Happy Monday beautiful souls and welcome back (or hi if you're new) for another ep of LTP!

Today's solo episode is all about questions to ask your specialist before your laparoscopy! Seeing a new specialist for the first time can be daunting and overwhelming, or if you’ve been seeing them for a while and they suggest it could be time for surgery it can bring up those same feelings! I’ve got you covered with six questions to ask them before you have a laparoscopy. Make sure you write them down in a notebook or on your phone so you have them with you in your appointment — this will avoid you having that mind blank that comes when they say “any questions?”.

As mentioned at the top of the episode the Chronically Ill Christmas Gift Exchange is back again for 2022! Like Secret Santa, you're given a person to buy a $15-$20 gift for and then you send it to them, and you receive one yourself too! The questionnaire is now live, and you can submit your profile to then be matched with someone and spread the Christmas cheer. Fill it in here.

Today's episode is with Aleksija Mirkovic, or you may know her as dark-pop artist LEX. Born into a family from war-torn Serbia, music quickly became LEX’s escape and a way to express her emotions. With a multi-disciplinary advisory group of midwives, physiotherapists, obstetricians, gynaecologists, perinatal psychiatrists and clinical researchers, she is working to develop the resources and strategies to prevent and effectively manage birth-related trauma. Fancy seeing you here! It's Wednesday and that means it's definitely time for our latest episode and this one is with the lovely Summeet Seyan.

In this episode, Isabella sat down with Summeet Seyan, who was born and raised in Canada and the US, as a first generation Indian-Canadian, before moving to London with her husband, shortly after she was diagnosed with PCOS due to irregular and lengthy cycles. After 6 years of being on the pill and then working on her diet, Summeet was able to fall pregnant naturally and have her first child. Soon after, her periods returned and they were regular, so Summeet assumed everything was back to normal and her PCOS had eased. It was then when her periods became extremely heavy, so heavy that she needed iron and B12 injections. It was then another two and a half years before they would welcome their next child, and this time navigating yet another health system, with Summeet and her family having moved to Japan. After this birth her period returned quickly and as such her doctor suggested the Mirena, but after six months of sharp pelvic pain and discomfort she opted to have it removed. Most recently, Summeet calls Sydney home and has recently undergone a hysterectomy due to her severe symptoms. She aims to share more about her experiences with women's health and what it's like to navigate four different healthcare systems, whilst trying to advocate for yourself. Summeet is incredibly open, honest and raw in her recount of her experiences and we really think you'll connect with this one.

Happy Wednesday (AKA Let's Talk, Period. day) beautiful souls! We're soooo excited to share this ep with you!

This week Isabella sat down with Maddie Ossovani and Matt Cohen, the co-founders of Bloody Good (Bins), a Melbourne-based sanitary bin company fighting period taboo with gorgeous, colourful bins. They also donate 50% of their profits to projects that empower women in low-income countries. Bloody Good is entirely self-funded and currently has about a dozen customers, but their dream is to one day have a Bloody Good Bin in every commercial bathroom stall in Australia. In this episode we talk about what led them to start Bloody Good, how they actually took their idea of creating colourful, quirky sanitary bins into an actual physical product and why they feel there is such a stigma around periods and disposing of period products. We also talk why they are so passionate about being a social enterprise, and the impact they've been able to create as a result, plus SO much more!

If you enjoyed our chat with Mads and Matt and want to keep up to date with them and the Bloody Good team, you can follow Bloody Good on Instagram right here @bloodygoodbins or you can head to their website here! Happy Wednesday you gorgeous souls! We hope that you're having an amazing week and this episode can give you a little mood booster, if you're not!

In this episode, Isabella chats with Khalehla Ireland, founder of Real Women Talk. Khalehla has been battling with PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and the nasty symptoms for years, with the last 12 months being the worst. She felt isolated and left with little information about the illness and why she was feeling the way she was, and according to modern medicine it was ‘normal’.. Khalehla decided that it wasn’t good enough to feel this way, and she was the only one who could change that. She began searching that although modern medicine was helpful, there were also other alternative options available to assist in managing her condition.

In 2019, she launched Real Women talk to have an open space, where women could come together and gain knowledge, as well as for Khalehla to share the positive changes she was making and to hold herself accountable. In this episode we talk more about Khalehla’s journey with PCOS, what she includes in her toolkit and her morning routine, we also hear about the education she received around periods, and why she feels more needs to be done to improve the education of young women. We also hear about the journey behind Real Women Talk, the impact it has had in the community and what's coming up next for Khalehla!
