Reckless Courage: Recent Episodes

Derek Heinish

Reckless Courage is a movement to get connected with fellow college students and young adults in order to give them God's road map to excelling, for His glory, through this crazy life. It was also created to be an outlet to get plugged into a community where relationships can be built with fellow students and Him who is the source of all "faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). We will dive into God's Word and see what He has to say about any and all aspects of life, with the hope of equipping everyone to be leaders who can protect, provide and preside in their families and community. Above all, our goal is to share His Word and the good news of Christ Jesus that will not just change our life here on this earth, but for the eternity we spend after.

Howdy everyone! In this episode, we finish chapter one of the book of Galatians! Paul gives us a great insight into what it looks like to give our testimony while also providing evidence that the Gospel he preaches comes from God alone and not from himself or men. The passage, Galatians 1:11-24, provides us with an example of how we can glorify God in our testimony when we listen, live, and preach the one true gospel from Christ and Christ alone through our testimony. I believe this ties in beautifully with a sermon from Pastor Joby Martin from the church of Eleven22! (Link below)

Howdy everyone! This episode continues with the first chapter of Galatians, a letter Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia. We cover Galatians 1:6-10 with a few cross-references to John, Romans, and Ephesians! The main theme is that there is only one true gospel and that we are saved by God's will and grace alone. How do we receive this gift? What did it cost God? How should our lives look after we receive this gift? Those are the questions we answer in this episode and will continue to dive deeper into what the Lord has for us! Thanks, Gig'em, and live a recklessly courageous life for Christ!

This was supposed to be published on Saturday, however, ran into technical problems

We finally kick off reading the actual book of Galatians! We begin this bible study with Galatians 1:1-5, Paul's introduction to his letter to the churches of Galatia. Observe, interpret, and apply this small, yet, profound passage that raises the question "Do I live like a new creation for the glory of God?". Reflect on your relationship with the Lord and see what scripture has for you!

Howdy everyone! I know it's been a long time, but the next episode is finally out, and Reckless Courage is back!

In this episode, we review Acts 15 as the last context surrounding the events before and after the letter to the Galatians was written. After a brief recap of the previous episode about the events before the letter was written, chapter 15 of Acts tells us what happened immediately after, providing us evidence of the authenticity of the message in the book of Galatians. This read-through of Acts 15 observes what the passage says with a brief interpretation of what scripture tells us, concluded by three application steps we can all take away from this reading of God's Word! Thanks, Gig'em, and live a recklessly courageous life for Christ!

Howdy and welcome back y'all! This episode goes over Acts 10 for the context after Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus and before Paul wrote the letter to the Church of Galatia. We also look at how the message and events in Acts 10 relate and provide evidence to the message in the book of Galatians. Originally this episode was supposed to be over both Acts 10 and 15 but there was a lot to be said about chapter 10 in the little time available so stay tuned for the next "Galatians Context" episode before we get into the book itself! God bless y'all! Go out and live a recklessly courageous life for Christ!

Howdy, y'all! This is the start of a new format, new series, and new Reckless Courage! Our first book study is over Galatians, an Epistle (letter) written from Paul to the Church in Galatia. This episode goes over the general context of the book of Galatians and its connection to the book of Acts. We cover the Author, the chronological, geological, and historical context of Galatians, and go over the book's outline and overarching message. We read Acts 9, reviewing Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus, providing context for Galatians 1 when he claims his message is not from man but from Christ Himself. In the next episode we cover Acts 10, Simon-Peter's vision from God and meeting with Cornelius the centurion for the context before Galatians, and Acts 15, the council of Jerusalem, for the context post-Galatians. Thank y'all for listening and I hope and pray you have a blessed day! Now go out and live a recklessly courageous life for Christ!

Howdy! Welcome back y'all! It's been a long time coming but we finally finished the Fear trilogy series (inspired by the book "Living Fearless" by Jamie Winship) by going over 1 Corinthians 13 and doing a deep dive into what scripture has to say about Love, who it is, and how Love is what we use to fight against the spirit of fear. We also cover a tragic event that occurred on October 7th overseas in Israel. Reckless Courage is back with a whole new outline and mindset and ready to go out and obediently live a recklessly courageous life for Christ!

This second part of the Fear Trilogy covers fear of the Lord versus fear of self-preservation.  How one fear is healthy and appropriate and the other leads to death.  One allows God to lead with full control and the other claims we know best for lives with our small, finite knowledge.  The main scripture for this episode is Psalm 25 where it talks about giving our life and trust to the Lord for Him to lead us!

Verses to pray over:

  • Psalm 119:105
  • Psalm 138:8
  • Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Proverbs 19:21
  • Jeremiah 29:10-14

Challenge questions for prayer time:

  • "What do you want me to know about you Lord?"
  • "What do you want me to know about our fear?"

We are starting a new trilogy season called "Faith vs Fear" where we will cover the war between the faith God has given to us and continues to perfect in us and the fear that the enemy tries to distract us with.

In this first episode, the Reckless Crew discusses, not only, the effects fear has on our prayer life and identity, but also the God-glorifying perspective of faith to replace those lies and fears with!

Merry Christmas eve and Merry Christmas y'all!  Praying for everyone has had a fantastic break and is ready for Christmas! This episode is a big one!  It not only talks about one of my favorite topics and covers a favorite part of scripture, but it sets up the next two and final episodes of this first season of Reckless Courage!  Luke 19:1-10 is the scripture we look at today covering the story of Zaccheus and what the little guy has to show us about what we climb.  We dive into looking at what are the things we try to do and "climb" to prove we are worthy of something or someone and do we place our worth in the calling we have in our life?

Join the Reckless Crew as we talk about what we seek recklessly!  We do a deep dive into Colossians 2:6-12 as we find ways to uncuff from the things that keep us captive.  Then we tie it all in with Jesus and the rich young man in Mark 10:17-31 and talk about how what we seek can affect different areas in our life and may either prevent or promote an abundant life in Christ.

The first episode of our first season is about the duality of recklessness.  The crew talks about where reckless purpose leads us in college and where we find our identity and fulfillment in our lives.  We compare what the world says about purpose, value, identity, and fulfillment to what Scripture says in Colossians 1:15-23 about where true identity and fulfillment come from!

Also... with cameos from two good doggos who try to take over the podcast!

A great resource mentioned was Transformation Church!  Highly recommend watching their sermon series on YouTube or getting their app and joining Transformation nation!
