In our series of interviews for the Future Positive Podcast, we recently interviewed Nicky Pattinson, trainer, consultant and event speaker who specialises in improving communication skills for teams in a variety of sectors, including professional services’ firms.
Nicky’s work experience, firstly as a market trader, not in stocks and shares but in biscuits and cakes on a stall in a Yorkshire mill town, taught her how to make a quick impression with potential customers walking by. She recognised that tone of voice, body language and charisma were essential when trying to communicate effectively. Previously to taking up this position she was a small business and consumer affairs broadcaster, producer and writer. She started her career as an adviser and then CEO with Citizens Advice before moving into radio and TV - specialising in business and consumer affairs. If that wasn't impressive enough… she is the Financial Inclusion Commissioner as well as Chair of the BSI Consumer Forum and the Fair by Design Campaign. Finally she is also an Ambassador for the Money Advice Trust and Business Debtline.

Emma is ow considered to be one of UK's most recognised business experts, as well as being a best-selling author of business books such as ‘Working 5 to 9’ and ‘The StartUp Kit’
She has also been asked by various governments to work alongside them in several roles including the Small Business Representative for the Crown and leading the private sector campaign Start-up Britain, plus she was asked to co-chair the Small Business, Scale-up and Entrepreneurs Business Council.

She was Director at one of the largest independent public affairs companies, working with a number of hospitality, retail and leisure accounts before establishing her own strategic communications consultancy in 2000. In 2021 she was awarded an OBE for services to the hospitality industry, particularly during the Coronavirus pandemic.
