For generations, hymns have served as the heartbeat of the Church—woven into the fabric of worship, shaping our faith, and carrying the truths of Scripture through melody and verse. While contemporary praise songs stir our hearts, there is something special about the ageless hymns that have stood across from one voice to another like holy echoes of history. Like the Book of Psalms, these songs have guided worship from massive cathedrals to country 1-room churches, and family gatherings, by strengthening and sustaining believers in times of joy and grief. In the series, I Know Hymn, we will rediscover the deep theological truths and spiritual richness found in these classic hymns and explore how they still speak to us today.

The Bible is more than words on a page; it is the living, breathing voice of God and His words are meant to guide us, encourage us, and reveal truth in ways that transform our lives. Reading it is the first step, but true transformation happens when we understand it and allow its truth to take root in our hearts and illuminate our path. The Bible reminds us that God's Word is a Lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. In a world clouded with confusion, God’s Word shines bright, offering direction, wisdom, and comfort. But how do we move beyond reading and step into understanding? In this brief series, Lamp Unto My Feet, we’ll explore how to study the Bible, uncover its deeper meanings, and allow God’s truth to shape our lives.

Have you ever wondered if the promises of Jesus you’ve heard about could be real for you? In a world full of struggle and uncertainty, it’s natural to question whether His words still hold true today. As a kid, my favorite church song was the song Standing on the Promises. The big question is, “Can we stand and build our lives on the promises of God?"
In our sermon series, Standing on the Promises, we’ll explore the powerful, unchanging promises found in God’s Word. Through life’s highs and lows, His faithfulness remains faithful, offering hope, transformation, and confidence to all who trust in Him. Together, we will discover how these promises can guide us to live boldly, with an unwavering assurance that by the living Word of God, we shall prevail.

This Sunday is one of the biggest days in sports—the day of the Big Game! While many of us are excited about the football action, there's something else that grabs our attention just as much, if not more: the commercials. These brief but impactful advertisements have become a huge part of our Big Game experience. From Coca-Cola's iconic Mean Joe Greene throwing his jersey to a kid, to Budweiser's unforgettable Bud Bowl, the hilarious Wazzupp, the clever E-trade baby, and the ever-entertaining Doritos and Snickers ads, these commercials have left a lasting imprint on our culture and Monday morning water cooler talk.

Just like those blockbuster commercials, Jesus' parables were designed to capture attention, provoke thought, and leave a lasting impact on the listeners. In this week’s message, "Commercial Break XXV," we'll take a look at five memorable commercials and see what powerful lessons we can learn from them. Just as these commercials have left an indelible mark on our society, Jesus' parables have the power to transform our lives and draw us closer to God. So, let's take a break and explore the

Many of us are excited for the new year and its fresh start on January. We make resolutions for improving our lives. However, change is sometimes harder than it seems. The journey to change is difficult, and even our greatest intentions might fall short. Remember, we are not alone in this journey. Jesus gives us the strength to conquer our challenges. In Mark's Gospel we see the disciples at once left their nets and followed Jesus and accepted Jesus' invitation to change without hesitation. In the same way, we must also let go of our worries, concerns, and previous failures to follow Jesus and be ready At Once....
As we dive into the busyness of the Christmas season & the end of another year, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the clutter in our homes, hearts, and lives. Everywhere you turn, someone’s telling you how to live, what’s right or wrong, what’s real & what’s fake, what’s true and what’s false. These well-intentioned pieces of advice often seem right but miss the mark in ways that can hurt us and send us down a misguided path in life. How do we discern the truths that will lead to a meaningful life? During our five-week sermon series, Moment of Truth, we will explore how to identify and embrace the truths that truly guide us to a life of purpose, fulfillment, and God’s path. Let’s seek the wisdom that not only sounds good but also transforms our lives in profound ways.

Over the last few years I have thought about how the Old Testament people worshiped and how Disciples of the New Testament worshiped, and now how we as Christians/disciples of today worship. In my own reading and the Disciple classes I have been part of I have noticed that a lot of how God called Old Testament people to worship and now New Testament people is the same only different in some ways.

Several factors often shape these attitudes like beliefs, experiences, and choices. We will talk about how attitudes greatly affect our relationships and lives. Drawing inspiration from the Scriptures, we will talk about the wide range of human emotions and behaviors, from those that are easy to those that are challenging. We will discuss together how our beliefs and choices shape our attitudes and how those attitudes can help or hurt us. Join us this week at HCC as we learn how to develop Christ-like attitudes, overcome negative mindsets, and experience how gratitude, humility, and love can change the lives of People & Their Attitudes.

The Bible includes a lot of good advice for living. People quote their favorite Bible verses to encourage each other, but sometimes those verses are taken out of context. What happens when that message gets messed up and twisted? Over the next three weeks, we will cover three of the most misconstrued verses in the Bible as we get to know the background of the verses, what they really mean, and how to find the depth of God's message through them. Verse in this series include, "For I know the plans I have for you..." (Jeremiah 29:11); "Ask anything in my name..." (John 14:14); and "Do not judge, or you too will be judged..."(Matt 7:1-2).

It's easy to only skim the surface of the Bible in this fast-paced world where screens are full of knowledge and things to do abound. Literally reading the Bible is one thing, but really getting it is something else & it's truly life-changing when you can do both. God speaks to us through His Word and studying the Bible.
In this two week message series, Into the Word...Into Me, using the Book of Philemon we learn of our need and exactly how to study so that we can get into the Word and the Word can get into us.

Well, it's right up the road: this weekend is WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. As a sort of fun "tie-in," join HCC for this one-week message—Believe-A-Mania: Tag Team Champs—Salt & Light There may not be a direct link between this sermon and our own wants or preferences, and you may not feel a connection right away, but I am sure that if Jesus were here, He would choose this exact topic.
After Jesus rose from the dead, I thought about how eager those who followed him were to share their faith—it became a lifestyle. The heart of the Christian faith beats with the desire for evangelism [an urgent call to reach those far from God]. Jesus says in Luke 19 that He came into the world "to seek and save the lost." So, ring the bell, walk the aisle, lean in, lis
Picture it: the dusty streets of Jerusalem, the scent of fig leaves, & the buzz of anticipation as Jesus, rides a borrowed donkey hailed as both king & rebel. The Last Supper unfolds—feet washed, bread broken, wine shared. Sorrow drips from His brow in Gethsemane as He grapples to drink from the cup of suffering he must endure. A friend’s betrayal casts its shadow, the Sanhedrin convenes, the scourging embarks, & the cross looms large, its splintered wood against a bruised sky.
In A Couple of Days, One Week, we explore Jesus’ Passion Week & how it altered the course of humanity forever. This week contains raw emotions, heavenly purpose, & cosmic significance. It’s not just a history lesson, but an invitation as are not spectators, we are participants. Journeying through a couple of these days, we wrestle with doubt, embrace grace, face our own betrayals, & experience the weight of nails & Jesus’ words, “It is finished.” Yet, Sunday morning brings the victory of an empty tomb, a seismic shift that reverberates across time.
This Easter season, join us as this ancient story still pulses with life & freedom, all from A Couple of Days, One Week.

As we welcome the New Year of 2024, we may be tempted to make some resolutions to improve ourselves & our lives. But how many of us can honestly say that we have kept our resolutions in the past? How many of us gave up before they started? How many of us may still be haunted by the events of 2023, whether they were joyful or painful? The truth is the past is gone and we cannot change it. We can only learn from it and move forward. Instead of brief resolutions, let's make lasting spiritual New Year's Transformations. Let us transform our hearts, thoughts, & souls as Christ's love changes our relationships, communities, & larger world. Through New Year's Transformations let's truly transform our lives by the hope of the Spirit.

One of the greatest lines ever in movie history comes from Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Terminator, “I’ll be back!” When it comes to the Second Coming of Jesus, so many of us focus on the wrath of the Lord like he is coming back bringing wrath and destruction. We can get so focused on 666, and marks of beasts, and tribulations, and famines, and blood, terror, weeping and gnashing of teeth that scripture speaks of; yet, we miss out on the biggest part of it all: the overwhelming love of God.
In this 4-week series, “I’ll be back!” we are going to focus at the love of God for His people and how he tells us to “not let your hearts be troubled.” As a Christian/Christ-follower we can do just that, because you’re on the winning side. Join in this series as we can get excited that Jesus promises, “I’ll be back!”

He's saved us seats & he’s waiting on us & we have to be careful we are not sitting in the wrong seat. So what are you waiting for?

Church. Why do we have church? So many different styles, so many choices, so many preferences, so many differences. We talk about contemporary, traditional, evangelical, and tons of other descriptions. We often will look for something or someplace we can call, “my church.” Yet, in Matthew 16, Jesus told his disciples, “I will build my church.” I like that he didn’t say, “I will build the church.” When it comes to His church, Jesus takes it very personally. Christianity is not about Christians, it’s about the gathering of Christians. Christianity is a group of people, it is the church…the Body of Christ. Jesus says, “And I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against that church.” He loves his church. He takes it very, very personally. In this brief 2-week message series called “My Church…” we will look at 2 areas of what Jesus expects of His church.

For many believers, we have been taught to believe in the Bible and its teachings without questioning; however, there are times in life when doubts creep in and we find ourselves struggling with questions that we may have been too afraid to ask. In this series, I Doubt It, we will intentionally make room for those questions and doubts, exploring the idea of doubt in our faith; and why it is not only okay to question, but also important for our spiritual growth. We will look at biblical stories where doubt played a significant role, such as Thomas' doubt in the resurrection of Jesus. We will examine the reasons why we doubt, learn how to approach our doubts with grace and understanding all while exploring ways to move forward in faith, even when we still have questions, using our doubts as a catalyst for deeper relationship with God.

There exists a virtue that seems to be in short supply in our fast-paced world - patience. We live in an age where we want things done quickly and efficiently. We get impatient waiting in line, stuck in traffic, or for our prayers to be answered. However, patience is a crucial characteristic that is essential to our Christian walk. This week, our amazing Haven Youth will help remind us that God is just, and He will answer our prayers in His perfect time, which may not always align with our timeline.
We can all relate to wandering and feeling lost in life, whether it's due to our own choices or circumstances beyond our control. In the Lost & Pursued sermon series, we will take a four-week journey through the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin, & lost son in Luke 15. We will explore a different parable that Jesus tells & how it teaches us about the relentless pursuit of God’s love & grace. Through these weeks, we will see the heart of God & be reminded that He never gives up on us & is always seeking to bring us back to Him. This series culminating on Easter Sunday, will be a powerful reminder that no matter how lost we may be or feel, we are never beyond the reach of God's love & mercy.

Our Good Friday service is a reflective service that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. As Christians, we must remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and reflect on its significance for our own lives, with the hope of his resurrection bringing renewed faith.

Another year down, another one facing you. You may not like the person you are and you may be concerned about the person you may become. But what if becoming the person you want to be starts well before the moment you make a decision? Before you eat that, or before you yell at them, before you make that move, take that job, or react that way. The decisions to say I Have Pre-Decided... can help you live the life you really want if we look ahead and live by God’s ways.

In 2017, the Lord nudged Haven Church through the a church-wide study based on the book, Radical, by David Platt. In the study, it forced many of us to ask ourselves if we really lived out our faith in a safe way or live out Jesus radical call to faith. From there a group from the church took a mission trip to Haiti in August 2017 that forever impacted the ministry of Haven Church and those in Haiti we now part of the Haven Community Church family. From that point, God connected two communities in very different places and situations, and changed hearts, minds, communities of Haven Community Church and Haven Community Church Haiti. Join this week as we share God’s hand in the beginning up until now and how Haiti faces some of the most difficult, tumultuous times, right now.
This week we take time out to Thank God for 15 years in Ministry and existence as Haven Community Church. God has done exceedingly more than we ever thought or asked. Through portable church, pandemics, births, deaths, weddings, mission trips, weekly worship and all other things life brought our way, Haven Community Church as been a mean for God to do many amazing things. This week we will look back as we look forward to what God has done, is doing and will do through the people and overall call of Haven Community Church.

Names are so important. We spend so much time time picking the “perfect” name for children, pets, cars, etc. What’s in a name? Just about everything. When we learn someone’s name or even have nicknames it conveys that we learn who they really are, not just who we imagine them to be. The Christian life is not just about knowing about God but knowing Him - who He really is. In our series, Hello, My Name is God, we are going to take 7 weeks looking at just a few of the names of God, in order to know Him as He truly is through knowing His names.

In times of uncertainty, it’s easy for fear to spread; yet, it is all the more important than ever to trust who God is. When we see, understand and truly know Him, NOT about Him, we can embrace God's promises that we can live a “No Fear” life
In this series we’ll look several of the “BIG DOGS” in the Bible, and how they lived in amazing ways, did incredible things for God. What if, in our life’s race, we could do on lap around the track with one of these BIG DOGS of faith and what would they say to us that could keep us going.

We focus on it being a genre of a playlist, a type of song, a style of worship (contemporary and traditional). Jesus said that a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth. If that is what God desires, what does it mean to be a true worshiper?

In looking at the many things that Jesus is, he was an amazing teacher and people came from all over to hear Him speak. Jesus was not one who had a goal to make you “feel good.” No, he constantly challenged the status quo and confronted the power structures of his time. This was not only for those in his day, Jesus also challenges us today with teachings that seem to be opposite of the world we live in. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, Blessed are those who mourn…, Blessed are those who are persecuted.” They really don’t seem to even make sense in our culture. In this series we will look at one of His most famous teachings in all of history and Jesus’ longest recorded sermon: the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. Over the next several week we will focus on the Beatitudes talk about what it’s like to live “Right-side Up in an Upside Down.”

In three years, Jesus accomplished so much in such a short time; yet, he spent so much of it in prayer. Could it be that Jesus thinks about prayer differently than we do? Could it be that he places a higher priority in prayer than we do? The Disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray.
For many, it’s hard to pray. It's not easy. Sometimes you may feel foolish — there you are hands folded, eyes closed, even on your knees, and who are you even talking to? We don't really know what we should pray for. We don't know how to pray. We need Jesus Christ to teach us about prayer. The Lord invites us to pray . . . and even tells us how to do it!
The Lord’s Prayer is Jesus’ way of helping us with an intimate pattern of prayer for a lifetime in relationship with God and it was never meant to be a “special recited prayer.” In the message series, Living on the Prayer, we will journey through the Lord's Prayer along with church-wide small groups (the Prayer Course) we will learn to grow and deepen in our prayer lives.

By doing so each week, line by line, we will be looking at the foundation of our Christian beliefs, the core values of our faith, the historical turth of the Bible, & what it means, both for our lives today & the eternity to come.
As Christians, what do we honestly believe? What we believe in extremely important to everything we do. There’s a C.S. Lewis quote that says, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” In other words, what we believe in shapes everything else in our lives.

So often, do you ever feel like you need a fresh start. You realize what you have been doing, really isn’t working. Like always, you could continue to do what you’ve always done and choose what you want now over what you really desire.
As Jesus followers, what you must come to realize is there is something better waiting for you than what you usually settle for in life. However, when you stay focused on who God says you are and what He wants for your life without being distracted by the other things, that’s when we move toward and eventually come to the True Reward.

2021 is down; 2022 is getting started. Dare we begin to say, “Well, it’s gotta be better than next year.” New year after new year, so many of us try to we make resolutions, set milestones and goals. However, these are far too focused on ourselves, about losing weight, going back to school, getting a new job, saving money, and many more. As we look at this new year we rarely think of actions & practices that benefit others but exist in inherently self-centered practices. When we look at the life that the Lord has for us, we have to embrace seeking the good of others, even if at the expense of own comfort, no matter how difficult and uncomfortable it may be. But when you deny yourself, God can do so much more when you are Selfless.

Life. It rolls on with ups and downs; yet, for most of the journey, it’s normal and relatively calm. Then out of nowhere, BAM! Your world is shattered by an event, a loss, a fire, a natural disaster, financial ruin and so much more. All of a sudden, your life is in broken pieces and everything has changed. It’s bad enough if you’ve ever felt broken but it’s worse if you have to no clear reason for the suffering? In this 6-week series, Broken & Changed: Call Me Job, we are going to be honest and transparent as we learn from the life of Job and how we too can be restored. You know, Job’s story is so often our story. We may not know all the ‘whys’, but even in the midst of great hurt, we can trust in God of our creator and redeemer.
Hope you can join us this Friday at 7:00pm for our informal, family oriented Christmas Eve Service. There will be music, communion, a brief message everyone will enjoy as we celebrate the birth of Jesus!! Bring the kids, friends, and neighbors!!

They will drain your joy, take up all your time, and ultimately, they just seem to suck the life out of us. We know we’re supposed to love them, but if we are honest, sometimes it’s so difficult and most of the time it’s impossible. In this series, Relationship Vampires, we will acknowledge that we are often surrounded by people draining our energy, vitality, and the life out of us in a variety of ways. Instead of running from or fighting them off with stakes and garlic we will learn how God can use us to bring love into their lives.

I have heard it said that life is a series of choices. We tell our children to make “good choices” and avoid “bad choices” as they will stick with us a long time. Yet, sometimes when we make good decisions, live good lives, seek God, it feels like nothing is working. We can do all the right things, check all the boxes, but life seems to stay the same or even get worse. When what we do isn’t making a difference, how can we find the life we desire for? In this series, I Choose…A Better Way, we will look to do just that.

When we feel it is to be human & it is one of the unique ways we are distinct from the rest of creation is that we have the ability to feel a variety of different ways: joy, sadness, anger, compassion, fear and the list keeps on going. God has given each of us the capacity to feel deeply. A vast majority of us, love the good feelings; yet, don’t want to experience the bad feelings. In fact, we might even try to repress them. When we can better process our powerful emotions, we can start to understand how He will use them for His good. Bring your “feels” & I’ll bring mine in this new message series, My Emotions.

No matter what you may think, words are extremely powerful and influential. They can tear us down and build us up. They can cut and wound us; yet. they can also bring wholeness and healing. Sadly, words and attitudes like criticism, complaining, gossip, or lying aren’t just shrugged off, but are sometimes encouraged or even celebrated. They can destroy relationships and ultimately detached us from the life that God wants for us. However, the right words at the right time can be exactly what we need to hear—and definitely what we ought to say. Let’s find the right words in a new series, My BIG Mouth.

What are you afraid of? If you say “Nothing,” then you are in the minority of people in the USA. According to the National Institutes of Health research, more than 70% of Americans report having one or more “unreasonable” fears. Basically, so many people live their lives paralyzed by fear. In this series, kNOw Fear, we are going to address fears of failure, rejection, closeness, and fear of losing it. In 2 Timothy 1:7 we are told that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power.” With that truth in mind, and this series, we will experience the power of God to overcome these fears.
