One of the best parts of this podcast is that I get to help introduce people to the talented people I know in YEG. I had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend, Gerald Pagdato to hear about how he went from being and engineer and owning a booming construction company, to needing to walk away and finding himself looking for a new path.

He began teaching himself all things media and joined a production company, which is where I met him on some weird web series. He learned a lot in his three years at that company and needed to walk away, which is when he branched out on his own about a year ago.

He is is the beginning of his journey, but we get to have an honest discussion about the ups and downs that come with the first few years in business.   Check out Inumin Media for all of your social media management needs and for video production. Gerald is a great guy with great vision and helpful strategies to help any business gain an edge.

It was an absolute pleasure for me to sit down with Jamie Salé. She is an Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, Canadian Icon and so much more…

With all of her passion, her drive, her enthusiasm and her love of helping people, it was only natural that she passes along her knowledge to others who want to be their best self. She is now a Certified Motivational Coach.

I took so much from this conversation and it was such an honour for me to spend some time hearing a little bit more of her story and getting to know what drives a true champion.

A fantastic story about a regular guy who saw his Jerry Maguire moment and took it.

I met Matt on the Edmonton comedy scene about 10-years ago and we lost touch for a few years when one day he asked me to come by his shop. In 2015, he started his own Solar Distribution Company and he has since sold that company.

It's a common story I have found with a lot of the people I have interviewed. They got involved in an industry they liked and took a risk when they saw a moment and decided they could do it just as well, or better on their own.

Stand-up comedians are an interesting and intriguing breed that have one of the most challenging and interesting careers out of anyone I have ever met. Every comedian understands what the day in a life of a comedian looks like, but most people could never really get how brutal it all usually is.

Haha, sometimes there are fun parts.

I had a lot of fun sitting down with a really good friend of mine, who just so happens to be one of the best comedians in Canada, and in my opinion, the world. His name is Sean Lecomber and he is an absolute beauty. As good as he is at comedy, he is even funnier in person and is a very interesting, brilliant and humble man.

He talks about his career, from starting 18-years ago, until today. His highlights and more of his lowlights, because they are the funniest parts. We share some war stories and just have a fun conversation about what it's like to be a Professional Stand-up Comedian, so others can maybe understand the guy or girl they're watching on stage at a club or performing at their Christmas Party.

Check out some of his comedy. Here's a link to his Gala show at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.

I had the luxury of sitting down and talking to Ross Wady (Founder of All Glass Parts) for 80-minutes.

Ross came from humble beginnings and started his own glass shop in the late 70's. We talk about his early struggles to building a great business that learned from its early mistakes. How he decided to modify his business model and sell off one arm of his company. To finally discussing his succession plan and the sale of his company to his two sons.

If you are a business owner and want to learn from a man who has 40-years of experience and has experience dealing with all the life-cycles of a business, this is a great learning experience. It was an absolute pleasure and I am lucky to have had the chance to talk to him and take up some of his time.

Giselle is one of Edmonton’s premier artists for a reason. Her art is absolutely beautiful and speaks for itself, but she has worked very hard for the last 16 years to build her brand. It becomes clear while we are having the conversation, why she has been so successful and that’s because she has combined her passion, her talent, her drive, her hard work and her business savvy mindset into a winning formula.

She takes risks and built a niche to separate herself from other artists. This is a very fun conversation with a very wonderful person who I am grateful to have had a chance to get to know better.

You can check out her work on Instagram @giselledenisfineart. There is also a link to RSVP to her next Studio Show on Saturday November 23, 2019.

For anyone that knows me, I have a passion for woodworking as a hobby on the side, which is why I had so much fun doing this episode. If I wasn’t a Financial Planner, I would love to have a small business similar to the one Landon Schedler has.

He has an awesome woodworking shop downtown and builds some incredible things with his partner and staff.

He started this business in his apartment in Oliver and has turned it into a real business where he builds furniture and also finishes a lot of the coolest and trendiest restaurants in Edmonton.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my very outgoing friend Olivia Pilip. She talked to me about her career so far. From being a hard-working employee to choosing to start her own event planning business while she was pregnant and had a newborn at home. Not something I would recommend, but it worked for her.

She explains how she got a job working in close proximity with the Edmonton Oilers. How she generates business and goes about her process to make great events for her clients.

We also talk about how she helped me not die when we ran a Spartan race and my role in a movie.

If you have a skill and have ever thought about doing that as a business owner, rather than working for the man, this is a great listen.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with a brilliant man who runs a world-class company. Stephen Moore went from working on a line for a small, start-up plastics manufacturing company, to becoming the President of that same company 13-years later.

He runs a very impressive business and along with his partners and staff, has turned it into a very productive and profitable company. The operation they run is beyond impressive.

These are the kind of success stories I love to hear.

David Husereau is an incredible chef and a very successful entrepreneur. He has done too many things for me to even mention or for us to cover in one hour, but we had a very fun conversation about his journey over a few beers in his awesome new restaurant, The Writer's Room.

Huse is, among other things:

A comedian, an amazing chef behind (Tekarra in Jasper, The Wood Buffalo Brewing Company, some restaurant in Maui, Crazy Dave's in Jasper and others), a real estate investor, a partner in Movilume (we didn't talk about this), a creative mastermind and one hell of a handsome dude.

He tells the story of how he went from making $1,000/week in the restaurant business 35 years ago when he was 15, to where he is now and his plans for the future.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my new friend, Nathan McLaughlin.

Nathan is one third of the ownership group behind three great restaurants in Edmonton, The Next Act Pub, MEAT and Pip (there's a 4th owner of Pip).

Nathan is one of the most talented chefs in Edmonton, which has helped make a winning formula for the "three dips," when it comes to opening a successful restaurant. It doesn't hurt that they are all great friends and wonderful people.

He was kind enough to share his story with me about how he went from a chef who was struggling with debt and his place in the industry, to become a very successful restauranteur in Edmonton. He's also a huge Oilers fan.

Go check out all three of their restaurants on 104th street, just North of Whyte Avenue. You won't be disappointed.

Jessica Culo has been killing it in YEG business since she was a young woman right out of college. Her 15+ years of experience with B2B Marketing, running a business in a volatile market, passion for being an entrepreneur and great advice for employees and employers alike, make this a great listen. And if that doesn't help, I was hungover and in a silly mood when we talked, so that's kind of weird.

I sat down with one of my oldest friends in the world, Jason Ritchie, to discuss how he got into the hair business and then opened one of the coolest hair salons and barbershops in Edmonton.

We then discussed how he created his own product line, Prairie Boys Supply Co.

Jason is a marketing genius and a great guy.

In Part 2, Jay talks about how they leveraged their sports blog into building a restaurant chain and started to develop in Edmonton's beautiful river valley.

In part 1 of this interview with my good buddy, Jay Downton, I learn the story of how him and his business partner Clark turned a little sports blog into a media company and lifestyle brand.

In part 2, we will discuss how they're growing Oodle Noodle and their new and most ambitious project, The River Valley Company.

Lastly, when I listened to it, I thought it sounded rude when I said it was a "joke site," like it was a joke. I meant parody site.

Want to hear the awesome story about how my best friend went from being the skinniest guy to ever work on the drilling rigs to becoming the President of Aircom Instrumentation?

I am so pleased to share the story of my friend's success. I am so proud of him and what he has accomplished and look forward to what the future has in store for him.
