This podcast provides our listeners the sermons for each week. We know it is impossible to attend our service every week, so we provide this resource to allow you to catch up whether you are driving to work, in the gym, or just hanging at home.
This week we are challenged to begin at looking at where we are in our relationship with Jesus. The story of Jesus walking on water not only shows us a pretty cool miracle, but challenges us in where we stand with our personal faith.
We all struggle with the feeling of being loved. We desire to be loved, but too often we look to the people around us to fulfill that desire, that hope, when God's love is right there and is perfect.
Being called to make disciples is one of the most basic calls of us a Christians. It is often the command that we most often deglect for a number of reasons. The fact is, as followers of Jesus, if we are not making disciples, we are being disobedient. Instead, we should welcome the exciting invitation that Jesus offers us to follow alongside him in making disciples. Leading others to Jesus and seeing others grow as disciples is incredible, why would we want to miss out on that?
One of the outwardly expressions that followers of Jesus must show is our willingness to serve others. Not thinking about ourselves, not looking for the glory, but willing to put others ahead of ourselves. In this week's message we look at the importance of serving others and showing others Jesus.
When we bring up generosity, money almost automatically come to mind. However, Jesus didn't just teach that generosity and money always go together. In fact, in the way Jesus taught generosity it was more about the size of our heart than the size of our wallet. We are generous because it is an outwardly flow of how Jesus is working in our life, not how much we work.
A biblical, healthy community is something we all need and hopefully strive to find. We have enough drama around us and we don't need anymore. Too often we find that our community does us more harm than good because we're not looking for the right kind of community. This week, we will dive into the the idea of what are the requirements of biblical community.
We're constantly looking for a guide to find a way out of this jam, or that situation. We struggle to find our purpose. We often search for a place or a person that can guide us, yet with all of these situations we too often end up looking in all the wrong place. The fact is, the answers are right there in front of us. Literally. For so many of life's questions, we can find the answers in the Bible. For the "why's" in life, the answers can be found in the Bible. We just have to open it up and read. We have hear, obey, and do.
If you have ever read the Bible at all, especially the New Testament, then you have probably noticed that prayer is mentioned quite frequently. James, especially talks a good bit about the importance of prayer and what we should pray for. However, so does Jesus. In fact, he even models for us what prayer should look like. You've probably heard the Lord's Prayer before, but have you really stopped to think about the words. Well, we're going to do that this week.
Obedience- Just hearing the word reminds us of our parents not allowing us to do something that was fun. You can't do this, or you can't do that. Anything to make our life miserable. When God calls us to be obedient, he does so not to make our lives miserable, but because he loves us and He wants to be a part of our lives. Obedience, like when we were kids, isn't always easy and it isn't always fun, but it's necessary. God doesn't care if we are home by curfew, or we touch the hot stove that we were warned about, He cares if we are willing to devote our lives to follow Him.
In this episode we look at the characteristic of repentance. Throughout Jesus' ministry he calls on his followers to repent of their sins and follow him. Often times we skip the step of repentance because it is difficult. Repentance is hard because it means we must admit we a wrong and change our behavior.
In this week's sermon, we begin a new series called 9 Ways to Follow Jesus. Throughout Jesus' ministry we see him live out certain characteristics that make him who he was. We also read where he teaches his followers to live a certain way. One of these characteristics that we see him live out and teach is love. He says it is by love that the rest of the world will know we are his disciples.
