Years later we still know the characters, still know the lines and still watch it over and over. On this latest episode of The Random Riff we learn more about 911 Dispatching and the amazing people who fill this role. Joining me on tonight's episode is Will "Showtime" Blanton, a 27 year veteran of 911 dispatching who currently serves as a Communications Training Officer and Senior Recruiter for his agency in Florida. On the panel as well is Trina Boskat, an Emergency Dispatcher with the New Braunfels Police Department here in Texas. Together they give great insight into the unique and critically important work done by 911 dispatchers, discussing the challenges and rewards of serving in this role. Also on the show tonight is Licensed Professional Counselor Catherine McConnell who joins in to discuss vicarious trauma and its impact on the amazing people who choose this line of work.

Shady Hawkins, announcer for the Dallas Derby Devils discusses her career in roller derby. From her start with Rage City Rollers in Anchorage, Alaska, to her work as an official and now an announcer, she describes her entry into the sport and the challenges, opportunities and triumphs she has experienced. An avid equestrian, she also discusses her work with horses and even shares a bit of her work with service animals.
Licensed Professional Counselor Catherine McConnell is back on A Few Minutes With to discuss the unique stressors and challenges faced by many during the holiday season. With topics ranging from Anniversary Syndrome, missing family and even suicide prevention, Catherine sheds a ton of light on not only these challenges, but on ways to cope and see your way through them.
