Stewardship can seem like a catch-all when it comes to time management, our bodies, etc. Today you will hear how I break down this skill of stewardship, what it truly means, and how it's a gift we can use in our health journeys.

We talk about:

  • How stewardship is the skill and ability to choose better
  • Stewardship doesn't have to be this scary thing - it's in fact something that gives us more freedom and allows us to think clearly and make choices that let us live in the present moment with the Lord and our families
  • Galatians 6:9-10
  • 3 Habits to help integrate the skill of choosing better and stewarding our bodies well:
    • Action 1: Establish criteria for better
      • Habit of asking yourself: "How can I make this choice a little bit better right now?"
    • Action 2: Add in more good
      • Habit: Add more higher quality proteins
      • Habit: Choosing higher quality vegetables
      • Habit: Choosing higher quality carbs
      • Habit: Choosing higher quality fats
      • Habit: Have a grocery budget
      • Habit: Don't go to the grocery store hungry
    • Habit 3: Eat less processed foods
      • Habit: Make healthy substitutions
      • Habit: Think of your health and fitness as a continuum
      • Habit: Notice your own behavior patterns

We have Jenn, the Kingdom Lifestyle Coach back on the podcast today talking about a vey much needed and deep topic of what it looks like to commit well in an overcommitted and stressed out culture. This episode is SO life-giving. Really take a good listen to this, and save it so you can refer back to it when you need encouragement on your busy journey.

On this episode she works through:

  • What it means to be curious with your mindset and fleshing out what time management looks like
  • How most women are living from a place of lack or scarcity mindset - which is an enemy tactic
  • BIG TAKEAWAY STATEMENT: "The enemy is always working to make us want what we already have"
  • The reality that we actually DO have enough time in a day
  • How commitment and "I don't have enough time" run hand in hand
  • What to do when you make great plans, but your follow through isn't consistent
  • How you may accidentally be training your brain that you aren't trustworthy (it's a thing ya'll!)
  • When our brains feel we are untrustworthy how that can lead to the scarcity mindset which leaves us in this cycle of "not having enough time"
  • What it means to be Holy Spirit led
  • How to get out of the chaotic cycle of your brain believing you don't steward your time well
  • Examples of what starting small may mean for someone
  • How to reframe things in our brain
  • A christian perspective of the phrase "I can't pour from an empty cup"
  • How overwhelm feels so real and how decision fatigue has a lot to do with that
  • Asking yourself: what has God called me to big picture AND in this season? What are my personal God Given priorities? What is my pace?
  • "Do less, but do it with excellence"
  • What is happening with our kids when we raise them always the go and raising them to compete with our level of busyness and giving our home it's rightful place in raising our children and not overcommitting
  • Living from a place of already accepted, loved, approved and with abundance

In today's episode we have Kingdom Lifestyle Coach, Jennifer Louise, on to get to know her. As a former nurse, she left her surgical nursing career because instead of seeing patients get better, she kept seeing them get sicker and sicker and she knew there had to be another way.

So with her nursing background and life coaching education, she is know a Kingdom Lifestyle Coach who coaches mostly women through a gospel lens.

In today's episode we hear:

  • a little more of her story, how she is a single-mom, homeschool mom, and garden enthusiast
  • a refreshing look at the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us and what that means for us as christian women
  • How she promotes health with her son
  • how our exercise and eating healthy is more an expression of Christ's love for US, not necessarily our love for Him. While we move and eat out of a place of love for Him, it's more because of His love first
  • what it means to break generational cycles in your total body wellness
  • the number one reason women are coming to her: to steward their time better
  • how perspective and outlook of hardships and tough times really make a difference in your Kingdom living
  • why God shines brightest in our darkest of moments

Part 6 of HOLY Health Habits we get into the spiritual discipline of worship and how that relates to the skill of regulating our eating!

Sounds interesting right?! Here's the highlights + the 2 habits and actions that I share at the end of the episode, in this episode we discuss:

  • What does it mean to worship God?
  • The variety of ways worship can look in an individuals life
  • What the skill of self-regulation is, and how that's one of the skills we use for the spiritual discipline of worship
  • How self-regulation plays a role in our eating behaviors
  • That scripture doesn't call us to purposefully neglect our bodies
  • More often than not, any neglect towards are body, isn't necessarily purposeful, it's a lack of habits, skills and prioritizing time
  • How what you do with your body now will either pay off later or you will pay the price for later

Habits & Actions:

  • Listening to your body:
    • Practice hunger cures
    • Practice fullness cues
    • Amplify feedback – drink a glass of cold water and notice the sensations
  • Normalize and routinize eating habits (like worship):
    • have scheduled eating times
    • plan meals/stock up on convenient items
    • "berardis law" if you can see it, you will eventually eat it - keep those foods out of sight or whatever is preventing you from having normal eating behaviors

How does the spiritual discipline of prayer relate to your health journey? In today's episode we unpack what this spiritual discipline is and the skill it takes to build this discipline into our every day life: the skill of Awareness.

Being aware of the Holy Spirit, being in communication with the Father and being dedicated to know Him and have this relationship. This skill is easily the foundation for our next skill and health habit we need for life-long health - the skill and habits of awareness of our bodies. I break down simple habits and actions that will help you become more aware of your body over the course of time. Remind yourself - it's not a 1 and done thing. This is something that has to be practiced, but this skill will translate into ALL areas of your life, outside of your health and fitness journey.

Here are the habits and actions I suggested in the podcast:

  • Eat Slowly & Mindfully
    • do something in between bites
    • be the last person to eat – so pace yourself with the slowest eater
  • Eat to satisfied:
    • Stop eating once you are no longer hungry – but not overly full
    • Pause every few minutes to see how satisfied you are
  • Know why you are eating:
    • Before you eat, ask yourself “Why am I eating?” am I eating because I am truly hungry? Bored? Stressed? Etc
    • Be ok with whatever you decide to do with that information
  • Enjoy eating:
    • Eat and savor a small portion of a food that you love – no restrictions
    • Ask yourself- what works with the way I eat? What foods and types of meals do you look forward too

We get really practical in today's episode as we dive into:

  • The foundational spiritual discipline of Bible reading & a quick explanation as to why and how to do this more often
  • the hardest and yet MOST foundational skill needed for your health and fitness journey that most women actually don't stay consistent on
  • how no body gets fit and health on accident and why you need a plan
  • as women how we typically have an incredible skill for planning, prioritizing and preparing, and yet we often don't use that skill for our health and our fitness journey
  • specific habits & actions we can use to help us build this necessary skill the 4 habits are:
    • Make time & plan ahead
      • spend 5 minutes every Sunday evening looking through potential obstacles for the week and how you can overcome them
      • schedule and create reminders for appointments with yourself
      • plan your meals
      • prep your meals
    • Take a 5 minute action
      • plan the days you will workout and put them in your calendar don’t miss this with yourself!
      • Worship the Lord and pray for 5 minutes each morning or after your workout – build it into your workout routine
    • Create & use systems
      • create morning/nighttime routine
      • create a breakfast/lunch rotating menu

JOIN THE SD FIT WELL APP TODAY WITH THIS PROMO CODE: Use PROMO40 for 40% off first 2 months We get to welcome Kristin Williams back on the podcast today and talk all things BODY IMAGE! If you haven't listened to her intro episode, head to the link here and take a listen here before diving into this one.

In today's questions Kristin answers these questions for us:

  • How does our view of ourselves, through the lens of the gospel, affect and treat the way we view our body (we loaded the heavy ones first!!)?
  • How often are you finding in your practice that women are finding their worth in food or fitness instead of in God?
  • What does it mean that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?
  • What is the difference between shame and conviction with exercise and healthy eating?
  • How can placing our worth or identity in food or fitness become a form of idolatry and what is idolatry?
  • If there is an idol over body image or fitness & health what could be some next steps?
  • What does it mean to place God's truth over my feelings or opinion in this situation?

And we talk about:

  • Moving our bodies out of goodness, not out of punishment
  • At one point focusing on the scale, weight, body physique has become an idol in our lives
  • If your health was taken away today, how would you handle it?
  • Becoming aware of body image thoughts, and then getting the tools to wrestle well in the journey of body image
  • What happens when you think to highly of yourself or too "lowly" of yourself - and how either place can turn the focus off Christ and keep it on ourselves (even if we are trying to avoid it)
  • What the reality is for those believers who think they don't need to care for their body this side of heaven because their body "doesn't go" to heaven one day
  • Taking out of context "my body is a temple"
  • Being exhausted as a mom, determining when rest is God-honoring, and when it's not
  • Random chat about mom anger
  • Being scared to move forward or having some sort of apathy toward your body
  • Steps to take: praying for the Lord to lead and direct you what is from culture or what is from the Creator, intuitive eating
  • How your feelings are valid, but aren't always reliable
  • What it means to wrestle well with these idols and negative body image thoughts
  • You don't have to have it all figured out to model it to someone else

In today's episode we have the privilege of chatting with my friend Kristin Williams, a Registered Dietician and Eating Disorder Specialist that really also specializes in body image through a Gospel lens. In this introductory episode we chat about:

  • What healthy means to her now, verses when you was in her teens
  • What brought her to become a Christian Dietician
  • How her and her husband speak about food and bodies with their kids
  • What it means to have the information about health and fitness drop from your head to your heart
  • Asking the questions: what's the posture of your heart toward health and fitness?
  • The pressures for Kristin & myself being in the health industry and having the desire to "look the part" in our current culture
  • What it means to be a non-diet dietician
  • How dieting can actually in turn cause weight gain, overeating, and a further disconnection from ones body
  • What "making peace with food" actually means
  • My personal struggles I had with food and disordered eating in the beginning of my fitness journey
  • How when you make peace with food, you actually end up eating less and potentially losing weight because you lose the "last supper" mentality with food

and so much more! You are going to love this conversation with Kristin and love Kristin!!

Welcome back to episode 3 of the Holy Health Habits Series. Today we really dig into how you can enjoy your health and fitness journey and be thankful and gracious for it, instead of working out because you "have to" or "need to." Turning your wellness journey into an opportunity of gaining something, rather than a temporary stent of pain where you are losing something (like weight or inches, etc). Here is the ground we cover in this episode:

  • We recap the first 2 episodes
  • How the Exodus & the Israelites relate to our wellness journey today
  • Science behind why some people are more consistent in their workouts than others (study: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1469029223000997)
  • Why negative self-talk either in your mind or out loud is only going to damage your long-term health journey
  • How to focus on GAINING your health in Christ, rather than LOSING what's weighing you down
  • Armoring up in your health journey because Satan will come to steal, kill and destroy

Today's episode is part 2 in the introduction to the HOLY Health Habits series. We are going to talk about:

  • How fixating on an outcome for your physical health is probably the way to ruin your health
  • How an identity based goal and vision will help us find freedom in the journey
  • How the fight in our health and fitness journey lies in our identity, rather than outcome
  • Getting practical and answering 6 questions to help guide us into seeing who we believe God is calling us to be as we grow

Here are the 6 questions below for you to think over and pray over, write them down and then send me a picture in the SD Fit Well App or send me a message on Instagram @sdfitwell

  1. Imagine yourself 10 years from now - looking back on your life what will have mattered that you spent your time on? 2. What won’t have mattered that you spent your time on? 3. In 10 years, what are you doing, how do you feel and what type of healthy person are you? 4. What brings you the most joy and fires you up - currently? 5. Currently - if you were to have the perfect day, where you feel most energized and amazing and life - giving, what are you doing, how are you moving, and what are you eating? 6. What if your health was taken away? What if you achieved all your goals? How would you feel either way? Join the SD Fit Well App Today Here - and join a community of believers who are all focusing on who the Lord is calling us to be instead of an immediate physical outcome. Follow me on instagram @sdfitwell and let me know your thoughts on this new series!
