The Kingdom at Hand podcast seeks to understand the truths of Christianity, as revealed by the Holy scripture, with a strong emphasis on application in daily life. Our purpose is to create disciples of Jesus, baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Judges 2:16-18 "Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the LORD, and they did not do so. Whenever the LORD raised up judges for them, the LORD was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. Judges 1:11–21 (ESV) 11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher. 12 And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter for a wife.” 13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife. 14 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 15 She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
16 And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people. 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath and devoted it to destruction. So the name of the city was called Hormah. 18 Judah also captured Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.
19 And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain because they had chariots of iron. 20 And Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said. And he drove out from it the three sons of Anak. 21 But the people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

1:1 After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel inquired of the LORD, “Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?” 1:2 The LORD said, “Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand.” 1:3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites. And I likewise will go with you into the territory allotted to you.” So Simeon went with him. 1:4 Then Judah went up and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they defeated 10,000 of them at Bezek. 1:5 They found Adoni-bezek at Bezek and fought against him and defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites. 1:6 Adoni-bezek fled, but they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thumbs and his big toes. 1:7 And Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and their big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table. As I have done, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

- As we study story we have to remember that we aren't the primary audience but that we are a secondary audience.
- As we study we Observe, Interpret and Apply the scriptures.
- We don't know for sure who the author of Judges is but Jewish tradition puts it on Samuel. It seems that the purpose was to explain how Israel became so ungodly and this was done by recounting the stories of local leaders and how God worked through them. This wasn't written to provide a chronology.

Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

In this Sermon we look at patterns and try to discern the pattern that Jesus gave us when He loved the Church.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. (Romans 1:18 ESV)
It is important to think of submission in our culture in terms of subordination. It isn't a breaking of the will but a surrender of authority to another person.
Ephesians 5:17-20 1. What should be my goal in life? 2. What is foolishness and how do we understand "debauchery?" The Greek word translated into "debauchery" is "Asotia" and means "Behavior which shows a lack of concern or thought for the consequences of an action" according to the "Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains" by Eugene Nida and Johannes Louw. 3. What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

In Greek this word that the NIV translates "Power" can also be translated "Authority". If this use of "power" is new to you then replace it with the word "authority" in your mind.

This application came to me as I was reading John 16:19-20 NIV "Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy."
