In Part 6 of “Living and Giving the Gospel,” Matt Heard concludes his series by taking a deeper look at the beauty of not only sitting at the Gospel table with Jesus (living the Gospel), but also the privilege we have of inviting others to join us (giving the Gospel). Using the contrasting metaphors of a vending machine versus a dinner table, he encourages us to move from a transactional mindset when approaching God to a relational one, which shifts us from merely practicing religiosity to vibrantly pursuing a relationship with God. That, in turn, moves us from just urging people to adopt our religious practices to inviting them to join us as we pursue intimacy with Jesus and feast on the Good News at the Gospel table together. In Part 5 of “Living and Giving the Gospel,” Matt Heard unpacks what it looks like — as Paul exhorted Timothy — to “take hold of the eternal life to which you were called” (1 Timothy 6:12) and that eternal Life is what we all ultimately long for (John 4:13-14). While we will certainly experience eternal Life in heaven — no longer inhibited by a fallen world — eternal Life is not a synonym for heaven. To take hold of eternal Life means, on a daily basis, to be “alive” (“zoe” – the Life of God through His Spirit) and experience an intimate relationship with Jesus in the midst of every aspect of my journey. “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3).(05/31/2026)

The Gospel is about a Plot — a plot to redeem and restore a fallen planet, including us. As a result, the Gospel is an Invitation to be a part of the Story of Jesus by responding to His yearning for us, as His image-bearers, to be lovingly restored to the Life He originally intended when He created us.(05/17/2026)
Mother’s Day is a beautiful celebration, but it can also be a day filled with complicated emotions. In this Mother’s Day message, we are reminded that hope is not found in doing everything right, but in trusting the God who gives it freely. For many of us who grew up attending churches, we recall instructions we were given to believe certain things to be true, to perform particular rituals to demonstrate our obedience, and to abstain from specific sins. Not only has this pattern of believe / perform / abstain / repeat been prevalent in our generations, it dominated the Hebrew faith during Jesus' earthly ministry. Jesus taught a better way: love. In Mark 12, Jesus answered a question about the greatest commandment by quoting the commandments to love God and to love each other. While in the desert, God grabs Moses' attention in a bush that was burning but not burning up. In the resulting conversation with Moses, God tells Moses he will lead Abraham's descendants from slavery in Egypt into a land that God promised. A key verse in this story is Exodus 33:15, where Moses pleads with God, "If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here."Horizon West Church is approaching a similar challenge regarding a plan to build a permanent building on the property we bought last year. We, like Moses, need to commit ourselves to following God's leadership and listening for what God wants us to do.
