Highly Caffeinated Therapy is a podcast meant to bring you deeper insight into all things mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Whether it is a deep dive into a specific diagnosis, a brief overview of specific therapeutic interventions, or long form interviews with professionals in the field, this podcast will help you in your day to day life… and hopefully make the entry into therapy just a little easier.
During a recent poll I ran online, I asked men what their reasons were for not attending therapy either now or in the past. I had 30 respondents who answered 50/50 saying finances were an issue, or the difficulties of scheduling/time constraints.
Some additional responses were:
"social pressure saying it is for the weak."
"too much focus on feeling, not enough focus on resolution/action."
During this episode I strive to lay out all the options that I provide to make therapy as affordable as possible, as well as trying to give some insight into what you might expect in scheduling (time, duration, frequency, etc.).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most empirically validated forms of therapy in use today. It can be used in a wide array of contexts and can be helpful to so many, but what is it? Where did it come from? (where did it go... cotton eye Joe... sorry).
Join me as we look at some of this history of CBT, ranging from the 1950's all the way back to the time of the Stoic Philosophers and the Roman Empire (I got you fellas).

It is easy to feel overwhelmed at times. It's also easy to forget some of the more complicated (though necessary) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions. The questions: "What is true? What is Useful? What is Good?" can serve as a "pocket CBT tool," as I am fond of calling it. They also serve as a good basis for framing healthy core beliefs to provide stability in even the most difficult of times.
As I am sure many will ask, the definitions for each of these are:
True: Objectively verifiable. Grounded in reality. Free from interpretation or distortion.
Useful: How can I frame the truth in such a way that it is useful to me in the present moment and immediate future?
Good: How can I frame what is true and useful in such a way that is ALSO orienting me toward a future good?
Are you ACTUALLY putting in the work to change, or are you addicted to PREPARING for change? For many, preparing is exciting and rewarding... after all preparing to change does not actually require change.
In today's episode we discuss The Transtheoretical Model of Change and the nature of individuals to become addicted to preparation... all without actually doing anything.
In today's episode we will walk through one of my favorite therapeutic parables, "the rock in your shoe."

In this episode, my friend and colleague Jason Pawlik details how he came to be a therapist, the origin of our friendship, and our shared experience with an extremely toxic person (who we refer to as "Tom.") From there we explore a variety of topics pertaining to toxic people, including:
-what are the traits of Toxic People?
-what skills do we need to survive exposure to toxic people?
-where can I learn more about Toxic people?
This episode is my personal backstory and how I came to be a therapist. I then detail what all is required for an individual to became an LPC/MHSP in the state of TN.
This episode will provide context for future episodes, as well as inform you as to the general process of how therapists become therapists.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most commonly used therapeutic interventions in therapy therapy today, but what is it? Where did it come from?
This episode is full of information that will be useful in future episodes as my guests and I debate various therapeutic interventions... but it also has information that you can take home and use today as well.
