Pregnancy, birth and postpartum can be some of the most transformative and vulnerable seasons of a mother’s life. But no mother was ever meant to do it all alone.

In this episode of the Parenting Collective Podcast, host Donna Moala sits down with Deyana Salib, Midwife, Owner & Director of Pregnancy Practice Perth, for a heartfelt conversation about why mothers need a village before, during and after birth.

Deyana shares her journey as a midwife and the inspiration behind Pregnancy Practice Perth , a community-focused model designed to support women from early pregnancy through birth and into postpartum.

Together, Donna and Deyana talk about:
• Why pregnancy support needs to begin from the moment you find out you’re pregnant
• The importance of continuous midwife-led care throughout pregnancy and birth
• Why postpartum support is just as important as pregnancy and birth preparation
• The mental load, anxiety and loneliness many new mothers experience
• Why mothers need practical help, emotional support and sometimes simply someone to give them a hug
• The importance of building a genuine “village” around mothers
• Birth support, breastfeeding, newborn sleep and the professionals who can help
• Supporting mothers who have experienced miscarriage, infertility or difficult births
• The impact of isolation and the growing need for connection in modern motherhood
• Deyana’s charity I’m With You, supporting vulnerable pregnant and postpartum women
• The role of spirituality, faith, hope and surrendering fear during motherhood

One of the biggest messages from this conversation is simple: you are not failing, you are not meant to do this alone.

Whether you are pregnant, preparing for birth, navigating those early newborn weeks, or supporting a new mum in your life, this episode is a reminder that mothers deserve to be cared for too.

Why do so many children lose their authentic selves and what can parents do to protect them?

In this powerful episode of the Parenting Collective Podcast, Donna Moala sits down with Alexander Kopelman, social entrepreneur, advocate, whole-being coach, and author of For Real: Helping Children Remain Their Authentic Selves in a Limiting World, to explore how modern parenting can either nurture or unintentionally suppress a child's true identity.

As the founding President and CEO of the Children's Arts Guild, Alexander helped build a nonprofit dedicated to helping children discover, express, and develop their authentic selves through creativity, connection, and personal growth.

Together, Donna and Alexander unpack why children often disconnect from who they truly are, how shame and generational patterns quietly shape our parenting, and why raising emotionally secure children starts with our own self-awareness. They also discuss practical ways parents can respond instead of react, support children through difficult emotions, and create an environment where kids feel safe to be fully themselves.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Why children lose their authentic self

  • How generational patterns influence parenting

  • The hidden impact of shame on child development

  • Why your child's behaviour may be reflecting your own triggers

  • How to build emotional safety and stronger parent-child connection

  • Practical ways to raise confident, emotionally resilient children

Whether you're parenting a toddler, teenager, or somewhere in between, this conversation offers practical insights to help you foster connection, emotional wellbeing, and authenticity in your family.

What if raising emotionally resilient children begins with transforming ourselves first?

In this episode of Parenting Collective Podcast, Conscious Parenting Coach Donna Moala explores the power of mindfulness, emotional awareness, and conscious parenting with special guests Mayra Clay, author of The Boy and the Pink Light, and Marc Krusin.

Mayra and Marc are meditation teachers with The Bright Path Ishayas and independent publishers through BookPath, where they share books and tools designed to support emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, and conscious living.

Together, Donna, Mayra, and Marc discuss how conscious parenting can help parents:

✨ Understand their child’s emotions instead of simply reacting to behaviour

✨ Build stronger emotional connections with their children

✨ Regulate their own nervous system during challenging parenting moments

✨ Break generational patterns and create healthier family relationships

✨ Support children in developing mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional resilience

Parenting is not about being perfect. It’s about becoming more present, aware, and connected, learning how our own emotions, beliefs, and reactions influence the way we show up for our children.

Through meditation, mindfulness, and conscious awareness, parents can create a calmer home environment and help children feel safe, understood, and emotionally supported.

If you’re a parent wanting to raise confident, emotionally healthy children while growing alongside them, this conversation is for you.

✨ Why more families are becoming "accidental homeschoolers"

✨ Why social connection doesn't have to come only from school

If you are a parent navigating school struggles, anxiety, ADHD, autism, bullying, or homeschooling, I hope this episode reminds you that there are options and that you are not alone.

Content note:

This episode includes discussions around ADHD, anxiety, mental health, and emetophobia. Please listen with care.

This episode is deeply personal — and one of the most meaningful conversations I’ve ever recorded.

In Through My Eyes, Through Yours, I sit down with my daughter for an honest mother–daughter conversation about growing up with ADHD, anxiety, and feeling different in a world that doesn’t always understand neurodivergent kids.

We talk openly about the parts of childhood and adolescence that often go unseen:

  • Being labelled “the easy child” and the pressure that comes with it

  • Staying back in pre-primary and how that shaped confidence

  • Growing up neurodivergent and learning to mask to fit in

  • ADHD, anxiety, emetophobia, and mental health

  • High school, friendships, exclusion, and identity

  • Medication, self-advocacy, and removing shame

  • What helped, what hurt, and what we wish we’d known sooner

⏱️ Chapter Stamps

00:00 – Why this mother–daughter conversation matters

02:05 – Growing up “the easy child” and what went unseen

05:10 – Staying back in pre-primary and early feelings of being different

08:45 – When ADHD and anxiety started to show up

12:30 – Masking, fitting in, and learning how to cope

16:40 – School, friendships, and the pain of exclusion

21:15 – Emetophobia and anxiety explained

25:50 – Mental health, medication, and removing the shame

30:40 – What helped the most during the hardest years

35:20 – What we wish we had known sooner

39:10 – A message to parents in the thick of it

42:30 – A message to kids and teens who feel different

45:00 – Final reflections: love, resilience, and hope

This isn’t a conversation about perfect parenting.

It’s about listening, learning, repairing, and loving our kids exactly as they are.

If you’re parenting a child who feels different…

If you’re navigating ADHD or anxiety with your child or teen…

Or if you’re a young person who needs to know they’re not broken —

You are not alone. And neither is your child.

💛 There is another side — and this episode speaks to it honestly.

What if your child’s behaviour isn’t the real problem?

In this powerful conversation, Donna Moala is joined by Dr. Shefali (@doctorshefali), clinical psychologist, New York Times bestselling author, and founder of the Conscious Parenting movement, to explain why behaviour management alone doesn’t work, and what actually creates lasting change in families.

Together, they unpack:

What conscious parenting really means (and what it doesn’t)

Why behaviour is a signal, not the issue

How parents unknowingly project their own childhood wounds

Why connection, not control, builds resilient kids

How to become your child’s outer nervous system

Why it’s never too late to repair or strengthen your relationship with your child

📌 This episode is especially powerful for parents of strong-willed children, teens, and parents who feel like traditional parenting advice just isn’t working anymore.

Dr. Shefali also shares insights from her upcoming work on raising Gen Z and Gen Alpha children in a digitally overwhelmed world, and what parents need to do differently now.

On this week's episode, I wanted to dive into talking about toddlers.......

Picture this - It is bedtime in your house, and it feels like a full-blown circus. Does your toddler pull every trick in the book, from needing one more drink, to a last-minute wee, to suddenly discovering they are scared of the dark? Mumma, you are not alone.

In today’s episode, I am diving into why toddler sleep can feel so impossible, the top five challenges of raising toddlers, from tantrums to power struggles, picky eating, bedtime battles, and that never-ending parent guilt and shame and most importantly, how to bring more calm, connection, and rest back into your home.

If you are tired of the nightly meltdowns and ready for practical, loving strategies that actually work, this episode is for you.

We had some great conversations around what he is seeing in his clinic with our kiddos. The increase of children presenting with neurodiverse symptoms such as ADHD & Autism etc. And how challenging it is to be able to get the support our families need around their children's health.

The 'Garden' is a unique clinic that aims to revolutionise primary healthcare utilising new and innovative approaches for children and their parents. This focuses on using longer consultations. This has successfully been implemented as the pelvic pain clinic, which is one of 22 clinics around Australia selected by the federal government to increase accessibility for patients with chronic pelvic pain. This has been expanded to the extended care consultations for kids and teens which deals with complex paediatric presentations.

Andrew was awarded the RACGP WA GP of the year in 2023 on the back of significant advocacy work in child and adolescent mental health in WA through campaigning new models of care through media and the state health department. He has represented General Practice at state and federal government parliamentary enquiries to discuss the importance of improving access to mental health care for children and their families.

TRIGGER WARNING - TOPICS DISCUSSED IS MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE

On this weeks episode I am hounoured to have Lachlan O'Donoghue from @20_talk as my guest, Lachlan is the co-founder of a Perth mental health charity, @20_talk.

The charity was born in 2017 after his friendship group lost two close mates to suicice within 2 months. 20Talk aims to be a well-being platform for young adults to engage in mental health and wellbeing education in a way that makes sense to them. Lachlan manages the training arm of the charity.

This topic today is close to my heart through our own personal journey with our daughter, through her own mental health battle's during high school and at times being suicidal. We are wanting to share our story, so if someone who listen's may know, a sister, brother, cousin, friend or family member who is struggling, that you are not alone and there is so much support out there.

I wanted to share Lachlan to my listeners, as mental health and suicide is often always a difficult topic to discuss, but in this current day and age the suicide rate is increasing at a rapid rate, and to be able to create awareness around prevention and support rather than the devastation of a loss is incredibly important.

20_talk's purpose is to meet young people where they are at, offer an ear and where applicable challenge them to grow.

It doesn't have to be scary or negative, we don't even have to leave the room,  we can nurture and support our babies to sleep well.

On this weeks podcast I am super excited to have Nikolina from @heynikolinak ,she is a mum (AKA slave) to her 2 little boys both under 2, she is also a media whiz.
She is a writer and editor for 9Honey Parenting, as well as a spokesperson on Nine's Today Show and Today Extra.

Alongside that Nikolina also dabbles in Travel Writing, and is a guest presenter on Getaway. She spends the 10 minutes she gets to herself a day entertaining her thousands of followers online through her hilarious 'mum reels'. Oh and looking after her other little boy Leo... (second child things).

While trying her hardest to keep her career afloat during maternity leave, Nikolina came up with the idea of ‘My Mummy Loves Fudge’.

My Mummy Loves Fudge is a fun book for both mum and child to read. It reminds the child how much their mummy is there for them throughout the day and night, and it gives mum a chance to giggle while she reads along. Parents are sick of the same old stories about letters, numbers, love and cuddles. It’s time for something a little cheekier. We deserve it.

I am sooooo excited to share this episode with you all,  I have united with 2 other top sleep experts here in Australia, Steph Gouin from Sleep by Steph, and Maryanne Sayers from Baby Sleep Matters.
We are all very like minded women/mothers and sleep speciliasts and we are very passionate about trying to spread the truth and positivity around baby sleep.
There is just too much negative and false information being spread around via social media platforms and the internet, that we now are going to be so driven to have a voice for all those tired mumma’s out there that are exhausted and feel like they have no where to turn.
We all support our families one on one with full guidance,  you never have to leave your baby and you will always respond to their needs, and they can still learn the biological, miracle skill of sleep.

Hope you enjoy xoxo

Today I talk about all things regressions and the anxiety around parenting apps.

I commonly see posts & messages about certain Apps telling parents that in the future their baby is expected to experience regressions and challenging times.

I don't want mum's sitting around anxiously waiting for the next regression or tough time to hit, because you worry about it and it may not even come.

Let's embrace the NOW and enjoy the times when things are going well.

We don't actually know what is going to happen in the future and "worrying about it won't change a thing".
Every baby is so individual, lets all try to go with the flow xoxoxox
