Success can be a drug, especially if you’ve lived through addiction, people-pleasing, or the kind of hustle that turns your nervous system into a constant alarm. We sit down with Ricky Rebel and get painfully honest about the moment success starts to mean “money, period” and the moment that belief collapses into a deeper question: if you’re already talented and loved, why does chasing the next milestone still feel like survival?
We talk about the difference between success and fulfillment, and why external markers like cash, status, followers, and “being seen” can hijack your self-worth. You’ll hear how we handle the perfectionist voice when goals feel far away, what gratitude actually does for mindset and emotional regulation, and why an existential view of life’s absurdity can restore perspective instead of making you numb. We also dig into the real-world friction: discipline and structure can create financial freedom, but if it crushes your spirit, it can also poison everything you’re building.
Then we bring it back to action and creativity: somatic dance as body-based healing, workshops that blend movement and meaning, Vegas shows, DJ sets, and an upcoming album that uses auto-tune as an artistic choice while still telling the truth emotionally. If you’re chasing big dreams, building a wellness business, navigating sobriety, or redefining work-life balance, this conversation gives you language and tools to hold the “both-and.”

Anxious attachment can convince you that love means urgency, intensity, and proving yourself. When someone pulls back, it can feel like your whole body is on fire, and you’ll do anything to get close again, over-text, over-give, over-think, and over-function. I’m sharing a solo, deeply personal look at how that pattern has shown up in my life, why it can feel just like addiction, and what I’m doing to change it after 17 years sober.
We break down what anxious attachment actually looks like day to day: getting “all in” too fast, obsessing about someone’s availability, and unraveling when the relationship hits a bump. I walk through the moment a friendship rupture snapped me into awareness, and the sentence that captured the whole wound: “If I love you hard enough, maybe you won’t leave me.” From there, we trace the roots back to childhood, where hypervigilance and self-silencing can become survival skills that later shape adult relationships.
Then we get practical. I share the framework that guides my healing, repair what you can and mourn what you can’t, plus the slow, steady building blocks of secure attachment: pacing new connections, treating instant intensity like a red flag, and letting people earn access to your love and attention. When you feel activated, I offer a simple body-based self-soothing practice (hand on heart, speaking to the younger parts) to ride the emotional wave without acting it out.
If this hits home, share it with someone who needs it, subscribe, and leave a review so more people can find the tools to move from anxious attachment to secure attachment. What pattern are you ready to notice first?

Sobriety can be a miracle and still not be enough to make you well. When mental illness or childhood trauma is underneath the drinking or using, quitting substances will only reveal the real problem you were trying to survive. I’m getting honest about the overlap between addiction recovery and mental health, and why so many people are unknowingly self-medicating with alcohol, drugs, or even “harmless” prescription use.
I share what it was like growing up watching a parent rely on pills and only later realizing a mood disorder was part of the picture. We talk about how depression can be the most visible symptom for years, how mania can show up in frightening ways, and why loving someone with a true mental illness can pull you into rescuing, fixing, and losing yourself. That’s where boundaries come in and I break down the definition that actually gives you your power back: boundaries are about what you will do, not what you demand someone else will do.
Then I go into my own recovery story, including postpartum depression and crushing insomnia that made all my tools feel out of reach. We tackle the stigma inside recovery spaces around antidepressants and other psychiatric medication, and why following a doctor’s orders is not relapse. If medication, therapy and psychological support are what keep you stable and sober, there is no shame in that.
If this hits home, listen, share it with someone who needs permission to get help, and leave a review so more people searching for addiction recovery, mental health support, antidepressants, and boundaries can find us. What part of this conversation do you want to talk about next?

Control can look like ambition, discipline, even “spiritual growth” until you notice the cost: anxiety, exhaustion, and that quiet fear that you are only lovable if you earn it. I sit down with Lindsay Marie for a deep, honest conversation about what she calls certainty beyond logic, the kind that doesn’t promise a specific outcome, but does promise you’ll be okay no matter what. That shift is simple to say and incredibly challenging to embody, especially when business, relationships, or family life press on old wounds.
We talk openly about sobriety, addiction recovery, and how so much of our coping is really a search for nervous system safety. We unpack the tension between taking real action and releasing the result, plus the sneaky ways ego turns healing into another performance. We also compare our evolving definitions of God, Source, and intuition, and why expanding the language can make spirituality feel safer for people with religious pain, trauma, or a visceral reaction to the word itself.
You’ll hear practical tools too: “remembering” as a daily practice, the spiritual boardroom image for parts work and inner child healing, and a powerful somatic approach to rejection and failure that replaces bypassing with presence. Lindsay also shares the origin story of her Powerhouse Women event and how it became a space where big dreams and real struggles can both exist. If this resonates, subscribe, share the episode with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with the moment that hit you most.

The fastest way to stay stuck is to keep betraying what you already know is true about you. We start with a real-life twist of timing that brought us together, then move into the deeper question underneath so many addiction and mental health struggles: what happens to your nervous system and your self-trust when you ignore your own inner signals for years?
Our guest, Erica Spiegelman, author of Rewired and creator of the Rewired Method, shares how her path moved through traditional 12-step recovery, what she loved about the community, and why she ultimately built a different framework. We talk about “identity evolution” and the difference between being unclear versus being conscious and still refusing to act. When awareness shows up without action, stress rises. When awareness meets action, everything can change.
We also get practical about the body. Erica explains why nervous system regulation matters for healing, and how a healthy routine can create the consistency and safety many of us never had. We dig into the four pillars of the Rewired Method (mental, emotional, physical, spiritual), how to start when you don’t have support nearby, and whether a rock-bottom moment is required for real transformation. Along the way, we unpack shame, compassionate curiosity, radical responsibility, and the childhood narratives that quietly shape adult choices including how we parent and how we repair when we miss the mark.
If you want tools for addiction recovery, trauma-informed personal growth, mindset change, and rebuilding self-trust, this conversation gives you a clear place to begin. Subscribe, share this with someone who needs it, and leave a review with the one routine you’re committing to this week.

One man in his 40s walks out of the hospital with more than 20 prescriptions and we can’t stop thinking about what that says about modern healthcare. We sit down with Dr. Christine, a former hospital pharmacist who made a radical career pivot from dispensing meds to practicing holistic healing, functional medicine, and nervous system work. Together, we unpack the moment an identity breaks, the fear that follows, and the freedom that comes when you finally admit, “This isn’t who I am anymore.”
We go deep on prevention and root cause healing: how stress, sleep, trauma, and trapped emotions can drive anxiety, gut issues, depression, chronic symptoms, and relapse cycles. We also name the part nobody wants to talk about in the wellness world: if your body doesn’t feel safe, even the best tools can backfire. Trauma-informed support, co-regulation, and practical nervous system regulation come first, especially for people carrying microtrauma, complex trauma, codependency patterns, or perfectionism disguised as “being fine.”
Then the conversation turns personal. We share family stories of mental illness, grief, shame, self-abandonment, and what it takes to choose boundaries without closing your heart. Forgiveness shows up as a skill, not a slogan, including the life-changing practice of making amends to yourself. If you’ve been trying to heal inside a system that never taught you how to feel safe, you’ll leave with language, perspective, and next steps you can actually use.
If this resonates, subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Your mind can talk you into anything, including the next hit, the next drink, the next text you know you shouldn’t send, or the next spiral that feels like “truth” while it’s wrecking your peace. We sit down with Michael for a first-time, no-script conversation that goes straight to the root: addiction is often an attachment to the mind’s narrative, and freedom starts when you can watch the story instead of becoming it. Along the way we connect the dots between trauma, shame, somatic body memory, and the way cravings and compulsions show up as “reasonable” thoughts in real time.
We also get personal about the messy middle of recovery: perfectionism as a survival strategy, why control gets rewarded until it fails you, and how rewriting the 12 steps can apply to marriage, resentment, and self-worth, not just substances. We dig into what “amends” really means when you’re trying to become someone new, plus how parts work and self-compassion can help you speak to the inner critic without letting it run the company.
The conversation turns toward intuition, grief, and joy after devastating loss, including the challenge of matching the level of calamity in your life with equal amounts of serenity. If you’ve been searching for trauma-informed recovery, emotional sobriety, nervous system healing, or a deeper spiritual framework that still feels practical, this one offers both language and lived experience. She wrote the book, deleted the files, and almost erased her own voice. Then she found the draft again and decided to publish it anyway, one raw chapter at a time. We sit down with returning guest Romy Marie, identity coach and the writer behind Breathe Mija, to talk about what it really takes to tell the truth when your story includes addiction, shame, sexual survival, and a lifelong search to be loved.
Romy opens up about stepping off social media, rebuilding after a marriage ends, navigating her father’s relapse, and trying to keep life steady as a single mom while her daughter faces a new health scare and they’re forced to move. Instead of polishing the pain into something “marketable,” she chooses creative control and vulnerability by releasing her memoir on Substack, trusting God with the outcome. We also dig into the deeper pattern underneath so many addictions and compulsions: chasing validation from partners, work, sex, substances, and attention when secure love was never modeled.
Along the way, we get painfully honest about the moments when nobody is coming to save you, and the only way through is self-soothing, prayer, and tiny actions that rebuild identity. If you’ve ever felt trapped by secrecy, afraid your past makes you unlovable, or stuck in the in-between of healing, this conversation will meet you there and show you a way forward.

Your relapse story might not be about “lack of willingness” at all. It might be your nervous system doing its job the only way it learned how: pushing you toward anything that creates a fast hit of safety. I’m joined by Lisa Arrigo, a New York licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, trauma specialist, and recovering addict, for a candid conversation about what changes when we stop treating addiction like a moral problem and start treating it like a trauma-informed, nervous system problem.
We talk about why AA and 12-step recovery can be lifesaving for community and structure, and why it can still fall short for people living with complex PTSD, dissociation, and deep attachment wounds. Lisa breaks down how the brain and body respond to threat, what the window of tolerance looks like in real life, and why “knowing better” isn’t enough when the prefrontal cortex goes offline. We also dig into shame as a physiological experience, how it gets wired early, and why compassionate curiosity paired with radical responsibility can change the relapse loop.
You’ll leave with practical, simple somatic tools you can use immediately: feet-on-the-floor grounding, posture and breath cues, hand-on-heart support, and orienting to present-day safety. We close by naming a truth many of us avoid: healing happens in relationship, and real recovery includes learning how to stop outsourcing safety while still letting safe people in. If this helped you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more people can find trauma-informed addiction recovery.

Your life can look successful on paper and still feel like you’re circling the drain inside. That’s where this conversation goes, fast. We sit down with Darren Prince, one of the most well-known sports and celebrity agents, to talk about what recovery actually looks like after years of sobriety when the old script stops working and the real work begins.
We get into authenticity as the highest frequency, and why long-term addiction recovery can’t stay stuck at the surface. Darren shares the daily practices that keep him grounded in a high-pressure world, plus the moment he realized he needed more than “keep taking inventory” and started going after root cause healing. He walks us through powerful inner child work using NLP, the early shame that shaped his identity, and what changed when he finally reconciled with the younger version of himself.
From there, we widen the lens to relationship patterns, codependency, nervous system regulation, and what it means to be sober and aligned with your values. Darren also tells unforgettable “God shot” stories, what his friend called God-managed coincidences, that turned random moments into guidance and service, including an Uber ride that led directly to treatment. If you care about trauma-informed recovery, relapse prevention, the 12 steps in modern life, and building a life that feels true, this one will land.
Subscribe for more honest conversations about addiction recovery, share this with someone who needs hope today, and leave a review with the biggest insight you’re taking from Darren’s story.

What if the real secret to success isn’t hustle, hacks, or going viral—but your inner steadiness when the noise gets loud? We sit down with recording artist and producer Ricky Rebel to unpack why consistency is a spiritual practice, how fear and comparison derail it, and the tools that bring you back to yourself when ambition heats up. From a blue hue that became brand, book, and talisman to red-carpet choices that sparked both applause and backlash, we track the journey from “prove them wrong” to “let them in.”
Ricky opens up about identity policing in the industry, the weight of old bullying, and the moment he realized controversy had become armor. We talk through threat versus safety in the nervous system and why trauma makes us forget what we already know: we’re capable, worthy, and allowed to take up space. That’s where the real pivot happens—when statements stop coming from defense and start flowing from alignment. Along the way, we explore energetic boundaries on set, finding flow at high-stakes events, and how serendipity shows up once you stop negotiating against yourself.
You’ll leave with a simple, repeatable spiritual inventory you can do nightly—what went well within you, what could be kinder or cleaner next time, the small “glimmers” that brightened the day, and intentions for tomorrow. Paired with a grounded gratitude practice that names both outer blessings and inner qualities, these tools restore focus, reduce reactivity, and make consistency feel human. If you’re building a creative career, scaling a business, or just trying to live on-purpose without losing your center, this conversation offers a map back to the source.

A stadium roared, the beat dropped, and something else happened beneath the lights: hope cut through the noise. Watching the Super Bowl halftime show through a dancer’s eye, we talk about what it means to see someone rise from a cashier job to the world’s biggest stage, and how that arc of grit, culture, and pride can reset our sense of what’s possible. The performance wasn’t just entertainment; it was a reminder that creativity, inclusion, and shared joy still carry power, even when our feeds feel like a firehose of outrage.
From there we turn toward the personal: how do we keep our center when the world feels loud? I share why I choose conscious leadership over performative takes, and how speaking with conviction—without shaming or demanding agreement—opens space for real connection. We explore the crucial shift from pushing for results to being pulled by a mission, and why a strong why can outlast fear, fatigue, and the need for external validation. This isn’t about fixing every crisis; it’s about ending the small, daily forms of suffering we can actually reach.
You’ll hear practical ways to locate your purpose, test it against your calendar, and build rituals that protect your energy while serving others. We get honest about grief, rage, and helplessness, and how to feel them fully without handing over your agency. If the halftime moment stirred something in you, use it. Let it point to the value you refuse to abandon—dignity, recovery, belonging, joy—and then live it in small, consistent steps that compound into a life you can stand behind.

A key opens more than a door when the mission behind it is bigger than a workout. We share how StrongHarte Fitness returns—not as another studio—but as a sanctuary built to fuse movement science, nervous system regulation, and identity-level healing under one roof. The journey winds from escaping a broken insurance model to building a cash-based practice, surviving a pandemic pivot, and carrying the weight and wisdom of grief after losing a sister to overdose. That pain sharpened our purpose: people don’t just need sessions; they need continuity, community, and tools that change their days.
We talk candidly about starting in a rented apartment, becoming a “glorified landlord,” and realizing the brand wasn’t a room—it was the rigor, compassion, and results people felt. Then comes the twist: a client’s offhand comment leads to a 2,500-square-foot space in Thousand Oaks, zoned for everything we do. Instead of saying yes on adrenaline, we sat with it. What emerged is a clear plan: year one focused on twenty high-touch clients integrating physical therapy, strength, breath, and somatic skills; monthly soulful circles where we listen and teach; quarterly Harte Conscious Creators events; and workshops like yoga for longevity customized to injury history.
Along the way, we outline a smarter model—no more renting out rooms that dilute the brand. We dig into why discharging at 60 percent better keeps people stuck, how regulation skills unlock better recovery, and why reframing your story is as important as hip stability or shoulder mechanics. The goal is simple and audacious: people leave different than they arrive, with precise drills, micro-practices for stress, and a narrative that invites agency. If you’ve been craving real change, not just reps, this is your map and your invitation.

Ever wonder why some friendships survive fire while others burn out fast? We dig into the real mechanics of durable connection: why respect—not chemistry—keeps relationships from collapsing after conflict, and how to stop confusing intensity with intimacy. As artists and builders, we talk candidly about drawing clean lines between business, friendship, and sex, and why fewer, stronger ties can be a sign of healing rather than isolation.
We also share a living experiment: launching a Star Academy to train teens for the spotlight with both craft and mindset. From mental rehearsal to lyric anchoring, we unpack practical tools for stage fright, comparison, and anxiety—the same habits that keep adults present under pressure. Along the way, we contrast empty success with “Keanu energy,” the grounded generosity that sustains excellence without sacrificing your soul. Real friends tell you the hard thing, not just the flattering thing, and that feedback lands when we stop tying our worth to perfection.
Control, codependency, and enmeshment get honest airtime. We explore how childhood wounds drive us to merge too fast, give too much, and then panic when people don’t fill the void. The pivot is self-trust: stacking “spiritual reference points,” those moments you don’t self-abandon and life turns out better than fear promised. Acceptance helps too; when you stop asking a cat to be a dog, boundaries get cleaner and gratitude grows. We close by returning to dance—the shared ritual that restores identity and joy beneath all the roles.
If you’re ready to choose people who lift your soul, build boundaries that protect your art, and practice courage under pressure, hit play now. If this resonated, subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show.

What if the thing you’re most afraid to admit is the key to your freedom? We trace a raw, unguarded journey from chasing fame to facing addiction, from an overdose to a doctoral degree, from a collapsing marriage to a rebuilt life anchored in self-trust. The turning point isn’t a single breakthrough; it’s a practice—reframing the 12 steps through a trauma-informed lens, learning to forgive yourself, and building a regulated nervous system that can hold truth without running.
I talk about the Brooklyn beginnings, the go-go dancer detour, and the seductive certainty of school that hid a spiraling habit. Sobriety didn’t magically fix the mess. What changed everything was asking different questions: If I’m powerless over people, the past, and outcomes, what do I actually control? How do I speak to myself when the shame is loud? The answer led to small acts that grew my capacity—decorating a tiny apartment, opening a micro-studio, and crafting a continuum of care that treated both pain and “soul sickness” like codependency, people-pleasing, and hyperproductivity.
Loss sharpened the mission. After my sister’s death, I vowed to match grief with equal joy, and that vow pulled me back into dance, into a surprise choreography gig that took me on tour in Japan at 40 with two kids, and into a book that blends story with method. Along the way, I discovered a love for the stage and launched Heart Conscious Creators, an immersive event built on the idea that vulnerability becomes a superpower only when held by self-trust. If shame scrambles the signal, safety restores the sound—and the sound of intuition is clear, calm, and deeply practical.
Press play to hear how forgiveness can be a system, not a slogan, why nervous system safety is the ultimate growth strategy, and how to take the smallest brave step that leads to the next. If this resonates, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review to help others find the show.

What if the moment you’re trying to avoid is the doorway you need? We sit down with Dr. Stefano, a board-certified spine surgeon and healthcare innovator, who opens up about adoption, racism, and the alter ego he used to survive. He traces how secrecy around identity grew into shame, then shows how sitting with pain—rather than outrunning it—became the turning point for a career and a life built on integrity.
Across this conversation, we connect personal transformation to practical healing. Stefano shares a harrowing story from his teens, the split-second love that stopped a catastrophic choice, and the slow, steady work of separating events from identity. We explore how “casting votes” for a new self lines up with behavioral science: small, values-based actions rewire loops, reduce shame, and create lasting change. That same approach shapes his practice today. He talks about treating people across the spectrum—patients with Black Panther ties and patients with swastika tattoos—and why authentic presence, respect, and safety can dissolve fear faster than lectures ever will.
If you care about addiction recovery, trauma-informed care, and integrative medicine, you’ll find a roadmap here. We discuss why technical skill without deep listening misses the mark, how energy and empathy shift a patient’s nervous system, and what it means to become the CEO of your own health. This is not a highlight reel; it’s a field guide to coherence: say your real name, tell the truth, make the next aligned choice, repeat. Stay to the end for a tease of part two, where we dig into medical training, system incentives, and how to rebuild care so people actually heal.
If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway. Your story might be the spark someone else is waiting for.

What if addiction isn’t about the substance, but the pain it numbs—and the patterns we learned to survive? We sit down with Michael Graham—retired police sergeant, former SWAT sniper, actor, and transformational coach—to explore how identity, faith, and disciplined love can transform the hardest moments. From early career missteps and a costly lie to a full-throttle return to integrity, Michael shows how separating who you are from what you did opens the door to repair, recovery, and real leadership.
The conversation stretches from behavior science to spiritual practice. We unpack how patterns like control, perfectionism, and martyrdom keep us stuck; why awareness without judgment is the first step; and how to design identity through daily “votes” that align actions with values. Michael shares the routines that kept him capable under pressure—body, mind, and spirit reps—and how the same repetition strengthens compassion as a practical skill. If the word “God” makes you recoil, you’ll still find an accessible path: one word for the day, one action that proves it true, repeated until it sticks.
Then comes the moment that ties it all together: a hostage standoff on the Santa Monica Pier, a sniper’s green light, and a surrender measured in pounds of finger pressure. Michael holds two truths in his scope—a man responsible for violence and a human made in the image of God, the son of a mother on scene. He doesn’t take the shot. It’s a masterclass in strength guided by love, the kind of choice that protects others without losing your soul.
Walk away with a simple practice that changes everything: ask, “What would love have me do?” Use it in a meeting, at home, or in your own self-talk. If this conversation moved you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review to help more listeners find the show.

Ever notice how chaos can feel weirdly like home? I open up about seventeen years of sobriety and the unexpected truth beneath it: I wasn’t just addicted to substances—I was addicted to safety. That craving started in childhood, where asking a simple question risked love and silence bought me proximity. Those early lessons built a blueprint for codependency that followed me into adulthood, where intensity masqueraded as intimacy and breadcrumbs passed for connection.
I break down how old survival strategies show up in modern friendships—overgiving, oversharing, ignoring red flags—and why our nervous systems cling to what’s familiar even when it hurts. Then we dig into two anchors that changed everything: focus on repair over rupture when both people meet you halfway, and honor the boundary that says what cannot be repaired must be mourned. Grief becomes an act of protection, not defeat, and a path back to a self we abandoned to stay safe.
Across this conversation, I share how staying awake in hard seasons turns pain into a growth spurt, how re-parenting teaches the body a new baseline of calm, and why choosing yourself is the most reliable source of safety you’ll ever find. If you’ve ever chased validation, confused intensity for love, or kept negotiating with your worth, this one will feel like a mirror and a map. What if the problem isn’t your goals, but the vessel meant to hold them? We dive into the gap between outer success and inner steadiness, tracing a path from relentless hustling to embodied healing. A live event about Internal Family Systems and a chance encounter with David Guillaume became a turning point, reinforcing a hard-won truth: real change starts at the center—spirit, heart, and mindset—not at the edges of achievement.
I share what years in clinical practice quietly revealed: many high-functioning, high-achieving people carry soul sickness beneath polished lives. As a physical therapist, I watched how trust, listening, and being seen softened pain before any exercise did. Then I connect those observations to personal milestones and fractures—addiction and recovery, perfectionism dressed up as productivity, a marriage that couldn’t survive old survival strategies, and the devastating loss of my sister, who seemed to have it all. These stories aren’t drama; they’re data. They show how external abundance without inner integration can become unbearable.
Together, we unpack the difference between hustling and healing. They can look similar on the surface—busy routines, stacked goals—but they feel different in the body. Hustling chases worth; healing expresses it. You’ll hear simple, practical ways to strengthen your spiritual vessel: daily stillness to sense your baseline, breath that slows the nervous system, intentional movement that releases held tension, writing that gives voice to your parts, and honest repair that rebuilds trust. Keep your 2026 goals. But ask the deeper question each day: how will I strengthen my capacity to receive, hold, and enjoy what I seek?

What if the next level isn’t another course but the courage to use what you already know? I’m sharing a raw New Year reflection on choosing momentum over accumulation—how a year defined by adventure and guided by discernment exposed my money patterns in grief, and why implementation is my north star for 2026. This is a story about sobriety beyond substances, the spiritual whack-a-mole that follows healing, and the quiet strength it takes to sit with fear instead of outsourcing decisions to the loudest promise.
I name the work I’m claiming: holistic, trauma-informed physical therapist, bestselling author, and keynote speaker. Those pillars shape my plan to keep serving, speak until speaking pays, and open a brick-and-mortar wellness sanctuary built for mind, body, and spirit—scaled with intention, not urgency. When scarcity urges me to buy the shortcut, I’m pausing, praying, and letting my intuition lead. Momentum here is not speed; it’s consistent action in one direction, compounded by trust.
We walk through practical questions for discernment—why invest, what will I implement, what can I release—and how to build a personal flywheel: clear offers, dependable delivery, clean boundaries, and courageous follow-up. I share the griefs that derailed me—betrayal, motherhood’s intensity, miscarriage, losing my father and sister—and the faith that steadies me now. If you’ve been caught between healing and hustling, if you’ve ever tried to buy relief instead of feeling what hurts, this conversation is your invitation to breathe, choose the next honest step, and let momentum carry you. What if the real bottom isn’t the dramatic crash, but the moment you realize the polished life isn’t working and the noise inside won’t stop? Dr. Samantha Harte takes us through a raw, fast-moving story that starts with chasing the spotlight, detours through addiction and perfectionism, and lands on a deeper kind of success: becoming a spiritual billionaire before you build financial wealth.
We walk through the decisions that changed everything—dropping out to pursue performance, returning to school for safety, getting crushed by early clinical work, and facing a marriage on the brink. The turning point isn’t a hack; it’s a trauma-informed 12-step approach aimed not just at substances, but at control itself. When a mentor asked her to make an amends to herself, the inner critic loosened its grip and intuition finally spoke up. That quiet voice launched StrongHarte Fitness, her wellness center, guided a hard pandemic pivot, and later fueled a book that blends story with prescription for anyone struggling with people pleasing, hyperproductivity, resentment, betrayal, loss and perfectionism.
After losing her sister to overdose, Dr. Harte stopped waiting for permission and built her own stage—Heart Conscious Creators—bringing mind, body, and spirit into one conversation. Along the way, she surfaces a truth many high achievers miss: bodies heal when the soul feels safe, businesses grow when shame calms down, and money sticks when purpose leads. Expect practical reframes, grounded tools, and a nudge to trust the clear, calm inner voice over the frantic one.

What if the end of everything is the beginning of anything? This keynote takes you from a risky leap into the spotlight, through the spiral of addiction and the false safety of perfectionism, to an honest, intuition-led recovery that rebuilt purpose from the inside out. I share how dropping out to chase performance dreams collided with numbing habits, how academic success couldn’t protect a hurting heart, and why sobriety without self-forgiveness still leaves the soul starving.
The turning point came when I expanded powerlessness beyond substances to people and outcomes. Working the twelve steps through a trauma-aware lens opened a door I didn’t know existed: making amends to myself. That single act cut shame down to size and let intuition speak. From that voice came new moves—launching a practice that filled the gap between discharge and real healing, naming the quiet addictions of people-pleasing, hyperproductivity, and perfectionism as a form of soul sickness, and designing care that treats the body without abandoning the spirit.
I also talk about losing my sister to overdose and choosing to recover out loud by writing a prescriptive memoir that modernizes the twelve steps for everyday life—traffic jams, hard conversations, career pivots, and profound grief. Creativity reentered the chat through a suburban dance class that led, unexpectedly, to choreographing and touring in Japan, and to a love of public speaking that now includes a corporate keynote on emotional ROI. If you’re navigating addiction, heartbreak, or the quieter compulsions that steal joy, you’ll find a practical, compassionate framework for change and a reminder that courage compounds when we act on our intuition.

The headlines never tell the whole story. Mary Bonnet sits down with us to strip away the gloss of a blockbuster reality show and talk about what really sustains a person when the edit stings, the comments pile up, and the pressure won’t let go. We open with a funny story about how we met--an embarrassing fan girl moment on a West Hollywood sidewalk, then quickly move into the practices that keep her grounded: cutting way back on alcohol after an honest self-audit, delegating social media to protect her peace, and choosing not to clap back even when it would be easy.
From there, we dig into the making of her memoir—why private messages from viewers convinced her to write it, how reliving trauma on a press tour can reopen wounds, and what it took to return to therapy and EMDR to integrate those memories. Mary’s take on storytelling is refreshingly real: sharing isn’t a victory lap; it’s a brave step that can still hurt. But when readers say “I feel less alone,” the meaning of the pain changes. Shame loosens. Connection grows. Healing starts to scale.
Joy enters the chat through Bali, yoga, and a shared dream with her sister—now several years sober—to create a wellness retreat focused on movement, breath, and spiritual grounding. It’s a blueprint for nervous system sanity in a culture that rewards outrage. We talk ADHD and the work of slowing down, redefining God as an inner compass, and why material wins can’t fill a spiritual vacuum. Mary closes with a simple ethic—treat others as you want to be treated—that reads less like a quote and more like a daily practice.
If you’re curious about sobriety shifts, trauma healing, memoir writing, ADHD, spiritual fitness, and how to build boundaries without losing your heart, this conversation will land. What if the bravest move isn’t to get louder, but to get softer? In this live interview at Heart Conscious Creators, we sit with Romi Marie—known from The Real L Word—who lays down the old script and tells the truth about healing, identity, and the cost of performing for approval. She opens up about how fame solidified a persona that no longer fit, the backlash of questioning labels, and the relief of redefining herself as a mother, wife, coach, and woman of faith.
We dig into the mechanics of change: therapy that surfaces the inner child and unresolved grief, sobriety as a non-negotiable foundation, and prayer as spiritual technology to shift out of fear and rumination. Romi shares the practical tools that keep her steady—safe friendships, movement, quiet mornings, and boundaries that protect peace. For listeners wary of religious language, we translate the practice into nervous-system terms: speak words that reconnect you to love and repeat them until your body believes you. The conversation stays grounded, honest, and tender, aimed at anyone who suspects they’ve been performing a version of themselves to be loved.
Romi is mid-reinvention and refuses to rush. There’s a book forming, a voice clarifying, and a life that prioritizes depth over exposure. We talk about choosing softness without losing strength, measuring success by inner alignment rather than metrics, and the radical permission to change your mind in public. If you’ve ever felt trapped by an old story or pressured to keep playing a role that no longer fits, this talk offers a clear path back to yourself—one prayer, one boundary, one honest conversation at a time.

Airports full of bowed heads and glowing screens told us something we couldn’t ignore: we’re hyper-connected and emotionally disconnected. So we took that tension to a room of HR leaders in London and asked a hard question—what if the most reliable path to profit starts with the human nervous system?
We reframe ROI as Return on Intention and break it into three practical levers: Regulation, Ownership, and Integrity. Through real client stories, we show how a pause-before-send protocol saves relationships and decisions when stress spikes. We explore how blame cycles kill learning, and how shifting from hostile why to compassionate curiosity keeps teams engaged through failure. And we examine the cost of integrity gaps—those moments when hiring promises collide with impossible workloads—and why people don’t just leave jobs, they leave misalignment.
This conversation blends lived experience, recovery wisdom, and neuroscience into a modern, trauma-informed framework leaders can use to build emotionally sober cultures. You’ll hear how to turn inventories into post-mortems that teach, how to make integrity measurable by tracking promise-keeping, and why tending to the person behind the performance drives retention, innovation, and productivity. The takeaway is simple and bold: invest in emotional ROI first, and the financial ROI follows.

What if lasting change isn’t about willpower, but capacity? We sit down with holistic health counselor and behavior change expert Hadlee Garrison, MPH, to unpack how small, elastic habits and nervous system regulation outperform detoxes, rigid plans, and the all-or-nothing mindset. Hadley blends evidence-based behavior science with Ayurveda, food psychology, and circadian rhythm tools to help people rebuild energy, settle their bodies, and shift identity from perfectionist hustle to sustainable self-trust.
We trace Hadlee’s personal journey from knowing the research to living the extremes—crash dieting, overtraining, and spiraling into shame—before discovering why those strategies backfire. You’ll learn how “everything counts” reframes progress, how to use pinnacle/middle/baseline goals so you never start over, and how removing moral labels from food, movement, and rest creates space for honest feedback. We also dive into somatic practices—like self-touch and daily self-massage—that calm the nervous system and make room for better choices, even on tough days.
The conversation turns deeply human as we explore shame, self-forgiveness, and intuition. When shame is met with neutrality, your inner voice gets louder and kinder, making the gray zone not just tolerable but productive. From there, identity-based habits become automatic, freeing your mind for what matters: relationships, purpose, and joy. If you’ve tried hacks and stalled, this is a practical, compassionate roadmap for rebuilding capacity and letting small wins add up to a life that fits. Listen, try one tiny action today, and tell us what you’ll count as a win. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review to help others find the show.

The body keeps the score, but it also leaves clues—and midlife is when those clues get loud. I share a clear, data-backed path through perimenopause: the first strange symptoms, the shrugged-off labs, and the moment I decided to stop tolerating discomfort and start tracking what mattered. If you’ve been told “you’re fine” while your hair breaks, your mood swings, your jeans won’t zip, and your LDL creeps up, this conversation hands you a roadmap.
We unpack the real turning points: timing hormone tests to the luteal phase and discovering near-zero progesterone, starting targeted HRT and monitoring results, and replacing performative cardio with short, intentional strength training to protect bone density and rebuild lean mass. I talk through raising protein, prioritizing recovery, and the overlooked variable that changed my labs—reviewing long-term psychiatric medication that can elevate LDL, then tapering safely with medical guidance. Finally, I demystify peptide therapy: what it is, how to vet a provider, why labs matter before and after, and what shifted for me when I paired peptides with smarter training and a cleaner med list.
This is a practical, compassionate guide for women who want to feel strong, clear, and in charge during perimenopause. You’ll hear the exact steps I took, the questions I asked, and the metrics I watched as my LDL dropped from 140 to 111 and my energy and composition improved. No quick fixes, no shame—just a precise stack and persistent self-advocacy. If you’re ready to trade confusion for a plan, press play, share this with a friend who needs it, and then subscribe and leave a review to help more women find this resource. Control feels safe until it steals our peace. We sit down with Brooke Burke for a candid, spirited conversation that turns into an unscripted coaching session on surrender, acceptance, and real-world agency. We unpack why powerlessness isn’t weakness but a compass pointing us away from unwinnable battles—other people’s moods, shifting schedules, the traffic, the verdicts of bosses or gatekeepers—and back toward choices that actually change our day.
Together we trace how old survival strategies harden into overfunctioning and anxiety, and how pain can act like a circuit breaker that opens a window for change. Brooke shares a vulnerable story about planning the “perfect” family dinner and facing the gap between her hopes and reality. We use it to model three simple moves: name what’s not in your control, notice how control attempts create unmanageability, and choose one clear action you do own. Sometimes it’s as small as a group text: Is anyone free for dinner tonight?
Expect a blend of practical tools and nervous-system literacy. We talk micro-pauses, sixty-second breath breaks, and nightly accountability scans, all designed to reduce cortisol, reclaim attention, and turn presence into a habit. We also explore the invisible emotional load many women carry, why uncertainty once felt like spiritual death for some of us, and how tracking what we can control—our second thought, our time, our self-talk, our rest—shifts life from frantic to manageable, and from manageable to joyful.
If you’re ready to trade perfection for precision and control for clarity, press play. Share this with someone who needs a gentler way to be powerful, and leave a review to tell us the one thing you’ll stop trying to control this week. What if forgiveness isn’t something you give away—but the foundation you stand on? I share a raw story of recovery, grief, and betrayal that reframed everything I believed about healing. After losing my sister to overdose, my two worlds—clinical work and spiritual practice—collided, and I began translating the wisdom of recovery for anyone stuck in cycles of addiction, perfectionism, or emotional chaos. The ninth step’s spirit of amends became a mirror: before I could repair anything outside me, I had to make amends to myself.
We walk through the turning points: trying to out-perfect a collapsing marriage, hitting a rock bottom that wasn’t dramatic but devastating, and discovering that self-soothing at thirty was the first adult act of compassion I’d allowed. I explain how I worked the steps on my relationship—naming powerlessness where I had none, confronting the inner critic that kept me hostage, and learning to speak from intuition instead of fear. When a five-year affair came to light, rage and space followed—and so did a new business born from a conviction that true wellness must include the spirit. Months later, a quiet inner voice asked if I was truly done. The answer didn’t come from public opinion or pride; it came from a shame-cleared self that could choose with integrity. For me, that meant staying, rebuilding, and creating a family. For you, it might mean leaving. The point is freedom.
If you’ve wondered why your apologies don’t change anything, why perfectionism fails in matters of the heart, or how to stop paying for the past twice, this conversation offers practical steps and real hope. You’ll learn how to turn amends inward, talk to the critic without surrendering to it, and let intuition lead. Share this with someone who needs more self-compassion, subscribe for more honest conversations about recovery and wellness, and leave a review with the one belief you’re ready to release. Your freedom might start with a single self-forgiving sentence.

Douglas James captivates listeners with his raw, vulnerable journey from a traumatic childhood to becoming a wildly successful entrepreneur and devoted family man.
Growing up with a father battling addiction, mental illness, and violent tendencies, Douglas witnessed domestic abuse, experienced homelessness, and endured neglect that left deep emotional scars. His powerful testimony reveals how joining the Navy at 17 became his escape route—leading to a decade of military service and eventually building businesses that generated over $70 million in revenue.
Yet despite external success, Douglas discovered a profound truth: "Success does not silence your soul." No amount of money, business achievements, or material comfort could heal the wounds inflicted during his formative years. The true transformation began when he embraced faith and learned that forgiveness wasn't about waiting for his father to change, but about allowing himself to be changed.
Douglas shares the breakthrough moment when he sat with his father and offered forgiveness—not because his dad deserved it, but because holding onto resentment was poisoning only himself. This act of spiritual surrender created space for healing while still maintaining healthy boundaries. His practical approach to managing resentment through prayer and mindfulness offers listeners tangible tools for their own healing journeys.
For anyone carrying the weight of past trauma or struggling with forgiveness, Douglas' story proves that breaking free from resentment can lead to both spiritual freedom and worldly success. His testimony reminds us that our legacy isn't measured by financial achievements but by the healing we embrace and the cycles we break for future generations.

Raw, unfiltered, and straight from the heart—Vince Ricci's story of transformation from Bronx street survivor to creative powerhouse will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about forgiveness, resilience, and what it truly means to protect those you love.
The founder and CEO of Hubble Studio doesn't just share his success story; he rips open the vault on his tumultuous upbringing where survival meant discerning friend from foe, where trust could get you killed, and where the most feared men were sometimes the most tender-hearted. His candid reflections on growing up surrounded by violence, addiction, and chaos reveal how these experiences forged his uncompromising approach to both business and family.
When armed intruders threatened his home, Vince's split-second decision to engage in what became a viral 75-second gunfight wasn't just about self-preservation—it was about an absolute commitment to protecting his family at all costs. "That outcome was a million percent better than letting them in my house," he explains with chilling clarity. Yet perhaps most surprising is his matter-of-fact forgiveness toward those same attackers: "He's doing what he knows to do...what do I need to forgive him for?"
This paradoxical ability to be both unflinchingly tough and remarkably compassionate defines Vince's approach to fatherhood, business relationships, and personal growth. He's built Hubble Studio into a creative juggernaut that's shot hundreds of Vogue covers and worked with countless A-list celebrities, while simultaneously honoring his mother's memory through charity work that transforms lives.
Whether recounting street confrontations or explaining how he teaches his young daughter both fearlessness and security, Vince delivers hard-earned wisdom with unexpected vulnerability. "If you dwell on shit, you're going to live in that shit," he states plainly, revealing that his approach to forgiveness isn't about moral superiority—it's about freedom.
Ready to challenge your own perspectives on healing, protection, and what it means to truly move forward? This episode will leave you questioning where your own capacity for forgiveness ends, and whether your past is defining your future more than you realize.

Marshall Davis Jones opens his heart and shares his profound journey through forgiveness in this soul-stirring conversation about healing, poetry, and personal liberation. A five-time TEDx speaker whose poems have been flown into space by NASA, Marshall reveals how the practice of forgiveness transformed not only his relationships but also healed debilitating physical pain.
Through vivid storytelling, Marshall takes us through his evolution from writing viral poetry that reinforced blame to crafting poems that embody accountability and wholeness. His turning point came when he made two pivotal phone calls—one to his mother and one to his father—to speak his truth with clear boundaries: he would speak once, they would never discuss it again, and they couldn't respond. "The morning after," Marshall shares, "I woke up and I was like 'I'm an adult now. I can take full accountability for my life because I can no longer blame my parents for why I am the way I am.'"
The highlight of our conversation arrives when Marshall performs his never-before-shared poem "The Body Keeps the Score," a masterpiece weaving metaphors about tennis, physical pain, and the necessity of forgiveness. His message resonates with bone-deep truth: "You won't forget, but damn it, you must forgive, because holding on to this will kill any reason to live." Marshall illuminates the three essential elements of healing—agency (the right to act), autonomy (the right to choose), and accountability—revealing how forgiveness becomes possible when we reclaim our power rather than projecting blame outward.
Whether you're struggling with family relationships, physical pain with emotional roots, or simply seeking to embody your highest values, Marshall's wisdom offers a roadmap for genuine transformation. Listen, share with someone who needs to hear this message, and if you're feeling spiritually stuck, book a free discovery call through the link in the show notes.

Greg Kimble's story defies the ordinary arc of success. From a Capitol Records artist at 15 to a Vegas headliner at 21 making $25,000 weekly, his early trajectory seemed glamorous—until it nearly destroyed him. When his father showed up unannounced to save him from self-destruction, Greg experienced the first of many spiritual nudges that would ultimately redirect his life toward purpose and impact.
"Everyone has something inside that is needed and necessary in this world," Greg shares with electric conviction. This belief fuels his work through The Final Percent, a company named after witnessing a total solar eclipse in Wyoming. The metaphor is powerful—at 99% coverage, daylight remains equivalent to 10,000 full moons, but that final 1% creates total transformation. This philosophy now drives his approach to personal development and the 15 international masterminds he leads.
What makes this conversation particularly compelling is Greg's raw honesty about family trauma and forgiveness. Rather than perpetuating cycles of violence with his abusive brother, he chose a different path—"Conflict is inevitable. Combat is a choice." This distinction offers listeners a framework for handling their own difficult relationships without compromising their values or peace.
Most striking is Greg's challenge about imagination itself. "Both faith and fear are completely made up," he explains, suggesting we have the power to choose which stories we tell ourselves. Why invent worst-case scenarios when we could just as easily imagine positive outcomes? His practical approach to spirituality frames God not as a "genie" but as a partner who provides opportunities that require our action.
Are you living a life worth dying for? As Greg points out, no one knows when their time will end—"life hides the game clock." This sobering reality isn't meant to frighten but to galvanize. Stop waiting for perfect conditions, take massive action on your ideas, and show the world who you truly are. Your journey toward purpose begins with a single, courageous step.

What happens when two souls reconnect after four decades apart? In this heartfelt episode, I sit down with Pam Yudko – who was once my camp counselor when I was just six years old, and is now a nationally recognized transformational coach with over 20 years of experience helping people break free from limiting beliefs.
Our conversation, recorded live at my Heart Conscious Creators event in Los Angeles, explores the profound power of acknowledgment in healing relationships. Pam shares with remarkable vulnerability how she discovered layers of judgment she was still holding toward her husband of 21 years, despite thinking she had "done the work" already. The breakthrough came during a simple hike when he finally acknowledged her feelings about not feeling safe – that simple "I hear you, I'm sorry" transformed their entire relationship.
What makes this discussion so powerful is Pam's willingness to examine how our earliest emotional needs continue shaping our adult relationships. She identifies safety as her primary need – above love and belonging – which explains why her defenses activate so quickly when she doesn't feel secure. Through a recent conflict with her husband, she reveals how his response of love rather than matching anger allowed her to access feelings she'd been protecting herself from – particularly the pain of disappointing someone she loves.
This episode offers a masterclass in relationship healing through its raw authenticity. We acknowledge that spiritual and emotional growth isn't a one-time achievement but an ongoing process. As I share during our talk, "We don't graduate from our spiritual curriculum here on Earth." Each challenge presents an opportunity to either fall back into old patterns or expand our spiritual vessel enough to shift into a new destiny.
Join us for this deeply moving conversation about breaking circuits, removing protective walls, and finding the courage to feel everything – even the emotions we've spent a lifetime avoiding. If you're ready to transform your relationships through radical honesty and acknowledgment, this episode is your invitation to begin.

What happens when two people with extensive recovery journeys sit down to talk about what they're still struggling with? Magic, vulnerability, and profound wisdom emerge.
Dr. Samantha Harte welcomes Dave Meltzer – successful entrepreneur, sought-after keynote speaker, author, and as she describes him, "an amazing human" – for a raw conversation that quickly moves beyond the expected topics into deeply personal territory. Despite 16 years of sobriety and all the external markers of success, both open up about their ongoing internal work with disarming honesty.
The discussion moves seamlessly between profound topics: the dangers of unhealthy codependency in recovery, the armor we build around our hearts even in loving relationships, and the poisonous nature of guilt and shame. Hart vulnerably shares her current work on disentangling from unhealthy patterns stemming from "mother hunger" while navigating a 22-year marriage rich with both love and betrayal. Meltzer offers his perspective on responding to our natural protective reactions rather than being controlled by them.
Perhaps most moving is Harte's revelation about her evolving grief journey after losing her sister to a drug overdose three years ago. She describes how she's finally reaching a place where she can look for spiritual connection with her sister – something unimaginable to her even six months earlier. This leads to a fascinating exploration of spirituality, with Meltzer sharing his concept of "best option faith" and Harte contemplating the relationship between intuition, highest self, and God.
Whether you're in recovery or simply interested in personal growth, this conversation demonstrates that healing is never "done" – it's a continuous unfolding that reveals new layers of awareness, connection, and meaning throughout our lives. Join these two authentic souls as they model what it means to keep showing up for your own growth while helping others with theirs.

Death isn't always the end of the story. Sometimes, it's just the beginning of something extraordinary.
Frank Parisi didn't just approach death's door – he walked through it. During what began as treatment for a persistent cough, Frank found himself on a ventilator with his heart, liver, and kidneys failing. What happened next defies conventional understanding: he died, left his body, encountered his deceased friend, and was given the choice to stay or return. For the sake of his young son, he chose to come back.
This episode takes us through Frank's remarkable journey from addiction to sobriety, from death to rebirth through a heart transplant, and from survival to profound purpose. Frank shares the incredible synchronicities that unfolded – how his doctors mysteriously all had connections to his father's past in organized crime, how a medium revealed information only his deceased father could know, and how he eventually met the family of his 19-year-old heart donor, Kaylee.
"God is everything, he is nothing," Frank reflects, sharing how his relationship with spirituality transformed throughout his recovery journey. Despite facing pain medications during recovery (after 14 years of sobriety), he maintained his commitment to sobriety and focused on rebuilding his body and mind through exercise, prayer, and gratitude.
Today, Frank leads multiple companies focused on helping humanity, has written a bestselling book, and speaks about his experiences. His message is clear and powerful: "Never let this life break you. It doesn't matter where you started or what your circumstances are – always have a vision, audit your circle, and take massive action every day."
Whether you believe in miracles or remain skeptical, Frank's story offers a profound perspective on the resilience of the human spirit and the possibility that our existence extends far beyond what we can physically perceive. Listen with an open mind, and you might just find yourself reconsidering what you thought you knew about life, death, and everything in between.

What happens when you build your entire identity on who others expect you to be – then finally find the courage to live as your authentic self? In this extraordinarily vulnerable conversation, I speak with Romy Marie – certified identity coach, mother, entrepreneur, and former cast member of Showtime's "The Real L Word" – though we'd never met before hitting record.
Romi takes us through her journey that began with childhood survival, where she learned that creating drama and "being sick" would earn her the attention she desperately craved from her busy single mother and absent father. This pattern followed her into adolescence, where mental health diagnoses became part of an identity that eventually led to substance abuse as a means of numbing her inner turmoil.
The conversation reaches profound depths when Romi courageously discusses how her sexuality became intertwined with her search for validation and attention. After years in the public eye as a lesbian reality TV star, therapy helped her question whether this identity had been another survival mechanism – a realization that challenged everything about how she'd presented herself to the world.
"I don't need the attention. For the first time in my life, it's so relaxing and quiet and calm," Romi shares, describing her current life that prioritizes peace, motherhood, and spiritual connection over external validation. What happens when the very traits that once helped you succeed become the prison bars holding you captive? In this raw and revelatory solo episode, Dr. Samantha Harte takes us on a deeply personal journey through her battle with perfectionism—a character trait that drove her to academic excellence, cocaine addiction, marital crisis, and ultimately, profound transformation.
Drawing from her recent Harte Conscious Creators event, Dr. Harte vulnerably shares how her need to control everyone and everything manifested when facing failure or uncertainty. From plagiarizing a college paper to preserve her straight-A identity to overdosing on cocaine the very night she was accepted into a doctoral program, she illustrates how perfectionism created an illusion of control while actually destroying her life.
The breakthrough came during her marital crisis, five years sober but spiritually broken. Though physically clean from substances, she was still trying to control outcomes and people, particularly her husband. Working the 12 steps with specific focus on her marriage revealed a powerful truth: she had no power over her husband's feelings, potential infidelity, or their relationship's ultimate outcome—but she did have power over her healing, self-talk, and the meaning she gave her experiences.
Dr. Harte's most profound insight came when asked if she'd ever made amends to herself. As a perfectionist, the concept was foreign—everything was her fault because that maintained the illusion she could fix it. Learning to forgive herself became the foundation for later forgiving her husband and rebuilding their marriage. Through losing her father and sister, she faced more tests of surrender, ultimately leading to writing her book modernizing the 12 steps for everyone.
The gift Dr. Harte offers listeners is the courage to trust the process of imperfection. As she powerfully states: "Everything good, everything magical that has ever happened to me has happened in the messy middle." Her message transforms the 12 steps into universal tools for living, loving, parenting and working with greater authenticity and peace.
Want to break free from your own invisible prison? Listen now and discover how embracing imperfection might be your greatest pathway to freedom.

Every so often, an unexpected friendship forms that cuts through the superficial and dives straight into soul-deep connection. That's exactly what happened when I met Brooke Burke—someone I'd admired from afar for years as she graced television screens with her natural charisma and undeniable presence.
What I discovered behind the public persona was truly remarkable: a deeply spiritual woman whose superpowers had nothing to do with her on-camera talent and everything to do with her genuine desire to lift others up. In this intimate conversation recorded in Brooke's backyard, we explore territory rarely covered in celebrity interviews—spiritual rock bottoms, the universal nature of addiction, and how loss can ultimately transform us.
Brooke vulnerably shares her own struggles with control and perfectionism, realizing through our friendship that addiction manifests in countless ways beyond substances. We reimagine recovery principles through a trauma-informed lens, distinguishing between mere acceptance and the deeper practice of surrender. Her insights about maintaining spiritual connection while balancing a busy blended family life offer wisdom applicable to anyone juggling multiple responsibilities.
The conversation takes a particularly powerful turn when we discuss grief and healing. Having both experienced significant losses, we explore how checking in with your heart—asking simple questions like "How does your heart feel today?"—can create space for authentic healing. Brooke's willingness to have a "broken heart" rather than closing herself off from love demonstrates a courage that transcends her public achievements.
Whether you're navigating recovery, processing grief, seeking balance, or simply curious about the person behind the persona, this episode offers rare insights into two women's journeys toward authenticity and healing. Listen in, and you might just discover your own path forward through life's most challenging moments.

What happens when your entire world collapses, your body betrays you, and even the medical establishment refuses to believe your pain? For Deborah Weed, this nightmare became reality during a three-year health crisis that transformed her from a successful corporate executive to a bedridden patient fighting for her life—and her dignity.
Deborah's remarkable journey began at the peak of her career. As Director of Development for Citibank overseeing 19 branches and leading major projects with Disney and Universal, she embodied professional success. Then came the pain—excruciating, relentless pain that doctors repeatedly misdiagnosed or dismissed entirely. For three agonizing years, she received conflicting diagnoses ranging from MS to Lou Gehrig's disease, while others told her it was "all in her head." With iron levels dangerously low at 3-6 (normal being 15), she was literally dying while fighting to be believed.
The turning point came from an unexpected source: a 1943 copper penny. Learning that such a seemingly ordinary object could be worth a million dollars sparked a profound realization about self-worth. "If people walk by a penny thinking it's worthless, then who am I?" she wondered. This metaphor became the foundation for her first musical, "The Luckiest Penny," teaching children about inherent worth regardless of external circumstances.
After finally receiving proper diagnosis and treatment for a grapefruit-sized tumor pressing against her spine, Deborah emerged with a crystal-clear understanding of the difference between self-esteem and self-worth. "Self-esteem is what we do. Self-worth is what we say we're worth," she explains with hard-won wisdom. This distinction fuels her current mission—the Quills Up movement and development of "Paisley the Musical," a Broadway-scale production about reclaiming personal power.
Deborah's story reminds us that sometimes our deepest pain becomes our greatest purpose. When everything falls apart and you have nothing left but yourself, you discover what you're truly made of. Are you ready to reclaim your power and declare your worth? Visit paisleysfashionforest.com to join Deborah's movement and transform your own pain into purpose.

What if those moments we dismiss as "coincidences" are actually glimpses into something more profound? After spending most of my life as a determined atheist who believed spiritual people were simply not intelligent enough to rely on themselves, I've undergone a remarkable transformation.
Sixteen years into sobriety and eleven years into an unexpected spiritual journey, I've completely reimagined what "God" means to me. No longer the rigid cultural construct I was taught to reject, I've discovered what I call "the whisper of God"—that intelligent, intuitive knowing within that guides us toward clarity, peace, and compassion when we're willing to listen.
But recently, I've been drawn toward something even more intriguing: the realm of miracles. Those moments when you think of someone and they immediately call. When you feel compelled to reach out to a friend who, unbeknownst to you, is in crisis. Are these really just random coincidences, or could they be something more?
After reading a book called "Signs," I decided to conduct a personal experiment, asking my departed father and sister to send me specific signs—butterflies for my dad and hearts for my sister. What followed defies logical explanation: a monarch butterfly appearing outside my window during a coaching call, and later, a profound experience in Texas involving a hotel clerk named Jessica (my sister's name) who assigned me to the 13th floor (the date of my sister's passing was March 13th). When I shared this synchronicity with her, she broke down crying, confiding her struggle with alcoholism and believing our meeting was divinely arranged.
Whether you're a spiritual seeker or a confirmed skeptic, I invite you to join me on this experiment into the unknown. What might we discover if we remain open to possibilities beyond our understanding? Share your own experiences with signs or synchronicities—I'd love to hear your story as we navigate this mysterious terrain together.

Traumatic experiences shape us in profound ways, often gifting us with remarkable strengths that help us survive—but what happens when those same strengths become barriers to our healing?
This captivating panel discussion features Paige and Joe, two individuals who've faced devastating traumas yet found ways to transform their adaptive traits from potential liabilities back into personal assets. Their stories offer a masterclass in self-awareness and emotional growth.
Joe, paralyzed after a military service injury in 2007, shares how his unwavering positivity and resilience helped him adapt to life in a wheelchair. While these traits enabled him to build a beautiful family with three children, they also created what he calls a "hardened shell" that limited his emotional range. "I started seeing life in black, white, and gray," he reveals, explaining his recent journey to experience "more color" by finally allowing himself to process long-suppressed grief.
Paige, who lost her father to suicide at age ten and later became a military spouse, identifies as a "survivor." This trait carried her through unimaginable hardships but eventually morphed into a pattern of neglecting her own needs. Through her work as a yoga studio program manager, she's learning to apply the mindfulness practices she teaches to her own healing journey.
The conversation takes a powerful turn when discussing parenting, with both guests sharing vulnerable moments where they recognized opportunities for growth. These stories highlight how we can model accountability and self-compassion for our children while healing ourselves.
What makes this episode exceptional is its practical wisdom about balancing seemingly contradictory needs: How do we honor our emotions without becoming consumed by them? How do we maintain boundaries while validating feelings? How do we break unhealthy cycles without breaking ourselves?
Ready to transform your own character liabilities back into assets? Listen now, and discover how embracing your full emotional spectrum might be the key to living a more authentic and fulfilling life.

What happens when the very traits that make you successful in your career become obstacles in your personal life? This riveting panel discussion featuring coaches Alejandra Perez and Michael Graham explores the fascinating terrain of redirecting character traits from liabilities into assets.
Alejandra, a self-described driven optimist who reinvented herself multiple times across engineering, sales, and entrepreneurship, reveals how excessive positivity without preparation led to business failure. Rather than abandoning her optimistic nature, she found ways to ground it in reality while maintaining its motivational power. Her journey offers profound insights for dreamers who struggle to bridge the gap between vision and execution.
Michael brings a unique perspective as a retired police sergeant whose authoritative presence and problem-solving abilities were crucial in law enforcement. He shares vulnerably about recognizing how these same traits created disconnection with his wife and children at home. His discovery that the gentleness required for horse training mirrors what's needed in parenting provides a powerful metaphor for anyone struggling to balance professional strengths with personal relationships.
The conversation weaves through perfectionism, problem-solving tendencies, optimism, and authority – examining how these traits manifest both positively and negatively in our lives. You'll gain practical insights for recognizing patterns, understanding the root causes of challenging behaviors, and redirecting your natural tendencies toward healthier expressions. Whether you're a parent, partner, or professional seeking greater balance, this episode offers compassionate guidance for living more authentically across all domains of your life.

What happens when a physical healer discovers that treating the body alone isn't enough? After years of helping patients recover physically while maintaining my own fragile sobriety, I faced a devastating wake-up call that transformed everything.
The moment my sister lost her battle with addiction, something fundamentally shifted in me. No longer could I separate my professional identity as a physical therapist from my personal journey through recovery. The carefully constructed walls between these worlds came crashing down, revealing a truth I'd been avoiding: true healing requires addressing the soul sickness that manifests in our bodies, relationships, and lives.
My journey from doctoral studies to founding Strong Harte Fitness was driven by seeing how the healthcare system discharged patients only 60% healed. Yet even as I built a successful practice, I recognized the same patterns in my clients that I witnessed in recovery rooms - not addiction to substances, but to control, people-pleasing, productivity, and impossible standards. These manifestations were preventing true healing just as effectively as any substance.
For years, I resisted the spiritual aspects of recovery, relying instead on rigid control as my drug of choice. It worked until it spectacularly failed during a personal crisis, teaching me that perfection always collapses in matters of the heart. Only then did I discover that the 12 steps, reframed in trauma-informed, non-religious language, offer powerful tools for anyone suffering from the disconnection and soul sickness of modern life.
This episode takes you through my transformation and offers a glimpse into how these principles can help you break generational patterns, heal from past wounds, and connect more deeply with yourself and others. Whether you're battling addiction or simply feeling disconnected from your purpose, there's something here for you. Ready to explore the infinite power of your light? What happens when anger transforms into acceptance? When betrayal leads to forgiveness? When rage opens the door to healing? This powerful episode brings together three extraordinary individuals who've walked through fire and emerged with wisdom that could change your life.
Bruce Cardenas, a former Marine who built a billion-dollar nutrition brand, shares the gut-wrenching story of business betrayal that would have broken many. Instead of seeking vengeance, he chose forgiveness—a choice informed by asking forgiveness from his own brother and watching his son battle alcoholism. His revelation that "life is extremely short" offers a perspective that makes holding grudges seem like precious time wasted.
Military veteran Amy takes us through her decade-long battle with anger after returning from Afghanistan. When conventional treatments failed, she found breakthrough in ancient plant medicines that allowed her to physically release trauma stored in her body. Her simple yet profound tools for healing—breath work, journaling, and gratitude practice—cost nothing but offer everything.
Actor and former metal band frontman Jacob Wilson courageously reveals his journey from self-hatred to self-acceptance as a gay man in environments that rejected his identity. Now working in Hollywood, he demonstrates how leading with love and authenticity creates genuine connections in an industry known for toxicity and transactional relationships.
The thread connecting these diverse stories? Understanding that beneath anger lies pain—often the pain of a wounded inner child "screaming for help." This perspective shift transforms how we view not just our own anger, but the anger we encounter in others.
Whether you're carrying resentment, battling addiction, healing from trauma, or simply seeking more meaningful connections, these stories remind us that the path forward always involves the choice to default to love. Ready to make that choice in your own life? This episode gives you both the inspiration and practical tools to begin.

What happens when a successful healthcare professional faces a personal tragedy that forces her to reimagine her entire purpose? Dr. Samantha Harte's raw, vulnerable story takes us from disillusionment with the healthcare system to entrepreneurial success, and ultimately to a profound spiritual awakening following her sister's fatal overdose.
Dr. Harte's journey began when she realized the healthcare system wasn't serving patients or providers. Despite her doctorate in physical therapy, she was earning just $33 an hour while witnessing trainers and yoga instructors making two to five times more. With a combination of necessity (a marital crisis) and vision, she launched a cash-based practice swimming against the current of insurance-driven care. The result? A remarkable 30% profit margin in her first year by simply meeting a need others weren't addressing.
But business success wasn't the end of her story—it was just the beginning. When Dr. Harte received the devastating news of her sister's fatal drug overdose in 2022, everything changed. Despite being 15 years sober herself, this tragedy forced her to confront what she calls "soul sickness" in a new way. She began seeing addictive patterns everywhere—in her wealthy clients' obsession with productivity, martyrdom, and thinness. This awakening led her to write a bestselling book, reconnect with her early dreams of music and performance, and develop a powerful philosophy: "If you want to be a financial mogul, become a spiritual billionaire first."
Ready to transform your relationship with success, recovery, and purpose? This episode offers both practical insights for entrepreneurs and profound wisdom for anyone seeking deeper meaning. What happens when a Hollywood power broker responsible for managing millions for stars like Beyoncé and Alanis Morissette loses everything through addiction and embezzlement? Jonathan Todd Schwartz takes us on his extraordinary journey from "Diva Whisperer" to federal prison inmate to recovery advocate with unflinching honesty.
Schwartz doesn't shy away from the brutal truth – he stole $7 million from clients to fund his cocaine and gambling addictions, actions that destroyed his career, marriage, and relationship with his children. Yet his story isn't defined by his spectacular fall, but rather by his remarkable redemption. Now celebrating nine years of sobriety, Schwartz reveals how he transformed his greatest failures into a platform for helping others.
The conversation delves deep into the psychology of addiction and recovery, exploring how childhood abandonment created patterns that went unresolved for decades. Schwartz shares powerful insights about making amends (including to yourself), developing self-awareness, and learning to practice compassionate self-talk to break free from shame while maintaining radical accountability. His practical recovery tools – including writing down potential relapse consequences and practicing daily gratitude – offer tangible strategies for anyone struggling with addiction.
Perhaps most compelling is Schwartz's ability to hold two seemingly contradictory truths: complete ownership of his actions without crushing shame. Though some relationships may never be repaired – two of his sons still don't speak to him – he's found purpose as a program director at a treatment center, where his lived experience provides unique insight for clients battling their own demons.
Ready to transform your relationship with yourself? Take Schwartz's powerful advice to heart: "Have the courage to be vulnerable. Ask for help. You're worth it."

Ryan Zofay's story of transformation from addiction to spiritual abundance is nothing short of miraculous. After losing his sister at age five and being introduced to drugs by his mother at eleven, Ryan spiraled into a destructive path that included multiple felonies and culminated in a near-fatal car accident. That crash became his sobriety date—October 9, 2001—and marked the beginning of his remarkable journey to healing.
What sets Ryan apart isn't just his 24 years of sobriety or his business success, but the profound spiritual consciousness he operates from. While the 12-step program provided a foundation, Ryan found he needed to go deeper to heal his childhood trauma. Through thousands of hours of experiential therapy, he learned that conceptualizing healing isn't enough—you must actually feel the emotions to release them. "In order to truly heal it, you have to feel it," he explains.
Ryan's approach to manifestation is revolutionary. Rather than simply visualizing what he wants, he embodies his future self now, making decisions from that place of abundance. By generating the emotional state of already having achieved his goals, he collapses time and space, bringing those realities into his present experience more quickly. His daily hour-long meditation practice maintains his connection to what he calls God or universal energy, allowing him to stay present and experience divine presence everywhere.
Perhaps most powerful is Ryan's perspective on taking full responsibility: "All the things I don't like in my life, I created them. All the things I do like in my life, I created them." This mindset eliminates victimhood and places the power of change directly in our hands. Through his teaching that "our past perceived voids create our future perceived values," Ryan offers profound insight into why we get stuck in patterns and how we can break free.
Today, Ryan dedicates himself to helping others through speaking engagements, experiential workshops, and treatment programs. Whether you're struggling with addiction, processing grief, or simply seeking to manifest your dreams, his story reminds us that transformation is always possible when we combine spiritual connection with committed action. Follow Ryan @ryanzofay to learn more about his upcoming events and work.

What happens when life's carefully constructed plans crumble? For Alex Smith, the journey from small-town athlete to Miss Oklahoma to entertainment industry executive has been anything but predictable. In this raw and revealing conversation, Alex shares how she transformed unexpected setbacks into powerful comebacks through the cultivation of faith.
Growing up in a community with just 32 students in her graduating class, Alex had mapped out a future in sports until an injury forced her to reconsider everything. Reluctantly entering the pageant world, she ultimately claimed the Miss Oklahoma crown on her third attempt, launching her into a year of high-profile appearances and opportunities. But when the pageant spotlight dimmed and she didn't place at Miss USA, Alex found herself adrift, wondering what came next.
The turning point arrived through a chance encounter with speaker Tim Story, who offered advice that would become her north star: "You can either sit in the setback, settle in the setback, and cement in the setback, or you can pick yourself up and make your setback into a comeback." This mindset shift propelled Alex forward, eventually leading to her current role as Vice President of Speaker Relations for the Aspire Tour, the world's largest business conference.
Alex doesn't shy away from discussing her darkest moments, including the death of a former boyfriend in a car accident that tested her faith to its limits. Through prayer, journaling, meditation, and sound healing, she's developed daily practices that strengthen her spiritual foundations. Perhaps most compelling is her story of crisis management at her first major event, when a headline speaker canceled at 4 AM, forcing her to mobilize every contact in her network until securing NFL legend Emmitt Smith as a last-minute replacement.
For anyone navigating uncertainty or rebuilding after disappointment, Alex's journey offers a powerful reminder that faith doesn't eliminate fear—it simply needs to be slightly larger than our fears in the moments that matter most.

Your body is constantly talking to you—a hidden conversation happening beneath your conscious awareness. Yet in our neck-up, screen-focused world, we've disembodied ourselves from this essential wisdom. Meet Alexis, a transformation coach and founder of Soul Sway, who transitioned from working with A-list celebrities in entertainment to helping women globally reclaim their authentic power.
During this captivating live conversation, Alexis takes us through her own "U-turn" moments—those profound wake-up calls that forced her to reevaluate everything. From childhood trauma where her emotional expression was invalidated during a family tragedy to hitting multiple rock bottoms including cancer and postpartum depression, she reveals how these experiences became doorways to transformation rather than destinations of despair.
The most striking revelation? Everyone has some form of addiction. Whether it's scrolling social media, overworking, food behaviors, or the constant need for external validation—these patterns stem from what Alexis calls "untreated shame." Like cockroaches that scatter when exposed to light, shame thrives only in secrecy until we shine awareness upon it. True sobriety isn't just about substances but about awakening to these unconscious patterns and bringing them into consciousness through embodied awareness. As Alexis powerfully states, "If you don't have freedom in your body, you're never going to have freedom in your life." What would your body say if it could speak? This question alone might be the beginning of your own transformative U-turn.

The simple act of waking up with the sun changed everything for Rick Sugarman. What started as a desperate attempt to create more time during a business crisis transformed into a life philosophy that bridges physical wellbeing, mental clarity, and spiritual growth.
Rick reveals how "beating up the sun"—his term for a morning routine that aligns with sunrise—creates a cascade of benefits far beyond the single hour invested. By shifting just one hour from the end of his day to the beginning, he effectively tripled his productivity while discovering profound inner peace. The magic happens through alignment with our natural circadian rhythms, the solitude of early mornings, and the friction-free nature of simply stepping outside to walk.
As someone who once thought yoga was "weird" and spirituality even "weirder," Rick's journey from skeptic to practitioner carries special weight. His transformation wasn't just physical but sparked a spiritual revolution that helped him recognize and create space from ego-driven thinking. This evolution from resistance to embrace offers hope to anyone questioning whether mindfulness practices are accessible to them.
What makes Rick's approach uniquely powerful is its emphasis on making personal growth easy rather than heroic. Most of us are already stretched thin with responsibilities—we don't need another demanding regimen. Instead, Rick advocates for extending timeframes, maintaining curiosity, and finding sustainable practices we genuinely enjoy. This philosophy forms the foundation of his books about creating lasting change without superhuman discipline.
Whether you're facing uncertainty, seeking productivity hacks, or simply longing for more peace in your daily life, this conversation illuminates how small, aligned actions can create dramatic shifts in both inner experience and outer results. Try rising with the sun—you might just discover a whole new relationship with time, self, and the world around you.

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction!
Today I unexpectedly dive into the 12 steps--the ways in which the language of them keeps many people sick in and pout of recovery--and the ways in which I have reimagined them over more than a decade. This is a huge passion point for me and one of the big reasons I wrote my book in the first place. Austin and I discuss his story from addiction to recovery before dissecting the ways in which the steps have transformed our lives, but only after we had truly hit the level bot desperation required to release our limiting beliefs. If you are struggling and the steps sound like a cult, I GET IT! They were written a long time ago and need some serious updating. I promise that if we take a scientific and trauma-informed approach to these steps, extracting the universal messages in each, there is a way forward.
Stay tuned and leave a comment if you feel inspired!

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction and Happy New Year. I decided to share a recap of my year---arguably the wildest one yet. Everything I thought would happen didn't, and everything I've dreamed of happening did. I take you through my year from beginning to end, from an attempt at real estate to a tour in Japan, a retreat in Tulum to performing in Vegas, finishing my book and co-writing a screenplay and losing a close friendship while watching my mother become (once again) acutely manic. It's been a whirlwind. I hope it helps you know that you can get through it all.

Today's episode touches on some highly sensitive but really important topics--domestic abuse, relapse, and death to name a few. It is a story that must be told so the shame and stigma of violence and addiction loses its power over us individually and as a collective. Part one of Amy's story describes how it all began---the addiction, the rock bottom, and the journey into early sobriety. Stay tuned for Part two, where we discover what was behind the curtain of her tumultuous marriage and how she has survived abuse, loss and single parenting.
More About my:
Amy Davis is a sober single mother and interior designer. After spending her twenties and early thirties partying, she realized she would never live up to her full potential nor have her “happily ever after” if she kept on the same path. And on the outside it looked like she found it. But behind closed doors it quickly became a marriage fueled by domestic violence, drug and alcohol addition, financial secrecy, pathological behavior, and extreme familial enablement. After fleeing her marriage with their three year old daughter during covid, she navigated the often unfair and very expensive world of family law using every dollar she had with the support of her family and friends to secure full custody, never giving up hope he would find sobriety and peace. But one month after her divorce was finalized, her ex-husband died from a drug overdose exposing widespread financial deception and enablement, leaving her and her daughter drowning in devastating grief, loss, and confusion. Catapulted back into the legal worlds of family law and estate and probate law, the past 15 months have been very dark, but time and healing, have allowed light to pierce that darkness giving way to moments of joy and excitement for the unknown inspite of difficulties. She is learning that speaking up about her experience is taking away her story’s power over her while also helping others. Amy is passionate about de-stigmatizing the taboo topic of domestic violence which often victim-blames and bringing awareness to how dangerous, and sometimes deadly, enablement is when it comes to both domestic and substance abuse. She is also learning that “Happily Ever After” has nothing to do with what is on the outside, but everything to do with one’s own character, honor, morality, ethics, self-love, self-respect, and self-forgiveness.

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction!
Today I interview RJ Elizarraz, a man who seemingly lost everything more than once only to build back a life beyond his wildest dreams. It is a remarkable story, and a testament to how our message can truly become our message.
RJ grew up in the Conejo valley region of southern California just north of Los Angeles. He was raised in a healthy environment by loving and successful parents. By the time he was 17, he had been expelled from several high schools. 2 years later, he was a full time drug addict. Over the next decade, a long slow drug induced decline finally ended in homelessness. When he finally hit bottom, his friends had given up on him and his family was exhausted. He turned his life around by doing everything his mind to told him to resist. He opened himself up to a new way of living. He sought out others who had gotten clean & sober and followed their advice. He joined a 12 step program and made it his number one priority. In the process, a miracle occurred in his life. His old sense of self obsession gave way to a new purpose of helping others. He became completely committed to seeing others recover the way he did. His first venture was a high structure men’s sober living. The success of that home lead to a women’s sober living. And then a third sober living which consists of 3 houses on one property - all gender specific. He now oversees the operation of 5 sober living homes in the Agoura/Westlake/Thousand Oaks area. To give even more help to people who are struggling with mental health and addiction issues, he opened a PHP/IOP treatment center in Agoura/Westlake. RJ’s continuing mission is to provide more and better support to people struggling with addiction and mental health problems.
Stick around for an incredible conversation!

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction. Today I get brutally honest about the recent "co-dependency bottom" I hit and what it is forcing me to look at. My dear friend and recovery buddy, Lauren Clayton, take a deep dive into nervous system regulation, inner child work, and ACA-yet another 12 step program that tackles childhood trauma with a beautiful and imperative mix of science, psychotherapy and soulfulness.
The discussion diverges from my normal format-rather than interview someone on a specific topic they are reckoning with in recovery, Lauren and I have a back and forth discussion about the teachings and learnings we have gone through (and are currently going through) to get honest about what hurts, where it comes from, and what we can do about it.
This talk is not just for the addict-it's for anyone who grew up in or is currently surrounded by dysfunction. It is hopeful and heartfelt. Enjoy!
Today's conversation is with one of my husband's dear friends and business partners Larry Miceli. Larry, owner of LM Auto Wholesale, has more than 91/2 year sober from drugs and alcohol. He has also spent the last 30 years in automotive wholesale.
Larry has not only built a beautiful life in recovery but also built a $30 million business from a $2000 bankroll--more on that in today's episode. From addiction to recovery and betrayal to forgiveness, Larry has built a life beyond his wildest dreams. With hard work and a great client base, Larry has fostered and retained meaningful long term relationships in both his personal and professional life. Despite some setbacks, he knows he is blessed beyond measure and dare he say it, pretty darn good at what he does.
Today's episode captures the struggle and beauty of addiction, recovery, interpersonal relationships and the relationship we have with ourselves-especially our bodies. Lauren Clayton shares her story and what led her to the work she's doing in the world. We discuss it all-addiction to substances, love and external worthiness and recovery from outside validation. If you want to hear an honest conversation about dropping out of your head and into your heart, stay.
Lauren Clayton is an ex forensic therapist (where she did personality profiling and psych assessments for ex-cons recently released from federal prison). Lauren’s interest in neuroscience, neuroplasticity and epigenetics led her to establishing her private practice in 2010 where she coaches executives and celebrities as an Executive Leadership Coach and Integrative Health Coach.
Her lifelong pursuit and passion is helping her clients upgrade and optimize their psychological, emotional and physical health; as well as dramatically improve and thrive in their relationships and career.

Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction! Today's episode touches on some heavy topics, notably the real and often painful struggle of mental illness in recovery. Despite the founders of AA specifically discussing that there can and should be a place for addicts who need outside help, many people in recovery carry guilt and shame around their mental illness because they believe that working the steps should be enough to cure them. Couple that with judgment from people in recovery that medication should be avoided at all costs and you have yourself a very dangerous situation. Today Dr. Petracek, PHD and clinical psychologist, shares the truth about her addiction, recovery and ongoing battle with mental illness as a way to help others and normalize the very common experience of a concurrent diagnosis of addiction and mental illness. Together, through listening and learning, we can practice more empathy and less judgment around those who are sick and suffering. If you need help, you can find and connect with Dr. Petracek on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
BIO:
Laura Petracek, PhD, LCSW is a certified DBT therapist who, as a recovering addict herself, uses her own experiences with recovery and treatment to help others. Dr. Petracek received her Master of Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She has worked in the field of psychotherapy for more than thirty years, twenty-six of which have been spent as a practicing Clinical Psychologist in California. Dr. Petracek is an LGBTQ+ member and ally. She believes that mental illness can feel like you’re in a freefall because you’ve lost control of your mind but emphasizes that it’s okay not to be okay. She is committed to providing the highest quality psychotherapy services, as a psychologist and author, that honor where individuals are on their personal growth journeys. Dr. Petracek is the author of The Anger Workbook for Women and The DBT Workbook for Alcohol and Drug Addiction.
Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction! This short solo episode explains my personal reasons for celebrating my sober anniversaries, what they can bring up, and how they can inspire us to keep living honest and authentic lives. It's an inspiring message about walking through the hard in order to get to the magic.
Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction! Today's' guest is a dear friend, Tali Bermudez, with 13 years sober from drugs and alcohol. Her story is incredible and her sobriety is breathtaking. She began in the apparel industry, learning sales for the next ten years. Soon afterward, she moved into consulting for a prominent plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction (and living sober.) Today's guest is a sober friend and professional mastermind named Devon Craig. Early into sobriety, Devon's career took off and gave her a life on the outside that culture and years of conditioning tells us we all want. Despite lots of accolades and financial successes, her intuition told her when things weren't right. She continued to pivot and trusted that she would land on her feet. One decision at a time, her recovery proved strong enough to remind her that success doesn't mean much if we are exhausted, lonely and empty inside. Her career story is a beautiful testament to how critical it is to work a 12 step program in all areas of our lives (sober or not!) so that we stay true to what really matters-love, connection and a deep sense of belonging.
Check out her bio below!
Devon Craig is a purpose-fueled marketer dedicated to creating experiences that educate and deepen the connection between consumers and the way they consume. Devon's formative years with lululemon provided her with an incredible foundation that has inspired her work both in-house and in-agency for brands including Commune, OWN, Spotify, Roc Nation, Live Nation, The Caterpillar Foundation, Refinery29, Well + Good, Wanderlust, Adidas, Ford, and Tidal. Though Devon’s professional expertise lies in marketing, digital innovation, and product growth, her personal mission is to deconstruct our perceived sense of separateness to enable people to come together around common values and a shared sense of humanity. Devon's commitment to cultivating impact that elicits change has manifested in her deep passion for storytelling, team building, and an unyielding commitment to Diversity, Inclusion + Belonging (DIBs).
Welcome back to The Truth About Addiction! Today's episode is a beautiful discussion with a sober friend Audra who talks about her journey into recovery, and one of the most difficult things she has experienced so far in sobriety-loneliness. The universal application of this discussion is broad and expansive, and I hope it leaves you feeling a little less lonely and a little more connected. The longer I stay sober, the more I realize that we are all here experiencing the same things-love, loss, joy, grief, loneliness, hope. The 12 steps are simply a guide for navigating these often tricky things so that we can show up fully for our lives and ourselves. I love you-just for today, I hope you know that you are not alone.
Today's episode features a long time friend and successful producer named Jonathan Kalter, a man who has found his way into AA and therapy to deepen his understanding of himself and live a more joy centered life. This conversation breaks down the good and the different of 12 step programs versus therapy and vice versa, and shines a light on how important it is to stay open to all the tools available to improve our mental health. I am a firm believer that no single modality is a cure all, and that many things can be true at once. It is my lived experience that the 12 steps AND therapy have a special and significant place in my wellness journey, and we hear an honest account from Jonathan about how these two modalities have helped shape and shift his life too.
Join me in today's episode where I interview a sober friend, Alana Brooke, hailing from the heart of NYC. She and I discuss her journey from addiction to recovery, and take a deep dive into the tricky waters of interpersonal and romantic relationships in sobriety. Specifically, we discuss how easy it is to lose ourselves inside of someone else's love for us, and how that leads to the ultimate abandonment of self. We also touch on the dire need to stay deeply connected to ourselves in order to stay sober. Don't miss it!
Today's episode is deeply personal. For the first time, I speak publicly about my husband's infidelity-what led up to it, what I went through during it, and what I did to recover from it. I tell you this story because it is my truth and because the work I have done around it has led to one miracle after another. I share my heartbreak because for me, it is the only way to real freedom, and the love I kept giving away to him I now have for myself. If you've been betrayed, if you've suffered great loss, I know that pain and it is real and it is deep. I also know that if you work in it and through it, there is a liberation on the other side no matter what the outcome. Tune into today's episode for a touching story of how I turned tragic loss into triumphant love.
Today's episode is a special interview with a sober sister, Laura Greenberg, who knows a thing or two about navigating the tumultuous waters of marriage. Among other things, Laura describes overcoming some serious internal blockages that ultimately led to the collapse of her limiting beliefs and a rebirth of her inner world and ultimately, her marriage.
Check out her BIO below:
Laura’s journey began in Los Angeles. Growing up she desperately sought to find out what she was supposed to do with her life. She moved to Edinburgh, Scotland at the age of 20 to pursue avoiding answering that question. While there, she worked in the corporate world for companies like Ernst & Young and Standard Life in Human Resources. She became a keen saleswoman as a Recruitment Consultant for an international recruitment company.
Laura was lured home to the ocean breeze of Santa Monica with an opportunity to become a Flight Attendant on private jets. She spent several years flying A-list celebrities and billionaire philanthropists around the globe in luxury style.
Laura’s life took a drastic turn when she ended up in the hospital on and off for several months in 2006. Unsure of what was going on, she dove deep into studying alternative healing modalities, spirituality, and anything she could get her hands on to get better. Overcoming addiction is a big part of her story which led to a deep connection to a higher power and being of service.
Slowly, but surely she got her health back but was forever transformed. She could not go back to a life without deep purpose. She knew she was here to help others do the same – discover who they truly are and help them share it with the world.
Laura became a Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner where she learned to harness life force energy to focus on specific areas targeted for deep healing and relaxation. She spent years at an integrative healing center where she mastered guiding patients through holistic healing sessions.
Coaching became her passion when she realized that one single session could be powerful enough to create impact in someone’s life. Laura began incorporating years of experience, endless workshops, her work with leaders in this community, and her Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology into each session creating lasting change that was needed in her clients lives.
Laura’s clients include Academy award nominated actors, Executives in all industries, Producers, Entrepreneurs, Moms and Dads. She has worked with everyone from A-list celebrities and multi-billionaire philanthropists to entrepreneurs scraping by to follow their vision and bring it into reality.
Laura enjoys living with the ocean breeze of Santa Monica, CA with her husband, son, and bonus daughter. She loves cooking, traveling, kundalini, time with her soul sisters, and living a rich life filled with the whole range of the human experience.
Today's episode is a fascinating interview with Nathalie Sol Wiss, a sober sister and new mama who spent her life pursuing perfection in the fitness industry, achieving it, and feeling empty inside. She went on a healing journey to find her way back to herself, to love the body she lives in, and to use food as fuel from a place of intuition rather than a punishment for how much or little she did that day. Unsurprisingly, she fell in love with and eventually married Doctor David Wiss, a sober registered dietician who has committed his life to helping transform people's relationships with food and body into something nurturing and beautiful. Whether you're an addict or not, this episode speaks to the relentless pressure culture places on both men and women to achieve and maintain the perfect body through diet fads, workout trends, and unrealistic expectations. Join us and learn about one woman's journey back to herself.
Today's episode features a fascinating interview with Dr. Peg O’Connor, a recovering alcoholic and professor of philosophy specializing in addiction studies.
Peg has been sober for 34 years. She believes that philosophy helped her to get and remain sober, but she avoided Alcoholics Anonymous for the first 20 years of her sobriety because of the concept of a “higher power.” Now, Dr. O’Connor is the author of the forthcoming book, Higher and Friendly Powers: Transforming Addiction and Suffering (Wildhouse Publications, September 1, 2022).
In Higher and Friendly Powers, Peg O’Connor, PhD, addresses an audience much like herself: those in recovery who have struggled with the Christian-centric God at the heart of Alcoholics Anonymous. She brings our attention to a little-known fact: the term “higher power,” a touchstone in the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, was coined by William James, philosopher, psychologist, and intellectual giant of the early 20th century.
Drawing from her expertise in addiction studies and key themes from her book, Dr. O’Connor discusses:
• Understanding the Concept of “Higher Power” at the Heart of the 12-Step Program
• Why There Must Be Multiple Paths out of Addiction and No One is the Best or Right
• Why Needs in Recovery Change over Time
• Are Some People More Susceptible to Addiction
• Undertaking Spiritual Recovery in AA without a Religious Denomination
• The Barriers People Face When Seeking Treatment for Addiction
• How to Talk to People About Their Alcohol or Drug Use

Today's episode features guest star Gwendolyn Osbourne, actress, model, podcast host and ambassador for all things health and wellness. Though she has never stepped foot in a 12 step program, she very much identifies with the ruminating thoughts that accompany fear, self-doubt, and a lack of worthiness. Listen in on how she navigates this inner dialogue to find her power and live from a place of truth, authenticity and inspiration.
Check out her bio below:
Gwendolyn is an accomplished creative professional who is constantly striving for excellence in her work as an actor, singer, entrepreneur, and personal wellness coach.
Her career began as a runway, print, and commercial model that helped set the stage in becoming one of the models on The Price is Right show. A consummate professional, Gwendolyn was a part of the show for over 12 years and gained a historical accolade as the longest-running woman of color model on a game show.
She would then join the cast of Wonder Woman 1984 as one of the Amazonian Women. It was on the set of this blockbuster movie where she captured her inner strength and power and truly took stock of what it meant to be a real-life Wonder Woman. She pushed the boundaries of her physical and mental strength while mastering her craft as an actor, transcending her experience into her everyday endeavors and passion projects.
Always a believer in never taking life’s lessons for granted, Gwendolyn took her experience from her time on Wonder Woman to cultivate an inspiring message for women and developed a podcast that creates meaningful conversations with other women of all different backgrounds and professions. Tea with Gwen embodies her commitment to supporting women at scale by creating a platform that shares inspiring and motivating stories.
Gwendolyn’s never-ending pursuit of connecting the body, mind, and spirit energized her to learn more about nutrition, skincare, and the science behind it all. Which has led her to launch Lomolique, an innovative anti-aging facial oil that combines cell regeneration properties with natural ingredients found in plants. However, her pursuit of connecting the body, mind, and spirit into one doesn’t end here. After completing and graduating courses with The Path organization, she also became a certified Meditation Teacher.
Gwendolyn’s drive to pursue excellence in her life has always been inspired by her three talented and creative children, ranging from 9 to 25 years old. They have become a source of inspiration and determination to be an example of what it truly means to live a life of a real-life Wonder Woman.
Today's episode interviews a man named Pejman Alaghamandan, a pillar of Alcoholics Anonymous who has more than 15 years of recovery and has founded multiple sober living facilities. We hear his story of addiction and recovery and the miraculous ways in which he has turned tragedy into triumph. This includes tales of abuse, incarceration, and involuntary manslaughter. It also includes tales of hope, inspiration, beauty and joy. Read his bio below for more detail and join us on this spiritual journey where fear meets faith and pain meets power.
Pejman Alaghamandan who also goes by “Pej” is an Iranian man born in Germany and raised in the United States from the age of five. Growing up Pej always felt different due to his skin color and nationality. He was bullied as a youngster and encountered a lot of verbal, physical, and mental abuse within his home. Pej experimented with alcohol as far back as six or seven years old and experienced his first black out at the age of twelve.
When Pej was seventeen, he was driving his friends to school hungover and had a fatal car accident, causing death to a young teenager riding his bicycle to school. Pej went off the deep end and drowned his guilt, shame, and sadness in drugs and alcohol. He was later incarcerated as a juvenile and spent some time in the psych portion of the facility when he was deemed a danger to his own life. After he was released, he became sicker than ever.
In his addiction, Pej’s lifestyle consisted of dangerous drug dealing and excessive drug using. The party life was the only thing he knew. Through his artistic abilities he created his own company, but it ultimately collapsed in the face of his addiction. By the age of 35, Pej had experienced many jails, institutions, and near death experiences as well as homelessness. He finally threw up the white flag and asked for help and in that moment, the recovery process began. Now, staying sober every 24 hours is his only way of life.
Welcome to today’s episode featuring a sober friend and female powerhouse, Shelton Wilder. Her bio says it all:
Shelton Wilder hails from Charlotte, North Carolina but loves Los Angeles as only a native can. In her over fifteen years on the Westside, Shelton has developed a nuanced understanding of LA's complex and often bewildering patchwork of neighborhoods, schools, and cultures. In just over six years as a realtor--but many more as a serial entrepreneur in marketing, fashion, and entertainment---Shelton has achieved a staggering $300 million in total sales, putting her in the top 1.5% of realtors nationwide. Shelton was also nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year by the LA Business Journal, named Real Estate All-Star by Los Angeles Magazine and featured in Forbes “Top 10 Business Professionals to look out for in 2022.”
While she specializes in luxury residential and commercial properties in Brentwood, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Mar Vista, Venice and Beverly Hills, Shelton will travel anywhere her clients have interests. Buying a home is often the most important purchase--and investment--of a person's life. It's also one of the most intense experiences of a person’s life, particularly in the ever more competitive Los Angeles market. Shelton is committed to making the process as stress-free as possible. Her compassion, patience, exuberance, and gentleness distinguish her from many with comparably acute business sense and vigorous skills of negotiation.
Whether working with a first-time buyer on a starter home or an experienced investor buying a third residence, Shelton is equally dedicated to helping her clients achieve their dreams. This unparalleled devotion, born of a genuine desire to be of service to others, explains why 99% of Shelton's business comes via referral or past clients. The testimonials say it all: when you hire Shelton once, you become part of her extended family--and a client for life. Her relationship-centric approach also explains Shelton's success in securing "off-market" listings. With inventory at an all-time low, hidden listings routinely come to her from former clients and associates who trust her and recognize both her integrity and professionalism.
Clients also benefit from Shelton's superb aesthetic sense and extensive background in fashion (she started several fashion-oriented businesses, one of which appeared on Shark Tank). While she enlists the expertise of the industry's top stagers, Shelton brings her imagination, along with her passion for decor and design, to each listing. This loving and enthusiastic attention to the smallest details makes every client feel like she's in their corner --because she is.
Shelton is the proud mother of two beautiful boys (Beau and Lane) and the wife of a longtime Los Angeles attorney and avid tennis junkie and Rams fan, Clark. In addition to volunteering at her son’s elementary school, Shelton also donates her time and resources at P.S. Arts, The Alexandria House, LA Food Bank and Upward Bound House. In her free time, she enjoys dining out with her wonderful friends and colleagues and indulging in staycations in her favorite location in the entire world, Los Angeles.
Welcome to this special episode with my dear friend Rebecca Schaffer, a sober sister who has been trudging this road along side me since before we were sober. Not only do we discuss how our lives collided and we found ourselves in recovery, but we also explain the highs and lows of motherhood in recovery. We keep it honest, funny and real.
Today's episode is deeply personal as I take you into my world---my childhood, my trauma, and my grief. I also take you into all the lessons I have learned along the way-my resilience, my bravery, my compassion and my unrelenting love for who I have become. I believe my story is a manifesto of how to keep an open heart despite how many times it breaks. Navigating grief has been one of the most excruciating things in sobriety and I am in the thick of it right now.
