This is not a story of a multi-million-pound business, nor one of over-night success. It’s not another one of those aspirational, “I quit my day job, pursued my passion, and created an empire” anecdotes, but rather the honest, candid tales of a start-up business owner, who is determined to, at one stage, get there. All too often we are presented with stories from those who “made it”, discussing how they got there, in hindsight - but I want you all to come along with me, from the start, while I try to.
The podcast aims to discuss the realities of starting a business - from set-up and planning, to client wins… and losses, to hiring, investment… and everything in between! We want to document our journey, and those of our guests, from different industries, to give insight and advice to those of you who are also aspiring to start-up a business.
Today we are joined by Laura, creator of Little Black Outfit. In this episode, Laura and I discuss the challenges that come with starting a business during early parenthood, facing backlash and the excitement of harnessing influencers to bring a brand to the public eye. We also cover some longer term goals for Little Black Outfit and how the idea was born.
Losing clients is never ideal, but as a business/ agency owner it is something we have to deal with. In this episode I speak about the impact it has had on the overall business and as a result, being faced with the hard decision to let someone go. I also speak about launching our new, exciting talent management division. Listen now to find out more!
Today we were joined by Aimee, from the ever popular RinkyDink Candles. Aimee explains how creating this business actually helped manage her anxiety, and how she went from a job in cyber security to being an online personality selling art and candles! We talk through her vision for the brand, and what is planned to come next!
In this week’s podcast, I talk about how we deal with difficult clients, and how to manage the balance between keeping the client happy, going over and above with working outside of contract, but also knowing when to say no. I also talk about going to see one of my biggest industry inspirations, Steven Bartlett, for Diary of a CEO live - and give my honest review of the show.
In this week’s episode we are joined by Selase, who is actually a ‘founding-father’ of Social Instinct - Qas’ ex partner. We talk about how we started the business, and his exit and the transition from there. The episode then moves on, to discuss his new venture - tech-based business, Menyooze, an app for pre booking beach clubs, restaurants and bars. Selase talks about building a tech company with no tech experience, seeking investment and his future plans for disrupting this field.
Within this episode, I talk about the progress of our NFT client and how that's going. I then talk about the process I took to hire a team, the challenges and uncovering talent.
In this episode, I talk first about the exciting launch of one of our clients’ NFT competition site, and our marketing plan and strategy for this new metaverse niche. In the second part, I discuss my strategy to win and onboard clients, as well as reacting to losing a client, and how this affects me and the team.
In my first episode I give you an insight to who I am, and the business that I am starting-up. I explain this podcast - that it is unique, as it really is a story of a start-up, in its infancy stages, and not a motivational tale of a company that started from nothing, and has now made millions. My aim for this podcast is for you to join me and other start-ups on our journeys, to see if what we set-out to achieve becomes a reality, taking you through the processes and hardships along the way.
