In October 2021 the Domestic Abuse Bill for the first time included children and recognised any child within the dynamics of an abusive relationship or home As VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC ABUSE, and are to be heard and support!
This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. If your child is school age and you have concerns, ask to speak to your schools safeguarding lead and request that your child and you receive support.

Welcome all, thank you for joining us. Today I chat with this beautiful lady Mariann, she’s a true bright spark of a women. She landed in the UK from Hungary 10 years ago and today we celebrate her journey. This young woman speaks of her child trauma that unknowingly impacted her adult intimate relationships; her vulnerabilities made a huge impact on how she valued herself and the way she was treated by men in her relationships. Wanting to change her life and build a career, she threw herself into study and qualified as a hypnotherapist and is currently studying for her doctorate whilst working as a mental health practitioner for the NHS. This lady came from a home, era and community whereas a female you did not speak about what went on in the family home and you certainly did not have aims and ambitions for a career. She is the change in the world that women long for, well done!!!
This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. Hello friends!!!!!! We are four London women discussing this important conversation…. Do we feel safe as women? This whole podcast is supporting the 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM- A global movement in support of ending violence against women and girls. (VAWG). Today we just go for it and the discussion goes to subjects that reflect our fears, frustrations and experiences. How many of us feel unsafe purely because of our sex. What lengths we go to keep ourselves safe and what lengths we go to feel safe. This is a true-life reflection of what women face and feel. Are we safe traveling, partying and working in the London Boroughs? How do we approach our lives as women and how far have we come from previous generations? We speak about our experiences of personal space, up-skirting, reporting to the police and having a voice a younger generation of women in their 20s & 30s. Freedom 2 Talk recognise that there are many women who will be unable to talk freely about these subjects and feel far too unsafe to discuss or report. We send you love and warmth from us all to you. Welcome all our listeners….OMG I have a banger episode for you today it’s a an hour long and even then we didn’t cover it all so undoubtedly will return to this. Yes, it’s the MENOPAUSE!!! I have invited an old, school friend of mine to have an off the record chat about life, living with the menopause. Cheryl was declined HRT because of her serious health conditions, yet her symptoms in menopause sent her completely bananas; we both laugh about it now but it’s actually not funny. It was a no brainer that this is a hot topic that needed to be discussed. We warn you now, we are not DOCTORS even though after listening you may wonder why not lol! I join in with my own experiences with menopause and the dips in my own physical and mental health. I cannot believe this subject is so vast, yet NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS. i thought it was something to look forward to- the end of periods.. hooray!! Davina McCall has been the woman who has put menopause on the map and taken this into our homes by challenging myths, but this only came after i had been perimenopausal and feeling many distressing symptoms. The female population is currently 3.905 billion representing 49.58% of the global population. We hope you enjoy this episode and please share, share, and share to every woman and man you know. So they can start understanding, supporting and talking about it too. Please seek advise from your GP should you need support with menopause and the symptoms. Welcome friends from far and wide! A quick introduction to our enchanting, beautiful Texan lady- She is ‘Unbreakable’, in name and spirit! So, I am browsing the internet and I see a live discussion on Narcissists, I’m intrigued by the subject but also by the hundreds of comments that is streaming through. I listen to the speaker who grabs my attention with her authentic and passionate approach to the subject of abuse and trauma. She manages to educates thousands of women and men across the globe by sharing her wisdom, vulnerabilities and journey of healing from child abuse and adult abuse….. Fast forward a year later and this inspirational, gorgeous soul is sharing her story with us on ‘Freedom 2 Talk’. It is important that we all have a voice, and our stories across all communities are heard. She is the same as every victim who has been touched by violence and she as every other survivor deserves to be heard and supported. Unbreakable, speaks from the heart and in this episode, we hear how, as a child she endured years of growing up in an environment that left her feeling- never good enough and unlovable. This became the blueprint for her future adult relationships and played out in her two toxic abusive marriages to perpetrators. We join her from child to teenager and hear how the impact of child abuse and sexual molestation side lines her future into more abuse. This is a story of pain and trauma but also of her journey into a fully fledged warrior- she is Unbreakable! Wherever you are in the world please seek specialist support, if you are able. Take care and stay safe x

Welcome friends! In this episode we have a frank discussion about how we are individually coming to terms with the chain reaction linking our triggers and our trauma, our minds and our bodies. We unpack our exhausting experiences and connect the dots; we now begin to see and appreciate how our trauma surfaces. Women speak from the heart of how we got to this point and the challenges we face day to day living with trauma. We have been often living in a bubble of feelings that we could not, measure, place, manage or verbalise. The process of healing and recovery is not an easy one, old feelings that were pushed down to protect us, we are now acknowledging them with love and care (when possible). It can be a natural response to shut out all these feelings with drink, drugs, stealing, gambling, sex, aggression, excessive compulsions such as cleaning…the list is truly endless but slowly we learn to recognise we are struggling and start listening to the pain that needs holding. Feeling crazy, weak, stupid is all normal and part of the old internal chatter we have developed. We have all realised it is important when we can, to embrace the loneliness, the hurting, sadness, terror, and anxiety and meet it with kindness, empathy and no judgement. We are the engine that will drive us into new pastures but not before we have pushed through mountainous terrain. If you haven’t started, today can be the day you start to treat yourself like a child who is unwell and needs care and gentleness, the more unwell we feel the more rest and nurturing we give ourselves. For many life is feeling out of our control. As a group we believe that all victims of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence have experienced some form of ill wellbeing due to what they have suffered. The group speak openly about their mental health and feelings of depression and suicide, how coping with the effects of past trauma is often seen as us being weak if we even acknowledge our feelings and don’t push them away. We are rarely given the support by employers, colleagues, friends, and family to give ourselves the time, love, kindness, and a space to feel what we do. We talk about how hard it is to be encouraged to take care of our mental health and the lack of specialist provisions on hand when we need it. If we had a broken back, we would not be left without medical intervention for years and yet we can be victims of violence and expected that we can return to normality like the impact was that of a grazed knee. If we are suffering 20 years plus later we start to be seen as the problem and not the trauma or act of violence that took away our freedom. We are undoubtedly courageous beautiful women who want to open conversations about real life and the challenges we face and how hard it is to get what we need, when we need it. Stay safe people and believe in yourself and your journey. Healing is tough and its painful however we can begin to make healthier choices to make this journey one that is kinder to ourselves. We deserve to be heard, we deserve to be supported and we deserve to be safe and loved. This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. This beautiful Christian African lady Esther gives her account of a man that bursts into her life like a beam of light. However, in this story Esther discusses openly about her attraction to a man that held a position of trust in the community. Family is of great importance to Esther and her commitment to taking her vows to her partner was one of the biggest steps she had taken. Esther speaks of the red flags she was innocent to but now is clear to her, that this man was and still is a dangerous perpetrator. Esther was warned by the future husbands, friend that she was in danger, but Esther was young, impressionable and in love at the time. She ends this discussion by describing her wedding day. Esther had some doubts but she is like many of us who ignore our gut feelings. Our Wedding Day should be one of the happiest times of anyone’s lives. For Esther this day was anything but that, it reflected how her life was to change and the years that she was to loose in an abusive marriage. She has so much more of her story to tell you but this may take a while to revisit as the threat is still real.
After years of being a victim of abuse along with her children, Esther is now remarried to a good loving partner. They share a loving, supportive relationship full of children, happiness, and laughter.
This Episode is dedicated to Esther’s loving Father that has now passed away. He was a key figure in Africa for rights of women and children, upholding the law so we can all can be safe in our communities. God Bless him xx

Welcome all….We slipped this short episode in as both Amy and her mum felt they wanted to tell you how horrifying this whole ordeal has been in their life. It is a fact that most survivors of abuse will find it very difficult to relay how absolutely terrifying fleeing a perpetrator can be and when people say ‘just leave’, it is not that simple. Disclosing and being open about abuse can often feel a step to far. Reporting to the Police is often not an option until it is out of our hands. However there are specialists that will listen, believe and protect. It can be hard for a victim to believe anyone can help them. This was extremely difficult for Amy to put into words exactly what it was like for her fleeing from an abusive boyfriend, with her baby fearing she would be killed. This takes great courage to verbalise the memories she holds of her trauma. We hope that other victims will hear Amy and spot the signs, enabling them to also get to safety one day. The hope is that others will recognise signs in people and take time to connect. Amy’s perpetrator is now behind bars and she is safe, AMY MADE IT!!! This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. If your child is school age and you have concerns, ask to speak to your schools safeguarding lead and request that your child and you receive support for Domestic Abuse. A clear message to us all, there is hope. Today Amy and her mum reflect on how their bond was key to Amy’s survival. They both speak frankly about the ongoing abuse from Amy’s boyfriend and how it felt for them both, Amy being the victim and mum being a spectator. Amy relays memories of being in a state of confusion and anxiety and constantly leaving the relationship but then returning to the perpetrator. Amy also describes the common tactics perpetrators use at the point of leaving, which goes from love bombing- holidays, money etc. and how quickly the fantasy fades and reality hits that there is no escaping his abuse. There is no happy ever after. In this recording Jo talks about the resilience required to keep the door open for your loved ones when they are in abusive relationships. She explains how at many points she was tested to the limit and came very close to walking away and letting Amy get on with it but she didn’t leave her daughters side. They both can see how this could have ended if Amy had no place to turn. We get a clear picture of how important it is to keep the door open for a victim of abuse as one day it may be the difference between life and DEATH, literally This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. This is a rare opportunity to hear domestic abuse from the perspective of the parent of a victim. Jo is Amy’s mum and gives her frank account of the story from her side. The watching, waiting, supporting and being witness to her child being slowly downtrodden by a charming young man she had trusted and welcomed into her home. We hear how it also took all the family’s energy to keep a door always open for Amy even when it may have seemed pointless. To sit with feeling helpless takes great strength and this maybe where Amy found her courage to keep going. This episode is full of ups and downs and uncertainty, but we learn the importance of never giving up on a victim of abuse, whether it is your friend, colleague, or family. Jo talks about the realist aspect of reporting abuse to Police how hard that decision can be, especially when there are no other options. Trauma has touched the whole family, but love has also kept this family together. My total respect for all those who support a victim/ survivor of abuse, often never seeing an acknowledgement or outcome. Please remember you may be the only person keeping the light on for them, when one day they need get out of the dark. Welcome and thank you for returning. Amy continues her story, and we get to join her on her journey, losing herself in a controlling abusive relationship. She describes the continued physical, psychological abuse and the toll it began to take on her mental wellbeing. The assault to the brain is what she describes within this toxic relationship that sways from love bombing to full blown verbal and physical attacks. Amy describes how she realised after joining a womens programme that sexual abuse was also part of her story and consent was not part of the relationship. She goes from being a carefree, independent, fun loving young women to a stressed, anxious, isolated, dependent woman where addiction to prescription drugs and cannabis is the only way to numb everything out. The car, home and great gestures of love in the form of lavish gifts ended up as debts in her name. The story which starts as a fairy tale has turned full circle. The only person Amy has to turn to for support is her mum- Jo! This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. If your child is school age and you have concerns, ask to speak to your schools safeguarding lead and request that your child and you receive support for Domestic Abuse. Welcome friends We start this episode by introducing Amy. She was in her early twenties when she met her ‘Mr Right’ that turned out to be everything but that. Amy is 10 years on and is still recovering from the damage caused by her abusive ex. She speaks candidly about how after meeting a caring, handsome, confident, hardworking partner, he quickly develops into something that engulfed her whole life and turned into a nightmare. She gives an account of how isolation, love bombing, gaslighting and coercion control is built into her relationship very swiftly and gives us all some insight around how control and manipulation can infiltrate what seemed a ‘normal relationship’. Episodes 7- 11 are all part of Amy’s story, and we welcome her with open arms as she has survived. This will be upsetting for some, but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. Today we talk openly about our experiences of abuse within our own families and communities, what messages did we learn about control and abuse. We know there is good and bad in society however many of the group felt their abuse was excepted and was inherently passed down to us. This discussion is the harsh reality of us women living in 2022 in London’s diverse communities. Are women’s voices really being heard? Has women’s roles really changed in society, are we really being heard when Domestic Abuse is named or are communities still living in denial and in shaming us? Asian, British, African, Jamaican, Irish, Romany, Indian, Turkish, Afghan, Italian, European….. Globally. We need to speak openly and stop saying, ‘We don’t have a problem’ . Yes, we do!!! Its called Violence Against Women- Misogyny

This week we ask the question 'does Domestic Abuse effect our children? Yes of course it does and in many more ways than we hear about. This discussion hurt all our hearts as we speak about how abuse in the home deeply impacts our children. How we have witnessed our precious children develop mental health, self-destruct and deeply intrenched survival techniques after the aftermath of being exposed to an abusive parent or family member. We name this because finally we can. We want everyone to open their ears and hear what our children go through, their struggles and how they try and communicate their trauma. We want family courts, services and schools to hear us. Many of children's needs are dismissed and minimized often going unnoticed. Blaming terrible two's, rebellious teens etc. No stop right there..........they are suffering trauma just as any other victim of abuse however rather than speak they act out. Children’s needs are not recognised enough, and some services are failing dreadfully. This will be upsetting for some but it highlights the need for a trauma informed empathic approach to be used by all. If your child is school age and you have concerns ask to speak to your schools safeguarding lead and request that your child and yourself receive support.
