In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I’m thrilled to introduce Dominiece Clifton. Dominiece is a serial entrepreneur, coach, and business branding strategist who empowers aspiring female entrepreneurs to create exit strategies to ditch their 9-to-5 jobs and live more fulfilling lives.

In this episode, she’s sharing a pivotal moment for her that came up during the pandemic. Like most of us during that time, Dominiece was facing personal and professional challenges. It was through a meditation practice that she created a 90-day challenge focused on nurturing her mind, body, and spirit, leading her to discover her passion for entrepreneurship as a wellness coach. Together we reflect on how the pandemic provided many of us with a necessary pause to reevaluate our lives.

Now, 4 years later she is thriving! She’ll share her methods for maintaining consistency despite life’s challenges, her experiences with astrology and human design, and the importance of setting clear boundaries to balance entrepreneurship and motherhood.

Welcome back to Common Wealth Conversations. I'm your host, Lynzie Smith.

I recently turned 36 and I'm really excited to come into this space and share a bit more of my own vulnerability and my heart as I continue through my own entrepreneurial journey. In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I wanted to reflect on 36 life lessons that I've learned over this last year.

I've had another immense year of growth, and at times it’s felt like change has been coming at me from all vantage points! I feel like my growth has rippled through most of my relationships in my personal and professional life, including my most important relationship with myself. I’ve been pivoting and evolving continuously, and I’m focused on supporting like-minded female entrepreneurs, founders, and CEOs through my own experiences. My hope and intention is to connect with those of you who see yourselves in my journey.

If you’re listening to this episode and it feels a bit too on the personal side for you, I’ve also redirected these 36 life lessons into business-related insights on my LinkedIn. Check out my LinkedIn profile!

As entrepreneurs, we often face challenges that test us both personally and professionally.

This episode is a testament to the transformative power of embracing change and finding new paths. I am thrilled to have Ben Mollin on the show today. He’s a celebrity hairdresser turned endurance athlete, who, in his words, "killed his career instead of himself," and is now a ‘California sober’ ultra-runner focused on suicide prevention.

His story is so powerful, it is going to resonate with you in so many ways. Ben's story is the definition of resilience and reinvention and honestly as an entrepreneur myself, I've already learned so much from him. Today's conversation is deep. As a trigger warning, we're talking about loss, mental health, suicide prevention and survival. Trust me when I say that Ben's honesty and vulnerability will move you. I am rarely in tears on this podcast, Ben's ability to tell his story is next level. He's the first to share that sometimes stepping away is exactly what we need to open up new doors in our lives.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ben last year at Beauty Gives Back (shout out to BGB!) and our conversations really stuck with me. I’m so excited to give him a big hug at the upcoming Beauty Gives Back event hosted on Sunday, September 15th, just outside of Chicago. If you’re in the Midwest, there’s still time to grab a ticket, grab yours now! If you’re attending, I’d love to meet you in person—please say hi if you spot me! For those unable to attend in person, click here to follow Beauty Gives Back on social media to follow along virtually through IG Stories and stay connected for information on future events.

In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I’m sharing some key takeaways from the Beauty Biz Brunch, hosted by Brandi Taylor. She is a coach and the host of the Beauty Biz Network Podcast. Have you ever felt the urge to pivot in your career but weren’t sure if you were making the right choice?

In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, Maila Snow is here to share her journey of transition. Maila began her career with a childhood dream of becoming a hairstylist—a dream she pursued passionately for 14 years. But after having her son, Maila’s path took a significant turn. She transitioned from being behind the chair to supporting other hair stylists as a Virtual Assistant.

While she quickly booked new clients as a VA, she realized her true passion came from the connection calls she’d host with the busy entrepreneurs she was supporting. So many were overwhelmed and burnt out, Maila would hold space for their frustrations week after week.

After some time, she decided to double down and seek out certifications to become a facilitator in meditation and breathwork. In this episode, we’ll dive into Maila's intention behind shifting from a career as a hairstylist to life coaching, the themes she observed in mindset work, and the impactful practices she’s encouraged her clients to embrace as busy entrepreneurs.

If you’re seeking inspiration for your own career pivot or looking for signs that it’s time for a change, Maila’s sharing her own experiences of transition, how she recognized when she was ready for change, and the cues she looked for to find her purpose.

In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I’m sharing another inside look into one of our previous cohort containers with a conversation on Systems & Routines and how both benefit entrepreneurs in creating efficiency and balance.

Want to be more productive, less stressed, reduce your anxiety, be more organized, and ultimately achieve a better balance in your day to day? In working with dozens of entrepreneurs through different seasons of their life and business, I’ve seen a very consistent growth pattern in those that develop systems and routines. Even for myself, the more I commit to my own routines, the better I feel.

If you’re feeling like you are always behind, constantly trying to catch up, and not making enough progress in your day-to-day life, it may be because you need to implement some systems and maybe brush up on your morning, midday, and evening routines. As I always tell my coaching clients, you first need to fill your own cup in order to fully support others. Serve from overflow and you’ll never burnout!

Entrepreneurs often think of systems and routines as constraining. We want more spontaneity and the freedom to steer ourselves in any direction. While spontaneity is fun, constantly changing directions will prevent you from achieving and accomplishing your long-term goals.

In this episode, I want to dive into a topic that’s been on my mind lately: taking a break from social media. We all know how much we love social media—okay, let’s be honest, sometimes maybe a little too much! It’s an amazing tool for connecting, marketing, and growing our businesses.

But even for the biggest social media enthusiasts among us, there are times when a break is not just refreshing but NECESSARY.

And today, I want to share my personal experience with this and discuss how to effectively detox from social media. We’re huge advocates of the occasional digital detox because it can be a fantastic way to hit ‘reset’ and come back refreshed, reinspired, and ready to take your business to new heights.

That said, going offline doesn’t mean your business has to slow down. With a few simple steps you can implement right away, you can ensure that your social media presence continues to thrive, even while you’re taking a well-deserved break.

In this episode, we’ll cover:

  • What is a dopamine detox and what are its benefits?
  • The dangers of social media and its impact on our mental health.
  • Practical steps you can take to implement a social media break while keeping your business active.

If you’re an entrepreneur feeling overwhelmed by social media or planning to take a break, I invite you to join me for a dopamine detox on Monday, July 22nd, and tune in for Friday’s episode where I’ll be sharing my experience around this.

I’ve also mentioned the book in the episode that I will start to read in my downtime called ‘The Artistic Way’.

If you’re looking to hire or outsource some low-level tasks for your business, I recommend StyleSmat VA; they’re matching Virtual Assistants for beauty entrepreneurs. And if you’re outside of the beauty industry, I recommend Outsourced Doers.

If you’re a service-based entrepreneur seeking business education like what we've talked about in this episode and the topics that we're diving into each month, our August to October Cohort program is now open for applications! We're excited to receive your application and take your business to new heights. Juck click here to apply!

In today’s episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I’m giving you another glimpse into our CW ‘Peer to Peer’ Cohort Program. We shared an episode like this on July 8th, if you didn’t check that one out go back and give it a listen because we received great feedback!

Our next cohort is open for applications,– this small group program is one of my favorite facilitation components within Common Wealth. Over the course curriculum we focus on community and networking growth strategies that matter most to your business. This practice of Building Relationships with Intention leads to greater and new revenue, and the best part? It brings the connection and fun back into your business!

In entrepreneurship, we sometimes experience moments of loneliness. In this episode we’ll talk about how you can build relationships with intention – with your dream clients, like-minded professionals in your network, and aligned brands.

How can you get to know, collaborate, and understand pain points that you can offer a solution to? Expanding in ways that are aligned with your business goals, whether it's through new offers, education, content creation, or some other structure, ensures growth in the right direction!

Welcome back to Common Wealth Conversations! In today’s episode, I want to dive into a topic that’s incredibly important but often not discussed enough—imposter syndrome and self-doubt.

I recently had a conversation with a client that really struck a chord with me. She asked if I would tell her if I thought she was a lost cause—if I believed there was no chance she'd be able to accomplish her goals. This question was so raw and sincere; it showed her vulnerability and some deep-seated fears around her own capabilities.

This got me thinking about how common these feelings are. Imposter syndrome and self-doubt plague so many of us. Imposter syndrome is a trendy phrase these days, but it's a genuine experience, a real emotion. It’s that nagging voice that tells you you’re not good enough, attractive enough, smart enough or qualified enough.

In this episode, I’ll share the three things I would encourage anyone to do if they are struggling with imposter syndrome and we'll dive deeper into each of these steps, and hopefully, help you see that you’re not alone in feeling this way. I mention a practice from Gabby Bernstein I’d love to share, check out this podcast episode: ‘Dear Gabby, Can My Spiritual Practice Relieve Physical Pain?’.

If you are a service based entrepreneur and you're looking to increase your revenue and buy back your time, consider applying for our three month cohort program. Doors are open for our applications. We will kick off the program in August. It will run from August to October of 2024. Juck click here to apply!

Title: Pitch Perfect: How to Secure Lucrative Brand Partnerships with Lynzie Smith

This episode of Common Wealth Conversations is a special one because today we are opening our waitlist for our next round of our CWC ‘Peer to Peer’ Cohort Program and I’m giving you a sneak peek into our curriculum. This cohort program has been adjusted and fine tuned, perfected over the last five groups of participants, and I am so excited to introduce our sixth round of this cohort in a three month capacity.

I've loved being able to support the 24 entrepreneurs (with more joining that total at the end of July, as another group completes their program!) that I've worked with through this program already and be able to start to see how this can become even easier, more accessible, more streamlined, more impactful for future participants. Our waitlist opens officially today.

And with that opening, today's episode is focused on one topic I work through with most of my 1:1 coaching clients and cohort participants: how to pitch to brands to secure paid opportunities. There's so many ways that learning how to build relationships with aligned brands can help you further generate revenue for your business. You’ll get a glimpse into my facilitation as a coach and mentor through this cohort, this is a segment from a previous cohort group call. We are talking about pitching to brands and I'm sharing specifically how you can take action in your own business.

If you are a service based entrepreneur and you're looking to increase your revenue and buy back your time, consider applying for our three month cohort program. Doors are open for our applications. We will kick off the program in August. It will run from August to October of 2024. Juck click here to apply!

Title: The Power of Intentional Networking with Burgundy Hubert

In this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I’m thrilled to spotlight one of my incredible clients, Burgundy Hubert. Burgundy has achieved remarkable growth in her business and it has been an absolute privilege to watch her business soar over the last year. We hosted this episode on IG Live to talk about her journey and how the Power of Intentional Networking has brought her into her next levels of personal and professional success.

Burgundy owns Desert Rain Hair Studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. In July 2023, Burgundy joined our CW ‘Peer to Peer’ Cohort Program and continued investing in our 1:1 coaching services that she mentioned in this episode that has not only helped her sustain her private life but also helped her grow and expand her business and expand her cup in ways she never thought possible. Last year I even had the privilege of sitting in her chair and receiving a head spa service. Let me tell you, hands down the most relaxing experience EVER, and I’m maybe expert level when it comes to forms of relaxation.

She’s seen significant growth and this all comes down to her consistent action. Burgundy has developed intentional relationships that have fast-tracked her growth, built genuine relationships with a couple of ‘Power Partners’, step into education with a brand she absolutely loves, and allowing her to expand into her much much larger dream salon suite, and bring on the support she needs to continue to scale her business.

Burgundy leveraged community and coaching for her business growth in a way we can all learn from. She’s tapped into putting herself first on the list and that overflow is so visible now externally as she nurtures all of the relationships in her life from this overflow.

Whether you're a beauty or barber professional, a wellness or creative entrepreneur, or someone who finds networking overwhelming, tune in now into this episode and learn why building relationships is the KEY to success!

On this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, Lynzie Smith and Lisa Tucker discuss the impact of Rooted Conversations, the Instagram live series we’ve brought to the podcast, that allows beauty pros to ask questions and share their experiences anonymously.

The positive feedback and impact that Rooted Conversations has brought in the beauty industry is incredible, and this episode highlights all that they've addressed in this amazing series! Now, after a few months, it's time to check in with those who have reached out and discuss where they are now!

Spotlighting three previous DM conversations, Lisa walks us through each unique story. And because Lisa has connected individually with each of these beauty pros, her own journey of navigating crossroads in her career has been such a support! Even this year, as Lisa was encouraged by Lynzie to take a break and pause on a project that was no longer feeling aligned, the creation of Rooted Conversations emerged! This goes to show the importance of self-care, breaking away from expectations, and finding inspiration and purpose in "doing nothing."

So, what’s next for Rooted Conversations in 2024? Lisa is ready to involve more people in the discussions, potentially through a podcast of her own, recognizing her transformative power of community support within the industry! Rooted Conversations will return as an IG Live series in 2024 with new episodes!

In this exciting episode of Common Wealth Conversations, we discuss the concept of how you measure success and return on investment. Our guests, Erin, Aly, and Samantha, were all participants in our CW ‘Peer to Peer’ Cohort Program from April to September.

Erin shared her perspective on personal growth and the invaluable clarity and drive she gained from the program. She emphasized that it wasn't just about monetary gains but about self-encouragement and connections that they’ve made and the goals she used to think that were unachievable like working with brands just like anyone else. Now, she achieved what she referred to as ‘unachievable’.

Aly on the other hand, highlighted the incredible personal growth she experienced within the supportive community of the cohort program. She revealed how the environment and encouragement she received helped her overcome her fear of launching her program she has been working on for the last 2 years. Aly successfully launched her program and was able to make what she had invested into this program.

Samantha’s journey took a unique path, as she acknowledged doing things the "backwards way." She spent years trying to figure out her business, but it wasn't until she joined the cohort program that she made significant investments in her business. Samantha's story serves as a reminder that success doesn't always follow a linear path.

These inspiring stories show that success goes beyond just numbers and dollars. For all of the beauty and barber pros dreaming of success in this industry, don't miss your chance to join our waitlist for the CW 'Peer to Peer' Cohort Program next group that will kick off in January 2024. On this episode of Common Wealth Conversations, I am going SOLO! My name is Lynzie, I am most often the host of CWC but this week, I am thrilled to share with you my transformative experience as a co-host of the recent CEO Invitational Leadership Summit held on June 11th and 12th. As the founder of Common Wealth Collective and a seasoned entrepreneur, I believe it is essential to reflect on the valuable lessons we learn throughout our journey, and this event provided a ton of insights that I want to pass along!

One of the key takeaways for me was the importance of authenticity and transparency in the entrepreneurial space. As I reflect on my own journey, I realized that embracing my true self and being transparent about my experiences and lessons learned has been instrumental in building trust with my team, sponsors and partners, and clients. Authenticity fosters genuine connections and enables us to build strong, lasting relationships in the business world.

I recognized the need to delegate and surround myself with a capable team. Delegation has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to focus on strategic decision-making and leveraging the strengths of others. It is essential to trust in your team's abilities and empower them to take ownership of their responsibilities.

Effective communication was another crucial aspect that surfaced during the summit. As entrepreneurs, we must be adept at conveying our vision, goals, and expectations clearly. Transparent and open communication cultivates a culture of trust and collaboration. It is through effective communication that we can align towards a shared purpose and drive collective success.

Hosting events, such as the CEO Invitational Leadership Summit, has provided me with invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth. Behind-the-scenes, there is meticulous planning, coordination, and attention to detail that goes into creating an impactful experience. And, as humans, sometimes all doesn't go 'as planned'. It's important to know when to step into action and find a solution and when to let go and trust that the overall outcome will be successful.

Thank you to my co-host, Kelly Cahen, our phenomenal MC (and my soul sister) Lindsey Means, the amazing team at Arcpoint Studios, all of our Sponsors (to Brett and the Oak Capital Advisors team, thank you for your grace in my error and for giving me the opportunity to make it right!) and of course all of our Attendees who made this virtual event truly impactful!

On today's episode, IBP Founder and CEO, Lynzie Smith goes Solo, talking about the meaning and importance of wealth from her own perspective.

Does wealth mean money? Not exactly.

Wealth can mean many things, but it is absolutely not just the accumulation of money and personal items. Money itself doesn't brings us happiness, but it is what we do with it that can lead to deeper understanding around the meaning of wealth. There's nothing you should or shouldn't do with money, but there is an importance on what you emphasize.

In 2012, host of TBSP Lynzie Smith launched her business as an Independent Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist. While navigating the process of Entrepreneurship in the Beauty Industry, Lynzie began offering Coaching Services and hosting Networking Events and Workshops to other Beauty Professionals looking to leave the traditional structure of Salons and Spas and become Independent. In the process, she learned so much from the Artists she was coaching. This led to the idea of launching a platform designed specifically for the Solopreneur in the Beauty Industry, providing a space for all members to contribute their success stories, ask for support, learn from one another, and easily network with others who've shared a similar journey!

As the Founder of IBP, Lynzie truly appreciates the hard work that goes into successfully building a business. Her passion for networking and education creates a truly collaborative approach to promoting others, she sees herself on this platform as an IBP Member.

We each have something unique to share, and we'll always have more to learn!

As we are getting closer to wrap 2022, on today's episode we sit down with CEO of The Money Council® and DigiSuite Council™, Shay Davis, to help us understand more about the foundation of accounting and business, our taxes, and not be afraid of them!

Powered by her passion to help entrepreneurs break the generational poverty curse, Shay has empowered countless small business owners to build unprecedented wealth and inheritance for their families. Shay uses proven tax and accounting strategies to elevate her clients’ profits. In fact, she’s on a mission to turn 15 entrepreneurs into millionaires before she retires.

Her purpose was informed by watching her parents strive for financial security through business ownership, only to be bested by bookkeeping illiteracy. A cosmetologist and handyman by trade, they took great pride in their work but didn’t have access to the financial counseling that would’ve kept more profit in their pockets.

That’s why among her many stellar accomplishments, she is most proud of being a first-generation college grad and entrepreneur, earning a master’s degree in accounting during a global pandemic, and soon to be a Certified Public Accountant while raising a family.

Kristen has been in the industry for nearly 20 years both as a hairstylist and salon owner and now, a salon industry coach. Throughout her career, one thing that she has found was that wherever she went she was always able to attract two things…opportunities and clients.

In 2007 Kristen opened the doors to her salon and quickly attracted old and new clients. She had a solid book of clients within the first 6 months and in 2008 she hired her first employee and began mentoring, teaching and coaching each new hire.

What she discovered through teaching her new stylists was a unique set of skills and practices that she implemented behind her own chair. This seemed to be a magnet for clients, referrals, opportunities and income.

Kristen has coached dozens of stylists within her salon to build a solid clientele, niche their services and charge premium prices behind the chair and thousands of hairstylists and salon owners around the world through her podcast The In Demand Hairstylist.

Additionally, Kristen grew, scaled and sold her successful commission salon for multiple six-figures in 2021 and is now taking everything she has learned over the past 20 years to help other driven salon owners build, manage & motivate teams while creating balance, freedom and success in their life and business.
