronic Dance Music.
Through the incorporation of heavy industrial beats, glitchy abstract percussion, laced with evocative melodies, Oliver seeks to “break genres” in all of his music. As a strong advocate for "pushing music to its boundaries [whatever that boundary may be]", his eclectic style and dynamic production has turned heads from artists such as Jon Hopkins, Max Cooper, Laurent Garnier and Faithless.
With this approach, Charles Oliver brings an evident commitment to producing big dance records. From the cinematic atmosphere in Hivemind (Charles Oliver Remix), to the heart-pumping melodies in Invasion - Oliver's music is regularly supported across Australia's Triple J Radio and Kiss FM UK. From mixes and features with Mixmag, London Warehouse Events and Decoded Magazine, 2021 saw Oliver hitting #1 on Beatport's Techno Chart for his single Saturation Of Self.
His DJ sets, like his production, aim to create an almost 'spiritual healing' experience which he quotes "after a set I feel like I've just been through therapy, even if it's 6am in a dark flashy room". High energy, hypnotic progression and epic soundscapes are prominent during live sets, which has seen him showcase at many Australian Festivals including Rainbow Serpent, along with renowned nightclubs such as Revolver Upstairs.

Hellooo everyone :) It’s been a minute! I hope you’re all keeping happy and well, and I hope things are looking up these days with the pandemic slowly (and hopefully) becoming easier to deal with around everyday life.
Tune wise, I’m really excited to finally release my first single for 2022 titled - 'Street Fighter'.

The idea and influence for creating ‘Street Fighter’ came about during the political unrest from the pandemic alongside many other racial/social movements that affected everyone in vastly different ways. 'Street Fighter' really represents the power of the people, standing up for what they believe in during times of uncertainty, anxiety and conflict. The idea of the track doesn’t necessarily target any particular opinion or idea, but simply reimagines the feeling and process I felt society went through these past few years. And just like all music, take it all subjectively.

I'm excited to finally reveal my second official EP today, out now via all major digital outlets.
I really wanted to showcase a select body of work I felt boldly signifies my current sound. I've been honing in on a more industrial and cinematic sound aesthetic lately; something I feel shaped the overall mood of the EP.
The three tracks all sort of came to fruition in one hit during the middle of the pandemic in 2020. Despite it being a time where clubs weren't really operating, the EP definitely represents a longing desire for crunchy saturated drums banging out through a loud system.
The EP release reveals the third and final track 'Articulation'; this one hits a little more progressive and melodic, something I feel complements some of the harder, aggressive sonic elements I played with in 'SOS' and 'Invasion'.
It's honestly been a little strange making club music when everyone's sitting at home, though now with Australia's lockdown easing I'm really excited to hear these out, and hopefully across the globe once we all open up.

Grateful for the DJ support from Maceo Plex, Adriatique, HAAi, Henry Saiz, Tinlicker and Anthony Pappa.
'Invasion' stems from the idea of breaking genres. The track takes a little bit of every techno-influenced genre and invades its identity.
I love putting elements together that don't traditionally stick and try to make them work. The bassline defines this, as it initially sounds a little bouncy or boppy, though as it distorts and mutates over time it turns the track into something more heavy and driving.
I had a lot of fun experimenting with this concept of “genre invasion", as it strongly captures the sonic foundation of this EP.
I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did creating it.

I wanted to introduce a more refined style of dedicated club music I have been exploring over the past couple of years. The first single 'Saturation Of Self' touches on how complex and brutal in nature our subconscious obsessively modifies our identity; the repetitive thoughts that saturate our perspective versus our ability to diminish these thoughts in the midst of a rave. I wanted this track to be driving, heavy, and most importantly dance-floor-defined. I'm really excited to hear it through this type of environment when we get the opportunity....

My track 'Do Not Obey' is out now.
This one is a little more 'headphone' friendly, and not really on the techno/dance-floor spectrum. It's a really meaningful track to me as it represents a lot of the restraint and resistance felt when expressing ourselves. I made most of this track 4 years ago, though after the incredible intense year we all shared (2020) it felt right to justify it's purpose now. It's also the first track I recorded myself playing an acoustic drum kit live. An incredibly detailed piece of art catered the final expression of the track, designed by my friend Emma Pattenden - definitely check out her work, it is very unique & emotionally captivating.
