American Political Paradise is a podcast about politics and how it impacts everyone from myself to you to the government. Former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in his New York hush money trial on May 30th, 2024. Trump will be sentenced on July 11th, 2024 in the New York state courthouse. Could Trump be sentenced to jail or even Prison? We will find out on July 11th.

New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez was indicted or charged on Friday September 22nd, 2023 with corruption offenses for the 2nd time in 10 years. Senator Menendez was indicted on allegations him & his wife accepted more than $600,000 in bribes from a group of New Jersey businessmen on behalf of interests in Egypt. The prosecutors have accused Bob Menendez & his wife Nadine Arslanian of taking in cash, gold bars, a luxury car & a mortgage on their home in return for helping the businessmen. As a result of the prosecutors investigation, the FBI found nearly $500,000 in cash & more than $100,00 in gold at Menendez's home in a raid last year apparently payment for the bribes.Since his indictment, nearly 2 dozen Senators have called on Menendez to resign from the United States Senate. In more troubling news in this scandal, Senator Bob Menendez has not resigned from the US Senate as a result of his indictment.

United States Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away or died on evening of September 28th, 2023. She was the first woman mayor of San Francisco, California, first woman to serve as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first female Senator from California, first female chair of Senate Rules & Intelligence committees, first woman to serve on Senate Judiciary Committee and the first woman to serve as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Mitch McConnell has been a United States Senator representing the people of Kentucky since 1984. McConnell is currently serving his 7th six year term as a Senator in the U.S. Senate. There are more and more questions arising about his health & ability to serve in the Senate because he has had two incidents this year where he froze up when he was speaking to reporters. Senator McConnell is 81 years old and is one of the least liked & unpopular Senators in the Senate. He is not the only member of the U.S. Senate whose health and ability to serve have been questioned this year. A grand jury in Georgia handed down an indictment to Former President Trump & 18 allies of his on-state charges coming from Trump's efforts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia. Trump surrendered to authorities at the Georgia Fulton County jail on Thursday August 24th, 2023. Trump and all 18 of his co-defendants had until noon on Friday August 25th, 2023 to turn themselves in at the Fulton County jail. All of Trump's 18 co-defendants did indeed turn themselves in to the Fulton County jail before Friday August 25th, 2023. When Trump surrendered to authorities at the Fulton County jail , he was fingerprinted, booked with his height, weight, and hair description and he had to pose for his mugshot picture. Former President Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury in special counsel Jack Smith's 2020 election interference probe on Tuesday August 1st, 2023. Whoever wins the White House in November of 2024 will be important because that person Republican or Democrat could nominate possibly two Supreme Court Justices during their presidential term. That is if Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were to retire in the near future after the 2024 presidential election. If Democrats and Republican registered voters hear about these rumors, then voters should be more eager and ready to vote for their preferred 2024' Presidential candidate in next years presidential primaries in their home state. If I was a Republican or Democratic Presidential candidate, I would be talking to voters about what kind of Supreme Court justice I would nominate if given the chance. The stakes in the 2024' Presidential election are high since there's older justices on the high court of the United States that could retire in the near future.

Special counsel Jack Smith, has been in charge of coordinating federal investigations related to former president. Trump was indicted with federal charges relating to the Mar-a-lago classified documents investigation resulting out of Trump's FBI Mar-a-lago resort August 8th, 2022 raid. This indictment has more potential to be a serious criminal charge & trial than Trump's Manhattan hush money scheme trial. According to CNN Trump is facing a charge under the Espionage Act as well as charges of obstruction of justice, destruction or falsification of records, and conspiracy & false statements. Current United States President Joe Biden announced on April 25th, 2023 that he is running for re-election seek another four year term as President of the U.S. It is likely that the 2024' U.S. Presidential election could be another re-match between Biden & Trump. However, that could change depending on if a Republican Presidential Candidate beats Trump in the Presidential Primaries next year. There have been more Democrats and Republicans who recently announced their official Democratic or GOP Presidential bids such as RFK jr, Larry Elder, and Asa Hutchinson. This is why I updated the list of Presidential candidates in today's episode. Is President Joe Biden too old to be re-elected to another four year term as President? On April 4th, 2023 Former President Trump had his arraignment in the Manhattan DA's office and a Manhattan courthouse building where he surrendered and was arrested. Trump pleaded not guilty to the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the hush money scheme he was indicted for. He will be going to trial on December 4th, 2023 which is right before the Republican Presidential primaries start. These developments are the latest in Trump's latest legal battles after being indicted and having his arraignment on April 4th, 2023. Former United States President Donald Trump was indicted by a Manhattan Grand jury on March 30th 2023. He was indicted because he was involved in a hush money scheme with adult film/porn star Stormy Daniels. This is a first time in American history ever that a United States President and a Former President has been indicted criminally. CNN says Trump is expected to appear in court for his arraignment this coming Tuesday afternoon. Trump's attorney also told CNN Trump will certainly voluntarily surrender to New York law enforcement and plans to file legal challenges. The Manhattan district attorney's office had been investigating Trump relating to his involvement with the hush money payment scheme involving Stormy Daniels dating back to the 2016' Presidential election. There will be more developments for this legal case for Trump this coming week as he is going to be arraigned in court in New York City.

Earlier this month a train derailment and chemical spill happened in the town of East Palestine, Ohio. This town is 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and about 21 miles south of Youngstown, Ohio. There are still more and more developments in this horrible event that recently happened. Representative George Santos who is a member of the House of Representatives, and who represents New York's 3rd district is an embattled and frankly an embarrassment to the Republican Party as a brand has not resigned from Congress. On January 3rd, 2023 all of the House members-elect are brought in to the House of Representatives chamber to elect their new Speaker of the House for the newly elected 118th session of Congress. The House members-elect are not even sworn in through their oath to the constitution until after they elect a Speaker of the House chamber. No official business of the House chamber is even allowed to proceed on until a new House Speaker is chosen by a majority of the House Representatives within the Majority party. Now Kevin McCarthy has to make sure he has enough Republican members-elect to receive the 218 votes needed to become the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives chamber. Ruth Bader Ginsburg a former Supreme Court Justice who passed away on September 18th, 2020 will be remembered by Americans through being honored on a new postage forever stamp next year. The United States House Select Committee investigating the January 6th 2021 attack are holding public hearings airing on TV. There have been two hearings on January 6th so far. The committee showed video footage during the first hearing on June 9th, 2022 of moments leading up to the attack on the capitol. In the video footage they showed then on June 9th were parts of the actual Insurrection attack on the Electoral Certification with a joint session of Congress featuring all members of Congress and then Vice President Mike Pence. We know January 6th 2021 as the day Democracy was nearly taken away from America. These hearings will inform the American public about how Former President Donald Trump orchestrated this attack to make sure Biden was not declared the official winner in the 2020 American Presidential election. As we all know from November 2020's election Donald Trump never officially conceded the race to President Joe Biden. In the past two months, President Joe Biden nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of The United States of America. She is currently participating in her confirmation hearings to await confirmation vote from the whole U.S. Senate for her to officially become a United States Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. To put this in perspective, if confirmed by the Senate she would be the first ever ever black woman to be a Justice on the Supreme Court. Ketanji Brown Jackson has served as a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since confirmed in 2021. However, she also was vice chair of the United States Sentencing Commission from 2010 to 2014. Brown Jackson has many other judicial and law positions on her long resume. She is very qualified to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She has a very indeed measured and diverse background and experience. On February 24th, 2022 Russia started a full size invasion of Ukraine. This must have been Vladimir Putin's dream and wish all along. Putin, the leader of Russia has wanted to capture and take hold of Ukraine more than likely since he captured parts of Crimea back in 2014. Now in this episode, I explain and further go deeply into the history of the Russia-Ukraine conflicts over the many years they have had disagreements and conflicts. Ever since the Late January President Biden and Justice Breyer retirement announcement, everyone now knows what kind of person President Biden is looking for when replacing Breyer. Arizona House speaker recently did not allow election reform bill to be passed in the Arizona House chamber of their state legislature. The bill proposed by Arizona state representative John Fillmore allowed the legislature the power to reject primary and/or general election results. Now, this is where I would raise a red flag and say that's illegal and against the alienable rights we have as Americans to have Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Voting Rights are a non-negotiable deal when it comes to a citizen's right and responsibility to hold government officials accountable. This proposed legislation in Arizona statehouse would have denied voters the ability to vote through early/absentee ballots. Voters need to be able to know their vote counts and is not looked down by being rejected because their state lawmakers do not like the results from the voters. Senators in the upper chamber of Congress are allowed to write and change the rules of their chamber depending on which party is in control of the Senate Chamber during the current session of Congress. The Senate's Nuclear option is a metaphor for changing the vote-threshold of legislation and nominees from 60 votes to 51. When the Senate is not using the Nuclear Option, it takes 60 votes to end debate on a law or bill and then the Senators can vote on a bill and either pass the legislation or not pass it and possibly even continue working on that law until they can all agree to pass it. But as the Senate stands right now until the start of the new Congress session in January 2023 starts, there is fifty Republican Senators and fifty Democratic Senators in the upper chamber of Congress. When necessary Vice President Harris may as the President of the Senate cast a tie breaking vote when Senators vote fifty to fifty for a piece of legislation in consideration. That's where the Democrats in the Senate have to be careful with possibly changing the rules of the Senate to allow for the usage of the Nuclear Option. You would think the answer is no. However, as it turns out House of Representatives members can vote for someone who is not a member of the lower chamber. For example, theoretically Trump could get enough votes for the nomination to be Speaker only if enough Republicans defect away from voting for Kevin McCarthy. The House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022' earlier this year in September, therefore this legislation has been on the calendar for the Senate since the 18th of October 2021. Sean Parnell has suspended or ended his US Senate Pennsylvania race after losing custody of his children and divorcing from his wife. Which now begs the question of who will enter the highly contested Republican race for the Republican nomination for the 2022 US Senate Election in Pennsylvania. Sean Parnell's exit begs this question because the Republicans in the US Senate need a Republican from Pennsylvania to win the highly contested seat of Senator of Pennsylvania Pat Toomey who is leaving the US Senate after his term ends in 2022'. Republicans are gaining steam in Pennsylvania with some potential contenders for this Senate seat race such as Doctor Mehmet Oz, and David McCormick who are both political outsiders just like how Former President Trump was a political outsider in 2016. The Population and Housing Census within the United States is selectively happening every ten years. Census comes into handy when you explain what Gerrymandering is and how it is used and manipulated across the United States political spectrum and across various states. To simply state Gerrymandering is when state legislatures redraw their congressional and state district maps according to their state results from a census that took place in their state. Gerrymandering can be difficult to understand at first time you hear about, but it should be easy to understand once you learn more about it. On November 17th, 2021 the House of Representatives passed a House Resolution Censuring Rep. Paul Gosar, a Republican of Arizona through a chamber vote of 223 vs. 207 with one member voting present. The House censured him because he recently tweeted a anime video of him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and swiping a sword toward President Biden. This censure from the House of Representatives is the first time in more than ten years the House chamber passed a resolution censuring a member of the chamber. However in this episode I go further into why Gosar should be careful with how he acts as a sitting member of Congress because he needs to represent his constituents' views and values of the most pressing issues citizens of his district in Arizona are dealing with. In America right now, a lot of ordinary citizens do not even understand what a censure passed by either chamber of Congress does or implements for a sitting lawmaker, President, cabinet official, and judge within the United States. Senator Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont has announced he will not be running for a ninth term in the United States Senate next year. So what does that mean exactly? This means his open Senate seat for Vermont opens up the way for a new Democrat or Republican to represent the state of Vermont in the U.S. Senate for a six year term. Also Senator Leahy is the current President Pro Tempore of the Senate. To which he leads the Senate whenever the Vice President is not present in the chamber and in other circumstances. President Pro Tempore is the third person in the presidential line of succession after the Speaker of the House. Essentially, this elected position of the Senate is very important to the Senate functions and the Presidential line of succession as well as Vice Presidential duties. Leahy was first elected to the Senate in 1974 during the time of Watergate scandal and the Nixon presidency. This Senator has served from the age of thirty-four to when he retires from the Senate in 2022 or 2023 ; which he will be 82 years old. Both chambers of Congress in the United States passed a piece of legislation that is called the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Now it is in its final stage of being a bill, which is awaiting the commander in chief's signature or veto on the/a bill. There's a one hundred percent chance President Biden is going to sign this legislation because he believes legislation is necessary and he campaigned on this issue when running to be the next President of the United States. November 2nd, 2021 had a lot of history unfold all over the United States of America chapter of political history. Virginia elected its first Republican Governor in twelve years; virginians elected Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin to become their next Governor Virginia. However, voters in Virginia also elected a Republican candidate to be their Lieutenant governor as well as the next attorney general of Virginia. Big cities and towns across America elected or in some cases re-elected their slate of candidates for their Mayoral position. Boston made history by electing Boston's first ever women of Asian American descent Michelle Wu to become their next Mayor. Many people probably have never heard of a President of the United States being able to use what is called "Executive Privilege". Did you realize every President since Warren G. Harding has had the ability to choose a person to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget? The Office of Management and Budget or (OMB) as it is commonly referred to, is an essential part of our American Government we supervise or watch over every day of our lives. This central part of a President's administration or government is responsible for overseeing the placement of a President's agenda stretching all over the Executive Branch. Within this department of the federal government, OMB watches and oversees any cabinet level department budget and plan for executing and using their stated money within their fiscal year's money allocated to them from Congress. Office of Management and Budget though according to Wikpedia is the biggest office in the Executive Office of the President of The United States. North Carolina's David Price and Pennsylvania's Mike Doyle have announced they are not going to run for another two year term to represent their congressional districts in the House of Representatives in Congress. This means more and more Democrats are realizing Republicans have a great chance of taking back the House chamber of Congress in the 22' midterm elections in the United States. However, Representative Mike Doyle is saying he is retiring from Congress due to a pending redistricting process in his home state of Pennsylvania. Mike Doyle was first elected to Congress in 1994, and Price in 1986. That brings up the important issue of term limits for all members of Congress. Each representative in the House chamber is elected to a two year term, while in the Senate chamber of Congress a Senator is voted in for a duration of six year term. But those do not limit members of Congress from running for their position of Congress over and over and over again. Democrats in U.S. Congress are trying to fund the government pass December along with three other legislative priorities. As you might know, Mike Pence was our former Vice President of the United States when former President Donald Trump was in office from 2017 to January 20th, 2021.
