Defining disruption is a lot harder than it may seem. A thorough review of the literature across numerous countries, all leading to a question in this research on the importance of the learning environment. Caroline's research was greatly influenced by the work of Csikzentmihaly. A brilliant man whose research provides a foundation to the impact of flow on activities undertaken. Taking this work and linking it to other research around decision making adn positive psychology provide teh basis for a key turning point in Carolines research. When we redirect a student we are making a choice to interact around inappropriate behaviour. Conflict can be caused through not knowing our boundaries and often waiting too long to have the redirection. The opportunity to bounce back to learning conversations can also be a cause of escalation.

The two most overrated statements made by teachers to describe why they have less disruption are that my reputation precedes me and they are just a good class. Teachers who make these statements do a few things differently, they work hard and they show up consistently. There is a significant difference between observing teaching and teachers. When we move to a purpose of observing teaching, we set the platform for learning from others as well as with others. Using the Four Dimensions provides a framework in which data informs decision-making, through watching how others are different to us, not better, not worse - different. When we build teams that do not focus on the individuals, we fail before we start. Autonomy and workload are challenges in any team's success. When we focus on classroom behaviour management, we get more of what we are focussed on. From my research there was a clear difference between teachers who had a classroom behaviour management focus and those who genuinely had a curriculum first classroom focus. When we listen, we often do so to imagine how it feels to walk in someone else's shoes. This is based on reconciling their feelings and values with our own. I truly see that good coaching does not try to walk in the shoes of another, they listen and do so with the wholehearted intention to believe what the other person says. Empathy and understanding are not needed when you listen with the intention to believe what the other person is telling you. Listen so that someone else feels heard, not understood.

Do you believe that people can see more with their peripherals just by making an effort to look around them, even if they lack coordination?
When we look around, our eyes can pick up on things and see more. It's a skill all humans have but many people don't take advantage of it because they're used to looking at one thing instead-a screen or paper while trying not to get distracted by other objects that may appear sharper than usual due their proximity from focal point.
And it is the same thing when I talk about the act of teachers looking around their teaching and learning space. Very similar to what teachers have done in the past, we want to shift our peripheral vision to be looking for students who are meeting our expectations.
