In today's episode, we explore how Reformer Workouts are simply Resistance Training.
This perspective will simplify teaching and empower instructors to focus on facilitating results with progressive overload strategies.
In short, with Reformer we don't need to reinvent the wheel... because simple and effective exercises that are scalable in intensity are the best way to help clients achieve results.
Simplify the language we use
Beginner
Intermediate
Advanced
are just words used to describe the intensity, they have no inherent association with the value of a human being.
Any choice of words that effectively communicate intensity is a tool to provide clients with the information they need to make informed decisions.
Think about what Nandos does! They give you a spice 🌶 rating to indicate intensity. If you decide to go for a different level of spice it does not affect your value as a human being.
What we are doing is no different. Simplify the language. Make the results of your clients your number one priority.
In this episode, I go in-depth on progressive overload and how we can guarantee that for clients as a systematic approach. You can use this even if the studio you are teaching in has only 1 level of class that they offer. Our goal as trainers/instructors is to be able to adapt to the ability levels in the room and to challenge our clients consistently to improve and help them become fitter and stronger.
Exercise Progression VS Exercise Sequence
When I first started I found these concepts very confusing!
In todays episode I explain the difference between progression and sequence. This knowledge will help you bring intention to your exercise delivery and class structure.
In this episode, I go in-depth on the purpose of teaching Pilates and what we are actually trying to achieve with the workout. The intention of any workout you do is not just to do a workout, but it is to achieve a specific outcome from that workout.
In this episode of the Nathan Ross Rees podcast, I take you inside a live REFORMER ACADEMY call with some of my mentees where I explain the theory behind reformer exercises about the how & why. I then go into how this applies to practice when doing your workouts. The goal of this episode is to deepen your understanding of the how & why with REFORMER ACADEMY.
In this episode, I will be going over how to assess what spring tension would be achievable for you depending on your body positioning. It will provide you with more variety in your exercises. I dive into the theory explaining this concept and then also how it works in practice.
How can we make reformer workout language
more understandable to the broader public?
How can we give them terminology they already understand.
What is the muscle?
What is the movement?
What is the benefit?
Let’s help more people. Let’s bring reformer workouts out of a micro-niche and into the broader population.
What is the difference between a Shoulder Press and Chest Press? What is difference between a Chest Fly and Reverse Fly? How changing your body position changes the focus of an exercise! All the basics are covered here today to help you teach with clarity and intention.
Reformer exercises have infinite movement potential... how can we simplify exercise delivery and control exercise intensity. The practice of Intentional Progression is your answer.
