This Sunday we finally finish the book of John. Jesus is walking with Peter after their breakfast together. Jesus has just revealed to Peter what his future will look like and Peter looks over his shoulder and asks about John's future. Jesus responds with a rebuke, "what is that to you? You follow me!”

After the miraculous catch, initiated by Jesus, the disciples head to shore where Jesus has breakfast prepared. In the ensuing conversation are some of Jesus' final words to his disciples before he ascends to the Father.

It is Sunday, a week after Jesus rose from the grave. Jesus appeared to the 10 (minus Judas and Thomas) last on Easter evening, he proved that it was really him by showing his hands and his side, and then he commissions them to go and share the good news. Why isn't this enough to rid the disciples of their fear and to go out and share the gospel? This week we see the disciples are still in hiding (in a locked room). Where is their faith in Jesus?

It is still Resurrection Sunday and the disciples are hiding in a locked room. Jesus appears and instead of scolding them, he assures them that he's risen just like he said he would. Jesus meets the disciples where they're at, in fear and then he calls them to greater things.

This week we look at Jesus' time with Pilate. The Jewish leaders have decided to have Jesus put to death but legally they need Pilate to enact the punishment. The back and forth between Jesus and Pilate teach us more about his kingship and his kingdom.

All of the gospels have different emphasis and themes that they highlight as they share the life and ministry of Jesus. John's gospel is no exception. In this passage John weaves between the arrest and trial of Jesus with Peter's denial. What is John trying to highlight or point out by doing this?
