Patrick speaks with Independent Producer and Comedian Kimmie Lovegrove. Kimmie Lovegrove is a proud Ngarrindjeri woman from the lower Murray River and Coorong Lakes. She runs her own business Kungari Productions where she produces Kungari Comedy.
In this episode Patrick and Kimmie discuss the start of her journey in the Comedy Industry. Discussing some of the difficulties of creating space in a white male dominated landscape. Throughout the conversation, Kimmie also explains how she manages being a Producer and Comedian during the same season, while also dealing with COVID during MICF 2022.

Patrick speaks with Executive Producer and Co-Director of Back to Back Theatre, Tim Stitz. Tim’s recent history within the arts sector include positions at the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) Office, Arts Centre Melbourne and Creative Partnerships Australia. Tim was Creative Director & CEO of Chamber Made from 2013 – 2018, and was involved in raising $3.2-million for the rebuild of Melbourne’s iconic La Mama Theatre, following the devastating 2018 fire.
In this episode Patrick and Tim discuss some shared experiences as there careers have intersected over the past few year. Reflect on some of the challenges and revival of international touring at the moment and examine grants and funding while looking at multi-faceted funding.

With a keen inclination towards entrepreneurship she is the founder & Director of Nostalgic Events and co-founder of DC Workspace. Leading a young team of creatives she co-founded & is the producer of the annual Rise of South Sudan Concert & networking platform Blaxcellence. She is also a founding member of the Way Over There Collective – a group dedicated to increasing opportunities for artists in outer South-East Melbourne.
In this episode Patrick and Kush, explore how Kush's career beginnings, looking at the Rise of South Sudan and also experiences with VIPI. Thy also open up and talk around being the natural organiser, mental health, career fatigue and navigating boundaries in the in the industry.

PRODUCERS IN CONVERSATION W/ Lyall Brooks.
Patrick speaks with the founding Artistic Director of Lab Kelpie Inc, Lyall Brooks. Since 2012 Lab Kelpie has presented 250 performances in almost 100 disparate venues across Australia and New Zealand to over 18,000 audience members. Lyall has pitched at many national and state touring marketplaces and has produced and/or coordinated four national tours in the past five years. He continues to mentor both producers and artists in the independent theatre sector all across the state.
In this episode, Patrick and Lyall launch into the ever-present Imposter Syndrome and how to deal with the condition in the Arts, or at least attempt to. They explore the complexities of producing a Tour at good times and bad; and also how to look at setbacks as a chance to change and create something new and better.

Patrick speaks with self-producing artist/comedian Anna Piper Scott. A Melbourne-based stand-up comedian on the rise. A trans woman of remarkable wit and social insight, Anna is a skilled writer and bold performer. Her comedy is incisive, relatable, well-crafted and flat-out funny. Most recently, she debuted her new show Such An Inspiration at the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, a show that Chortle called “a hard-hitting show… that puts the ‘trans’ in transgressive”.
In this episode, Patrick and Anna examine the complexities of producing yourself while also making Art. Knowing when and how to ask for help in the process of putting on a show or how to start small if you are just getting into the business, and also how to set your own goals and context for success and why it's important to have those points to see and celebrate.

PRODUCERS IN CONVERSATION W/ Belle Hammond
Patrick speaks with Independent Producer Belle Hammond. With a career as an administrator in the Arts Industry since 2002, Belle has worked at some of the largest Arts Organisations including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Festival Centre and more. The pandemic allowed some extra free time to pursue independent producing including becoming the ‘Responsible Adult’ with kids theatre company The Listies.
Belle’s latest production is Green Room Award-nominated ‘Memoir of a Tired Carer’ at Melbourne Fringe. In this episode Patrick and Belle discuss the journey after 20 years in the industry, identifying her own producing skills and "becoming a producer". Reflecting on the importance of not just professional networks but friendships in the arts, how the lack of maintaining those relationships leads to missed opportunities.
Throughout the conversation, Patrick and Belle share their perspectives and experiences of festival environments, both as independent Producers/Artists and also Festival workers within the organisation.
