TV’s top interior designer Shaynna Blaze joins us to discuss how she and her children are shining a light on gender violence through the arts, stepping into the film world with their debut, The Fort, a necessary and powerful portrait of an abusive relationship and intergenerational trauma.

This week Broad Radio ended up being a little different! Bu as they say, the show must go on! We had 3 hosts because Jo had to nick off halfway through the show and when Nelly Thomas came down with a bug, producer Cecelia Ramsdale stepped in to share hosting duties with comedian Jennifer Wong, they discovered they had a shared love of books as readers and audioook narrators and then they had a very enlightening chat with Walkley Award winning author and columnist, Jane Caro, who is aiming to bring a Voice of Reason to federal politics.
Jane says there's a lot to be done to make sure we leave this planet in the best shape we can for our grand kids and she wants to be a voice for women over 55, who are some of the most vulnerable when it comes to housing security, she also gives us permission to be flaulant and boring! Thank you Jane!!
Jane doesn't hold back, she's brilliant!

We have turned 40! (shows, not years)
At Broad Radio, we are celebrating every milestone in 2021, because this time last year we were still just an idea, so every show is a blessing!
The same way, that every day is a blessing in our lives and as Jo Stanley and Shelley Ware discover with a very, very funny chat with the incredible, Judith Lucy.
In this podcast episode, (40 Part A) we talk aging, why milestone birthday's can sometimes be really tough, but they can also be an opportunity to pat yourself on the back and look forward with fresh eyes.
We talk about the fact that as you age your eye sight gets worse but so does your facial hair, which doesn't seem fair, and how Judith got around the bubble buddy issue in lockdown last year in a creative way.
Judith tells us about the things she's learning to do now that she never did as a child or a teenager, (she's on her learners!) and she throws her support behind why Broad Radio exists, to give women over 40 a voice on radio, with warmth, kindness, compassion and feminine energy.

It's the second part of our 40th show as a podcast!
Jo and Shelley chat with Katie Clements, a teacher, who wanted to be the change so ran for local government in Mildura, she only just missed out but it's lit a fire in her belly and plans to tackle a seat in state government. Katie wants everyone to know the reasons why it's less likely women can run for parliament because of a rule in the constitution and what she plans to do about it.
Plus our pal Kerri Sackville reminds us that all the stigma around ageing is just cultural bull$hit and that we don't need to be gorgeous for 50 if we don't want to be! Kerri also shares her obsession with ordering things online so she has a constant stream of packages arriving and a great relationship with the postie.

It's episode 47! We can't believe that we have made so many shows, and met so many people this year, and this ep is no exception. Feminist, author and broadcaster Clementine Ford joins us to talk about her new book How we love, and the experience of writing it and reflecting on the kinds of love that exist and how when we experience them, none is more important that the other.
We then talk with Dr Kathleen McNamee and disover that pap smears are now going to be available to DIY! Which means, that dread and embarrassment of the proceedure is in the bin and more lives will be saved as many women and trans people who might have avoided the traditional trip to the dr for the test can now have access to it. AMAZING!
And with Bianca Chatfield pregnant with her first baby, Jo about to send her baby off to high school and Kerri Sackville's son leaving home, we have a beautiful discussion on the stages of life and how as a parent you can try to navigate them for you and your child's sake!

Did you see the series 'The Newsreader' on the ABC? We loved it, the nostalgia from the 80s and the performances of a cast of amazing aussie actors, so we asked Michelle Lim Davidson who played Nolleen in the show to come and talk to us about it, playing a Korean/ Australian and how she loves a puzzle.
We also find out about the incredible work of journalist Jess Hill who has worked on many horrific stories of families experiencing domestic violence and has documented them in her book and on SBS in the series See what you made me do. She also has a podcast out called the TRAP, Jess tells us what she has learned and what we all need to know about busting the myths of DV and what it's really like for sufferers.
Then, how do you fail fearlessly? Lola Berry knows a thing or two about it after some very public ups and downs in her career and has written a book on the topic to help the rest of us navigate the pitfalls of life! Lola has done the work for us and has plenty for us all to learn from.

Over the years, so many Australian women have benefited from Kaz Cooke's ability to de-mystify pregnancy, childbirth, toddlers and puberty with her books spanning all of these parts of life.
Now she shares what she's found when she went and did a deep dive into the history of what women have been told and why! (spoiler alert, most of it is utter bullsh%t!)
Kaz's new book is called 'You’re Doing It Wrong A History of Bad & Bonkers Advice to Women' and when she chats with Jo and Bianca we find out just some of the absurd things she discovered and why we still have to battle to debunk so much of it.https://kazcooke.com.au/book/youre-doing-it-wrong/

Yes! This episode sounds so sweet with Jo and Bianca BOTH in the new studio, doesn't Broad Radio sound good?
This week was a big talk fest with lots to absorb so we have chopped it into 2 episodes of podcast listening for you. In Episode 44A - listen in to out chat with Mary Spillaine, Psychologist at Headspace, who talks up through the feelings of coming out of lockdown, as many of us on the eastern seaboard struggle with how to get back into life, and we talk about Jo's favourite app and how mindfulness can really help with the feelings of overwhelm and anxiety that many of us have.
And then we have a frank discussion with Julia Fox, National Assistant Secretary, of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association, about the stress and difficulty that many retail staff have had to endure over the pandemic as our vital frontline workers, and how the conditions of their employment often fall short of fairness.
Then, once you have finished, head over to the second part, an eye opening discussion about many things that women have been told over the years that are just flat out wrong, when we chat with author Kaz Cooke about her new book 'You’re Doing It Wrong- A History of Bad & Bonkers Advice to Women'.If you're not across our crowd funding campaign which is running over October and November check it out here and help us to create the Broad Radio app!

This week, Broad Radio has moved to a new studio! It's exciting because it sounds so good, even if we couldn't have the 1st show with Jo in person due to her being in ISO! Oh well, haven't we gotten good at rolling with whatever this year brings?!
Ange Pippos sat in the drivers seat, Jo was at home and we talked with world record holder, and QUEEN OF THE CHANNEL, Chloe McCardle after she completed her 44th crossing a few days ago, what incredible drive and determination, and you'll never guess what she thinks about to keep her swimming through the long hours!
We also chat with Dan Illic, the guy who is behind the Billboards popping up around the world, aimed at shaming our Government to act on climate change, and the host of the award winning podcast 'A rational Fear'. He's raised the money to create this campaign using crowd sourced funds, like.. well we are!
