The Eminent Scholars Archive (ESA) is an expanding archive developed by the Squire Law Library at the University of Cambridge documenting the careers and achievements of eminent scholars associated with the Faculty of Law at the University.
On 8-9 May 2015 the Cambridge Journal of International and Comparative Law hosted it's 4th Annual Conference, entitled "Developing Democracy: Conversations on Democratic Governance in International, European and Comparative Law".
The opening keynote was delivered by Dame Rosalyn Higgins DBE QC (President of the International Court of Justice 2006–2009) and was entitled 'Democracy and International Law'. Dame Rosalyn is introduced by Professor Marc Weller, Director of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law.
The conference was kindly supported by the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law (LCIL), the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS), Hart Publishing, the Cambridge Law Journal, Cambridge University Press and the Whewell Fund.

Professor Gerald Postema was the Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professor in Legal Science for 2013-2014. He was interviewed initially in January 2014 in the Squire Law Library, while the present interview was held on June 30th 2014. Professor Postema looks back favourably over his teaching activities while in the Goodhart Chair. He also speaks of his researches into the papers of Sir Matthew Hale, on which he bases part of his Boutwood Lecture at Corpus Christi college. In particular, he elaborates on Hale’s interesting concept of Potestas Irritans, and how his research on Hale led him to the works of the 17th century Spanish legal philosopher Francisco Suárez. Professor Postema also gives some details of new insights into his long standing research into the writings and ideas of Jeremy Bentham.

Previous subjects have included UN peacekeeping operations, the advisory jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, the crime of aggression, whaling, children and military tribunals, and theories and practices for proving individual responsibility criminal responsibility for genocide and crimes against humanity.
This lecture, entitled 'The True Nature of International Law', was delivered at the Lauterpacht Centre on Friday 8 March 2013 by Professor Philip Allott, Emeritus Professor of International Public Law, University of Cambridge and chaired by Dr Sarah Nouwen.

Professor Kurt Lipstein taught for many years on the English Legal Methods course, and on 17 July 2006 gave his last lecture on that course, and of his long and fruitful career. This is a recording of that lecture.
