The library's exhibit room is opening tomorrow with a new display. The display will showcase the Waupaca community arts board as part of their 20th anniversary celebration. You can learn about its history and the important projects and initiatives it has brought to our community. This display will be available for viewing through October 3rd. The exhibit room is in the library's lower level and open the same time as the library. More information on this and future exhibits can be found online at Waupaca library dot org.

Also tomorrow at the library, the library's 4th annual renaissance faire. Taking place on the library's front lawn between 9am and 4, many acts and activities will be present. In addition to library staff, there will be groups from Gryphon Poursuivant siege encampment, Wisconsin River Ravens Viking camp, and the Wisconsin historical fencing association, along with the Waupaca historical society and the Waupaca arts hub. The Wood-Portage-Waupaca county chapter of the Wisconsin farmers union is hosting a meet and greet with candidates running for state senate 19 and congressional district 8. This is taking place tomorrow at 6:30pm at a WFU member farm located at N 66 93 county road K in Ogdensburg. This is a non-partisan opportunity for informal conversation between the community and the candidates. Discussion will be casual, with a focus on the issues that farmers and rural communities are facing. This event will take place outdoors. If weather is inclement, the event will be cancelled. All candidates have been invited, confirmed candidate attendees are Emily Tseffos, Mark Scheffler, Rick Crosson, and Katrina DeVille. Starting this Sunday, Articipation week has returned. Activities will be taking place all week. Sunday on city square will include bike decorating at noon, with a parade of the decorated bikes at 1. Also at 1 Back to the Vinyl will demonstrate record spinning, and Barnwood farms will make flower bouquets. A few other events throughout the week include open mic night, vinyl craft, tie-dye bandanas, fire spinning show, street dance; all culminating in Arts on the Square this coming Saturday. The City of Waupaca received a clean audit opinion for its 2025 financial statements, according to a presentation to the Common Council Tuesday night. Auditors from Johnson Block reported the city's overall governmental fund balance increased by more than 419-thousand dollars, with the General Fund growing nearly 302-thousand dollars. Waupaca's unassigned General Fund balance reached about 3.27 million dollars, equal to 38 percent of annual expenditures, well above the city's 20 to 25 percent target. The audit also showed positive results for utility operations, with the water, sewer, and telecommunications utilities all reporting increases in net position during 2025.

Waupaca’s Business Center held its ribbon cutting and open house yesterday, officially opening to the public. The Business Center is located within the expansion project at the city’s recreation center, which also added an additional gym. Funded by the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s Flexible Facilities Program, the business center features a co-working space, individual office suites, telehealth rooms, meeting rooms and an A/V studio designed as a community hub to support small businesses, remote workers, and startup entrepreneurs. Local officials and Governor Tony Evers were on-site to deliver remarks as the space officially opened. Waupaca city leaders heard the first reading Tuesday night of a proposed ordinance creating sex offender residency restrictions and child safety zones within the city. The measure would prohibit certain registered sex offenders from living within one-thousand feet of schools, daycare centers, parks, trails, playgrounds, specialty schools, and places of worship. It would also bar loitering within 500 feet of those locations and establish a citizen appeals board to review special cases. Police Chief Pete Kraeger says the ordinance is intended to enhance child safety while including exemptions and appeal provisions designed to comply with state law.

Lastly, the City of Waupaca Parks and Recreation Board meets this afternoon at 5:15pm in the City Council Chambers lower level of Waupaca City Hall. The meeting which is open to the public will review department reports, a recreation program update and discussion on the youth program fund. The agenda may be found at City of Waupaca dot org.

The Scandinavia Booster Club is holding their 58th annual corn roast this weekend. Today through Sunday there will be events and activities in the Scandinavia memorial park. Some of the events include a parade, tractor pulls, family friendly 5k, golf scramble, scrap metal drive, wood carving, adult prom, and plenty more. Your participation, donations, and support help forward the goals of the booster club, including maintaining local parks and supporting the Scandinavia Fire Department. The Waupaca library exhibit is currently hosting America 250 years in the making, about the American revolution, early history makers, battlefield archaeology, and more. However, this exhibit will only be in through tomorrow. Afterwards, the displays will be changed. Starting the end of next week the exhibit room will host Waupaca Arts on the Square, 20th Anniversary. The exhibit will show the history, as well as the projects and initiatives it has brought to the community. The exhibit room is in the library lower level, and is open the same times as the library. The Waupaca Area Public Library is set to host the J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue Show this afternoon. The hour-long program begins at 5 p.m. in the library’s downstairs meeting rooms and will feature live reptiles and other animals. Organizers say the hands-on presentation will focus on conservation and responsible pet ownership while giving attendees an up-close look at rescued animals.

The Waupaca County Solid Waste and Recycling Department is hosting a free backyard composting class this evening at 5 p.m. at the New London Public Library. The program will cover what materials can and cannot be composted, how to create nutrient-rich compost for gardens, and include a Recycling 101 presentation focused on waste reduction. Seating is limited for the educational event.

Lastly, A combined Disaster Recovery Center has opened at the New London Public Museum to assist residents and businesses affected by recent flooding. The center brings together FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and local agencies to provide information on recovery programs, disaster assistance applications, low-interest loans, and other available resources. The center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waupaca County Emergency Management, in partnership with Outagamie, Winnebago, Wisconsin, and Federal Emergency management groups, has announced the opening of a disaster recovery center. The center will officially open this Monday, in the new London public museum; and will be open weekdays 9 to 5, and Saturday 10 until 1. Residents and businesses are encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance online before visiting the center if able. This can be done through disaster assistance dot gov, using the FEMA mobile app, or calling the helpline at 1 800 621 3362. Visitors to the recovery center should bring ID, insurance information, photos of damage, repair estimates or receipts, and banking information for direct deposit if applicable. Recovery specialist will be able to help start and guide you through the process.

The Waupaca Arts hub as been awarded a Wisconsin non-state grant of almost 3 hundred thousand dollars. This recent investment brings the community-driven Room to Grow campaign only 1 hundred thousand short of their 1 point 5 million dollar goal; and will help to secure their new permanent location on School Street. The grant also supports the preservation and adaptive reuse of a historic community building. Originally built in the 50's, the former school has been renovated into a space with multiple studios, classrooms, and gathering spaces. Waupaca residents will have a chance to enjoy a movie under the stars this evening. The City of Waupaca is hosting an outdoor showing of Hoppers on the Bank First lawn next to the Waupaca Area Public Library. The movie begins at 8 p.m. and is part of the city’s outdoor movie series. A food truck will be on site, bring chairs or a blanket to sit on.

The Waupaca Police Department is alerting residents to a growing trend involving organized panhandling after officers responded to a welfare check involving individuals panhandling with a young child. Police say law enforcement agencies across Central and Northeast Wisconsin have reported groups traveling from community to community, often using children and signs describing financial hardships to encourage donations. Officials note that many of these cases are not tied to local emergencies and encourage residents to support established local organizations that assist those in need. If you observe suspicious activity or have concerns about the welfare of a child, please contact the Waupaca Police Department at 715-258-4400 or call 911 if there is an immediate emergency.

A free drive-thru dairy distribution will take place this afternoon at Waupaca High School. Beginning at 4 p.m., volunteers will hand out complimentary cooler bags filled with dairy products, with one bag available per vehicle while supplies last. The event is designed to highlight and support Wisconsin’s dairy industry and is being organized with the help of local dairy farmers, FFA chapters, 4-H clubs, and community volunteers.

Lastly, Waupaca Parks and Recreation is launching a new series of guided kayak trips on the Chain O’ Lakes. The program, open to ages 14 and older, includes Full Moon Paddle excursions in July and August, along with Sunset Paddle trips later this summer. The hour-and-a-half outings will be led by Adventure Outfitters and feature guided instruction while exploring the Upper Chain O’ Lakes. Registration deadlines for upcoming trips are approaching. The 54th Annual Iola Car Show and Swap Meet runs through tomorrow, celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a patriotic Red, White and Blue theme. Organizers expect thousands of visitors to enjoy more than 2,300 show cars and 4,000 swap spaces. Celebrity guests include Derek Bieri, actor Sung Kang, and TV stars Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl. Lastly, the Waupaca Farmers Market returns tomorrow morning in downtown Waupaca. The Waupaca Library and Historical Society have partnered to create a display "Waupaca Serves: A Story of Waupaca's Veterans and the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King". The display is up at the bandstand on the city hall / library front lawn. This shows how Waupaca served our country through the years and how the Veteran's home in King has served these veterans for nearly 140 years. The display will stay up through the end of August.

The library and the Chain Exploration Center are sharing the CEC's community garden this summer. They are planting, tending, and harvesting vegetables to stock the library's little free pantry. If you'd like to help, you don't need experience or equipment, just stop by. They are looking to get a group together for about an hour on the first and third Monday July and August, starting at 9am. If you have questions on this process, you can reach out to the library by calling them at 715 258 4414.

The water and sewer utility board will meet tomorrow. There will be discussion on a few things, including an update on Elm Street, and the hiring of a 4th water operator. Action will also be taken on the change order regarding well 4's rehabilitation. These meetings are open to the public, and will be taking place at 1pm in the council chambers in city hall. Waupaca is getting ready to celebrate Independence Day with a full day of hometown tradition. Saturday, the Fourth of July Parade steps off at 10 a.m. on Main Street, followed by a Knights of Columbus chicken barbecue and burger lunch at South Park. Later, the Chain Skiers perform at 5:30 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The celebration wraps up at dusk with fireworks over Shadow Lake starting at 9:30. Parking for fireworks is available at the Waupaca Recycling Center.

The City of Waupaca is reminding residents that several municipal facilities will be closed for the Independence Day holiday. City Hall, the Police Department front office, Recreation Center, Senior Center and Library will all be closed Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th. The recycling center will be open Friday, closed Saturday. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for city services during the holiday weekend.

The City of Waupaca Band Concert series continues Friday night with live music beginning at 7 p.m. Organizers remind residents that, for the remainder of the season, all concerts will take place on City Square next to Waupaca's historic bandstand. The Waupaca Area Public Library is inviting the community to get up close with some of Wisconsin’s most fascinating birds of prey. Tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., the library will host a Raptor Education Show featuring wildlife educators and live avian ambassadors from Raptor Education Group Incorporated, or REGI. The interactive program will take place in the library’s downstairs meeting rooms and will focus on common, but rarely seen, raptors found across Wisconsin.

The City of Waupaca is preparing to open its new Waupaca Business Center, a community hub designed to support entrepreneurs, remote workers, and small businesses. Located as part of the Recreation Center expansion, the facility will feature business suites, conference rooms, telehealth spaces, and high-speed internet access. City officials say the center is expected to open later this summer, helping foster economic growth and career development throughout the community. Finally, Friends of Waupaca Parks is now seeking vendors for this year’s Fall-O-Rama fundraiser. It's that time again, the annual Strawberryfest is here. Many activities will be taking place during the fest, 9am until 4, now back on Main Street. A few of the things you can expect is the strawberry lane food court, with of course, fresh local strawberries, arts, crafts, and vendor booths, tons of kids activities, and a few other nearby events including the farmers market on the city square or the model railroad show and swap meet in the rec center. Given that summer is just about to start, it feels unusual to be thinking about fall already, but Waupaca's fall-o-rama takes a while to get ready. The call has gone out for anyone who wishes to be a vendor or have a food truck at fall-o-rama to sign up. This will be Saturday, September 19th at South Park, or in the rec center in the case of inclement weather. Early bird registration must be completed by August 17th. The Weaver Awards 2026 applications are now open. The Weaver Awards are part of a constellation of activities designed to celebrate and support weavers—everyday neighbors who are building relationships, strengthening belonging, and weaving trust into the social fabric of their communities. The Awards are open to individuals and small grassroots groups. While many people in Northeast Wisconsin are serving their neighbors, the Weaver Awards look for those whose projects also create lasting relationships and build trust as people work together to strengthen their community and weave a tighter social fabric. Waupaca City Council Tuesday evening received an update on public transportation in Waupaca County from Valerie Lefler, operator of Pheonix Mobility Rising, who operates Waupaca County Catch a Ride. This service took over public transportation at the start of 2026, after discontinuing service from Waupaca Taxi. Lefler explains the new transportation service, provides transportation county-wide, further, an important metric is on-time performance, lastly, a wide criticism of the new service is the inability to make same-day ride requests.

Movie night is taking off at the Waupaca Airport. The City of Waupaca will host an outdoor showing of Brad Pitt's new racing film, F1, this evening at 8 o'clock. Residents are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the movie under the stars at the airport on Runway Drive. The no-cost community event is part of the city's summer outdoor movie series.

The longest day of the year will shine a light on Alzheimer's awareness in Waupaca tomorrow. The Aging and Disability Resource Center and the Waupaca Area Public Library are hosting "The Longest Day" community event from 9:30 to 11 a.m on City Square. Activities include a symbolic walk, a live concert by the Waupaca Rotary COGS Band, and a panel discussion featuring dementia care experts. Organizers encourage participants to wear purple in support of those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

The Waupaca Library will be hosting Job Center of Wisconsin, who will be running a mini job fair at the library. Coming up on Monday, between 1 and 3, employers from different industries will be in the lower level meeting rooms to answer your questions and discuss employment opportunities. Waupaca tourism is proving to be a major economic engine. New data from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism shows visitors to the Waupaca Chain O’ Lakes area generated $180 million in economic impact during 2025. Tourism supported more than 1,180 jobs and produced over $11 million in state and local tax revenue. Waupaca Area Chamber and Visitor Bureau President Jeff Anderson says continued investment by local businesses, from downtown Main Street to the Chain O’ Lakes, is creating new attractions and experiences that draw visitors year after year. Officials say tourism growth continues to benefit local businesses, residents, and the regional economy.

City officials in Waupaca are reminding residents that a feral cat trapping campaign near the Oman Street area will continue through the end of June. Live traps are being used to help address a growing feral cat population. Pet owners are reminded that cats and dogs must be leashed or kept on their property when outside. If a pet cat goes missing, contact the Humane Society of Waupaca County. Officials also warn that tampering with city-owned traps could result in fines. Looking for something fun to do today? The Waupaca Area Public Library is hosting an Instrument Petting Zoo from 1 to 3 p.m. today, giving people of all ages a chance to hold, explore, and try a variety of musical instruments. The no-cost, hands-on event is designed for anyone curious about music or interested in finding out which instrument might be right for them. The Instrument Petting Zoo takes place this afternoon at the Waupaca Area Public Library in the exhibit room.

This is the final week to register for Waupaca Parks and Recreation summer swim programs. Sign up now for Swim Instruction Session One at South Park Beach, with classes for all skill levels, and the June Sunset Paddle for ages 14 and up. Session one runs June 15th through July 2nd, with a second session later this summer. Register by June 8th at WaupacaRec.com.

Residents across central Wisconsin may notice increased military flight activity through June 12th as the 2026 Sentry North exercise takes place at Volk Field. Training flights, including F-35s and F-16s, are scheduled daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional audible sonic booms possible.

Animal lovers and bargain hunters, a huge rummage sale begins today at the Waupaca Airport. Located in the Brunner Hanger, the sale runs June 4th through 6th and features a unique “give what you can” pricing model. All proceeds support the Humane Society of Waupaca County’s local animal adoption and well-pet services. Drive in or fly in, follow the signs, and help make a difference for animals in need.

Lastly, the City of Waupaca Parks and Recreation Board meets this afternoon at 5:15pm in the City Council Chambers, lower level of Waupaca City Hall. The meeting is open to the public with the agenda posted online at City of Waupaca dot org, this afternoon they will review department reports and updates; consider a WBO/WAYSOP Field Usage Fee and review the Park Shelter Use Policy.

The City of Waupaca is reminding property owners that the 2026 assessment roll will be available for review during Open Book sessions beginning tomorrow. Open Book gives residents a chance to review their property assessment and ask questions before the Board of Review meets on June 10th at City Hall. The Waupaca Library is reminding residents that the “AgriCULTURE” exhibit celebrating the area’s rich farming history wraps up this Saturday. Finally, the Waupaca Community Arts Board’s Jazz & Cocktails festival begins tomorrow with a weekend of live music across the Chain O’ Lakes. Highlights include Grammy-nominated vocalist Michael Mayo, performances at the Indian Crossing Casino and Wheelhouse Restaurant, plus a Sunday jazz cruise with brunch aboard the Chief Waupaca sternwheeler. Memorial Day is this coming Monday, and as such, some city services will have adjusted hours. The Waupaca public library will be closed tomorrow, and on Monday closures will include City Hall, the library, the police department front office, the senior center, rec center, and the recycling center. All city services will return to their standard operating hours on Tuesday the 26th. This information is also available on the city's website, city of Waupaca dot org.

Also on Memorial Day, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs will be holding a Memorial Day ceremony at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King. This ceremony takes important time to remember the service and sacrifice of our state's and our nation's military service members and veterans. This event is free and open to the public, and will begin at 10am at the cemetery. The WDVA recommends arriving early to find parking. More information on the cemetery can be found online at Wis Vets dot com.

The Parfreyville United Methodist Church has announced their 2026 children and youth grant recipients. $1000 has been awarded to the Waupaca community arts hub to support tuition assistance, to help make lessons and classes, which can have hundreds of students per week, even more accessible. $1000 has also been awarded to Golden Sands Research Conservation and Development Council, so as to support the Waupaca County Conservation Field Day, an annual full day of environmental education for about 400 5th grade students within the county. $1000 has also been awarded to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, in order to support their project titled: No Kid Sleeps On The Floor In Our Town. This project utilizes volunteers to build and deliver twin size beds to youth between 3 and 17 that are sleeping on the floor or other uncomfortable situations. And finally, $500 was awarded to Trinity's Tiny Treasures preschool. This money is to support a Toniebox audio system and companion headphones for the preschool's literacy center; to help foster independent reading habits, improve phonological awareness, and provide an inclusive learning environment for students with sensory processing sensitivities. Waupaca City Council, Tuesday evening, appointed the city’s next Finance Director. Greg Grohman, who currently serves as the joint grant writer for the City, School District and Chamber of Commerce will move into the city’s Finance Director role in early June. Grohman replaces Stephanie Reif who resigned the finance director position in March.

Tonight, at the Holly History Center, the Waupaca Historical Society presents Waupaca’s Lost Indigenous Mounds. The presentation by Zachary Bishop starts at 6pm. The presentation will focus on our area's indigenous history and once numerous effigy mounds around the Chain O'Lakes.

Lastly, the Waupaca Area Public Library presents, Donuts and Dives with Ed the Diver. Ed the Diver and his mermaid Christie will share about their mission to clean up Wisconsin’s waterways, the underwater recovery business, and the way they spread joy far and wide. This takes place tomorrow at 11am at the Waupaca Area Public Library, this snack and learn program will feature donuts and hot coffee.

The Waupaca County suicide prevention coalition will be hosting the 10th annual walk in hope walk in memory tomorrow. This annual Run/Walk fundraising event brings people together to honor loved ones, support one another, and raise awareness that no one is alone. The event will begin at Swan Park, check in and registration is available starting at 9. There will be a guest speaker starting at 10, then the walk will start immediately after the speaker. The Waupaca High School Robotics Team is doing a Brat Fry tomorrow to kick off their 2026-2027 Tournament season. They will start serving at 11am and running until 2pm or until they run out of food. This will be located at 426 Wisconsin Street in Waupaca. There will be hot dogs, brats, and pulled pork sandwiches, available in a meal, served with a bottle of water and choice of chips, or food and be purchased individually.

The Waupaca farmers market will be starting up again starting tomorrow. This will be typically taking place on the city square, each Saturday through October, 9am until 1. There is now also a matching program for SNAP, Senior and WIC FMNP checks so you could get double the usual fruits and vegetables. The Waupaca Police Department recognized Police and Fire Commissioner Jim Schulz for 25 years of service to the City of Waupaca. Schulz, who is not seeking another term, was honored for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to public safety over the past quarter century. The department thanked him for his lasting impact on the community.

Volunteer Waupaca is preparing for a great community event as the Volunteer Waupaca Day of Service returns next week Saturday. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Upper South Park, where volunteers will gather before heading out to work on projects throughout the community. The day wraps up with a celebration including refreshments, entertainment, and prizes. Organizers say the family-friendly event brings residents together to make a positive impact, with t-shirts available for the first 150 participants.

The Waupaca Area Genealogical Society will be holding a presentation tomorrow at 9 at the Holly History Center. Led by Twin City Monument Works, they will talk about cemetery monuments: the types of stones and how to properly clean them. Anyone is welcome, as the event is at no cost, and is made for genealogists, local historians, cemetery volunteers, or anyone interested in preserving historic monuments. Hartman Creek State Park has naturalist most weekends through October. Tomorrow morning starting at 8am, will be a morning bird walk, an easy one mile walk on the accessible Dike Trail on Hartman Lake. Anyone is welcome; some binoculars will be available, but it is recommended you bring your own if you have some. Starting at 8 PM, sounds of the night! The camp host will take a short easy walk to listen to and learn about frogs, whippoorwills, and other night creatures. This trail is accessible and paved; but please no dogs. The Wisconsin DNR reports a VERY HIGH fire danger. Dry conditions mean fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and become difficult to control. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with any open flames. For current burn restrictions and safety information, visit apps dot dnr dot wi dot gov slash wisburn.

Drivers on U.S. Highway 10 in Waupaca County should prepare for construction delays this summer and fall. Road work from Anderson Road to Appletree Lane runs May through August, while work from Old WIS 49 to the Winnebago County line begins in mid-July through October. At least one lane in each direction will remain open during construction. Motorists are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and give road crews room to work safely.

The city of Waupaca Parks and Recreation Board meets this afternoon at 5:15pm in the City Council Chambers at Waupaca City Hall. The meeting which is open to the public includes a review of the department’s annual report, a look at the Rec Desk contract and a recreation program update. Lastly, congratulations to the Waupaca High School Math Team, who wrapped up an outstanding season last week at its banquet on the UWSP campus. Several students earned top-10 finishes in the Central Wisconsin Math League, including Amy Chen, Peyton Koeppler, Maggie Miller, Oliver Funk-Rusch, and Noah Kolinski. Noah made league history by earning a perfect score of 300 and becoming the first student in the league’s 56-year history to win the Advanced division four years in a row.

Clinton is a solo artist from North Central Wisconsin. He has been writing and producing his own original music for over twenty years, Miller, born in Antigo Wisconsin was raised on the Stockbridge Munsee Mohican Indian Reservation and is a tribal member.  Clinton got his start playing lead guitar in local metal/punk & bar bands as a teenager during the late 80’s, he later decided to break away from the band scene and go solo by the mid nineties. Miller is currently working on new music that is incorporating more electric/synth guitar songwriting… edging more towards his Modern Pop influences.GO HERE to hear Clinton's music!
