Each week Andrew and Ted comb the streaming services looking for and watching original content from providers like Hulu, Apple TV, Netflix, HBO, Paramount, and others to bring their listeners not only an honest review of what they've watched but a review that is generationally divided between the two host.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss this Mark Wahlberg starring streaming original feature by Prime Video. Parker (Wahlberg) is a professional high end thief with his marks and potential scores being a little bigger and classier (if that is even a thing when it comes to robbing) than your average bank heist. In "Play Dirty", Wahlberg and his team knock over a horse racing track but things go south when they have an unexpected visitor while exiting the heist and then things go even further south when one of his crew members double crosses the team by killing all but one (Parker) and keeps the cash from the track heist all for themselves. Parker now has to track that person down, recover the cash, and make his long-time partner's wife (played by Gretchen Mol) whole after he was murdered by this turncoat. This week Andrew and Ted discuss the Netflix Colombian born original mystery / thriller series "The Guest". In this soap meets 50 Shades of Gray 20 episode series ... a couple at the beginning of trying to save their marriage, after he has had an affair, is thrown a curveball when an attractive woman that the wife met while traveling solo on a vacation comes knocking at their door late one night.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss what they thought of the first two episodes (out of 8) of the new Netflix original series "Black Rabbit", starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman. This drama / suspense follows two brothers (Law & Bateman) as they struggle with their personal lives as well as each other. While both struggling, personally, Bateman's character seems to be in deeper as he is trying to escape his past with some shady characters while Law's character is struggling chasing a dream. Their lives intertwine as their bonds as brothers, now that both parents have passed, hold onto what semblance of family remains as one (Law's character) is now dragged into the mess of the other (Bateman's character).
This week on "Streaming Without A Paddle", Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss the Prime Video original feature "Last Breath" ... starring Finn Cole, Woody Harrelson, and Simu Liu. Based on the true story of deep-water diver Chris Lemons. Lemons (Cole) and his dive partner David (Liu) are 300+ feet below the surface of the ocean in a dive to replace a faulty gas valve when their ship loses it's gps position hold capabilities that cause the divers to be pulled from their work location. Lemon's umbilical cord is severed leaving Lemons on the bottom of the ocean. Once the captain and crew are able to regain manual positioning hold David (Lui) returns to the sight to retrieve Lemon. Found lifeless on top of the underwater manifold David brings Lemon back to the diving bell where he is given mouth to mouth by the dive leader Duncan (Harrelson). Amazingly Lemon starts breathing again after being without oxygen for nearly 30 minutes.
This week on the show Andrew and Ted discuss the newly released feature "ARCADIAN", starring Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, and Maxwell Jenkins. In a post-apocalyptic world Paul (Cage) is trying to raise his two boys Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins) in a world where these subterranean creatures are forced hibernate underground during the day and rule the nights above ground as they burrow up looking for food. It's a nightly game of wits.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss the Apple TV original from Spike Lee "Highest 2 Lowest", starring Denzel Washington and featuring Jeffrey Wright, Aubrey Josesph, A$AP Rocky, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Dean Winters. Record executive / label founder David King's (Washington) son and friend are kidnapped. The kidnappers mistakenly release King's son, who is the kidnapping target, and keep his best friend who just happens to be David King's driver / personal assistant Paul Christopher (Wright). Pressure mounts on King who must make the decision to put up $17.5 million ransom to free Paul's son. Tune into the show to find out what Andrew and Ted thought about this Spike Lee Joint.
This week Andrew and Ted sat down to discuss the romance feature "The Map That Leads to You" starring Madelyn Cline and KJ Apa. Texas girl Heather (Cline) and two of her girlfriends (Connie, Sofia Wylie and Amy, Madison Thompson) take time to "budget travel" across Europe before Heather has to return to the US / home to start her new job in finance in New York city. While traveling by train Heather meets Jack (Apa) and while initially there is no interest their paths cross again as Jack kinda of followers her to a night club where they strike up a conversation and subsequent friendship. Over the next couple of days, as Amy's wild side leads Heather to kind of lean on Jack for support, they quickly develop a purely mental attraction as their intellectual competitiveness draws them closer. They soon succumb to the physical attraction they have subsequently developed. Heather having delayed her return to the states by week to continue her tryst with Jack is left flying home solo after Jack ghosts her at boarding time. Their adventure has them covertly working their way to the NATO meeting to keep the break up from happening. Billed as a Comedy / Crime, a comedy improve instructor (Howard) procures the assistance of two of her students (Bloom & Mohammed) after a detective solicits her assistance in going undercover to bust bootleg cigarette ring. While procuring the illicit cigarettes Marlon (Bloom), who took the improve classes to enhance his method acting skills, pushes things with the store clerk when he asks for drugs. The store clerk, happy to oblige, introduces them to Fly (Considine) the local drug boss. Now in way deeper than the initial purchase of bootleg cigarettes the comedy team improves their way into not only becoming members of the city's biggest drug operation but the right hand to the city's biggest drug boss. The inheritance for her only daughter (Alex / Sofia Carson) is a little more complicated. For Alex to secure her inheritance she must complete a list of things she, Alex, wrote as things to accomplish in life when she was just thirteen. She has one year to accomplish those eleven things on her list. Every time she completes one of the items the family attorney gives her a cd that her mom recorded for her of her offering her support as she checks them off this list. One of these items on her, Alex's, life list is to find true love. That's where Brad (Allen) and Garrett (Souza) come in. Brad works at the law firm overseeing the will and Brad is the attorney acting as the estate's executor. Garrett on the other hand is the director of a non-profit where Alex works as a teacher. Based off the novel of the same name it's about an Icelandic man in search of the Japanese woman that he met and had a relationship with 50 years prior when the two of them lived in London where he worked in the girl's father's restaurant. Set in both present-time as well as 1970 this story follows both the struggles of an emerging love as well as the hopes of rekindling what was some 50 years earlier. Directed and told by Baltasar Kormákur (Beast, Adrift, Contraband, The Deep) it is truly a heart warming story that most can relate too as we all have someone we have either thought ... "what if" and or "where are they now".

Two immediate suspects emerge, Gryla and Krampus, after learning that "The Wolf" (played by Chris Evans) was nothing more than an unwitting accomplice. Being the kind hearted person Kathy is she attempts to help this individual who seems to have amnesia and in the process they begin to fall in love. The question then becomes what becomes of these two as time goes on and the heat is turned up by the local sheriff who is trying to figure out who broke into the local boutique and stole some clothes. "My Old Ass" is written and directed by Megan Parks (The Fallout), her second such project in that combined role.

Lucy inadvertently travels back in time 20 years to the date in which her hometown was targeted by serial killer that ended up taking three victims over the course of few days. One such killing was that of the sister she never got to know having been born after her passing. Lucy, understanding where she has ended up is now faced with the decision whether to try to stop the murders and alter the time line or just let it play out as history and just focus on getting back home.

Harland one day decides that humans are on a path of self destruction and leaves earth to develop his own army to put humans on earth out of their misery. Knowing Harlan's plan the government recruits Atlas to assist in the retrieval of Harland's AI chip.

The idea behind this movie is that three childhood friends found them in the position of having accidentally starting a home fire when a flaming bag of pooping on a door stoop catches the entire place a blaze. In an effort to stay out of trouble the three young boys plant a pair of shorts at the scene with a made up name written on the waste band ... Ricky Stanicky. For the next twenty years their made up friend "Ricky Stanicky" has gotten the three friends out of trouble as well as out of family obligations. That is until one day when an in-law calls their bluff about the existence of their friend "Ricky Stanicky" and pressures the trio to invite Ricky to a family bris. After meeting Rod Rimestead (Cena) "Trained Actor" at an Atlantic City casino during one of their Ricky Stanicky based travels, they hire him to play the part of Ricky Stanicky at the bris. Things kinda go array when Rod himself assumes the role of Ricky and just can't shake. The three friends lives are turned upside down as they try to shake their once imaginary friend Ricky Stanicky. Jakub's only human contact is with mission control specialist Petr (Kunal Nayyar) back on earth and his stowaway alien companion, a giant spider, named Hanus (voice over by Paul Dano). Jaycen Jennings is a former NFL superstar wide receiver struggling, unattractive to media outlets and brands because of his outspokenness and ego, to find his way in his new life off the grid iron. After recklessly pulling out in front and causing an accident of L.A. public transportation bus, Jaycen (Snoop Dogg) is given the choice either go to jail for up to 5 years or 300 hours (7 1/2 weeks) of picking up dog poop in the Long Beach park. Take a guess which direction Jaycen goes! Picking up dog poop turns into becoming the head coach of the local down and out pee wee football team. Is the writing on the wall, especially given the title of the movie. Anyway tune in to see what Andrew & Ted thought about this Amazon Prime original.
This week Andrew & Ted are taking a look at the Netflix, Seoul, South Korea born, original "Badland Hunters". This movie stars Ma Dong-seok, Roh Jeong-eul, Lee Jun-young, and Lee Hee-joon. Based on a fictional earthquake that essentially, from a structural standpoint, wipes out the entire country. Those who didn't die from the quake are left to forage for food and the most prized commodity ... clean water. The very commodity that a mad doctor uses to keep unsuspecting to keep families, mainly young women, in his clutches as he experiments on them as he tries to create a process to revive his own daughter killed in the earthquake.
This week on "Streaming Without A Paddle" Andrew and Ted talk about the Jake Johnson (New Girl, Minx, Let's Be Cops) written and directed Hulu original "Self Reliance" (1 hour 29 min.). Tommy (Jake Johnson) is plucked from the streets of L.A. by Andy Sanberg (playing himself) and offered to take an adventure for which he (Andy Samberg) knows nothing about. Tommy agrees and off to an abandoned L.A. warehouse where Tommy is offered the opportunity to participate in a "dark web reality series". For thirty-days, Tommy must elude a number of individuals who are playing / trying to kill him. Should Tommy survive the thirty-days he will win 1 Million Dollars. The movie also stars Anna Kendrick with appearances by Emily Hampshire (Schitts Creek), Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings), and Bill Wiff.
This week on "Streaming Without A Paddle", your top choice when it comes to reviewing (spoiler FREE) of original streaming content, Andrew and Ted sat down to discuss Netflix's original "LIFT" starring Kevin Hart and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, with a supporting cast of Úrsula Corberó, Sam Worthington, Billy Magnussen, Kim Yoon-ji, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jacob Batalon, Oli Green, Burn Gorman, Paul Anderson, and Jean Reno. This "Italian Job" meets "Oceans 12" introduced by "Kingsman: The Golden Circle action / comedy takes a band of high end thieves (via The Italian Job / Oceans 12) has a member of the gang caught by Interpol (Oceans 12) that leads to the eventual agreement that they will assist Interpol steal 500 million dollars worth of gold bullion (The Italian Job) from an evil investor to stop him from financing a hack that will net him billions of dollars in return and leave numerous cities flooded and countless people dead. So tune in to find out what Andrew & Ted thought not only about the movie but Kevin Hart's crack at becoming a serious (non-comedic not as in "taking acting seriously") actor.
This week on Streaming Without A Paddle Andrew and Ted sat down to discuss, spoiler free, what they thought of the Peacock TV release of the Golden Globe nominated film "The Holdovers", starring Paul Giamatti, first-time feature actor Dominic Sessa, and Tony Award winning actress Da'Vine Joy Randolph. "The Holdovers" is about a smart but angry at life professor at an all boys prep / private school and a smart yet troubled teen student who are left in each others care and company at the school for Christmas break after the student's parents decide to have him stay at the school while they go on their honeymoon and a professor who draws the short stick. The two, through the course of a number events, strike a bond ultimately enriching their own lives as they find common ground.
This week Andrew and Ted sat down and watched Apple TV's original "The Family Plan" starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby with appearances by Maggie Q, Ciarán Hinds, and social media influencer Valkyrae. Former assassin Sean (Mark Wahlberg) has been 18 years vacant of his former profession and has settled down in Buffalo were he has starred a family under the assumed name Dan Morgan. Now a used car salesman Dan is in his happy place until one day a video of him is posted on social media and subsequently his true identity is pinged by his former employer ... who by the way happens to be his father (McCaffery ... played by Ciarán Hinds). Now that his identity has been made know to his former assassin group Dan, aware of being pinged, loads up the family in their mini-van for a surprise trip to Las Vegas where he can meet up with a former colleague that can provide him and his family with new identities. Of course the cross-country car trip is loaded with hijinks as Dan tries to keep his true identity a secret all the while being chased by members of his old assassin team. The real question is ... What did Andrew and Ted think of this Apple TV original? Tune in to find out.
This week Andrew & Ted sit down to review Netflix's original "Leave the World Behind" starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Myha'la Herrold with an appearance by Kevin Bacon. New Yorkers Amanda (Julia Roberts) decides that her family needs an immediate vacation so she secretly books an AirBnB for her family out on Long Island. So she and her husband Clay (Ethan Hawke), son Archie (Charlie Evans) and daughter Rosie (Farrah MacKenzie) leave their home in the city for an extended weekend. And it was a good thing because chaos ensues when slowly anything controlled by satellite either quits and or is seeming taken control of by unknown sources. Soon enough the city begins burns. Turn of fate when the AirBnB owner George (Mahershala Ali) and his daughter Ruth ( Myha'la Herrold) also decide to leave their primary home in the city for the safety of their Long Island get away home. The two families work through the awkwardness of the situation as they figure out how to cope with the apocalyptic scenario plays out.
This week Andrew and Ted sat down and watched Netflix's Christmas original "Best Christmas Ever!", starring Heather Graham (Charlotte Sanders), Brandy (Jackie), and Jason Biggs (Rob Sanders). Charlotte, Jackie, and Rob are all old college friends, Charlotte and Rob however became husband and wife. Each year at Christmas Jackie sends out a "Year in Review" Christmas letter to friends and family. You know the one! The one that makes, typically, those on the receiving end feel a little less about themselves and their lives in comparison. A snarky sarcastic answer by Charlotte to her 11 year old son Grant (played by Wyatt Hunt) has him thinking he is going to give his mother the greatest Christmas present ever by programming Jackie's address into the GPS instead of her sister's new address as the Sanders head out of town to spend with Charlotte's sister. Surprise! The Sander's end up at Jackie's house and snow storm has them trapped for Christmas. Charlotte does her best to try to prove to herself that her friend Jackie's life isn't nearly as perfect as it comes across in her "Year in Review" letter. Truth be told .... ? Well you'll have to tune into find out what Andrew and Ted thought about this Netflix holiday original.
This wee Andrew and Ted take a break from their Christmas movie block to bring you what they're calling "Breaking News" with their review of "Please Don't Destroy - The Treasure of Foggy Mountain". This Peacock TV original movie stars SNL writer alum Martin Herlihy, Ben Marshall, and John Higgins. Having said that if you're assuming that this a comedy then you would be absolutely correct and if you defined it as a sophomoric comedy move the front of the line. Now because it is defined as such don't hastily dismiss it ... that is until you've had a chance to listen to Andrew and Ted.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss the Hulu original "Christmas with the Campbells" starring Brittany Snow, Justin Long, Alex Moffat, Julia Duffy, and George Wendt. Tune in to listen to their thoughts about this Rom/Com billed as a Hallmark Christmas parody. Andrew isn't sure it is such a thing, rather an excuse.
In this episode Andrew and Ted, in the spirit of Halloween sat down and watched "5 Nights at Freddy's", starring Josh Hutcherson, and Elizabeth Lail. "5 Nights at Freddy's" is about a young man coping with with the loss of his younger brother. This "coping" has left him unable to focus and maintain a "normal" life as his mind is haunted with the kidnapping. Because of such he has trouble finding employment and is forced to take a job as a security guard at an abandoned pizzeria / game room called Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Hence the title ... "5 Nights at Freddy's". So don't be like Andrew and think that the movie is about a person or group having to spend 5 Nights at Freddy Krueger's place. You would be wrong, just like Andrew. Now if you think this movie is based off the video game of the same name you would be correct. So tune in to find out what Andrew and Ted thought of what Andrew referred to as a "Gateway Horror Movie".
This week Andrew and Ted talk about, spoiler free of course, Amazon TV's original "The Burial" starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones. Jerry O'Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones) owns and number of funeral homes across the state of Mississippi, when he finds himself in a financial pinch he reaches out to one of the largest owners of funeral homes via his hometown attorney Mike Allred (Alan Ruck) to handle the contractual agreement. We the deal goes south and Jerry tends to hold the other company to their agreement so he sues them for breach of contract. Thinking the case might be more than Mike can handle he reaches out the flashy attorney Willie E. Gary (Jamie Foxx) at the behest of his son's lawyer friend Hal Dockins (Mamoudu Athie). Based upon a true story this courtroom drama is anything but out of order. Tune in to find out what Andrew & Ted thought about "The Burial".
This week Andrew and Ted took on the Paramount + original "Pet Sematary - Bloodlines", starring Jackson White, Natalie Alyn Lind, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, and David Duchovny. "Pet Sematary - Bloodlines" is a prequel to Stephen King's novel Pet Sematary. Co-written and as well making her directorial debut Lindsey Anderson Beers. The surprise to that sidebar is that name Jeff Jarrett (Spring Breakers) gets thrown into the mix. Special, albeit a short visit, guest Ted's wife Paige calls into the show. This week Andrew and Ted sat down and watched Netflix's "10 Days with a Bad Man". By all accounts it seems as if "10 Days with a Bad Man" is a Turkish made film. Andrew and Ted can't confirm that but they can speak to some degree of certainty that the actors were not originally, at the time of filming, speaking in English when they delivered their dialog. Which, at least for Andrew, brought a second dimension when it came to viewing entertainment. Tune in to hear what Andrew and Ted thought of this Netflix crossover.
This week Andrew and Ted sat down to discuss, spoiler free, what they liked and didn't like in Peacock TV's 10 episode original "Twisted Metal". The series is an adaptation of Sony's 1995 video game of the same name and stars Anthony Mackie (Falcon / Marvel), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn 99), and Will Arnett and Samoa Joe (Professional Wrestler) teaming up as the voice and body of Sweet Tooth.
This week Andrew and Ted share their thoughts about the Hulu Original "Donor Party" ... oh wait a minute. That's right Ted couldn't make it pass the 20 minute mark so they called an audible at the line and watched Netflix's original "They Cloned Tyrone", starring John Boyega (Fontaine), Jamie Foxx (Slick Charles), and Teyonah Parris (Yo-Yo) with appearances by J. Alphonse Nicholson and Kiefter Sutherland. While filmed in Atlanta, Ga, the film takes place in Baltimore. Fontaine (John Boyega) is a drug dealer and during the course of making money collection from one of his distributors (Slick Charles, played by Jamie Foxx) he is killed by a rival. A killing that is witnessed by Slick Charles, Yo-Yo, and another one of Slick Charle's lady's of the night. However, the next morning Fontaine wakes from his own bed and returns to Slick Charles to collect his money once again. This of course raises Slick Charles and Yo-Yo's suspicion because they witnessed Fontaine's killing. Yo-Yo, a Nancy Drew fan, has a real life mystery on her hand and sets out with the help of Fontaine and Slick Charles to understand what is actually going on. This week Andrew and Ted watched the Netflix original "Happiness for Beginners" starring Luke Grimes (Yellowstone) and Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). This Rom/Com co-stars Gus Birney, Ben Cook, Esteban Benito, Nico Santos, Alexander Koch, Julia Shiplett, and Shayvawn Webster. Helen (Ellie Kemper) has just gotten divorced from her husband, a guy apparently no one within her family really cared for, so she sets out on a week long adult only guided hiking trip. Low and behold her little brother's (played by Alexander Koch) best friend Jake (played by Luke Grimes) happens, not by chance, to be on the same guided hiking trip. The plot twist is that Jake has always, even since childhood, been in love with Helen and since the families are close, Jake knew Helen was going on this hike so he signed up as well. Helen isn't the only one going through "life issues", Jake had to stop being a doctor because he suffers from retinitis pigmentosa a disease that causes on to lose their sight. The question is ... does this week long escapade lead to Helen and Jake finding true love or does the week provide a new light about Helen to Jake and he realizes he has been wrong all these years. Well Andrew and Ted won't tell you that but they will let you know if they recommend the movie or not.

This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss the Netflix original ... "The Mother" ... starring Jennifer Lopez (The Mother), Lucy Paez (Zoe / The Daughter), Omari Hardwick (Agent William Cruise), Joseph Fiennes (Adrian / illegal gun dealter), and Gael Garcia Bernal (Héctor / illegal gun dealer #2). J'Lo portrays a former Special Forces / Sniper type who turns to the illegal gun trade after leaving the service. Her character is literally, while not shown, in bed with both arms dealers and is pregnant with one of theirs baby. The hitch is ... J'Lo's character (The Mother) has been caught and to save herself has agreed to work with Federal Government to put these arm dealers behind bars. While at a safe house being interviewed by the feds Adrian comes after her, taking down all the feds protecting her and as well as stabbing her in an attempt to silence her. Before Adrian can finish her off an improvised, made by J'LO's character, device goes off disrupting his actions and severely burning Adrian. Found by authorities, J'Lo's character is taken to the hospital for treatment and while there doctors perform a necessary C-Section to save both the mother (J'Lo) and child's (Lucy) lives. It's decide at that time, for the protection of the child, that the kid will be put up for adoption and J'Lo's character will be placed into the witness protection program. J'Lo's character agrees to the adoption but opts out of government protection and will fend for herself having the survival skills she possesses thanks to her street smarts and military training. Well it comes to J'Lo's attention, via her connection with Agent Cruise, that both Adrian and Héctor know about the child and will use it to draw J'Lo out of hiding. Let the Jason Bourne esque games begin. Recently coming off an at time harsh assessment of Lopez's performance in "Shotgun Wedding", what do Andrew and Ted think about not only J'Lo's performance but the movie itself. Tune it to find out!
This week Andrew & Ted discuss Peacock TV's release of "Knock at the Cabin", starring Dave Bautista (Lenoard), Ben Aldridge (Andrew), Jonathan Groff (Eric), Abby Quinn (Adriane), Rupert Grint (Redmond), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Sabrina), and Kristen Cui (Wen). "Knock at the Cabin", mystery / thriller / horror, is directed by M. Night Shyamalan. A young same sex couple (Andrew & Eric) take their adopted daughter (Wen) to a remote lake cabin to escape their city lives for a while. Little did they know they had been tracked down by a group of "End of the World" believers that believe through visions that the key to saving the world from complete and utter destruction is that one of the three, Andrew / Eric / or Wen, must die at and by the hand of one of their family members. I could go on but at this point I think it is best for Andrew & Ted to unravel this storyline. So tune into this episode of "Streaming Without A Paddle" for Andrew & Ted's perspective and thoughts.
This week Andrew and Ted watched what ended up being a double feature of what appears to be back 2 back series / movies in the Kevin Hart starring title(s) Die Hart. In this series / movies Kevin plays himself as a comedic actor that has grown tired of being the funny co-star and wants to break the stereotype that Hollywood has labeled him and become a seriously taken leading action hero. Die Hart and Die Hart 2 co-stars Nathalie Emmanuel along side Kevin. Die Hart co-stars John Travolta with extended performances from Josh Hartnett and Jean Reno whereas Die Hart 2 co-stars John Cena and Ben Schwartz.

"Tetris", the movie, is a spy type thriller / drama that lacks the all the action of say a Jason Bourne or Mission Impossible but has all the intrigue and mystery. The highly anticipated sequel to their 2019 record setting "Murder Mystery" finally dropped ... the question is ... was it worth the nearly four year wait? Andrew and Ted definitely have their thoughts about that ... along with commentary regarding Andrew getting kinda cornered in the produce section of his local grocery by a guy who thought he was his doppelganger Rick Moranis. This week Andrew and Ted sat down and watched the EPIC, as in extremely LONG (3hrs / 9mins), movie "Babylon". This film is lead by two of Hollywood's leading actors ... Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie and they honestly held their own billing when it comes to performances put in, but the question is does the film? "Babylon" is a Hollywood coming to age picture as the industry itself transitions from the seemingly out of control era of silent films of the roaring 1920's into the 1930's era of "talkies". Beyond the fast paced, overly decadent lifestyles portrayed by Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) and Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie) as Hollywood's leading man and woman, the question to be answered is ... will Jack and Nellie be able to make the transition? This is "journey" stylized movie is told as if it was filmed at 2x speed as the question to be answered is solved as Jack and Nellie bounce between shooting days and lavish over the top parties. During the 3hr and 9min runtime it is difficult to find a down moment as the action never loses pace, however and for the life of me, I can't figure out how in the world viewing it felt actually longer than the 3hr and 9 min runtime ... I was emotionally exhausted at the conclusion because mainly of how fast paced it was. But from the prospective of Andrew and Ted ... what did they really think of Babylon? Tune in to find out.
This week on "Streaming Without A Paddle" Andrew and Ted breakdown their likes and dislikes of Netflix's original "We Have A Ghost". The Presley family (Frank / dad played by Anthony Mackie, Melanie / mom played by Erica Ash, Fulton / son #1 played by Niles Fitch, and Kevin / son #2 played by Jahi Di'Allo Winston) moves into their new home. Kevin doesn't share the same relationship his older brother Fulton has with their father so he's more to himself and because of such Kevin has sought refuge in the older home's very spacious attic and it's here where he first meets Ernest (played by David Harbour). Initially Ernest tries to scare Kevin, like he as apparently done with previous owners, but Kevin is unspookable! Just the opposite. Kevin takes this opportunity to actually befriend Ernest being that he feels as if he is the third wheel in the father / sons relationship dynamic. Not only does Kevin decide to befriend Ernest he wants to help Ernest get to the other side being that he is seemingly stuck in this dimension. Things go awry when Kevin's father and brother get a hold of the video of Ernest that Kevin recorded on his phone. Kevin's dad Frank, in yet another "get rich quick" scheme, posts the video on YouTube to cash in. Because of Frank's decision the world now becomes aware of Ernest and people come out of the wood work to catch a glimpse of Ernest ... including a special division within the CIA. All of which leads to a game of cat and mouse as Kevin is determined to assist Ernest in getting to the other side.
In a retro-futuristic world, charismatic salesman Jack Billings (played by Billy Crudup) leads a team (Eddie / Hank Azaria, Shirley /Haneefah Wood, Herb / Dewshane Williams, Joey / Nicholas Podany) of fellow sales associates determined to revitalized their customers' lives by hawking timeshares on the moon. That my friends is synopsis of this Apple TV series as found at Apple TV ... enjoy it for what it is because Andrew and Ted definitely have their opinion of this series and it's not nearly as romantic as the billing. Matter of fact ... this episode title of "Streaming Without A Paddle" should really be "Episode 21 - Adam Sandler ... OSCAR worthy or NOT!" because that is what Andrew and Ted spend the bulk of their time discussing after they found absolutely nothing redeeming about this series. So tune in ... as Ted's sidebar takes them down the Adam Sandler rabbit hole.
This week Andrew and Ted tuned into Netflix's original Rom / Com motion picture "Your Place or Mine", starring Reese Witherspoon (Debbie Dunn), Ashton Kutcher (Peter Coleman), Wesley Kimmel (Jack Dunn) along with Jesse Williams (Theo Martin), Zoe Chao, and Tig Notaro. Debbie and Peter become life long best friends after a post couple poker game hookup some 20 years earlier. However, the problem is that Debbie lives in L.A. and Peter now lives in NYC, but that doesn't keep them from talking to each other everyday. Well it turns out that Debbie needs to go to NYC to take a class ... what a perfect opportunity for the two friends to spend time together. Debbie's sitter, aspiring actress Scarlet, ends up booking an acting gig in Vancouver during the same time Debbie is supposed to go to NYC to take this class and to spend time with her best friend Peter. When Peter finds out Debbie is cancelling the trip and her class in NYC Peter, being the friend Peter is, convinces Debbie to still come for her class and he'll go to L.A. to sit Debbie's son Jack. It's a deal. Debbie comes to NYC and Peter goes to L.A.. While Debbie is in NYC she befriends an old girlfriend of Peter as well as connects with a well known writer / publisher Theo Martin (played by Jesse Williams). You see Debbie has always wanted to be an editor because of her love of reading and guess what ... Peter has always wanted to be a writer. While staying at Peter's NYC apartment Debbie finds Peter's manuscript and gives it to Theo. I think the writing is on the wall what's going to happen next with Peter's manuscript. The hook to the story is that while the two have swapped cities for a week they've discovered in their new surroundings that they are actually in love with each other. The big question left to be answered is ... "how are the two going to confront each other?" Not going to tell you that ... but Andrew and Ted will surely let you know what they thought about "Your Place or Mine". Tune in as they break it down.
On this week's episode of "Streaming Without A Paddle" Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss / review the Netflix original "Dog Gone" starring Rob Lowe (John Marshall / dad), Johnny Berchtold (Fielding Marshall / son), Kimberly William-Paisley (Ginny Marshall / mom) and featuring Nick Peine (Nate / Fielding's best friend). Based on the true story about a family (the Marshalls) coming together to find the son's, Fielding, lost dog named Gronker. While hiking the Appalachian trail one day, Fielding's dog Gronker takes off chasing a fox and isn't to heard of for weeks. "Dog Gone" chronicles the lives and search for Gronker and how it helps a family not only come together but to work beyond their individual issues that for all involved seemingly resolves or at the least allows them to work through those personal issues. Listen as Andrew and Ted breakdown the movie and provide their opinions as to if the movie is a much watch or a "click past" movie.
This week Andrew & Ted sit down to discuss what they took away from Amazon Prime Video's original "Shotgun Wedding", starring Jennifer Lopez (Darcy Rivera) and Josh Duhamel (Tom Fowler) in this Romance / Comedy / Action movie. "Shotgun Wedding" is basically a "what can go wrong in the last 36 or so hours before Tom and Darcy tie the knot" movie. The short answer is ... apparently a lot!. Where do we start ... Darcy's old boy friend Sean (played by Lenny Kravitz) shows up, "unexpected to the bride and groom", to the rehearsal dinner via an entrance that has the table cloths blowing away, the bride (Jennifer Lopez) doesn't have cold feet about getting married, but feels the best time to discuss her displeasure about the wedding itself, planned by the groom (Josh Duhemel), is to discuss it with her husband to be as the guest are literally taking their seats ocean side for the ceremony itself. Did I forget to mention the pirates? But before I get to the pirates ... side stories ... bride's mom (played by Sónia Braga) and dad (played by Cheech Marin) are divorced, she's bitter and he's dating a woman half his age. There is however a neat little spin to that relationship (dad and younger woman) that won't be spoiled you'll have to watch and yes the bride's mom is bitter about the woman half ex-husband's age. Groom's parents (Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Coulter) seemingly have the most perfect marriage ... guess what ... they don't. Won't spoil that either. Granted the "truth" encompasses about a minute and a half of run time ... but is shockingly funny. By the way ... Jennifer Coolidge ... she brings her "A" game to her role. Okay ... the pirates. You see the wedding takes place on an island in the Philippines. Viewers are left with impression that this island and the single resort on it is a "budget" island / resort and Tom (Josh Duhamel) is seemingly constantly reminded of that at the beginning of the movie. Anyway ... the area is "known" for having pirates raiding boats and resorts and Darcy's and Tom's wedding seems like the perfect place to pick up a few "million bucks". Plot twist there ... won't spoil it for you. In the end ... there is a beautiful beach sunset and lots of music and dancing. At least for the cast and crew ... Andrew & Ted on the other hand weren't dancing after they watched it. Not to say they didn't like it ... but they found a singular reason why one might not like it. This week Andrew & Ted share their thoughts, after watching the first 3 episodes, about HBO Max's drama / global apocalyptic / zombie series "The Last of Us", starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. This screen adaptation of the wildly popular video game, follow Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they cross the post-fungal apocalyptic United States in an effort to get Ellie (Ramsey) from Boston to the west coast so that researchers may determine what is it that make Ellie immune to the fungal infection. Along the way, Joel and Ellie encounter flesh eating zombies and packs of cautious uninfected people looking to survive themselves. Ted was a fan and player of the game prior to the series dropping, while Andrew views the series as a stand alone series having not having know it was first a game. So the question becomes ... can the series stand up on it's own merit or is it propped up by the popularity of the game? Tune in to listen as Andrew and Ted break it all down.
This week Andrew & Ted take a look at the Jonah Hill / Kenya Barris Romantic Comedy "You People", starring Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Nia Long, and David Duchovny. It's a story about a racially and religious different couple Ezra (Jonah Hill) and Amira (Lauren London) falling in love and subsequently becoming engaged and their family trials and tribulations as they move towards their happy day while trying to blend their emotionally charged families all the while.
This week Andrew and Ted took in a double feature with "Emily the Criminal" and "White Noise". I think it is safe to say that Andrew and Ted wish they watched these two movies at a theater so that they could have hung out in the lobby playing arcade games. "Emily the Criminal" stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Rec and White Lotus Season 2) and Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy and Vendetta) in this crime / drama / thriller written and directed by John Patton Ford. On the flip side of this double feature coin took in "White Noise" starring Adam Driver (Star Wars and BlacKkKlansman), Greta Gerwig (Little Women and Lady Bird), and Don Cheadle (Iron Man and Oceans Series) in this book based (written by: Don DeLillo) story directed by Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story).
Tune in this week as Andrew and Ted discuss the HBO Max original "The Menu", starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, John Leguizamo, and Aimee Carrero. Penned by Will Tracy (Succession) and Seth Reiss (Late Night w/Seth Myers) and directed by Mark Mylod (Succession / Game of Thrones) is story about an acclaimed chef,played by Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel / Schindler's List, that has decided to prepare a final "menu" for those who have, in one way or another, affected his life. His final menu guest include the actor, played by John Leguizamo, that provided the performance in a movie that Chef felt wasted his one day off during his early career to the food critic, played by Janet McTeer (Ozark), that has personalized her reviews of Chef over the years to Tyler a foodie / want a be Chef, played by Nicholas Hoult (The Great / About a Boy), that has idolized Chef and has been in constant contact. The fly in the soup is the unexpected guest Margot, played by Anya Taylor-Joy (Queens Gambit / Last Night in Soho), for whom Chef has no beef with yet she causes him great angst as to how to handle her unexpected appearance in a situation where Chef is serving up payback with every course.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss Apple TV +'s, Will Smith starring, "Emancipation". "Emancipation" is story inspired by the iconic photo of "Whipped Peter", taken a slave named Peter in 1863 Louisiana. The storyline tells of a slave, Peter, ripped from his family from the plantation owned by Captain Lyons after being provided to the Confederate Army as part of a tax levy to plantation owners. Peter, along with 3 other slaves, escape the Confederate run railroad camp in hopes of making it to Baton Rouge where the Union Army was and people of color where now free. Days in the swamp from being chased by the Confederate camp escapee chaser Fassel (played by Ben Foster). Peter finally makes his way to an area controlled by the Union Army, his being chased are now over. Peter is now forced, due to a lack of moving forward options, to join the Union Army ... there he, along with his Union Army squad, return to the plantation of Captain Lyon as he searches for his family.
This week Andrew and Ted take a look at the second installment of the "Knives Out" mystery series. With an ALLSTAR cast, Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Madelyn Cline, and Dave Bautista one would think that this installment would come down to a single question ... does the script / story support this much talent. Tune in to find out what Andrew and Ted liked about the installment and what they didn't.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down to review the highly hyped Netflix series ... "Wednesday" staring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams along with Christina Ricci, Emma Myers, Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zata-Jones, and Luis Guzmán. The question now is ... are they buying into the hype or they throwing cold water on it?
This week Andrew and Ted downloaded the Roku App (FREE) to watch Daniel Radcliffe and a host of celebs in "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story". It wasn't what either was really expecting as this Funny or Die production caught them both of guard. Tune in to listen to Andrew and Ted talk about it and give their thoughts and feedback.
This week Andrew & Ted take a look at Lindsey Lohan's return after a decade away in this Netflix Christmas Movie. Lohan's character, Sierra Belmont, is taken to the top of a ski slope by her boyfriend, Tad Fairchild (played by George Young), so that he may propose to this hotel heiress girlfriend. The snow covered slopes are slippery and Sierra slips and falls down the slope. She comes to a stop when she hits her head on a tree. As she lays there unconscious she is discovered by small time motel owner Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet) and taken to the local hospital. Sierra's apparent injury is that the blow to her head has caused her to develop amnesia. With nowhere to go and no form of identification the hospital releases Sierra into the care of Jake Russell. Back at his motel Sierra learns to live the life that she was deprived of growing up with nanny's and staff. If this sounds like a ski lodge version of the 1987 romantic comedy "Overboard", starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, you would be absolutely correct.
Andrew and Ted take a big step back in time when they take time to watch the sequel to the 1982 classic "A Christmas Story" ... "A Christmas Story Christmas". Ralphie is forced to return to his hometown upon the news that his father, the Old Man, has passed away just prior to his favorite holiday ... Christmas. Ralphie does his best to keep that holiday cheer going during these difficult days, just as the Old Man would.
On this week's episode of "Streaming Without A Paddle" ... Andrew and Ted sat down and watched the Apple TV musical version of Charles Dickens / Scrooge, starring Will Ferrell & Ryan Reynolds with guest stars Sunita Mani, Octavia Spencer, and Tracy Morgan. Without going into detail one of your hosts watched with the remote in their hand while the other was seemingly a sponge. You might be surprised to find out which of your host fell into which category.
This week Andrew and Ted watched HBO Max's original "Don't Worry Darling", starring Florence Pugh (co-star Black Widow), Harry Styles, and Chris Pine. Tune in to get Andrew and Ted's honest opinion of this "The Truman Show" meets "Stepford Wifes" drama / thriller. Directed by Olivia Wilde.
This week Andrew & Ted review the Netflix original thriller series "The Watcher". Ted has been following the series since it's drop date back on October 13th and convinced Andrew to give it a try. Apple Studios builds “Raymond & Ray” as ... half-brothers Raymond and Ray who have lived in the shadow of a terrible father. Somehow, they still each have a sense of humor, and his funeral is a chance for them to reinvent themselves. There’s anger, there’s pain, there’s folly, there might be love, and there’s definitely grave digging. Tune in to find out what Andrew and Ted thought about the movie.
This week Andrew and Ted sit down and face off as the two share their takes on the Mark Wahlberg starring film "Father Stu". Based on the true life story of local Helena, Montana amateur boxer / drinker turned Los Angeles based actor turned priest, Stuart Long. Father Stu, as he is affectionately called, spent most of his life without religion but ends up finding Christ through his pursuit of seeking a romantic relationship with a girl. Andrew and Ted definitely have a difference of opinion about this movie with the exception of the performance turned in by the actors.
Andrew and Ted take a look at Apple TV's original release "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" starring Zac Efron as John "Chickie" Donohue. Based upon the story of the real John "Chickie" Donohue who decides, after his local bartender "The Colonel" (Bill Murray) plants the idea, to show his support of all the local boys fighting in Vietnam by taking them a beer from old neighborhood. So in "Chickie's" capacity as a merchant seaman scores a crew position on a freighter making a delivery to Saigon. Once there he convinces the merchant ship's captain that he needs a shore pass so that he can inform his non-existent step brother that his father is dead. Once granted, the almost blind adventure of delivering beers to his old neighbor buddies begins in earnest. Along the way "Chickie" encounters the reality of war and befriends war correspondent Arthur Coates (Russell Crowe) that helps him navigate the through the truth of what is actually happening in Vietnam.
