The game was one of the most bizarre games ever played, due to a heavy downpour that absolutely flooded the field in ShreveportLouisiana, conditions that made it more than difficult to advance the ball either running or passing, puddles that rose above the players ankles, both coaches appeared to wait for the other team to make a mistake as the two teams combined for an NCAA record 77 punts, 39 by Texas Tech and 38 by Centenary of Louisiana. An astounding 67 punts occurred on first down, including 22 consecutively in the third and fourth quarters.

Today we discuss the day Harvard beat Yale 29-29, Nov 23rd, 1968. On Nov 23rd, 1968, the Harvard Crimson entered ‘The Game’, 8-0. The Yale Bulldogs entered ‘The Game’ 8-0. The Ivy League title was at stake for arguably the Ivy League’s and quite possibly, college football's most intense rivalry. The Crimson trailed the game 29-13 late in the 4th quarter. Then the Crimson went on a 14 play, 86 yd drive to close the gap to 29-21 with 42 seconds remaining. A successful 2-pt conversion and a recovered on-side kick followed by a 14-yd run, and a face mask penalty, all went to set up the famous last play with 4 seconds remaining. On the last play, QB Frank Champi avoided a fierce pass rush and found HB Vic Gatto in the end zone. With no time on the clock, Champi hit Pete Varney to complete the utterly implausible comeback, 16 pts in the final 42 seconds. The next day as the Harvard Crimson ran the headlines, ‘Harvard Beats Yale, 29-29.’

Today we discuss legendary coach Mike Donahue, Auburn Tigers, 1904-06 & 1908-1922. Mike Donahue coached the Auburn Tigers for 18 seasons, for all but one year from 1904-1922 and compiled a 99-35-5, winning 73% of his games. He forged two legendary teams, one national championship, another that was un-scored upon, a 23-game beaten streak, and an epic upset.

Today we discuss the two-game NCAA record rushing barrage by Rueben Mayes, Washington State Cougars. Reuben Mayes, the 6-foot, 208-pound junior from North Battleford, Saskatchewan, rushed for 216 yards in a game where the Cougars scored a whirlwind of 35 points in just 15:14 seconds of game time, and then Mayes topped that achievement the next week as he set an NCAA rushing record of 357 yards and in doing so, set another NCAA record, rushing yards in consecutive games, 573 yards.

Today we discuss legendary coach Eddie Hurt, Morgan State Bears, who compiled a 57 game unbeaten streak from 1931-1938, posting a 54-0-3 record, 57 games without a loss. In this time span, his Bears won 2 HBCU national championships. In 1943, Coach Hurt 1943 team went undefeated-untied-unscored upon. In all, coach Hurt’s Bears won 6 HBCU National Championships in a 17-year span from 1933-1949, including 3 in 4 years from 1943-1946. And his Bears won 14 CIAA conference championships from in a 27-year span. 1930-1956.

Today we discuss Barry Sanders's 1988 season, arguably the greatest season in college football history. In 1988 Barry Sanders of the Oklahoma State Cowboys set 34 NCAA records, including 2,628 yds, 39 touchdowns and 21.3 yds points per game
