In 2021, Hamish Anderson released the single “Morning Light” that marked some firsts in Hamish’s career - first time co-producing with David Davis (Miguel, The War on Drugs, Lauren Ruth Ward), and first time recording remotely (in a pandemic!). The song was praised by Under The Radar as a “timeless mix of influences that Anderson revives with fresh energy,” and as “punchy, bombastic and uplifting with just a pinch of washed-out psychedelia” by American Songwriter.

He follows in 2022 with “Everything Starts Again” – a great mantra for the New Year. An evolution from his signature blues/rock sound, Hamish delves into indie pop/rock beats with a nod towards influences of Badfinger, The Pretenders and Pete Townshend. It showcases the deft guitar skills and musical prowess of an artist that All Things Go aptly states “clearly knows the path from nostalgia to the future.” The new single “Everything Starts Again” is now available on all streaming platforms.

The phrase, “Ava, you are a lot,” has been a familiar refrain in the life of Alaska singer-songwriter Ava Earl. Uttered with loving amusement by her parents, mild frustration by more than one teacher, and joyful admiration by a few key mentors, this notion of “being a lot” is at the heart of her latest studio album, fittingly titled, Too Much. Earl is currently a junior at Northwestern University, located just outside of Chicago, where she’s channeling her near boundless energy into a packed schedule of academics, athletics, and of course, music. Her studies include political science, critical theory, and creative writing. Before and after class, she’s also racking up some serious mileage as a member of the school’s NCAA Division-I cross country running and track teams. Somewhere in there, she also writes music. How does she make it all work? “Really, I think this is just the way I’m wired,” she says. “I’ve been balancing school, running, and music since I was about ten. The stakes are obviously higher now—and I definitely get stressed at times, but running and music have always been my two biggest loves, so taking both of these things to a higher level makes me incredibly happy.” Last fall, Earl was one of seven Northwestern runners who helped the team qualify for the cross-country national meet. It was the first time the team made it to nationals in 20 years. That’s the kind of success Earl hopes to mirror with Too Much. “I honestly do see a lot of similarities in this trajectory,” she explains. “We made it to nationals because we put in the work, we had the support of our coaches, families, and friends, and we believed in our potential. I feel that exact way about my music right now.” Having opened for the likes of Maggie Rogers while still in high school and releasing four albums by the time she was 18, Earl has already solidified herself in the Americana scene as an emerging artist. She made a big step up in 2021 with her album The Roses, produced by GRAMMY-nominated JT Nero. Well received by Americana UK, Holler, and American Songwriter, several songs were featured on Spotify editorial playlists, with “Mountain Song” amassing more than 100,000 streams. Too Much continues on this path. Produced by JUNO-winner Zachariah Hickman and recorded at Great North Sound Society in Maine, the album champions a new sound––one that breaks away from previous recordings while staying close to Earl’s unique writing style. Rooted in lyrical rock, there are tracks that evoke the pop sounds of Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams, while others hint at Americana artists Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith, and Laura Marling. Thematically, the album takes us through Earl’s journey of early adulthood, including the concept of being “too much.” “Women are often told or made to feel like we are too much,” Earl says. “We are too much for our surroundings, too much for our peers, too much for our own good. We are supposed to wait our turn, couch our ideas in questions, and just be small. That’s never worked out for me. From a young age, I have been labeled ‘too much’ and I know from experience, I couldn’t be less if I tried. This album works through those feelings of being too much—both for others and sometimes for myself.” The title track, “Too Much,” tackles this duality head-on. Written in the aftermath of COVID shutdowns and her experience of sudden and permanent single-sided deafness, the deceivingly upbeat tune confronts her hearing loss anxieties, which are purely internal, as well as her romantic insecurities, which are far more external. In “Ears Bleed” the concept of “too much” turns wholly inward. “After going deaf in my right ear, I was left with emotions that took months to unravel, sort, and explain. Six months in, I thought I had come to a semblance of peace when this song tumbled out of me, surprising me with a pain that was still so palpable,” she says. Songs about being too much for others tend to have more bite. That’s certainly the case with “Better Than,” and “The Things You Said,” where Earl works through old feelings of being too eager and too earnest, labels that she says used to make her feel embarrassed, but today she wears with pride. “I am too much, and I don’t think that will change,” she states. “But I do hope that this album can show other women and girls like me that being too much is actually a wonderful thing.”

West Virginia-born songwriter Christian Lopez caught the attention of major Nashville talent-spotters while in his late teens. Starting with 2014's EP “Pilot”, he released a series of albums that earned him an audience despite diverging from the contemporary country mainstream. A native of Martinsburg, Lopez started taking piano lessons at five but was first strongly drawn to music when he was nine, during a family trip to a dude ranch in South Dakota that featured a Western-style band. He took up the guitar, fronting an AC/DC-inspired outfit in high school, but switched to country when his father bought him compilation albums by Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. "It was then that I realized that meaning and message could matter in music," he has said. Fronting the Christian Lopez Band, which took cues from the Avett Brothers and the roots music of his home state, Lopez traveled to Nashville and caught the attention of producer Dave Cobb, who steered him in the direction of modern country songwriting without losing the distinctive mix of influences that had shaped the young performer.Lopez signed to the Blaster label and released his debut album, the Cobb-helmed Onward, in 2015 at age 19. That landed Lopez on the 2016 season lineup of Mountain Stage, the West Virginia Public Radio program with a national reach, and on the radar of the large All Eyes Media agency. A track from Onward, "Will I See You Again," notched more than one million digital plays largely without benefit of radio airplay or major publicity. For his second Blaster album, Red Arrow, Lopez worked with producer Marshall Altman. One track, "Still on Its Feet," featured Vince Gill on guitar, and top session fiddler Stuart Duncan appeared as well. Red Arrow was released in the fall of 2017 in both CD and LP formats as well as online. Lopez's tour dates for early 2018 included venues in college towns including Tuscaloosa and Auburn, Alabama.Lopez released a series of digital singles in 2020, beginning with "Sip of Mine," then running through "Who You Really Are,” "Sick of Me," and "Tanglin." Eventually leading to the release of his 3rd full length album release, “The Other Side” in 2021, working along side producer, Robert Adam Stevenson; who also co-produced Lopez's latest release "Magdalena" alongside Christian himself. -James Manheim

Sandy Bailey’s sound has often been compared to a spectrum of acts, including Norah Jones, Patsy Cline, Susan Tedeschi, and Patti Smith - yet she possesses a sound all her own. Her latest recording, Daughter of Abraham, will be released summer of 2023 on Red Parlor Records. The upcoming ten-song collection, expertly produced by Bailey, showcases her signature sound, but with a bolder, more idiosyncratic attention to detail. Incorporating elements of gospel blues, soul, and classic Americana, the depth of her songwriting stems from her life and identity as a biracial woman and single mother who abandoned a Pentecostal upbringing in favor of a life of art-making and rock and roll.
The artist, Sandy Bailey, is discovered in each profound, candid tune. Her influences are on display from track to track. The first radio single “I Ain’t Your Honey” is a declarative groover with a soulfully lilting vocal, stating clearly the boundaries of a relationship. “Get The Message Through” shows Bailey’s Americana roots. Her straight-forward vocal approach in the vein of Emmylou Harris is a warm reminder of 1970s folk-rock with a modern lyrical bent.
The compelling title track is the story of an enslaved black man in 1859 walking north to freedom by starlight in the dark cover of night. “He almost forgot about the holes in his shoes when his stomach started growling,” she sings. The song is one of hope and survival, played to perfection with upright bass, subtle use of a baritone ukulele, a hauntingly reverberant piano, and electric slide guitar. “Light of the day, my inner flame/I am weary, guide my way,” Bailey reflects on her own self-doubt, and inspired by Abraham, sings her way through her troubles.
Her gospel influence comes through on “Bottles of Emptiness” with Hammond organ taking the lead, while Bailey’s production chops shine on “Like You Loved Me”. The outro lifts into the stratosphere with a Thom Yorke-style vocal and swirling rock instrumentation.
The new recording includes performances by acclaimed musicians; guitarist Ryan Hommel (Amos Lee), bassist and engineer Marc Seedorf (Dinosaur JR, Lou Barlow), and drummer Don McAulay (The Rolling Stones, Neil Young) as well as neighbors, parents, coworkers, and even Bailey’s kids. It’s an alluringly moody, genre-defying album, alternating in tone between the laid-back cool of Bonnie Raitt and the no-fucks-given fire of Joni Mitchell, tempered with moments of genuine, heartbreaking vulnerability. Daughter of Abraham is the sound of a woman living her life.

L.A. indie musician and touring bassist for Claud, Goblynne (they/them) releases debut album Hot! : ( - an art-pop record about the delicious, insane horrors of trying to be a girl - TODAY!

In 2021, Goblynne (né Molly Kirschenbaum) won the Hollywood Encore Producers’ Award for their one-person show Hot! : (. Using songs from their performance to create the album, Hot! : ( explores the tenacity of performative femininity, even for those who reject it. “As a nonbinary person, I have often felt like femininity was something I either chose to engage with or was forced to engage with,” Kirschenbaum says. “I ended up creating this character in my head that this project was about, this person who embodies all the aspects of Western American beauty, blonde, blue-eyed, but a little tortured, a little haunted, and decided to try to free them from their body with this album.”

For Kirschenbaum, that meant turning their multi-instrumental, vocal, and sound mixing skills into art pop so shiny it doubles as a mirror. Kirschenbaum, alongside co-producer Adam Rochelle, crafted a smart pop landscape a la Caroline Polachek.

Mercy Music is a three-piece rock band from Las Vegas, NV, USA. New full-length album coming Summer 2023.

The title of their upcoming album (What You Stand To Lose) refers to the many monumental changes in vocalist and guitarist Brendan Scholz personal life since it was “flipped upside down" between this album and their last (2020’s Nothing in the Dark), “What You Stand To Lose is about coming face to face with one of your worst fears, learning from the experience, and hoping you come out the other side a better person,” he says.

Over the course of these 11 tracks the band (Brendan, who penned all the songs; bassist Jarred Cooper; and drummer Rye Martin) find inspiration in the fact that nothing should be taken for granted, no time should be wasted, and there is everything in the world to lose by not collectively fighting hard enough to succeed. They mostly sound downright happy so long as you don’t listen too closely to the lyrics. Jarred adds, “When people listen to our new album, I want them to feel happy, sad, inspired, and depressed. Then I want them to feel happy again. That last part is critically important.”

When all is said and done, Brendan, Jarred, and Rye are just good people who care a whole lot about the people who depend on them – all three of them are devoted fathers, the latter two to very young children – and they also care a whole lot about the people who turn to Mercy Music for solace.

Andy Frasco & The U.N. have long been the high-flying DIY renegades of the touring scene known and loved for their kaleidoscopic musical fusion and one-of-a-kind onstage audacity. Now celebrating their longevity, the band is shaking things up with L’Optimist (Fun Machine Records/Soundly), as its title suggests, Frasco’s most hopeful and enthusiastic collection thus far. A testament to Frasco’s wide-ranging influences and boundless energy, his band’s sixth released studio album sees the magnetic frontman continuing to chart his path of self-exploration and personal discovery through increasingly introspective lyricism and musical adventure. Songs like “Everything Bagel (Feat. Artikal Sound System)” and the deeply moving “Iowa Moon” touch on matters of the heart and mental health, emotional struggle and the sheer vulnerability of the human experience, all relayed through a wildly eclectic approach navigating funk, jazz, surf rock, blues, swing, gospel, reggae, exotica, and more with horn-blasted positivity and soulful power.

Andy Frasco & the U.N. are recognized for their heavy tour schedule and D.I.Y. work ethic. The band has toured the U.S. numerous times over, as well as Europe, and China, performing at festivals such as Wakarusa, Electric Forest Festival, Sacred Rose Festival, Yonder Mountain String Band's Harvest Festival, String Cheese Incident's Festival at Horning's Hideout, Cotai Jazz & Blues Festival, Zwarte Cross Festival, Paaspop, Koningsmiddag Festival, Geuzenpop Festival, and the Tucher Jazz & Blues Festival.

Andy just announced his new album and shared the first song from the record called 'You Do You' with an accompanying video that is absolutely stellar. Says Andy, "With everything that's going on in this country right now surrounding LGBTQIA+ rights and the government not letting people be themselves, this was my call to arms and a way of adding another voice to the fight. "You Do You" is a song about being unapologetically yourself at all times, even if some don’t agree. This is what we should always be fighting for."

"You Do You" is out now.

Ethereal, ambient “Seaglass” builds on the dark mood of Oakland-based Last Planet's last release, “Whiskey Breath," and establishes their trance-inducing modern alt-rock vibe. “Seaglass” is about longingly clinging to love or an emotional high when you feel it slipping away. The vocal melody flows through the atmospheric soundscape, like ocean waves over seaglass, seducing the listener and conveying the yearning for the fading emotional high to linger. After a year in the studio, Last Planet will be hitting northern California stages playing well-known venues, county fairs, and beloved dive bars. They look forward to connecting with their fans and making new ones. More information at lastplanetband.com and @lastplanetband.

Christian Lopez is an artist who puts all of his eggs in one basket. The devoted singer songwriter spent the last year and a half in a tiny New Mexican town called, Magdalena, writing and recording in a small adobe casita, on a mission to conjure the purest sounds and songs from the deepest depths of himself. With the help of producer, Robert Adam Stevenson, who also produced Lopez’s last project “The Other Side” (2021), Christian delivers a new full length album laced with perspective, honesty, and a need for meaning. Lopez’s work was interrupted in April 2022 when his little brother tragically overdosed on fentanyl in his hometown of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Heartbroken but somehow more awoken, Lopez has managed to gain the gift of “nothing to lose “.. “Magdalena”, his 4th full-length album, is the representation of Lopez’s constantly altering state, with the common thread being his signature acoustic guitar playing, soaring vocals, and songs that focus less on a hook and more about hooking you to a feeling. You could say Christian Lopez has come a long way since his 2014 debut with producer Dave Cobb, but now age 27, he feels as though he’s just getting started.

Regina Ferguson is an artist based in Topanga Canyon, California, “she magically blends rock and roll with western music to create a distinct and original sound”. (LA Weekly)
Regina is no stranger to the stage, her music career took off in Charleston, South Carolina before she made the bold move to Los Angeles to work with some of the best talent in the industry. She’s quickly making a name for herself in the thriving country and Americana music scenes of Los Angeles. Her musical style has continued to evolve, and fans eagerly await her debut album, Fortune, which is set to release this fall.
Fortune was recorded at Infinitespin Studio in Los Angeles with producer Matt Linesch. The entire album was recorded on a Studer 24-track tape machine, fully analog with no digital editing. “It is the nostalgia of the old sound and the upbeat story-telling style that no music lover can resist”. (LA Weekly)
Regina’s raw, powerful vocals cut straight through the tape and her ability to write music worthy of her world class session players cannot be overlooked. Tracking live with the band in the studio gives her music a pulse that can only be achieved in this organic manner. Among others, Griffin Goldsmith (Dawes) and Brett Simons (Chicago) laid the foundation with Aaron Embry on piano and organ, as well as other various instruments and Ben Peeler on pedal steel and lap guitars, both of whom currently tour with Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers.
You can catch Regina fronting her five piece band in Los Angeles as she plans to tour her new album this Fall.

They are widely known for their dazzling live performances and relentless touring schedule, but that is only the tip of the complex tale of the five musicians that make up Greensky Bluegrass: Anders Beck [dobro], Michael Arlen Bont [banjo], Dave Bruzza [guitar], Mike Devol [upright bass], and Paul Hoffman [Mandolin]. The five are connected through a deep bond, just as they are seasoned road warriors, they’re a band of brothers who have seen each other through decades of ups and downs, personal and collective highlights, and the moments when life turns it all upside down. These are real people having real experiences. As with traditional bluegrass, they write about their own contemporary day-to-day happenings, emotions, and experiences in the modern world.

About Bluphoria:
Now based in Nashville, Bluphoria formed in 2019 after Reign moved to Eugene to study film at the University of Oregon. During his sophomore year, Reign met Dakota Landrum (20-year-old rhythm guitarist and background vocalist), another University of Oregon student, "the only other black guy in the area,” at a party they were both attending. Rex Wolf (22-year-old bassist and background vocalist), a music major at the University of Oregon, and Reign met shortly after through Instagram and the band released their debut EP Alone in June 2020, and double A-side Landfills & Bottlecaps (featuring the songs “Something More” and “Conscientious Debauchery”) that November. By chance, an EDGEOUT Records intern was at one of the band's famed house shows which ultimately led to the band signing to EDGEOUT / UME / UMG in January of 2021. It was around then that the band found themselves misaligned with their original drummer which led to Dani Janae (21-years-old) joining as the band’s new drummer and only female member. In January 2022, the group drove across the country from Oregon to Tennessee to record their debut album (out May 5th) with GRAMMY award-winning producer Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Fleetwood Mac) at East Iris Studios in Berry Hill, as well as at Needham’s personal Nashville Studio. They have subsequently signed for representation to Glastry Management, who also represent the Rolling Stones and up-and-coming English singer-songwriter Daisy Clark.

We're tossing out the news today because we have a guest on the program! Please welcome, Indie Folk artist, Governor Tom!

LOS ANGELES, CA. February 21, 2023—Governor Tom, a pseudonym of actor/writer/musician Tom Wood, has announced his debut show, “TWO Badass-Singer-Songwriter STUDS, Two Guitars, One Microphone.” The show will be at Jeweled Universe, 1017 Mission Street, South Pasadena, 91030 on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 626-399-0066 or 818-421-1993. Tom, who spent his childhood in South Pasadena, and his teenage years in Pasadena, is returning to his roots for his debut performance, sharing the stage with popular indie folk artist, Dana Cooper. “Dana is earning a lot of accolades with his latest CD tour, and I’ve got a stack of new, original music to share,” Tom says. “Like my first time skateboarding down Camino Del Sol at 13, or soloing at Ambassador Auditorium as a Blair Highschooler, this show is gonna be memorable.”

Governor Tom is a musical character created by Tom for a self-penned television project showcasing new music. His dynamic, indie folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic, heartfelt poignancy. His melodic explorations travel paths and byways like those of Andrew Bird, Leonard Cohen, and Sting. His first two singles, “A Man with a Hat” and “Living Wild,” landed on Riot Radio’s The Indie Hour Jazz Playlist, broadcasting from Durham College in Ontario, Canada. Following the show in March, Tom will release his final single, “Public Eye,” before releasing his debut EP this spring. Creating music has been “an organic experience, and I believe that’s part of its charm.”

Performing is not new to Tom. In his youth, he performed in neighborhood garage shows and later in countless professional musicals and revues. He then dove into a full-time acting career, known worldwide for his performances in The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Apollo 13, Ulee’s Gold, and Under Siege. After taking a hiatus from the high demands of the acting profession, he shifted his focus back to music while raising his four sons. In 2020, he began dedicating his time to performing at open mic nights and refining his melodies, lyrics, and style.

The show at Jeweled Universe is the beginning of a busy year for Tom. Thick in completing final mixes for his EP, Tom’s excited to find new roads to explore musically and share his music publicly. “It’s ideal to live with work and family creatively in balance. As a singer-songwriter, I can speak from my heart, assured of my intent.” Tom is now achieving his most revered goal: to write, create from a blank page, and share the results with the world. “A stage, a live audience, laughter, focus, pathos…nothing beats performing live. I’m grateful.”

After months of uncertainty and feeling left in the dark, many former Twitter employees impacted by a mass layoff in early November began receiving their severance offers over the weekend. But some are frustrated by the offer and the conditions attached to it. The severance offer promises one month’s pay in exchange for agreeing to various terms, including a non-disparagement agreement and waiving the right to take any legal action against the company, according to Lisa Bloom, a lawyer representing dozens of former Twitter employees affected by the layoffs. Many were dissatisfied by the offer, according to public posts and attorneys representing ex-employees, saying it falls short of the “3 months of severance” that new owner Elon Musk had previously promised would be provided. Elon Musk has secured a world record for the largest loss of personal fortune in history, Guinness World Records claimed Friday. In a blog post, the global organization, which keeps track of a huge variety of records, cited Forbes’ estimate that Musk had lost around $182 billion since November 2021 but noted that other sources indicate the figure is closer to $200 billion. While the true figure is unclear, Musk’s losses appear to easily surpass those of the previous record-holder, Japanese tech investor Masayoshi Son, who lost $58.6 billion in 2000. Forbes reported that that Musk’s net worth dropped from a peak of $320 billion in November 2021 to $137 billion on Tuesday. The magazine attributed Musk’s steep decline in net worth to shares of Tesla, of which Musk is CEO and the largest shareholder, falling by 65%. Forbes reported that the drop occurred almost entirely after Musk announced his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in April. Musk sold $7 billion worth of Tesla stock as he was trying to finance his deal to buy the social media company and another $4 billion in November. He sold another $3.58 billion worth of stock last month, bringing his total sell-off to more than $23 billion since April. Musk lost his status as the world’s wealthiest person as a result of Tesla’s collapsing shares, being surpassed by French fashion and cosmetics magnate Bernard Arnault. A group of avid Celine Dion fans gathered outside of Rolling Stone headquarters in Midtown Manhattan on Friday, protesting the magazine for excluding the five-time Grammy Award-winning diva from its “200 Greatest Singers of All Time” list. Video shared online shows protesters chanting and singing songs outside the headquarters, carrying signs with messages including “How could you forget Celine?” and “Rolling Stone, you’ve hit an iceberg,” KTLA sister station WJW reports. The list, which was released on New Year’s Day, has caused plenty of social media uproar over its placement or exclusion of big industry names, most notably Dion.
Rolling Stone kicked off the list with a disclaimer that “this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List.” Previously, farmers were only allowed to use authorised parts and service facilities rather than cheaper independent repair options. What does it mean to be “middle class” anymore? The definition can be confusing — and it changes depending on where you live and how many people are in your household. In a study published in 2022, Pew Research Center defined “middle-income” adults as “adults in 2021 with an annual household income that was two-thirds to double the national median income in 2020, after incomes have been adjusted for household size.” Pew explains that a middle income equals an annual household income of $52,000 to $156,000 for a family of three, based on 2020 dollars. These numbers are obviously not adjusted for inflation since then. Adjusted for inflation, using this CPI inflation calculator, annual household income to be classified as middle class would start around $60,000. In Lake Katwe, Uganda, A 2-year-old boy in Uganda was swallowed by a hippo and then spit back out after a witness pelted the animal with stones, according to police. Police said the attack happened in April but it wasn’t reported by officers until Monday. Officials said the 2-year-old boy was identified as Iga Paul. Police said Iga was playing at his home when the hippo grabbed him by “the head and swallowed half of his body.” Police credited a nearby witness, Chrispas Bagonza, with saving the boy after he threw stones at the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the 2-year-old from its mouth. Officials said Iga was rushed to a clinic and then taken to a hospital for further treatment. They said the boy recovered fully after receiving a vaccine for rabies. Authorities said the hippo traveled about 800 meters from Lake Edward. They said this is the first time a hippo strayed out of Lake Edward and attacked a young child. According to National Geographic, hippos’ deadly strength makes them one of Africa’s most dangerous animals. It is estimated that as many as 500 to 3,000 humans die from hippo attacks each year. Although hippos are vegetarian, National Geographic said they can be aggressive when they sense danger. Beer sales have long been a gauge of the economy. It takes a lot for beer lovers to abandon their brews.
But now with inflation near a 40 year high and the cost of brewing a beer (raw materials, shipping cost, etc.) on the rise, breweries are being forced to raise the prices of their products and increasingly consumers are buying less beer. In spite of concerns over an economy plagued with supply chain disruptions and rising personnel costs, beer had appeared to be amazingly “recession-resistant” post-pandemic, but now that might be changing. The world’s first vaccine for honeybees has been approved for use by the US government, raising hopes of a new weapon against diseases that routinely ravage colonies that are relied upon for food pollination. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has granted a conditional license for a vaccine created by Dalan Animal Health, a US biotech company, to help protect honeybees from American foulbrood disease. The vaccine, which will initially be available to commercial beekeepers, aims to curb foulbrood, a serious disease caused by the bacterium Paenibacillus larvae that can weaken and kill hives. There is currently no cure for the disease, which in parts of the US has been found in a quarter of hives, requiring beekeepers to destroy and burn any infected colonies and administer antibiotics to prevent further spread. Now, under its new owner Elon Musk, the company is easing that ban, in a move that could provide Twitter a much-needed sales boost at a time when Musk is urgently searching for new revenue streams. But it comes with some risks: the policy change could expose users to threats the company has previously said it may not be able to address, including spreading AI-created deep fakes and other sophisticated attempts to manipulate the platform. Along with firing janitors at Twitter’s New York City offices, according to the Times, Musk has attempted to cut costs across the company. Measures included not paying rent in San Francisco, which has led to Twitter being sued for not paying $136,260 in rent money, according to CBS News. Musk has also limited the number of floors used by Twitter in San Francisco from four to two, the Times reported. The newspaper also said Twitter will close its Seattle offices as it faces eviction. Forecasters are calling for large King Tide surf to hit the Orange County coast this week. The larger than average waves are expected to arrive Wednesday with the largest tides reaching over 7 feet by Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Crumbl Cookies, a Utah-based franchise of cookie bakeries, has violated child labor regulations in six states, affecting 46 minor-aged workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The affluent city of Santa Barbara is known as the American Riviera. Its sprawling south-facing beaches are dotted with luxury hotels and its hills to the north are home to some of the world’s most famous people. It’s also one of the most popular destinations for tourists from neighboring cities who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in one of the most beautiful places in America. So as a major tourist hub that has an economy that relies heavily on hospitality, why is a budget pizza chain one of the most recommended restaurants in the city? It all started on the social media site Reddit.---- There are subreddits dedicated to cities, one of which is /r/SantaBarbara. The idea of a city subreddit is, in its purest form, a place for locals to discuss the day-to-day events of the city, squabble over decisions made by city politicians, complain about the cost of rent or just reminisce about the “good ol’ days” before the city was ruined by this or that.---- Well because anyone can post in these subreddits, there’s also a heavy dose of non-locals asking residents for advice on how to spend their time and money in the city. With a city as popular as Santa Barbara, posts by tourists asking locals to essentially plan their trips for them were becoming an annoyance.---The Milpas corridor in Santa Barbara is one of the city’s less affluent neighborhoods, with working class residents and a large grouping of the city’s fast food locations. It’s a far cry from the Montecito, Hope Ranch and Mesa neighborhoods. It was meant to be an absurdist idea: an outsider looking for a fancy night out with their friend or significant other is encouraged to visit a pizza shop known for $5 pre-cooked pizzas in a lower-income neighborhood. But the inside joke caught on like wildfire. So if you’re looking for a recommendation of where to eat on a night out in Santa Barbara, and you don’t feel like doing any of the research yourself, ask a local. The only answer is Little Caesars on Milpas.

The November elections saw Californians continue to embrace progressive leadership, but voters in one of the state’s most populous counties are so frustrated with this political direction that they voted to consider seceding and forming their own state. An advisory ballot proposal approved in San Bernardino County — home to 2.2 million people — directs local officials to study the possibility of secession. The razor-thin margin of victory is the latest sign of political unrest and economic distress in California. As housing and living costs remain unaffordable for many living in Los Angeles, new data shows plenty of residents are migrating to more affordable locales. A new SmartAsset study shows the migration trend to more affordable cities has created a series of “boomtowns” across America. These cities saw the largest increase in population, income and available housing over a five-year period from 2016-2021. Three Southern California cities in particular saw the largest growth. Christmas songs have taken over the airways, at least until New Year’s Eve, if not longer. The “most wonderful time of the year” often results in people singing along to their favorite Christmas songs, whether it’s a classic hit like “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway or the divisive fan-favorite song “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey. A study from Verizon Specials determined which Christmas song was the most searched for in each state. Researchers determined the ranking using Semrush, an online marketing platform, to determine the top 10 Christmas songs with the most search volume and Google Trends data.

In the airline business, there are two cost factors the airlines can never control: fuel and labor. And as technology improves — and pilot salaries increase — there's been a controversial move lately by the industry to try to amend what's known as part 121 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. That's the federal air regulation that requires air carriers to have two pilots in the cockpit at all times. The airlines have been quietly lobbying that the single-pilot approach would quickly solve the staffing problem caused by the pilot shortage and that technology has vastly improved to allow for safe operation of a single-pilot flight. The Times Guild, a union representing a variety of employees at the New York Times, staged a one-day walkout as part of a high-profile contract bargaining process in which the union and the newspaper’s management have been unable to come to agreement on issues such as compensation, remote work and health care. The union asked readers to avoid interacting with Times content on that day — including avoiding the Times’ mega-popular word game, Wordle. For Wordle players, skipping a day could mean breaking their winning streak, a sacrifice some were willing to make. “Read local news. Listen to public radio. Pull out a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak,” the Guild tweeted.

Ray is leaning on a team that he’s grown to know over years of bankruptcy restructurings, and the company is paying them millions for the work that they’re doing to unpack FTX’s tangled morass of accounts and shoddy records. Ray and his top team are not like typical employees who work directly for the company. Instead, like bankers and lawyers who are working on the bankruptcy proceedings, the new leadership team is professional independent contractors. That means, among other things, that they get paid immediately, before any FTX investors receive recompense for their losses. According to court filings, the new FTX CEO will collect $1,300 hourly plus “reasonable expenses” for his work. That works out to an annualized $2.6 million, assuming Ray works a standard 40-hour workweek for 50 weeks over a year, allowing for two weeks of unpaid vacation.

Our guest today is the general sales manager for UCLA Sports and the Rose Bowl, Damon Dukakis. Miles of brittle, uprooted almond trees lay dead on their sides on parched farmland in Coalinga, California, as an intensifying drought, new restrictions and skyrocketing water prices are forcing farmers to sacrifice their crops. With the city on track to run out of water by mid- to late November, officials turned to the increasingly expensive open market to make up the difference. They finalized a purchase from a California public irrigation district last week. The city’s price tag for life’s most basic necessity was roughly $1.1 million dollars. The same amount of water used to cost $114,000. The only thing better than your favorite team stealing a base during the World Series is getting rewarded for it. Taco Bell announced that the highly-anticipated “steal a base, steal a taco” promotion is making a return for the 11th year during the 2022 World Series. As always, Taco Bell will give fans a free Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco if any MLB player manages to steal a base. However, this year Taco Bell is changing things up to make the promotion a home run. A new study finds that some people really are “mosquito magnets” and it probably has to do with the way they smell. The researchers found that people who are most attractive to mosquitoes produce a lot of certain chemicals on their skin that are tied to smell. And bad news for mosquito magnets: The bloodsuckers stay loyal to their favorites over time. Bad news for Millennials and Gen X. The emojis we use may be making us seem old. Gen Z is now canceling the ‘Thumbs Up’ emoji. They say its rude and hostile, and they feel attacked whenever it's used in the workplace.

United Airlines reported better-than-expected quarterly profit of $942 million. But that’s not what’s interesting here. What’s interesting is that the carrier is attributing at least part of its financial success to the growing trend of remote work. “Hybrid work allows every weekend to be a holiday weekend,” United CEO Scott Kirby said. McDonald’s Halloween Happy Meal pumpkin pals made their return on Today! The group is with me talking about the origins of how the band met and formed nearly 10-years ago. As a band growing up in Dublin, Ireland, they were exposed to American culture through media and entertainment; now that they can travel all around the states playing music, they say they love the experience. And their "oh my gosh" moment is described more as moments (plural). They say, "we have a lot of them... every time you come here, even walking down a suburban street, is liking being in a movie… L.A. really blows our mind." Including live semi-acoustic performances of "It Won't Always Be Like This," "Cheer Up Baby," and "Totally."

Wildside was a metal band formed in 1988, at the pinnacle of the Hollywood Hair Metal craze, by guitarist Benny Rhynedance and singer Drew Hannah. Both were 1986 Hollywood Hair Metal transplants from the pre-grunge Seattle music scene, which was then dead as a doornail.

With legendary Led Zeppelin record producer Andy Johns at the helm, Wildside recorded their debut CD in secret at Eddie Van Halen's personal home studio, and also at the renowned A&M studios in Hollywood throughout 1991. Master metal mix-meisters Steve Thompson and Michael Barbierio mixed the CD to near perfection. They had mixed and produced many big hair rock bands in the 80's. Capitol Records had a slick package to market to the metal masses. How could they lose?

Let's catch up with Drew Hannah and his new project "80s Metal Recycle Bin" on YouTube.

When it comes to writing music and playing shows, Neal tells me, "I try to work on being less aware of myself, and I sort of just let it go."   Neal Francis includes performs "Can't Stop The Rain," "Problems," and "Alameda Apartments."  Before playing the songs, Neal Francis gives us an insight into the inspiration for each piece.
