Joseph had all authority in Egypt. When he is reunited with his brothers, he chooses to graciously forgive them and to heap on blessings.
Jesus, the true and better Lord of All, has all authority in Heaven and on Earth. He offers forgiveness and blessing to those who seek Him.
God elevates Joseph to a place of great authority in Egypt and fulfills what He promised through Joseph's dreams 22 years before, that his brothers would bow to him. Joseph demonstrates radical forgiveness toward his brothers. This is a picture of the radical forgiveness we find in Christ, and it calls us to forgive others in the same manner.
Temptation pursues like a lion, …but a way of escape is available, …and God gives favor.

Jacob's son Judah was a man of questionable character, but by God's grace, Jesus, the true and better Lion of Judah is a descendant of Judah and Tamar. And like Judah did for his brother Benjamin, Jesus offered up His own life as a pledge, guaranteeing eternal life for all who will believe.
Joseph's brothers plotted to kill him. They threw him in a pit and eventually sold him to some slave traders and then covered up their deed by killing a goat, dipping Joseph's robe in it, and telling their father Joseph was killed by wild animals.
The Jewish rulers plotted against Jesus, the true and better Joseph; they crucified Him; and when He rose again, they tried to cover it up by claiming His disciples stole the body.
One day, the living Christ will ride in victoriously on a white horse wearing a robe dipped in blood.
In this passage, Jacob unconditionally surrenders to the Lord, as demonstrated by his act of going up to Bethel, building an alter, and pouring a drink offering on it. He has a final son born to him by Rachel, Benjamin (son of favor) near Bethlehem. Jesus is the true and better drink offering and the true and better Son of Favor.
