TGJ News Show . A regular news round up show of whats been going on in the two wheel world over the past week or two. Think more "talking shop over beer" and less 'news desk' but you get the point. Part one of our "Where Be Boru" series as we track down Boru McCullagh on his epic "Mind Mapping" round the world bike ride. In todays show we find him at the end of a long very wet day, in a little hotel in the Bosnian city of Mostar and hear a little more about why he decided to tackle to this exciting adventure.
Quick note, for various technical reasons the audio qualitiy is not what we would normally want here on TGJ but like I say in the intro, we think the story is the most important part and so its well worth putting up with the less than ideal sound on this one!

Our guest today is Brady Lawrence, a Seattle-based documentary filmmaker. His first feature documentary, "Into The Rift" was selected for 'Best Event Documentation' in the Bikepacking 2020 Awards and tells the story of the Atlas Mountain Race in Morocco. A gruelling event created by the one and only Nelson Trees, creator of the Silk Road Mountain Race.
It was the Silk Race that lead to Brady’s next project in which he followed the 2021 version of this race releasing a film called "How to Bikepack the Silk Road Mountain Race".
We sit down with Brady and unpack what goes into the creation of these beautifully made films.

Great show today, sitting down with Berlin based Raphael Albrecht. An ultra-endurance cyclist taking on events such as the Silk Road Mountain race & Atlas Mountain Race to mention but a few. Now working full time on Orbit 360, a gravel cycling festival and initiative where their homepage has the great line - "Welcome to the galactic future of (gravel)-riding. We are a bunch of friends who want to make ultra cycling accessible for everyone!
We discuss a number of topics today such as Raphael's personal experience riding the Silk Road (great story in there involving a local herdsmen, a cycling jacket and freezing conditions). We touch on the idea of unsupported bike packing races and how the idea of 'unsupported' can become a bit blurry in an age of winning and media exposure.
Lastly and probably most importantly for me, we discuss the Ride For A Reason or #ridefar initiative. A great way of putting in some big miles and testing ourselves while at the same time helping those less fortunate than us to be able to join the wonderful world of cycling.

A great conversation with Sule Kangangi of Team Amani Cyling, a Kenyan road cycling professional now aiming at the world of gravel racing. We discuss the difficult origins of a Kenyan cyclist in a 'country of runners' and how a 4 day gravel race in the Maasai Mara - The Migration Gravel Race with the likes of Ian Boswell and Laurens ten Dam has really started to raise the profile of african gravel riding.
With lofty goals such as Unbound Gravel and the Cape Epic, we cant wait to see Sule battling it out with some fo the big hitters this year.
