How are you?

I am sharing a routine I made for a beautiful song from my favorite timeless movie: PRETTY WOMAN.

I'v watched the movie several times. For some, the movie may be problematic in many ways. Like how the movie suggests that all sex workers want to be relieved from their situation, how sexual harassment are taken lightly, and how it okay to blur the line between professional and personal matters in the "work place". Of course, it is a movie and you don't expect everything to be realistic and cater to everyone's ideals and values.

Nevertheless, it was a very good movie. Vivien was very beautiful, her fashion were timeless and most of the scenes are worth watching over and over again. It's definitely a movie I love rewatching if I want to relax and feel good.

Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly

If there's something I want to tell myself 10 years ago was that to take it easy - I was obsessed with doing things perfectly and as flawlessly as I could. I was too hard on myself that made me exhausted for several times.

It was pole that taught me how to let go of always trying to be perfect. In the first 3 years of pole, I strived hard to look as perfect as the pole dancers I aspire to but my body couldn't do it - it was just not capable, yet. Back then, I always taught that best effort equates to best results. This wasn't the case for pole. No matter how hard I trained, now matter how many bruises I get, my feet still flex, I can't hold a pose and I wasn't strong enough to look graceful.

But if I had allowed my "pefectionist" self to prevail, I wouldn't have taught my self to be better. In pole dancing, you cannot let the obsession for perfection triumphs over the idea of "just do it and stay consistent".

The most important benefits of "just doing it" was clarity. If you just do things and take action while trusting the process, no matter how uncertain, no matter how impossible the end goal - eventually it will give you clarity. Hence, it is very important to take action because when something is worth doing - it is worth doing poorly.

I'm taking a breather on everything as the past two weeks has been a lot of pressure for me. I had to juggle my day job, my side job, my small business (that I luckily share with a business partner), school. and training. Quite a lot if you imagine, well it is.

My side job came to me just very recently and now I am contemplating about leaving gradschool because I'd really just rather drop it that half-assing around. This week, my body is just so exhausted I had to skip training 2 days in a row just to sleep.

Hi! It's my first time after a long while to dance in heels.

A short story:

I only have 3 pleaser shoes. A pair of boots, a red glittery 9 inch heels and a red 7 inches heels. My black boots (8 inches heels) was bought by my friend, Roxanne. I always loved it but she needed a pair more than I do, anyway I have two other pairs.

I always adored by red 9 inches heels but seldom use it because I was too scared to ruin it. However, during the quarantine, It was just stuck in the closet, unused for more than a year and when I finally tried it on for a little spin, it snapped :(.

This black, matte 9 inches boots is owned by a dear friend Juli. I borrowed it take for a short spin. It's probably time to buy myself a new pair :) Til next time!

Here's a short video of the shapes where my first 3 NFT's are inspired from. It's from a short routine I made while dancing to one my favorite Beatles song, "Something". I am proud of the first three NFT's I minted and I am excited about the rest of the collection I will be uploading on Curate.

LONG STORY YOU MAY NOT BOTHER READING:

When I first uploaded my video on twitter I deleted it after few hours after receiving nasty comments from a male-dominated-cryptosphere. I used to get hurt and frustrated receiving these comments but later on, I realize I can never force anyone to see my sport the way I see it. However, this couldn't stop me from sharing something I really am proud of.

When I was a kid, I knew my body wasn't made to be atheletic. I was the slowest runner, couldn't play soccer, terrible dancer and never learned how to swim until I was a teenager. I've been to chess club, math club, debate club and cathechist (LOL) club in highschool but never anything that would require cardio, muscle strength or any sort of body coordination. I hated PE class because I hate "sucking" at something.

When I discovered pole dancing, not only did I need to overcome my physical weakness but also my state of mind. I had to first convince my self I can train my body to be strong, flexible and graceful. In my first two years I had to go home with so many bruises and could barely walk the day after training. I had to push my self very hard. I promised my self I will be consistent.

The step from zero to one was the hardest part. I am still not very flexible and I get frustrated sometimes about how little progress I made with my upper body strength. It's not everyday that I can push myself really hard and it's not everyday that I can make significant progress in my training. Before, I get mad at myself for "not doing enough" but later on I realize, it's not what I came here for. I love pole dancing. It's not supposed to be something that will give me anxiety or stress - I have my job, my bills and rude people in the internet to do that for me.

So whatever unpleasant comments I receive, I'm just gonna keep on flying and floating. I'm gonna keep dancing until I can't anymore :)

Thank you for reading until this far. I don't really know what this has to do with my NFT's

til next time

Finally! I could do three pull-ups on a spinning pole.

March this year I told my self I want to be able to improve my pull-ups on a spinning pole. I can normally do 6 pull-ups (3 sets) on a static pole but it is a lot different in a spinnin pole. Besides arm strength, you have to engage your core and also swing with the momentum on the spinning pole. It actually took time for me to get it because my practice was intermittent. I start with static pole pull-ups, then proceed to spinning with a single pull-up, then two. I just slowly progress with my conditioning until today, without thinking too much about it, I made an attempt to insert in as an intro to my routine. I was really happy and surprised with what my body can do.

The song is a Cebuano Song "Sinesine" by Missing Filemon

The hell week of Gradschool is over and I'm slowly getting my momentum back up in the pole. The past week has been a challenge though, because of unexpected opportunity that came to me (and I couldn't say no). With my new schedule, I will be spending less time in training so I have to make the most of it. Lately, I try to squeeze in my strengthening exercise with learning new tricks on pole (I used to do both in separate days). Also, I could only spend stretching twice or once a week, so I hope my extremely tight hamstring is okay with that. It felt very overwhelming for my body and I just knock out on the couch after training.

I hope I could keep up with the new routine. I still hope to be able to upload some video for the Hive Community. I definitely couldn't be writing/blogging anymore because my schedule is going to be really tight. Uploading my training video is the best I can do for now.

It's my 42nd video by the way, thanks for keeping up :))

I have been watching Cryptobanter since June of 2021. It is a cryptocurrency youtube channel where most of early knowledge in crypto came from. I love the positive energy, the community and the people behind it: Ran, Sheldon and Fred. Everyday on their stream, they play this music for their intro. I honestly first hated it and wanted to skip this part but the more video streams I watch, the more the song sticks on my head. I have to admit that right now, I cannot help but dance with the beat - it gives me so much vibe. LOL

The song is titled Your New Morning Alarm by Marc Rebillet

This trick is so painful on my elbows. I love how the shapes look so simple but the end part (0:29) when I hooked my right elbow on the pole, pulling my right hand down with my left hand, and letting go of my right hooked leg- basically bearing all my weight on my elbows is so freaking painful. I am proud how I am able to hold this pose but I'll I honestly feel like I'm gonna shit on my shorts.

The song is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen - a favorite classic

Here's a short video from last week's training while dancing to one of my favorite Beatles song: Something. I have been so inspired by a pole dancer in instagram, @bouboulette. Most of the shapes in this videos are inspired from her. Took me almost 2 hours of practice to execute the whole flow smoothly.

Lately I have been juggling work, other work and school that I have to set aside pole training. Lately I could only spend time at pole for 5 hours in a week ( I used to spend 10 hours on an average).

A lot has changed since pandemic happened, for one, there's a lot less time for socialilzing. On the bright side though, I am more productive with training and work. Initially it was hard to not see my students (I used to teach pole, as my "other work") and my friends but it's been more than a year and I already got the hang of it. In the end of the day, I am still grateful I can still connect with my friends- thank God for the internet.

Hello my friends!

> How do you stick on the pole?

I get this questions so frequently from my friends who are not in to pole dancing. There are many factors that help us "stick" to the pole:

Upper body Strength

A strong back and arms can help relying too much on your grip to keep your self from falling off the pole.

Core Engagement

Yep. You might not expect this has something to do with keeping yourself on the pole but it does. Consciously. Our core coneects our upper body and lower body and transfers forces from one to another. Engaging the core improves balance and stability. It's hard to stay up on the pole when you're all unstable and wobbly. The core calso gives you power to push through climbs and drive power from your legs and hips to your arms.

Spinning Momentum

Using the spin to your advantage can make it easier to stay up the pole. For example, positioning your body to decrease moment of inertia- which also increase rotation speed and pulls your body inwards the axis of rotation which is the pole.

warm up the pole..and your body

You will find that you stick better on pole with warm body (but not sweaty)

Keep your skin moisturized but not oily

The more hydrated you are, the more grippy the skin is. Apply lotion on your body on days YOU ARE NOT ON THE POLE. This is very important. Oil in lotions can make the pole very slippery

Clean pole

Dusty and greasy pole is impossible to stick to

Use Gripping aids

This is the last resort. There are many gripping aids available made specially for pole. The keeps the hand dry and some have added sticking properties that are usually based on beeswax.

Strengthen your grip

There is no better way to have stronger grip on the pole than to actually practice on the pole

Hello My Friends!

This music is very special to me because this was the song I danced for my best friend on her wedding day. I do not have a video but it doesn't matter. She was very happy about it and will forever keep the memory of her smile on her special day.

The song is about a love the writer regrets ending and struggles over the love that was broken. It suggests of a past love that has gone through wounds and pain but the writer would be willing to fight the love back and would never let it happend if he could turn back time. Though the song is kind of a heartbreak song, it is still full of so much love:"I'd climb every mountain, and swim every ocean. Just to be with you". I honestly had goosebumps when I performed it - like how I did when I first listened to the song.

Until next time.

Hello my friends!

Here's a cute routine on a spinning pole with a very pin-up vibes. The song is But I am a Good Girl by Christina Aguilera.

I have always loved the pin-up style. They are very glamorous photos back in the 20th century which literally meant photos of modeals being "pinned-up" on a wall.

The song was from the movie Burlesque where Christina Aguilera also starred as the protagonist of the movie. In the early 19th century, pin-up modeling had origins in the theaters from burlesque performers that use posters to advertise their shows. Back then, the views on women were tied to their sexuality.

It's funny how society changed from way back in the 1800's when a glimpse of a woman's bare ankle could be considered scandalous. In the 1920s while the husbands are away at war, women tasted freedom from their domesticated life which brought the heightened sense of youthful rebellion. Women are more wild, and was more eager to show some skin. This was illustrated to how pin-up girls dress up with shorter skirts and more exposed shoulders and chest. In the 1940s, the world war made pin-up girls more popular as government tries to boost the morale of soldiers by showing them illustrations of their women waiting for them home. The pin-up photos of women were on the barracks, submarines and the soldier's pockets.

Fast forward to the 1950's when people realize that SEX SELLS. This was when the erotic tactics were extended to advertising, first actualized by Madison Avenue in the 1950s. This also inspired the birth of Playboy in 1953.

Hello my friends!

Today's pole video is a static combo that was inspired by various pole dancers on instagram. I honestly forgot where I saw this moves. It's been quite a while since I last practiced moves on a static pole. When I started pole dancing, all I ever wanted to do was to practice on a static pole because spinning pole used to make me very dizzy and I just throw up everytime we have a spinning class. Eventually though, I got the hang of it and when I did, I couldn't stop flying on a spinning pole.

The static pole, is a different animal because you do not have momentum as your friend. Spinning pole can help you build momentum for your invert and other pole moves. You can also use the spinning inertia to hold a pose for along time. Static pole requires more power and strength to pull off a dynamic move. When I do my conditioning exercises, I usually do them in a static pole because it demands more strength and power.

Today's training song is "Build a Bitch" by Bella Poarch. It's about a song telling a man to be realistic about his standards for women's physical appearance. There is some truth about this song, of course. When finding a partner, it's hard to look for the most beautiful or handsome person, because you will definitely meet someone more beautiful of more handsome than your partner and you could not just leave one for the other for these shallow reasons.

But beyond just physical appearance, do we really have to set our standards low? Lowering your standard does not necessarily imply a negative connotation. It is just judgements and assumptions often prevents us from having a potential happy and healthy relationship.

Being a pefectionist, can be draining and unhealthy. If you seek out flaws and errors to every potential partner it can be sabotaging your own life. Humans are flawed, and attending to this flaws is what makes us grow.

Hello Friends!

Here's another pole video of a very cute song I discovered in my spotify lately.

*"I'll be sippin' Mai-Tais

Looking back at my life

Remembering the highlights

Thinking how the time flies

I'll be watching sunsets

And I won't have one regret

It's hard to see it at the moment"*

I could imagine playing this song, sippin on my favorite cocktail, which may or may not be Mai Tai, in my retirement home, thinking about how I lived my life in my youthful years.

This song makes me ask myself, can I really sing this song to myself in the future? Will I be remembering these days with no regrets when I look back at my life, in my grey hair and wrinkly face? What is feeling of regret, really?

For me feeling regretful is a negative emotion when looking backwards, reconsidering past decisions of doing (or not doing) something. No matter how appealing the "no regrets" cult to the young minds is, if you think about it, its impossibly ridiculous. For me, regrets are essential - they teach us a lot about ourselves from the decisions we see as mistakes. To have no regrets, it would mean we have done everything in our life perfectly as we want it to be. Striving to live my young years fearing of having regrets in the future is too unhealthy because my mistakes has always been an opportunity for me to reasses my self and my values.

However, years from now, I want to still be able to sing this song to myself, not having zero regrets, but instead, feeling grateful of the life I lived and the lessons I learned.

Until next time.
