An intermittent yet continuous series of “community” mixtapes from firefly friends scattered around the world of some of the music that is helping them think or plan or escape or simply get by in the present time...
A mix by Haduhi Szukis. For Ozzy.

Launching a series of experimental mixtapes adjacent to their regular radio show, Terminal Beach take us on an immersive 'deeps' listening journey into an infra-aquatic soundworld.
Untamed, unheard, unstoppable – this mixtape is a sonic memoir for the feral class: those who refuse to be tamed by the art world’s elitism and instead carve their own messy, radical spaces on the margins. This selection, mixed by Marc Garrett, accompanies his forthcoming book Feral Class, his deeply personal and political reflection on growing up working-class and creating art without permission. This mixtape channels the same raw energy, resourcefulness, humour, and rebellion.
Across 29 tracks, the mixtape threads together the DIY spirit, sly wit, and gritty determination of artists who, like Garrett, thrive outside the mainstream. Post-punk, dub, experimental pop, and outsider folk collide here: a wild dance between alienation and joy, critique and celebration. From the sardonic absurdity of The B-52’s and Ivor Cutler, to the punk defiance of X-Ray Spex, Bush Tetras, and Zounds; from the eerie elegance of Nico and Robert Wyatt, to the industrial and electronic provocations of Cabaret Voltaire, Fad Gadget, and Kraftwerk — this mixtape embodies the creativity of those who make their own rules and find beauty in the cracks of capitalism. It’s a soundtrack to spray-painting a wall, pirating a signal, staging a protest, or dancing in an abandoned hall. These are songs for the feral class: untamed, unheard, unstoppable.
A mixtape of West-African and Saharan sounds, inspired by our recent trip to Dakar.
Buon ascolto!
A new mixtape from 'Quel che resta della notte'... Buon ascolto and have a great summer!
A mixtape in tribute to the late Mark Stewart, co-founder of The Pop Group, dub-punk pioneer and sonic situationist extraordinaire.
First episode of a two-part homage to the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, techno pioneer, inspired synthesist of Eastern and Western styles of electronic avant-pop and groundbreaking soundtrack composer. Featuring music from B2-Unit, Proxima, Furyo, Playing the Piano, BGM. Insen, Left-Handed Dream, Async, Cendre, The Sheltering Sky, 12 and Beauty.
An episode in memory of Mimi Parker of Low who, like all the best souls, died way too young, but whose unique voice, the sound of hope against hope, will continue both to console and haunt us.
This is the third episode XYU BOUHE fuck the war – collaged for you from soviet and postsoviet antiwar music of all genres. This series is put together by Arkadiy Kots band – antifascist folk-punk, riot cantautore group formerly based in Moscow.
And here we will focus on Two particular authors
Galina Ustvolskaya – symphonic and camera music composer of the post World War Two period. Whose life and work was severely affected by the experience of that war. Even if she had never expressed any interest in politics or even social life, she was actually always monastically and frugally dig into her music, - her only refuge. But we can draw a clear line through the trauma of her early life during the fascist invasion in Europe and Soviet Union 80 years ago and her method of creating her music in this clearly painful way.
She herself could not apply any lable to her work, she was saying: There is no link whatsoever between my music and that of any other composer, living or dead
Critics called her a woman with the hammer for a reason, in her mature period she uses the hammer as a percussion instrument, and the octets of upright basses, and a fist-hammering technique to play grand piano.
Another feature we put in dialague with Ustvolskaya – is Egor Letov and Grazhdanskaya Oborona his flagship band. Fans of Letov are uncountable including Arkadiy Kots band ourselves. and he is referred to as a Father of Siberian Punk, which is a very specific phenomena of late soviet underground music scene. Letov died 14 years ago, he was only 42.
Here we collected for you some of the most clearly antiwar manifestation of Letov. Who in the time of war become even more required by the people who oppose the invasion of putin in Ukraine.
Buon ascolto, comrades
XYU BOUHE
A mixtape of hydraulic suspension and amniotic drift with sounds from Tenka, Tomoko Sauvage, Gurun Gurun, Perila, Pink Courtesy Phone, Isnaj Dui, Siavash Amini & Eugene Thacker, Ian William Craig, Ithaca Trio, Alexandra Spence, Federico Durand, Flora Yin-Wong, Felicia Atkinson, Giuseppe Ielasi and Toshihiko Mori.
On September 21 of 2022, after 7 months of bloody invasion of Russia in Ukraine, Putin has openly declared the full-scale war and announced a full-scale military mobilization.
This immediately led to the new wave of protests, street guerilla actions - setting on fire more and more recruitment offices, women’s uprisings.
It also brought up a very unusual wave of migration of men who consciously decided not to take part in the war. These days there’s a massive stream of war-migrants never seen in history – a somewhat reversed flux from “prosperous” Russia to the poor former-soviet south.
This chapter of MIXFEELINGS is compiled by Arkadiy Kots – an antifascist folk-punk band formerly based in Moscow. Their series of mixtapes is dedicated to the antiwar culture in Soviet and post-Soviet time\spaces.

On the day of Jean-Luc Godard's passing (Sept. 13, 2022) we present one of the master's own superlative 'mixes', the soundtrack to episode 1b of Histoire(s) du cinéma, Une histoire seule.
In this ХУЙ ВОЙНЕ [Fuck a War] series of mixtapes, Arkadiy Kots are mixing their rage, pain, and opposition against the ongoing war, and solidarity with the peoples of Ukraine.
A Moscow-based protest-folk combat-punk band, Arkadi Kots is formed by dissident poet and translator Kirill Medvedev, social mouvements scholar and sociologist Oleg Zhuravlev, together with artist Nikolay Oleynikov.
In this mix tape the band share soviet and post-soviet anti-war evergreens from WWI, komsomol-core of the 60-70s, zastoy-punk of the 80s, and very recent anti-regime podpolye dig outs.
They also bring in some iconic anti-war anthems that have been influential and inspirational for Arkadiy Kots:

On the Night of June 22nd -- a song written by the amateur poet Boris Kovynev in June 1941 shortly after the Nazi Germany’s invasion on the territory of the USSR. Kovynev adapted the melody of a popular tango by Polish composer and band leader Jerzy Peterburski. In a timeline manner the song tells about the first days of invasion. The song became part of the day-to-day soviet anti-war mind-set.
Symphony №7 by Dmitry Shostakovich was premiered in August 1942 in the city of Leningrad while besieged by German and Finnish military forces (1941-1943).

UNE ECLIPSE TOTALE DE SOLEIL
[A Shamanistic Ritual For Ghédalia Tazartès, 1947-2021]
We join our friends at Epsilonia in sharing this homage, mixed by Samon Takahashi, to "unclassifiable" experimental musician and avant-folk troubadour, Ghédalia Tazartès who passed in February. Including tracks by GOL, Ghédalia Tazartès, Reines D'Angleterre - Globe Et Dynastie, Franco Battiato, John Bender and more.
This mixtape combines elements of doom-fem, back to folk, back to the land, back to minimal, back to the ground, and under the ground. In Krasnye Zori's own words:
"Our mixtape consists in one-third of our friends' compositions and the St. Petersburg underground scene significant for us (Techno-Poetry, Borisov|Borisov, and Studio of Unconscious Music among others); an other third is taken from famous Western and Russian bands that inspired and formed us (from Grazhdankaya Oborona to Janis Joplin and Coil; Portishead to C.C.C.P. and Lingua Ignota); and for the last third, we used tracks from our first album.
There's no one stronger than the earthworms, comrades!"
Krasnye Zori is a fem-trip-punk electronic duo who occasionally expand into a five-piece live band. Their name translates from Russian as Red Dawns and they hail from a little-known railway station near Peterhof, on the outskirts of St Petersburg where trains rarely stop.
The musical approach of Krasnye Zori mixes field recordings, beats, and synthesizers. Their latest experiments include invented instruments made of found objects and throat singing, as well as a powerhouse punk-rock rhythm section.

In the company of the rarified sounds of Coil, Tuxedo Moon, Ellen Akbro, Fire Toolz and others, painter Giuseppe Adamo takes us on a walk on the dark side, down an overgrown path where liminal shadow-voices, celestial drones and sudden noise bursts give rise to strange, intoxicating blooms.
