Getting To Yes With N.O.P.E.: Recent Episodes

David Flor

Someone once told me your network is your biggest asset. I am a firm believer in “building your brand” in any industry because you never know when that breakthrough moment could present itself for a better opportunity. I am happy to announce my podcast, “N.O.P.E.” The podcast's purpose is to hear stories of professionals within every respective industry and share the awareness of how they leveraged the acronym N.O.P.E. to break through to their success in their next venture by Networking, creating Opportunities, and being Prepared for those moments to Excel. This podcast is personal. My network is the reason why I was able to break into the Software/Tech landscape. Everyone, at some point in their lives, comes to a fork in the road where their current situation is no longer sustainable. Many people do not realize the opportunities in front of them through the people they know or eventually meet. Over the years, I have helped many professionals break through into the fields they were interested in, whether it is a complete career transition, furthering their education, or promotional growth. The podcast is for individuals to share their stories and support their journey but, more importantly, for you to take some key points that you could leverage and apply to your skill set to create breakthrough moments with N.O.P.E. The podcast takes those interactions I have had over the years and puts it in a form where you can hopefully take some points that you could leverage and apply to your skill set to create breakthrough moments with N.O.P.E. #NOPEpodcast #networking #professional #youngprofessionals #jobmarket #inspiration #podcast #jobopportunity #newjob

On the outside, software sales professional Billy Murphy seemed to find success easily.

He played NCAA Division I basketball at Lafayette College. Upon graduation, he landed a job at one of the biggest tech companies in Silicon Valley, Salesforce.

But his upward trek soon fell flat when once-a-week happy hours exploded into an alcohol addiction.

"I realized I can't keep drinking like this," Billy said. "I can't keep running my career based on numbers. I can't keep running everything I do in my life based on the validation from others, and I need to change something."

Find out how Billy Murphy used his network to help him in his fight to stay sober, then helped his career 'skyrocket' into another 'stratosphere.'

Army veteran Earl Miguel has gone from serving our country to working in tech and writing childrens' books.

The former special operations soldier has taken a unique path when it comes to his career. Instead of joining the military right out of high school, Miguel said he 'did it in reverse' and left a successful career as a graphic designer to join the military in his mid-20s.

Then from transitioning off of active-duty, Miguel hit another hurdle. "I remember feeling like there's no way there's life after the military," he said.

But with the help of @TheHonorFoundation and Miguel's large network of friends and colleagues, he eventually found the direction he is now heading in.

Matt Alexander may be one of the only tech executives who can brag about winning a Grammy AND an Academy Award.

But that's not what makes him interesting.

His story of surviving growing up on Chicago's south side, making it to#LosAngeles, finding success in the music industry while being on the verge of homelessness, being a caretaker for his grandparents, finding success in making films, and finally finding financial freedom while working in the tech industry...are some of the reasons why he's our first guest on the NOPE podcast.
