In this quick episode, I'm exploring why you should focus on writing blog posts for your readers instead of just for Google or Pinterest. Here’s why this shift is so important:

https://creativesonfirepodcast.com/episode167

Connect with Your Ideal Reader:

  • Writing for your readers builds loyalty and engagement.
  • Focus on their challenges, interests, and questions to make your content valuable.
  • Loyal readers are more likely to share your posts, driving organic growth.

Try a Balanced Approach:

  • If you publish often, experiment with different types of posts: one for Google, one for Pinterest, and one for your ideal reader.
  • See what performs best and adjust your strategy based on what resonates.

Use a Conversational Tone:

  • Start posts like you’re writing an email to a friend, making your content feel more personal.
  • Share stories and experiences to build a deeper connection with your audience.

Why It Works:

  • Writing for real people creates better engagement, which helps improve your SEO over time too!

This week, we’re talking about a topic that often gets overlooked but is crucial for your blog’s success—the Sidebar. But before we jump into optimizing that little widget on the right-hand side of your blog, let’s talk briefly about some big news in the digital world. Google recently lost a significant lawsuit declaring them to be a monopoly, which could bring about major changes in the online landscape over the next few years.

While the exact impact on our blog traffic remains to be seen, this shakeup could create new opportunities for other search engines like Search GPT, Bing, and DuckDuckGo to gain traction. This could mean more eyeballs on your posts and more chances to be discovered.

Why Your Sidebar Matters More Than You Think Now, let’s shift our focus to something more within our control—your blog’s Sidebar. If you’re like me, you might not have paid much attention to it since you first installed your latest theme.

However, the Sidebar is a critical part of your blog’s user experience and can greatly impact your site’s performance.

I used to have an author box, an email opt-in, and even my Pinterest feed over there, thinking it was a good way to engage readers. But after learning from experts like Brandon Gailey from the Blogging Millionaire Podcast, I realized I was making some big mistakes.

The Sidebar should be optimized for performance and conversions. First, make sure your Sidebar is on the right-hand side of your blog—this is crucial for user navigation and site speed.

Avoid cluttering it with social media plugins that slow down your page. Instead, focus on your lowest hanging fruit: your email opt-in or freebie offer, followed by a widget displaying your latest 10 to 15 posts.

This setup not only improves user engagement but also helps with internal linking, which can boost your Google rankings.

Key Takeaways for a Clean and Effective Sidebar To sum it up, your Sidebar should be clean, concise, and strategically designed to promote your content and products.

Start with your most important opt-ins at the top, followed by recent posts, and finish with higher-ticket items like courses or memberships.

If you don’t have your own products yet, consider placing affiliate links—but remember to keep images minimal and optimized to avoid slowing down your site.

A well-optimized Sidebar can make a huge difference in how visitors interact with your blog and how search engines rank your site.

I hope these tips help you rethink and revamp your Sidebar. It’s a small part of your blog, but when done right, it can have a big impact.

This week, I want to tackle the word courage. So a lot of you might be under the impression that the word courage is a noun. In fact, in the dictionary, it is described as the ability to do something that frightens us or strength in the face of pain or grief.

I want to challenge us to say that courage is actually an adverb. It's not something that you're born with. It's not something that just comes naturally to some and is not attainable for others.

My guest today, Heidi Easley, has a true zest for life and adventure! She believes not just in existing, but in living life wide awake. In this episode, she shares with me how she started her now million dollar business, Texas Art & Soul. Heidi talks about how she found the courage to go into business for herself and getting over her fear of failure. We also discuss how she learned to be consistent with her marketing, seeking out opportunities that will generate income, and making focused decisions that are in line with your personal and business goals.

Heidi has an amazing and inspiring story. About ten years ago after her husband lost his job, Heidi and her family fell on some rough times in Florida. To supplement the family's income, Heidi started hand-painting surfboards and selling them for a profit. Moving back to Texas where surfboards weren't in demand, Heidi pivoted to teaching at paint parties. She was so successful at building up this side business that she took the next logical step: opening her own business teaching paint party teachers. By chasing her passion, Heidi is now running a lucrative business and helping other people to find their own hope and success.

  • How Heidi transitioned from her regular day job to her side-hustle full time.
