"Get in the Mud" is a podcast dedicated to exploring the messy progression of healing, growth, and the human experience. Real transformation requires us to get dirty, actively taking responsibility for the one thing in life we CAN control: ourselves. Life is not linear, neat, or perfect and neither are we. We cannot change who we pretend to be, but we can change who we truly are when we own it fully, mess and all.
Hello there! Welcome back to Get in the Mud. Today, we're embarking on a journey into the intricate landscapes of our minds, exploring the transformative approach of Internal Family Systems. I'm your host, Lacey Dean, and I'm thrilled to be your guide as we shine the light on the layers of our internal worlds and discover the power of achieving harmony within.

Guys... it's been a WILD few months, to say the least.
I never, I mean NEVER, thought I'd be making this episode.
As someone with years of religious trauma and frustration with the western church, I actively left the faith with zero intention of coming back.
I knew I had a real relationship with the 'divine' and deeply desired that connection but was done with organized religion. After deconstructing my beliefs about Christianity, my curiosity lead me into a life of seeking truth and enlightenment via other avenues. I dove headfirst into eastern beliefs, spirituality, new age practices, and the occult. I was addicted to marijuana, obsessed with tarot, began getting trained in reiki in order to incorporate it in my business when everything flipped upside down..
This is my story.
I will never have enough words to thank God for what He did for me. He saved me from so much darkness and is transforming my heart.
Glory to God, forever and ever. My life is Yours.
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 AMP
"But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;..
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
nations in exchange for your life.
Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.
I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’
Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
Lead out those who have eyes but are blind,
who have ears but are deaf.
All the nations gather together
and the peoples assemble.
Which of their gods foretold this
and proclaimed to us the former things?
Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right,
so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”
“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
nor will there be one after me.
I, even I, am the Lord,
and apart from me there is no savior.
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—
I, and not some foreign god among you.
You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.
Yes, and from ancient days I am he.
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?”
Isaiah 43:1-13

Trigger Warning: Abuse, manipulation, gaslighting, narcissistic abuse.
Please know you are not alone, and there are resources available to help you along your journey of reclaiming yourself and navigating life after abuse. Please contact The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1 (800) -799-7233 for more in depth resources and support.
The chaotic roller coaster ride of emotions, unstable foundations, walking on eggshells to avoid world war 3, never feeling safe, yet feeling tied to them still.. The 'hidden' subtle nature of abuse doesn't ever feel subtle, and today we're going to bring it to light.
Toxic (unhealthy) relationships are something we will all face over the course of our lives, in some form of another. Whether it's within a family structure, intimate relationships, the workplace, psychological manipulation and abuse robs us of our relationship to our authentic self, true presence, and the divine connection of our intuition.
In today's solo episode, I share my story about unhealthy relationships stemming from childhood and leading me into various other abusive patterns throughout my life. Please know that you are not alone, this isn't your fault, and your liberation and healing is completely possible. I am a living testament that a vibrant, fulfilling life after exists for YOU not matter what you've experienced.
I want nothing more than to see you step into your power. I promise you, there's hope.
Sending you so much love, today and always.

Get in the Mud Family, It's SO good to be back!
Buckle up, we're challenging narratives.
I am beyond excited to share this episode with you. I had the pleasure of connecting with El Divine Niño, an Artist, Poet, Guide & Actor, and Podcaster who's passion is the human condition. In this conversation, we dive into the concept of narratives, the stories we tell ourselves (and others), and how they are keeping us stuck. If you are struggling, feeling disempowered, questioning, hurting, or have any desire to re-write your story, this episode is for YOU!
"The meaning of El Divine Niño: the divine inner child exists belongs to you. According to the laws of karma the inner child reflects your unfulfilled desires, which compel you to reawaken to the rebirth of the present.
El Niño is a manifestation of the collective unconscious, a testament to the potential You hold within- the divine child.
Every one of us holds divinity and potential. However, it is locked within the inner child. Your life serves an opportunity to heal that child; unlocking your deepest potential, and transmuting the energy and emotions that once paralyzed you into a driving force for creativity & growth."

"Trust: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something one in which confidence is placed." Merriam-Webster
Trust: SO many of us have experienced life without it.
Personally, from as early as I can remember, I saw the world through the lens of broken trust, unsafe people, and painful experiences. Little by little, I began building a shield of armor around my heart that I felt would protect me from experiencing that inevitable rupture.
I began numbing the negative and by default, numbing it all.
How do we learn to trust once our perception of 'safety' and 'security' have been shattered?
How do we build a solid sense of trust within ourselves after manipulation, gaslighting, and abuse?
How do we lean into the uncertainty of the unknown having experienced real difficulties that have shaped us, our nervous systems, and our realities?
If you've struggled with trust issues, whether within yourself or in relation to others, this episode is for you!
Topics discussed: Trust, learning to trust, trust after abuse, gaslighting, narcissistic abuse, generational abuse, manipulation, safety, divorce.

@brenebrown said it best...
" We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we can't have both. Not at the same time.”

How ready are you to start owning your experience of life, in the fullest?

Self-Sabotage: have you ever known 'better' but actively not chosen it? Do you feel stuck in patterns, historical roadblocks, wondering why ____ has so much power over you? This episode is for you.
Self-sabotage has a way of breaking us down to the core. When we make choices that are out of alignment with our higher self, the truest part of who are, our purpose, to God, we begin to erode the very relationship we need the most: the one with ourselves.
This is episode, Tanya and Lacey break down self-sabotage and how to overcome it one messy, gentle step at a time.

There are micro-griefs that impact us on a daily basis. The consistent 'small' disappointments that lead to a cloud of heaviness that just lingers. Then there's the grief that knocks your feet out from beneath you, shakes your very concept of reality, life, and self.. Grief is no joke. And we don't have to face it alone.
Lacey shares about her experience navigating a life full of consistent grief and disappointments, what has helped her, and what she has learned along the way.
There are hidden treasures in the darkness and wisdom in the spaces we so readily avoid.
Sending you so much love wherever and whenever this episode finds you.

Meditation: What is it ACTUALLY and why the heck should you be doing it?!
We all know it's vitally important to slow down and rest on a physical level, but rarely do we talk about the deep restorative rest we need on a cognitive, mental level.

Even if you have zero experience with meditation, this episode is for you!

"What is a leader? The willingness to say, 'I'll go first.'"
In this episode, I wanted to be real. The messy, honest, overwhelming 'real' that many of us face alone on a daily basis.
People always knew me from my external reality, but little did they know the reality of my internal suffering. I hid behind my performance, 'confidence', and success, but my life was riddled with pain. I was broken in every way, shame was my middle name, and I had zero self-worth.. but my story didn't end there.
Your story doesn't end here, either.
There is immense power in vulnerability and truth. I hope this message encourages you, pushes you, and reminds you of the limitless power that you are.
Sending you love, always.
In this solo episode, we get deep into our perception of ourselves and why it matters. If you have been going through it, this episode is for you.

Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries! What are they, what they're not, and why the heck are they so important.
In this solo episode, we explore boundaries in the light of intimacy, self-trust, and honoring our truth. When we fully acknowledge ourselves, the essence and inner child behind the needed boundary, we can approach boundaries from a place of love. How do we set boundaries in a way that can be received, heard, and respected? How do we build trust within ourselves?

In this solo episode, we are looking at the topic of building and cultivating trust within ourselves.
What does it mean to really trust?
How do we cultivate safety in a world that feels completely out of control?
Is it really that important to build a strong sense of loyalty, worth, and commitment to ourselves?
Are we participating in cycles, patterns, or behaviors that leave us feeling powerless, lost, or confused?
Let’s get messy. Love you to pieces. ox

In this conversation, we dove into the topic of surrender. What does that even mean? How do we actually do it? What does it really mean to "let go and let God"?

In life, we are often presented with opportunities to make vows.. and I’m not talking about the kind you make at a wedding.
There are moments in life that break us to the point we promise ourselves, “I will never allow or feel this again.” We make a vow within ourselves that we will prevent this pain, this loss, these emotions, from ever happening again no matter the cost. We perceive the world through that space, we close off, we shut down, we build walls, we defend. Our hearts become hardened.
What does it mean to remain soft in a world destined to change you?
What would it mean to stand in your power and in vulnerability?
What's the difference between a boundary and a wall?
Join me in today’s episode where I challenge our outdated vows, beliefs, and systems so we can begin living life, not just surviving it.

Where do we begin..
Stepping into the world of healing, growth, and transformation can often feel very overwhelming. Fully looking at ourselves is brave and courageous work. There are so many resources, voices, opinions, and strategies available to us. Such tools can help us tremendously on our journey, but they can also leave us feeling like our own individual process 'must' or 'should' look a certain way in order to be valid. In this episode, we explore the importance of cultivating curiosity within ourselves first in order to see and address the truth that lies beneath.
