Food for thought: Can Black people really say we are traditional or what “traditional” relationships? Traditionally, I believe our references are different than how we are describing it today. Yes, men and women had roles even way back then, but I feel there were still differences from how we define things today. Follow my IGs: https://www.instagram.com/healingissexylife/

I feel like there’s a distinction between good manhood and being a good leader and that shouldn’t be the case. A man who is a good man is generally going to be making strides to be a good leader in his circles of influence. A man who leads doesn’t point blame or shuts down and avoids situations. We NEED more men to be GOOD LEADERS. We need more men to correlate manhood with being good leaders and leading by example. Join the Healing Is Sexy (H.I.S.) Yesterday I caught a Live where several of the viewers were trashing the character of one on the interviewees. It’s sad so many people had that type of energy to focus on someone who was living her truth. Let people live their truth! And also, let’s stop normalizing our trauma! Bible said he who finds a wife. Not he who makes a woman his wife. It means you as a woman already are. You aren’t supposed to be waiting for a man to make you into a wife. You’re that already. If you’re hurt and broken you won’t know HOW TO KEEP a good thing even if you’re fortunate to find it. You’re normal of hurt and brokenness and complacency isn’t grounds for growth so all you reciprocate into your relationships are hurt and brokenness.
A healthy person isn’t going to stay or be able to even grow with you in that. YOU have to be willing to fix you and do the work for YOU to be able to be fertile soil to be planted into and have something productive grow: a healthy relationship.
If we really knew what healthy relationships looked like mind games wouldn’t work. Ppl who use ghosting are using abandonment issues to trigger attachments. People who use berating or arguing or destroying behaviors are using toxic issues or styles to condition the other person to normalize that abuse.
Ladies I’ve done a few videos on this before but we’ve got to get out of the mind frame of forecasting the future and wanting to be found and married sooo bad that we are willing to waste time with the wrong person. He’s not going to be different or change if he’s shown you such. Fellas, same thing. Join the Healing Is Sexy (H.I.S.) Wait List: http://www.healingissexylife.com/#/

Stop paying for placeholders in your love life! Takers are opportunists. It means they don’t know how to appreciate you going above and beyond, they don’t know how to reciprocate it, they don’t know and they don’t care. You can walk on eggshells to keep them happy and they will still find a way to find something wrong and make it your fault and throw everything you’ve ever invested in them out the window and say you were the one wasting their time! Stop settling for less. Remember, healing is a process and a journey. It's a choice we make each and every day. You got this and I'm rooting for you! P.S. Fellas this does actually apply to you as well!!! I think I said it didn’t but I was wrong. It sure does!

The Ask Black Love Panel answers:
If while dating things go south in the relationship, should women wait for the man to get back at her? Or is it okay for her to reach out or would that be seen as chasing?
What's something about Black marriages we don't see or hear often enough that more married couples and even singles should be aware of?

Leading with your wallet is not the way to go in today's dating society with modern women. That's the old way of doing things. Modern women are looking for more meaningful connections and are capable of showing themselves a good time and maybe even treating men worthy of her time too.

It's easy and even the narrative to point out the angry or strong Black woman with underlying trauma, but the Black traumas our communities have experienced isn't limited to just Black women. We don't hear or talk enough of the constant struggles of Black men and how this impacts their daily lives and relationships with Black women. At the end of the day more of us, both Black men and women need to tap into more resources, do the work on self, and learn to have better interactions with one another.

Today we see countless video advocating for women to be more feminine and more submissive (whatever that means as it's subjective to each person's interpretation). As always, I'd like to offer a different perspective. There are too many untold stories of happy, successful relationships (even celebrities) of women who aren't so feminine, and are in fact pretty masculine. Can you name a few power couples? Ladies, don't fall for the hype. Be true to who you are as long as it's healthy. Tune in. Found something insightful? In 2021 we have to evolve and adapt. The dating world and our society has changed SO much in so little time and it's not slowing down or ever going back to the old ways... so men and women have to adapt and get out of our comfort zones in order to be a part of shaping a new norm in which we find happiness together. In this sit down, Charles answers: If there was a sort of guide/manual to help Black men learn and grow into the best version of themselves what do you believe that would look like? How do you feel about the idea that more men should feel comfortable in more of their feminine energy (being vulnerable, feeling/talking/expressing emotions vs. holding it all in, using emotional intelligence, etc)? AND MORE!
Tune in for some insightful discussion!

Detroit Boyz Rock is an initiative of The Association for Youth Empowerment (AYE), dedicated to creating a world where young black men and boys are empowered to create and define for themselves what being a man is. They are clear that their own life has meaning and a purpose and, accordingly understand that they have a role that is necessary and vital in their community, in their family, in their schools and are responsible for maintaining, developing and expanding that role. The purpose of this event is to have a space where Sheisart’s audience and others can talk about black love and its importance, unpacking the many layers of black love and what impacts our relationships with one another. There are many historical ties to the way black folks love each other today. In this conversation we want to talk about where people may be going wrong and where people may be going right and why, when it comes onto black love. This is because black love is needed, not just today on Valentine’s Day (date of this recording) but everyday day for the kids, for society, and for all.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a bash against black people dating outside of their race, but rather a focus on black love and how it can be improved for the future.
Jazzie & Melissa share so many gems:
1:16 How they met & connected after, from work friends to a fun night out at Karaoke

*13:37 Step by step strategy to ensure success in your marriage. Address your shit ‼️
16:58 the best part of being married. Being vulnerable and overcoming one’s fears of divorce or their love not being reciprocated. Also, empowering your partner/spouse to walk in their truth
21:50 when both people are used to always being right and learning how to grow as a couple from two independent people. Learning how to experience conflict without giving up too soon and accepting you are wrong.
25:04 Leveling up with your spouse on finances. Having this hard talk.
Imposter syndrome, being Black, Queer, & Happily Married, putting appropriate considerations behind what you share: mentality, physically, emotionally, etc, appreciating singlehood, your grandma hates your grandpa (stop mimicking your grandparents), there is no perfect couple, unspoken expectations for your kids when you may come from struggle, as a Queer person you choose who your family is and forget gender roles

Ahmad & Toya share:
10:10 When a man tells you he’s not ready. Respecting it even if you are disappointed. Honesty really is the best policy over ghosting and the lies, especially on the man’s part even if she hates you for it. It lays the foundation.
15:00 Men tend to be retrospective in nature on these matters. Don’t mess up her good thing if you’re not ready.
17:40 The relationship-job analogy. People can follow the work protocols of 2 week notices to maintain a good relationship. The same mentality should be in effect with relationships. Be willing to have honest conversation and give fair notice vs. allowing drama to damage the relationship.
18:27 Reconnecting on chance after 1 year.
22:50 Friendship is the best part of being married. Fighting for vs. against each other when things go south. Your best friend is the person you marry. Breaking out of the “yes” men circle (family and loved ones) and taking an honest look at self, going beyond the surface of dates and vacations. Growing in marriage. It can make you a better person.
24:00 Transitioning your mindset to serving your spouse. Almost divorcing. It takes both spouses working on self for marriage to work. Battling the culture you grew up in. 28:50 Don’t floss. Be the same person you presented yourself to be while pursuing each other and be prepared to grow from there. Don’t have your spouse wondering who they married.
30:47 Men talk on communication and flossing. Most women want authenticity and to feel needed. Get rid of the representative. Authority impresses the (right) woman who sees a partnership. Women are willing to get their hands dirty and put in the work too. Men need to stop letting pride get in the way of a woman helping. End toxic masculinity that’s killing to love between men and women. A woman is a HELPMATE. There’s nothing wrong with help because no one accomplishes anything by themselves.
34:55 Importance of being intentional about rebuilding marriage. Intentional Bible study and family conferences to check in with each other. Intentional questions. Building friendship back up. Making things align in your marriage and modeling your marriage for success goes beyond checking couple stuff off your couple to-do list.
