Roy White is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He is a 2021 NY State Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. He played his entire career in Major League Baseball as an outfielder for the New York Yankees between 1965 and 1979. With the Yankees, he won two championships in 1977 and '78, both over his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers. Roy White started the Roy White Foundation which provides financial assistance to young adults and children whose desire to further their education is inhibited by financial complications. The foundations mission is to help these individuals pursue their dreams and aspirations by easing the frustrating burden of monetary obligations.

This is part 1 with our guest this week, Jim Leyritz is an American former professional baseball catcher and infielder. In his 11-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career, Leyritz played for the New York Yankees, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers. With the Yankees, Leyritz was a member of the 1996 and 1999 World Series championships, both over the Atlanta Braves, and gained recognition as one of the best postseason hitters in baseball history during the decade.

Ray has quite the story on how he became part of the Yankees organization. As a teenager he was caught spray painting a wall in Yankee Stadium by none other than Yankees owner George Steinbrenner himself. This week I talk with Gary Weitzin, Executive Director of POAC Autism Services. POAC Autism Services, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is making a difference today for every child with autism in our state. Each year they provide hundreds of events for the autism community including: training for parents and educators; recreational and support services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families; and training for police and first responders which is saving the lives of children with autism throughout the state. POAC funded the first statewide program for the early detection of and intervention for children with autism. They address, support, and promote legislative issues that affect those with autism and their families. Additionally, POAC sits on the NJ Governor’s Council on Autism and together they have supported and directed millions of research dollars.

Jim Dowd is an American former professional ice hockey center who played 17 seasons and 700 games in the National Hockey League. Dowd, who won the 1995 Stanley Cup with his hometown New Jersey Devils scored the game winning goal in the second game of the Stanley Cup Finals. Jim was the first New Jersey native to play for the New Jersey Devils and second New Jersey high school hockey player to make it to the NHL.
