You may not know that I grew up a punk rock kid in the late 80’s but that’s a fact. My hair transitioned through lots of colors, my Doc Martens were original and my weekends full of hardcore shows at small venues near and far.
What I learned in those formative years, as part of that scene, shaped much of my core identity and values that live through me still.
Today’s guest similarly came of age in mosh pits along the eastern seaboard from Washington D.C to Boston, taking the pole position for women and becoming a matriarch within the fan culture.
Author, award winning teacher and punk rock maven Nancy Barile grew up promoting all ages hard core shows in Philly on Sunday afternoons before it was a thing…she’s actually why it’s a thing so you can thank her directly for that.
Having spent the past 28 years teaching English Language Arts to public school children outside of Boston, Nancy is here to share with you the most important life lessons the world of punk taught her and teach you how you can apply them to your own life-even if the music isn’t for you ;)
Her book “’I’m Not Holding Your Coat: My Bruises and All Memoirs of Punk Rock Rebellion” chronicles her experience as a woman at the leading edge of a musical and social movement full of (young)men.

Do you ever long to feel more deeply connected to other women, to feel seen, heard and understood?
Each month Rachel Leveillee and I co host a handful of local Women’s Circles. Today she joins me to talk about what circling is, what you can expect at a circle and what you will get out of being there.
We offer this ancient practice of sharing, community building and healing in a modern way so it feels accessible to all and relevant for the challenges of our times.
Beyond being a masterful restorative yoga teacher and facilitating circles, Rachel practices the yoga of motherhood, the yoga of partnership and the yoga of existing in a wild world.
She doesn’t always find her way to a mat and a class, but she does deep-breathing at red lights, pursues discomfort by cold plunging, flexes her presence muscles by paying attention to every delicious bite, and seeks balance and connection moment-to-moment.
Join us as we discuss why we love circles, wouldn't want to live without them and know you will too. Hear…

After leaving a stressful job for a year-long adventure in New Zealand, she began seeking a stronger body and calmer mind through a practice of yoga and meditation. Often practicing outside, the connection to nature was freeing and inspiring. With this connection came newfound space in her life, with room for more peace, compassion, and joy.
Along with being a masterful restorative yoga teacher, circle facilitator and coach Rachel practices the yoga of motherhood, partnership and life. She seeks balance and connection moment-to-moment.
Through her work Rachel provides opportunities for people to feel seen and heard. She creates containers to experience connection, vibrancy, presence and rest. She compassionately welcomes people just as they are and offers inquiries to help people get clear about how they want their lives to feel. Most frequently this happens through individual coaching and group circles.

“Conventional medicine doesn’t stand a chance of turning the tide against chronic disease”.
When Chris Kresser got sick on a surfing trip to Indonesia he never expected it to catapult him into becoming a leader in the Functional Medicine space but after a decade-long struggle with what became a chronic illness, he learned first hand where health care succeeded—and where it came up short.
After seeking the help of more than 30 healthcare practitioners and, ultimately, having to learn and implement behavioral change on his own with limited support, Chris emerged with his health—and a vision and drive for changing and improving the practice and education of his field.
A renowned expert, leading clinician, and top educator in the fields of Functional Medicine and Ancestral Health, Chris has treated thousands of patients with chronic health challenges over the last 15 years. Author of the New York Times-bestselling book “The Paleo Cure”; his latest book is Unconventional Medicine.
In this week‘s episode, he shares candidly his own story and experience and how that served as the crucible for the evolution of his approach, from a dedicated root-cause Functional Medicine practitioner to an explorer of what it means to thrive and flourish in the modern world.
Over time, he developed his Adapt Framework, a collaborative model of care, to offer you what he calls “counterpoints” to help you navigate or avoid these pitfalls.
Learn how to identify and work with limiting beliefs and ideas, like “health is simply the absence of symptoms or disease” or “that we, as individuals, are in full control of our health and well-being” or that “the ONLY way to improve health is to address the root-cause”

What if getting into right relationship with yourself is about seeing yourself as a sum of many parts instead of living the illusion you are a single you moving through the world?
If you have ever wanted opposing things at the same time, you have bumped into your parts. The do-er and the be-er, the giver and the taker, the courageous and the brave and so many more.
Sometimes you want to take a nap AND be super productive. You want to live in the city AND the country. You want to be a business mogul AND live the carefree life of a vagabond.
Perhaps you’ve felt the paradox of emotions and have been happy and sad simultaneously.
At times you feel like the adult you are and then also like you are still the 12 and 19 and 5 year old child you once were. Don’t believe me. Get around your family. Notice what age/s you quickly morph into. These are your parts.
Fortunately you are bigger than your parts. You are large enough to hold all of your polarities.
Parts work coach Jordin James is here to explain what our parts are, how they operate and how we can work with them daily as a practice of self love and redemption. She invites us to expand ourselves to make room for, listen to and love our parts the way they always wanted to be.

Did you know that spending time with trees has been shown to reduce stress and blood sugar levels, boost immunity and cognitive ability? That’s just the beginning.
Friend and author Cheryl Rickman tells us all about the nature and generosity of trees in her new book “Tree Glee”. Given my obsession with trees, I had to have her on the show to go deep about how insanely amazing and important they are and why that’s as much scientific fact as it is cultural myth, wonder and woo.
Cheryl is a proud tree-hugger and advocate for the power of nature as a healer and energy giver. She is also a Sunday Times best-selling author of 13 books, ghostwriter of another 13 and a qualified positive psychology practitioner.
We talk about why trees have this impact on the earth and us that they do. What specifically can we learn from trees about authenticity, altruism, resilience and collaboration?
How does our ancestral memory play a role in the reason why trees are so comforting and calming?
How do our senses of sight, smell, hearing and touch come in to it?

Jerry Colonna is a sought after coach, author, CEO and cofounder of Reboot.io, an executive coaching and leadership development firm dedicated to the notion that better humans make better leaders. More importantly, he is a wise elder in a world where we need them more than ever.
His earlier book Reboot: Leadership and the Art of Growing Up stayed on my nightstand long after I read it as a reference for how to stay more human. It is a must read for anyone intending on being an adult.
In this week’s episode we explore the power of presence and the opportunities for deeper connection and healing with one another.
We talk about the sacred power of “witchy women”, the places our stories and beliefs keep us stuck and then he turns the tables on me for some 1:1 coaching.
Our conversation wanders and weaves from Jerry’s hailed success as a venture capitalist to his own experience of depression and suicidality. From the hard won wisdom he culled from decades in both therapy and on the meditation cushion, to the role Buddhism has played in his life.
We discuss teachers who have sustained him like friend Parker Palmer and Pema Chodron and the programs he now teaches that combine practical skills, radical inquiry, mindfulness and conscious leadership.
Prior to his career as a coach, Jerry was a partner with J.P. Morgan Partners (JPMP), the private equity arm of J.P. Morgan Chase. You get a front row seat to a pivotal moment for them when everything changed or came together or they took that first step towards the rest of their life.
If you stick around long enough you may even get to see where they were led.
This week’s guest was 16 years old in 1997 when we met at the Wilderness Awareness School (WAS) in Redmond, Washington. I was 23.
Doniga Markegard is a wildlife tracker, regenerative rancher, speaker, and author of Dawn Again: Tracking the Wisdom of the Wild and Wolf Girl: Finding Myself in the Wild.
Her teen years in nature school started her on a path that led to a career in animal tracking and then permaculture and ranching in at her farm in California, Markegard Family Grass-Fed, where she works to regenerate both soil and community through farming. Using the innovative, carbon-storing methods of regenerative ranching, she’s restoring the land she tends, bringing native grasses and wildlife back.

We all want a better relationship with our stuff.. and ourselves… but how do we actually go about creating that?
Pop culture tells us to become minimalists and purge most of what we own. Instagram therapists say setting better boundaries, improving self care and staying on top of our mindset will do the trick; but what really works?
This week’s guest, Storyteller and Space Holder, Paul Sockett offers a fresh perspective on how we can consider and work with that which bogs us down inside of our hearts and homes.
Having spent the better part of his career as an actor, Paul understands the power of the roles we play and the stories we tell ourselves. Living nomadically for many years taught him firsthand the impact that carrying around a lot of stuff can have on our lived experience.
Listen as he shares an inspiring new lens on how to navigate the intersection of our personal narratives, the stuff we possess and the ease we all want to feel.
Learn how to realign with your story and your stuff, by lowering the stakes so you can feel aligned with who you are and what you own so it doesn’t own you. Consider the revolutionary idea of stepping outside of our dichotomous society to make conscious choices about what is right for you.

MORE ABOUT PAUL SOCKETT:
Paul hates labels but at the moment, Paul resonates most strongly with the descriptor Storyteller (for the breadth of choice, service and play that shapes him). He is a lover of words, the Earth and a pun (the cheesier the better). He is what people refer to as a multipotentialite and multi-hyphenate, though the threads connecting all his curiosities are story & bold expression. This means there are multiple ways in which Paul can be of service (coach/performer/voice artist/dramaturg/space-holder & poet to name a few). He helps curious beings realign with their Story and their Stuff, inviting the lowering of the stakes and the revolution that is stepping outside our dichotomous society to make conscious choices. Today we celebrate our 50th episode. Woot woot!! To those of you who have been here all along, and to those of you just tuning in thank you! This podcast is for you and I so appreciate you being here.
Next week I’ve got another guest interview for you to enjoy but today I wanted to explore mindfulness with you from another, less obvious perspective.
Even on the best of days, living mindfully can feel challenging. Being in the moment requires our focused attention and a fair amount of energy. So what about when the seas get rough? How can we stay present during life’s more difficult moments, days or chapters?
The past month has been a real doozy for folks. 6 planets have been in retrograde and whether that’s as impactful as the astrologists say or not; for many it has felt like all hell has broken loose. I know this because it’s what my clients, colleagues and friends are sharing with me.
Whether your rough patch is a minor inconvenience or a lifelong obstacle, this episode is here to keep you company, normalize the disruption and offer you some ways to be present for it all.

When I ran to the local Walmart a couple months ago for an early morning errand, I never expected it to lead to a social experiment in generosity and taking the pulse of what’s really happening in the minds, hearts and spirits of a lot of women right now.
25 or so conversations later with ladies 17 to 82, from diverse backgrounds and across the globe; I felt compelled to do my first solo podcast to bring you into the conversation.
It can be really helpful to know the truths, challenges and desires that other women are wrestling with day to day and to be inspired by what they are championing and creating.
With loneliness, anxiety and burnout now epidemics here in the U.S it feels important to offer the reminder that whether you are riding the struggle bus or about to soar; you are not alone.
In this episode, you will come behind the curtain and hear what I discovered after a round of free one hour coaching calls to 15 women along with my own clients.
Learn which repeated and relatable themes emerged and hear how you can work with it all to create your next chapter in a way that feels aligned, ease filled and connected.

Bask in each sun filled word of the divine wisdom well and soul of luminary, Hiro Boga.
You will not be the same after you listen to her. If you listen long enough, your transformation is inevitable. Read her. Take her programs. Be in her orbit.
“Make a bonfire of your identities.”
“Trust the gifts of resistance: Divine timing; right relationship with yourself, your soul, your rambling creativity.”
“Good business understands, in a very pragmatic way, that we are the green branches and breathing leaves of the world tree. “
We need trusted elders to lead us forward and set us straight when we veer from our values. Seers who have gazed upon life from other viewpoints and can show us the way. Those who have found refuge in their own truth and soul and will keep us true.
Hiro Boga does this. She generously offers counsel to the world; as a business artist, mentor and soul alchemist through her writing, self study programs and poetry.

Meet Corwin! This adorable character's name means "heart's friend". Corwin is a true love, spreading joy and support through special, hand-drawn greeting cards.
Corwin came to life in January 2020 from a needed nudge reminding the illustrator to utilize her inner talent and go for it. The result of this encouragement led to the creation of these adorable hand-drawn greeting cards.
This story serves as a reminder of how important it is to have people in our lives that believe in us, to follow your heart and take the chance at doing something positive and joyful.
It also highlights the notion of friendship and connection to others. You have to be a friend to get a friend. In this fast-paced life we are living, it is easy to forget those people we hold most dear to our hearts. A simple card can provide that necessary reminder that all humans need to know—they are loved, they are important and they are thought of. Sharing yourself with others creates a return effect—like a boomerang... it comes back. Corwin cards have a “give love, get love” mentality… Using this approach to life can create a positive planet.
Why cards? Chris believes that greeting cards are the last token exchange between two people. We don’t write letters anymore, text messages are often deleted, emails lost... so this is our last shared appreciation for someone in our life. She thought it was important to keep the cards blank because she believes that the words of the sender/giver are most important. Even if it’s as simple as “I love you”... to know that you were thought of is a beautiful thing. And the fact that this character, Corwin, is conjuring up such joy is equally delightful.

What happens when you join a 5 month online program and end up getting much more than you bargained for?
Paradox happens. In 2020 I ended up reconnected with the inner sense of leadership I was after, friends for life AND also another tiresome experience of toxic male misuse of power and manipulation termed “transformational leadership”.
This week’s conversation is a two-fer. It’s a guide on how to make friends at middle age and the tale of how 4 strangers from across the pond, not only became friends but people who talked to each other every day for over a year and counting.
Listen as 3 of my closest new-ish friends from this program and I discuss our bizarre friendship origin story, how it’s evolved and what we learned that can help you in your path of friendship.
Hear our honest experiences navigating the landscape of adult friendships. You will feel so at home here with us. If you are lonelier than you wish were true, wish you had other types of friends in your roster or just want to have a good laugh, this is for you.

Have you ever met someone truly unforgettable? The kind of person who lights up the world in the most magical, mystical, beautiful way.
Their childlike wonder and great success makes you wonder if you missed the memo about another kind of life available or at least another way to do it than your current approach. You just want to soak them in and linger in their presence as long as possible.
Get ready to spend an hour with one such light. One of my own personal mentors, spiritual teachers and favorite humans; world renowned artist and local legend Anne “Mimi” Sammis.
Mimi began her career in landscape painting and then expanded her artistic vision to include bronze sculptures full of energy and movement. Each one reveals a celebration of life.
As her artistic career advanced, so too did her spiritual life. The reverse is actually a truer statement. Mimi credits her resounding inner peace and joy to her 20+ year morning mindfulness practice reciting the “Peace Prayer of St Francis of Assisi”.
Listen as we deep dive into her daily practices you can easily adopt. Hear how her desire to create a Tsunami of Love in the world has created endless miracles and find out why gathering weekly with other creatives (for over 20 years) was a non-negotiable she believes every artist would benefit from.
Mimi’s’ work is well known and collected throughout the world. Something she also credits to her meditation practice. Her sculpture He Has The Whole World In His Hands was commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury for Queen Elizabeth in honor of her Golden Jubilee in 2002 and is on permanent display at Lambeth Palace in London, England. Some of her exhibitions include the United Nations, The Hague, the Arles Museum and the American Embassy in Paris.
This week’s conversation will very much leave you with the “I’ll have what she’s having” experience. Can”t wait for you to listen.

PEACE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
When professional sailor Onne van der Wal and his teammates circumnavigated the world aboard the Dutch boat FLYER during the 1981-82 “Whitbread Around the World Race”, he never expected it to be the launch of an epic 30+ year career as a professional marine photographer.
His sparse racing gear allowance didn’t leave much room for his novice camera kit that the camera company had given to him to document his teams amazing voyage so he had to talk his way into getting it on board.
Listen to him tell about how after winning the race, his unique and impressive photos from his extraordinary race were sought after. Sailing and adventure magazines flocked to van der Wal to gain access to his images and the rest is history; He hung up his sea boots and took to a life and career photographing the yachting world rather than competing in it.
Onne, a native Dutchman raised in Cape Town, South Africa, is an award winning nautical photographer and icon in the photography world. He is a Canon Explorer of Light; a prestigious invitation-only group of 35 pro shooters from around the globe.
He has produced and shot commercial ads and stories for some of the biggest players in the sailing, power boat and shipping industry worldwide. If you’ve seen a photo of a boat, chances are you’ve seen Onne’s work. Seriously.
We’ve known each other as long time colleagues here in Newport, Rhode Island, where he and his wife also run a successful gallery of his fine art work. Listen as we sit down to talk about his extraordinary life of sailing, seeing, shooting and epic adventures on the high seas.

Even though awareness is improving, suicide is still taboo.
Having lived with suicidal ideation since I was twelve and lost my best friend to it at 19; I know first hand how painful and unpopular the conversation is. I also know there is an important dark side to wholeness that is as powerful, as beautiful and as human as the light is.
According to the latest published statistics on suicide from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US. In 2020, 45,979 Americans died by suicide and an estimated 1.20M suicides were attempted.
As a fierce advocate for more open and honest dialogue about suicide, while people are alive, I am amplifying the conversation. It’s uncomfortable and feels vulnerable yet this is what saves lives. So we will begin here.
Dr. David Stern, one of my personal wisdom keepers as well as a clinical psychologist, trainer, healer and consultant joins me to kick off the first episode in this new “Suicide Series”. His practice is deeply informed by the perennial wisdom of the world’s wisdom traditions as well as current behavioral and brain research.
A certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist, he offers us a map to identify and work with various parts of ourselves that form a constellation of sorts, like a family…only on the inside. It’s a way of almost separating yourself out to better see who you are, what is getting in the way and knowing what you need.
Listen in as we talk about the value of difficult times. Learn that there can also be many gifts to receive in grief, depression or existential crisis and find out what we really need in the dark.

No matter where you live on the spectrum of wealth from have to have not, the majority of us could improve our relationship to money.
Whether you are striving to create a mindset of abundance, build your wealth, dig out of debt or are considering how to be a better custodian of your resources and make a greater impact, a healthy relationship to your money is necessary.
This week's guest has walked her talk. Lisa Peterson’s life, both personally and professionally, has been the proving ground for so much of what she preaches. She and her husband have been financially free for over a decade and she is a passionate advocate for financial well being.
Working 25 years in the finance world, from mortgage banker to business development executive to treasured financial advisor, her financial literacy and reputation are firmly anchored.
Simultaneously she was also exploring a parallel spiritual path that led her to practice and teach mindfulness and meditation. Feeling like she was living separate lives she knew she had to find a way to bring them together to feel whole.
Eventually she allowed herself to merge her two loves: money and mindfulness and now helps people create more abundance and integrate their lives.
She’s here this week to help us create more peace and joy around our prosperity.
In this episode, you’ll learn the framework to help you heal your limited mindsets around scarcity to shift them into abundance that she shares in her book “ The Mindful Millionaire: Overcome Scarcity, Experience True Prosperity, and Create the Life You Really Want.
Hear inspirational stories and get practical tools and “how to’s” to increase your self-worth and rebuild the confidence you need to build your own holistic wealth. Combining ancient Indian principles from the energetic chakra system and mindfulness with non nonsense practical financial steps you can take, Leisa’s framework is truly revolutionary.

Have you ever known someone at a distance but recognize that you’re really living somewhat parallel yet different lives with a lot of intersecting places to them? Well this is one of those conversations…almost 30 years in the making.
As a punk rock teenager, this week's guest preached anthems from the stage about positive thinking and a clean straight edge lifestyle. Ragunath Kappo, Ray as he was called in 1985 was the lead singer of the Connecticut based punk hard-core band Youth of Today; which quickly became one of the most well-known bands in the New York hardcore scene.
Growing up in nearby Rhode Island I used to see them play live at our local clubs often.. His music was a real rebel cry. An invitation to consider the limitations of both an unjust system and those of my one mind. A call to consider my thoughts, to have an opinion and to stand for something. It was an incredible window of time in my life. 30 years later Raghunath is still playing a role in my life..
Listen in as we talk about his evolution from punk rock all star to monk-true story- to the Bhakti yoga teacher of teachers and father of 5 that he is today. He owns and runs a yoga retreat center called Supersoul Farm in the Hudson River Valley of New York and is the co-host of the Wisdom of the Sages podcast where shares truths about life from the timeless wisdom of the Bhakti-yoga tradition.
Ragunath teaches how to create more love and connection in your life through service as his tradition of Bhakti Yoga taught him. Bhakti is the beautiful and natural practice of taking the ego-self out of the center and placing the divine at the center.

MORE ABOUT JUDITH BRAUN:
Judith Braun was born in 1947, in Albany, NY. She did her undergrad at Fashion Institute of Technology, in NYC, and then received her MA and MFA from the University at Albany in 1983.
Her goal was to show her art work in NYC within 5 years, and according to her plan she did that in 1988, with the popular collaborative, Group Material.
After she moved to New York City more shows followed, including the notorious Bad Girls show at the New Museum of Contemporary Art. Then in 1995 Braun took a hiatus from the artworld to handle personal and financial matters.
In 2003 she decided to try returning to her art career, with a 3 year plan this time, and she succeeded. Since 2004 her work has been widely exhibited throughout the US and abroad.
Her current solo show, My Pleasure, at Opalka Gallery, in Albany, NY, is on view through April 23, and has been reviewed in the Brooklyn Rail and Schenectady Gazette, along with several radio interviews.
In May, she will participate in 11 Women of Spirit, at Zürcher Gallery, in NYC. Braun is a recipient of artists’ grants from the Pollock Krasner Foundation and the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation among others.
When Amy Wilson started dancing in a local park to shake off the energetic dust during the pandemic, she never imagined it would lead to a powerful new relationship with trees, me and women the world over.
In this week‘s episode, we veer from the usual interview and instead welcome you into the conversation she and I have been having together, behind the scenes.
Amy and I met a couple years back in an online artist community. A multidisciplinary designer and artist, she creates for determined dreamers and makes art for the brave and breathing. Acorn is her creative studio.
For months now, we have met weekly to talk about the metaphysical, mystical and spiritual ideas we are exploring in our lives.
We quickly realized that we both have a meaningful daily practice involving trees.
Which led us to portals, and then to constructing tree portals, sharing the lessons we were learning with one another, weaving our rituals together from a distance and including women all over the world to do the same.
Listen as we trace the origin story of how our tree portals came to be, how they are being constructed now all over the world…seriously! Learn how they can improve your confidence and sense of purpose and how they are transforming not only our lives but those of people everywhere.
Amy is pure joy! You’ll love her light hearted, witty, smart, honest and fun presence. Her slogan for her biz says it all, “at Acorn, we strive to be imaginative, curious, authentic, and kind”.

Romanian Artist, designer and musician Mihai (Mike) Bancila never expected to put down his paintbrush for a few weeks to help neighboring Ukrainian refugees find shelter, anywhere they could, in his hometown but that’s exactly what happened.
In this week‘s episode, he shares his frustration with the war, his love of art and how punk rock is giving his life some context.
We talk about the choice to be an artist and what it means to follow faithfully wherever that path takes you. How closing our studios and losing everything in 2020 taught us about creative courage and who we really are.

This week‘s episode should be required listening for every adult over the age of 30. I know it’s just my opinion, but most of us seem to lose our capacity to play the older we get.
My guest, Jeff Harry is here to revolutionize that and explain how the research shows that play is in fact, NOT a just novel idea, not mere silliness; rather it’s in fact, seriously important that we reclaim play in our lives.
We dig deep about why we stop playing and how we can navigate the inner critics that come out when we want to play or even when we don’t wanna play and instead are doing the taxes or looking in the mirror.
Learn how to name your inner critics, acknowledge and make peace with them.
We talk about why asking “What do you want?” is both the simplest and hardest question to answer and how consumerism really drives our American ethos of ‘not enoughness’.
This one is so much fun! Jeff is inspiring, uplifting, super funny and really knows the science that supports it all.
It’s time to re-orient ourselves as the playful creative beings we are.

A GIFT FROM MARTHA TO LISTENERS
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDKu-rFTDCdsyTffFIkQJfg
Link to my youtube channel, that contains a series of documentaries on the "Salsa: History in Motion" course that I developed at the University of Akron in the fall of 2019, along with Lenin Guerrero Maldonado, Director of Salcity of Angels Dance Company and Juan Contreras, Video Production instructor at the University of Akron. The course was an experiential, inter-disciplinary class that incorporated dance and history in the teaching and learning of the history of salsa in the Caribbean and New York City.
The documentaries, made by University of Akron students who took a "Video Production" course taught in conjunction with the Salsa History class, narrate the experience of dancing in a history class, and of incorporating mind and body in a history college classroom, for both students and instructors.

This episode was recorded LIVE,together in real life, back in October in Sedona Arizona. I was on a month-long camper van experiment out West but that’s a story for a different day.
This week’s guest, Erin Sharaf, is both a scientist and a mystic. A former primary care provider and university professor who became a mindfulness expert and shaman.
Erin now helps cultivate healing for people and the planet through enhancing the connection between mind-body-spirit and nature. Her work draws on both traditions of modern science and ancient wisdom.
We met up for a hike amongst Sedona’s red rocks, then sat down to talk about how her own mindfulness journey from a new student, a few decades ago, led her to become a fierce advocate for the planet.
“I sit so we all can rise”. Let that sink in. Magic.
What do we do with all that we become aware of when we get still, meditate and can see clearly once the dust of our minds settle?
Do we have a responsibility to do anything about that which we see?
For Erin, this is where her passion for social justice, peace and kindness came alive.
Mindfulness Teacher Plant Powered Creatrix | Peaceful warrior | Health enthusiast | Shamanic Practitioner lover of life.
An internationally certified mindfulness instructor, she has been creating transformative workshops for over a decade. Featured on NPR, in Mindful magazine and at conferences like SXSW, her greatest joy is getting to share transformative, heart-opening practices with others in the hopes that people will expand their circle of compassion to include all living beings.
A free spirit, she splits her time between MA, Sedona and Hatteras Island. You can often find her gazing at the night sky, wandering slowly through the woods or dancing up a storm.

Turns out by only choosing to surround yourself with what you love is a great place to start.
