Let’s look at breaking even and how it will influence how you decide your pricing. If you haven’t already, go back and listen to the Money Money Money episode, which will help you start to understand your figures.

And don’t forget to download the free worksheet for this episode in the show notes.

Many people skip the very, very important step of thinking about how much you actually need to earn to survive, how much you need to earn to live well, and what you're actually charging. Those are obviously connected. It doesn't matter if you've got a business that doesn't bring in enough to pay your mortgage. If it's going to give you more stress and anxiety than having a paid job with a regular income, then you might as well stay employed and working for someone else, right? To have that guaranteed security?

So today I want to talk to you about how these all are linked and how you can start working them out and thinking about them.

This is my first interview on this podcast and I'm so happy it's with my friend and owner of my absolute favorite store, Tracey Pretty. We're going to be discussing what it means to be an empath entrepreneur.

Tracey recently opened her boutique Miss Pretty on Church Street in Twickenham and we bonded over her gorgeous jewellery, candles and other items in her shop, as well as the fact that she's going through the process of acknowledging that she is an empath and what that means for her life and her business.

SUMMARY OF TIPS:

  1. First of all, you're not alone.
  2. If you are an empath, just accept it.
  3. Then learn how to combat the downsides and enjoy the positives.
  4. And listen to yourself.

There is a difference between working ON your business and IN your business.

Working IN your business involves the actual work for your client and all the stuff around that, invoicing etc.

Working ON your business is all the stuff that does not directly bring in money or isn’t directly for a client but needs to be done. This is the strategy part, the social media and website content, the money days, the promotion planning, etc

So my tips today are going to be different days or part-days I think you might want to consider blocking off in your diary every month to keep the customers coming in, to keep your accounts in the black and to keep your sanity in check.

TIPS SUMMARY

  1. Schedule content planning days
  2. Schedule money days
  3. Schedule promo and launches days
  4. Schedule self-care days

Bonus: Schedule any other days for tasks that you can batch together

One thing many people these days struggle with is stress, and effectively combating it with self-care. Entrepreneurs, business owners, freelancers, etc are especially guilty of this.

And what is easy to forget is that self care is NOT A LUXURY. It is a necessity. It needs to be a priority.

IN SUMMARY

  1. Self-care is a priority, not a luxury. Schedule it in as such.
  2. Free writing is a great tool for helping you get to the bottom of what’s troubling you.
  3. Complete your self-care toolkit worksheet and keep it handy.

One of the things that crops up time and time again with entrepreneurs is Impostor Syndrome.

This is the persistent belief that we do not deserve the successes that we achieve or that our skills and products aren't worth the money that we're asking for them. It's a belief that we don't know as much as we think we do.

Who are we to call ourselves experts and charge for our knowledge, et cetera, et cetera. Sound familiar?

Diagram of Impostor Syndrome.

TIPS SUMMARY:

  1. Remember everyone gets Impostor Syndrome. Even people you wouldn't ever, ever in a million years expect to have it.
  2. Identify it, name it and find ways to combat it.
  3. Remember that you have gone through so much worse than this.
