Before I transitioned back to Georgia, I had the privilege to reflect over my journey in Japan with my friend, Chiaki, in the beautiful scenery of Nagano glamping resort.

We talked about the nuances of holistic wellness and practices of the Japanese culture. I also shared what I miss about living in Japan and I plan to integrate those practices when I return home to Georgia.

By far, living abroad has been one of the most life changing experiences in my life, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity.

Grief is a single experience ... you and you alone cycle through the stages of grief when it greets you.

Rarely do we share the opportunities that grief afford us after a loss.  When grief finds us we naturally  focus on the anguish of our pain and fight to re-center our psyche to a place of peace.  If we pause and reflect on these experiences, we can notice the drastic ways we've changed.  We also discover the gifts of strength that this unspeakable grief has afforded us.

This episode points out the hidden strengths of grief.  Whether we realize it or not, grief is a change agent and guess what? It is not always a change agent for defeat.  It has often pushes us  out of our comfort zones, forces us to evolve, and find a new normal.  These new normal encounters invites us to unlearn what we thought we knew so that we may be open to new ways of doing things.  I am learning that these changes has gave me the strength to exit toxic situations and ways of thinking.

Tune in with me as I share my journey in discovering my strengths through grief.

Being and living single is a state of mind no matter your marital status.

Yes! There are economic and social differences among those who are either legally married or single. However, maintaining a single mindset is not confined to the notions we've been taught by society or even the church:

"Being Single" is:

  • A selfish lifestyle
  • Daunting and forever lonely
  • Unfulfilling a.k.a  something is wrong with you if you remain unmarried pass a certain age.

INSTEAD, singleness or a single mindset can also be defined as:

  • A self care practice
  • A lifestyle of discipline
  • A healthy way to mentally or physically removing oneself from toxic relationship or environments.

A "single mindset" is applicable to married people as well!  We were never taught about the gems of wisdom that our single life affords us like learning our identity or affirming our personal boundaries.

This podcast series, "The Single Movement" empowers us both married and single alike to reclaim our single mindsets and incorporate it into our everyday lives. This series will challenge the stereotypes around the topic of singlehood, and will hopefully leave listeners with a different perspective about what it means to live and be single.

PART 2,  Episode 2: (Singlehood Focused)

After releasing Part 1 of "Singlehood vs. Mental Health," I was asked why did I use "vs." instead of "and"?  I replied it was because normally society does not equate the struggles of adult singles and mental well-being together; it's often isolated.  There is this grand assumption that single people has it made without any responsibility.  As a result, less grace and compassion is given to those who live single lives.

My hope is for listeners to take away a different perspective about living single and investing in one's mental health.  Hopefully, listeners will leave empowered and informed.

This episode features a dear friend of mine, Jenna, who shares her experiences as a single woman while managing her mental well-being.

Enjoy.

This series is near and dear to me as I speak my truth about the myths of singlehood and the stigma of mental health.  I had the pleasure of diving into this conversation with my friend, Sam, who shed light from a male perspective as a single man.

This conversation is unfiltered and consists vivid accounts of challenges and opportunities that both Sam and I have experienced as members of the single population. We also share similar beliefs mental health among Black America.

Check it out and share your thoughts.

Hi, Ms. Broadway Therapy here! Welcome to iSpeak My Truth Podcast!

In recognition of Mental Health awareness month, I am kicking off a podcast about various topics that challenges our mental wellbeing and how to navigate balancing a healthy way of coping, and hopefully healing.  The first topic is about unresolved closure (a.k.a. Faceless Closure).

I invited two guests Letita B and Spice Girl to a roundtable discussion about our experiences with unresolved closure and how we  are navigating our healing journey.

Thank you for tuning in!

Each episode will be followed by a spoken word performance by yours truly, Ms. Broadway Therapy, and a commentary confessional about the history/inspiration behind the poetry.   Follow me on IG at msbroadwaytherapy for more dialogue about holistic wellness.
